ReviewThe movie not only feeds into the longstanding trope of mocking trans people for humour, but also reinforces discriminatory stereotypes by portraying them as laughing stock.Shivani KavaScreengrab_YouTubeIf over-the-top cringe movies are your speed, Vikipedia is just the movie for you. But if you are someone who looks for storyline and plot development in a film, let’s just give you a heads-up. The film depicts the life of Vikas, often known as Viki, played by Yashwanth. Viki is an arrogant, spoiled brat who is ignorant of world events, spends his day posting videos online and depends on his parents' income for sustenance — until one day, following a confrontation with his father, he decides to walk away. In the hopes that their son will improve, Viki's parents leave him home alone for a week; only to come back to six pairs of filthy underwear and a house that resembles a dumpster.

Aravind ShwethaFrom Romeo and Juliet to Preetham and Nandini (of Mungaru Male fame) we have seen millions of couple fall, rise and die in love. So, a love story in a movie is no surprise. But what makes a movie different and watchable is the emotional quotient and the connect it has with viewers. The movie takes off with a middle-aged Adi (Darling Krishna) driving to the coastal region and rescuing a woman on the way. She accompanies him through the journey where he opens up about his love, life and an array of emotions he has been through over the last few years. ReviewThe film is a treat for Mahesh Babu fans, blending action and comedy quite well.Krishna SripadaAn army major Ajay (Mahesh Babu) - you could guess that the hero introduction would be a mission where he downs a bunch of terrorists in Kashmir - is sent to Kurnool to convey the news of the martyrdom of one of the soldiers, also called Ajay, to his mother Bharathi (Vijayshanti). The local Mla (Prakash Raj performs well in a now routine for him avatar) has sent his henchmen to get rid of her and her daughters, after she files a case against him. Ajay gets down to the bottom of the scam, and as expected, rids Kurnool of their corrupt Mla and about 200 of his goons. While the plotline itself is wafer thin, the movie has three aspects going for it. Vijayshanti brings with her grace and elegance as a straight-as-an-arrow professor.

In October 2016, Al Jazeera did a stunning piece on the hottest new scene in Mumbai town: underground rap. It looked very closely at “Indianizing Hip-hop” specifically through the eyes of one rapper Navid Shaikh or Naezy. Only 2 years on and this same theme is now a major Bollywood film Gully Boy. Directed by Zoya Akhtar and led by Ranveer Singh, this story tells not only of Naezy’s rise to the heights of this young movement but also compatriot Divine in a musical album subtitled “Apna Time Aayega”. Its music would not be complete or correct without inputs from Divine and Naezy themselves but also from a multitude of the stars of this form with Spitfire, Rishi Rich and Dub Sharma just to name a few also getting in on the act. To round the album with the necessary non-rap songs Karsh Kale, Ankur Tewari and Jasleen Royal also make major contributions.

The #MeToo movement arrived late in India. But it is a juggernaut that is here to stay, and is having a measurable effect on production.
Aamir Khan Productions is to withdraw from a film where one of the filmmakers is accused of harassment in a 2014 case that is currently sub-judice. “This is an opportunity for the film industry to introspect and take concrete steps towards change,” actor/producer Aamir Khan and producer Kiran Rao tweeted in a joint statement. “For far too long women have borne the brunt of sexual exploitation. It has to stop.”
The movement kicked off with actress Tanushree Dutta accusing veteran actor Nana Patekar of harassment on the sets of “Horn ‘Ok’ Pleasss” in 2008, an allegation she made then and again last week. This was followed by harassment allegations against Phantom Films founding partner Vikas Bahl by an employee. That led to the dissolution of the company.

ReviewThis mystery thriller is a classic example of how, with a very low budget, minimal ‘acting’, and no stars, cinema that is insightful and meaningful can be made.Krishna SripadaScreenshot: YoutubeW/o Ram begins as an amateurish murder thriller – a helpless, hapless lady trying to get justice for her murdered husband. The usual police station scenes and apathy follow, almost satirical of all the years of cinema where the police station scene has been a trope. Losing her belief in the system (obviously!) she sets herself the task of going about the inquiry herself and starts unearthing one clue after the other – making the usual thriller-lovers yawn because these coincidences happen in bad thrillers dime a dozen. Somewhere in the middle of the movie, you realise Deeksha (Lakshmi Manchu) is not as naïve as she seems, and aided by an honest constable (Priyadarshan), makes it seems as if the movie...

MollywoodA day before the release, the director wrote a little note on her blog, about a regional film written by Sachin Kundalkar.Digital NativeA day before her movie was to release, director Anjali Menon revealed that Koode is an adaptation of a regional film. “I found myself re-imagining the story in a different way and when I discussed it with its makers they graciously offered the adaptation rights to me. But he had some advice – to keep one peculiar element under the wraps as they had done,” wrote Anjajli on her blog. She has been keeping the origin of the story under wraps until then but as is her usual practice, Anjali wrote a little note on the eve of her release. “Koode is an adaptation of the original story by Sachin Kundalkar. I am honoured that he trusted me with the story and it has been a rich learning experience for me. For those who have seen the original please be prepared to see a different interpretation. I humbly request our audience and media to not share that element in their reviews so that everyone may experience the movie first hand.” Anjali has carefully avoided naming the other film, for if one knew that one ‘peculiar element’ before watching it, half the fun would be lost. That element is a beautiful surprise that is revealed witin the first few minutes of the movie, but it’s well worth not knowing it before. Prithviraj and Nazriya play siblings in Koode. And Parvathy plays Prithvi’s love interest. The film also has Maala Parvathi, Ranjith, Roshan Mathew, Siddharth Menon, Nandhu Pothuval and Atul Kulkarni in the cast. Written and directed by Anjali Menon, Koode is bankrolled by Renjith under the banner Rejaputhra Visual Media and Anjali's Little Films India. MollywoodPrithviraj is perfect as Joshua, Nazriya remains energetic, Parvathy is charismatic in this beautiful portrayal of relationships.CrisThere were sporadic claps from the audience, for a name here and a name there in the title cards. It was the loudest when the director’s name came. Four years after Bangalore Days, people seem to have simply counted the days to Anjali Menon’s new one – Koode. The first few minutes appeared too serious for an Anjali movie, if you were looking for the fun you saw in Bangalore Days. So you notice the other things. The focus on the layers of raindrops that Littil Swayamp takes his camera through. The music that still doesn’t take away the melancholy on the screen. Raghu Dixit’s first in Malayalam is going to stand out. It is again through music that we know the mood is going to change. A string instrument casts magic here, and throughout the film. All the coldness in the house of a sad family begins to fade in a moment. Prithviraj’s nonchalance turns into surprise and slow joy. He as Joshua Thomas has not come home a happy man. His parents are seeing him after four years. Joshua is given his little sister’s room. The room introduces us to Jenny even before we see her. Paper butterflies hanging from the ceiling, pencil drawings of birds on the wardrobe, all of them saying “paranne” – meaning "I flew". Here is where Anjali moves away from the humans and takes the help of a dog and a van. The dog Brownie is just always there. Her movements mean something. The van is where a large chunk of the film is going to happen. Easily explaining that first poster that Koode came out with, three people on top of a van. Nazriya’s name should not have been dragged to the sixth paragraph of the review. While it's really good to see her back on the big screen as Jenny, the first many lines seem to go overboard. She is full of energy as she had been in the Om Shanthi Oshana days. But it is not easy to put it down as that’s how the character is – hyper. Because hyper should still feel real, not forced. It is not fair either to harp on it, for the actor, coming back after four years, does not let you down when she brings emotions to her face. When she throws her head on the big brother’s shoulder and when she plays with Brownie. Jenny transforms her brother. The lifeless Joshua that Prithvi plays really well gets a life. Joshua suits Prithvi perfectly. He is beautifully subtle. Parvathy too. That’s the third character on the van in the poster – Sofia. She switches charismatically from the emptiness of her miserable life to the slightly cheered up Sofia finding love. If you think about it, there is a lot of transforming lives in the movie. Anjali, without making it obvious, tells how years could change lives so much. Coach Ashraf played by Atul Kulkarni is one such. The lead characters, too. All the three child actors need special mention. Especially the casting of Subin as Prithvi's younger version. He even looks like a miniature Prithvi. Anjali continues to prove her brilliance when it comes to portraying relationships. Easily conveying emotions without a lot of polished words. Roshan Mathew in the little role that he plays as Krish does this when he tells Joshua about Jenny. Darshana, playing her friend, too does. Perhaps one of the best examples comes from director Ranjith, who plays Joshua’s and Jenny’s dad in the film. It’s not Ranjith’s famous booming voice that you remember from the film, it’s the dad’s simple and most natural affection. Maala Parvathy as the mom and Nilambur Aysha as the grandmom – Anjali has not forgotten to leave any of the talents unused. For her comedy doses, there’s the adorable Pauly Wilson and the lead characters, too, have their moments. You never feel the time passing till all 155 minutes are over and the end credits still keep you in your seats for the final song. You might lazily categorise it as a 'feel good' movie. But that would not be fair to Anjali or her crew. One can say that Koode - 'With You' - helps you find the meaning of the word, and all that it contains, in the most beautiful way. Disclaimer: This review was not paid for or commissioned by anyone associated with the film. Neither Tnm nor any of its reviewers have any sort of business relationship with the film's producers or any other members of its cast and crew.

MollywoodDirected by Anjali Menon, the film is said to revolve around siblings, played by Prithviraj and Nazriya.Digital NativeDigital NativeExpectations for Koode have been very high for various reasons but the most notable among them are that the film has Prithviraj playing the lead role and Nazriya Nazim staging a comeback after four years. Further, the fact that it is directed by Anjali Menon, whose last outing was the hit film Bangalore Days that had Nazriya as the woman lead, is another big reason to look forward to Koode. The film has gone through the censor certification process and has been certified with the clean U. With this done, Koode is now all set to hit the silver screens on July 14. The film revolves around siblings, played by Prithviraj and Nazriya. It also stars director Ranjith and Maala Parvathy in pivotal roles along with Parvathi, Roshan Mathew, Atul Kulkarni, Darshana Rajendran and Siddharth Menon. In an interview to the Hindu, Maala Parvathi explained why her character in the movie, Lily, is special for her. “A dream come true, that is what Lily is all about. I felt I was in wonderland and Anjali had encouraged me to go down the rabbit hole to explore a new universe. Now, I feel, I have arrived in tinsel town. Anjali’s validation of my act has given me the confidence that the silver screen is my space. It has got rid of my insecurities and lack of confidence in my acting skills,” she said. Written and directed by Anjali Menon, Koode is bankrolled by Renjith under the banner Rejaputhra Visual Media and Little Films India. On working in the film, Nazriya said in an interview to Scroll.in, “Koode is a family film about relationships, which is what Anjali does best. The film is about the good and the bad in families. I play Jenny, Prithviraj’s sister. I was a bit hesitant to work with him because I didn’t really know him off screen and in the film we’re meant to share this really close bond. I shared this concern with Anjali and she set up an iMessage group to help us all get to know each other. By the end, Prithviraj became like a brother in real life too.” Also read: After Prithviraj, Renji Panicker expresses regret for misogyny in his films (Content provided by Digital Native)...

MollywoodThe Anjali Menon film will release in July. Tnm StaffThose who have missed watching Nazriya on screen have reason to cheer. A song teaser from Anjali Menon's Koode, featuring the actor, was released on Wednesday. Showing Nazriya in a white top and pale green, patterned skirt, the song Aararo has the actor walking through the woods. She's then shown to be painting on the misty glass. Although we don't see her entirely, we're given close-up shots of parts of her face. The music by Raghu Dixit sounds pleasant and upbeat. We also catch a glimpse of a Labrador who walks next to Nazriya. Nazriya's last film was Anjali Menon's Bangalore Days. She soon married her co-star Fahadh Faasil and took a break from cinema. In a short span of time, she had become a popular star in Tamil and Malayalam cinema and was sorely missed by her fans. Koode also stars Prithviraj and Parvathy. Parvathy had also acted in Bangalore Days, which had an ensemble cast. The team has said that Koode is a "heartwarming tale of relationships". Fahadh Faasil had celebrated Nazriya's return to the big screen with a Facebook post in which the National Award winner said he had not had this kind of an excitement to share the first look poster of any film. He went on to say that his excitement was also "to see someone I love to watch on screen after four long years." He wished the cast all the very best. Anjali Menon's Bangalore Days was remade in Tamil but the latter version could not match up to the original, which was a blockbuster. The director has made a name for herself for strong scripts and execution. Koode will release in July. MollywoodThe film starring Nazriya Nazim, Prithviraj Sukumaran and Parvathy in the lead is described as a 'heartwarming tale of relationships'.Tnm StaffTwitterSmall tidbits about Anjali Menon’s new film have been coming out in the past many months, but the title was yet to be announced. And now we know. Koode, the film shall be called. And it shall release this July. The official page too has been launched on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. The film, like most Anjali Menon films, features multiple stars: Nazriya Nazim, Prithviraj Sukumaran and Parvathy in the lead. Here is a heartwarming tale that gently nudges your heart to beat better. A tale that ever so tenderly takes you by your hands and reminds you that love shall never leave you. Here is “Koode” for you ! @koodethemovie @AnjaliMenonFilm #KoodeTheMovie #Koode pic.twitter.com/wQy9VhPK28 — Parvathy T K (@parvatweets) June 11, 2018 It is a heartwarming tale of relationships set in the Nilgiris, says the Facebook page. “The story is about Joshua – (must be Prithvi) – who discovers the childhood landscapes, experiences and people he thought he had lost,” the description goes on. The biggest delight for fans came when the film announced the comeback of young actor Nazriya. She had famously disappeared from movies just as soon as soon as she appeared as a budding young heroine, fresh out of school. She had worked as a child actor before that, and as soon as she hit 17, turned a heroine, won a state award, and went off cinema with her marriage to Mollywood star Fahadh Faasil. Nazriya then decided to come back through Anjali Menon’s film. She and Parvathy had been part of Anjali’s last film, the ever popular Bangalore Days. Anjali who churns out movies only once every few years has worked previously with Prithviraj in her first feature film that won her many accolades – Manjadikkuru. There was an Ustad Hotel in between in which Anjali played the role of a silent scriptwriter. And another project with Pratap Pothen that didn’t take off after a few differences cropped up between them. So it’s then Koode for Anjali, who is also turning producer in association with M Renjith under the banner Rejaputhra Visual Media and Little Films India. The film surprised independent music lovers by roping in Raghu Dixit to compose music with M Jayachandran. Raghu said it is one of the best scripts he has seen. Cinematography is by Little Swayamp. And makeup is by Mitta Anthony. Fahadh Faasil wrote on Facebook: "Never before in my life I have had this kind of an excitement to share the first look poster of a movie. More than the great film it’s going to be and the great cast and technicians it has, my excitement is to see someone I love to watch on screen after four long years. She gave up this four golden years of her life to give me a home. I love you Nazriya with all i have and everything I am. All the best Anjali, Raju, Paru and My Own". Scotch Whisky brand Dewar’s have taken on an interesting music project. The company is planning to release an album titled The Dewarist Sessions, Part 1, an eclectic new album made of three indie bands (acclaimed Indian artist Raghu Dixit, Mercury Prize nominee King Creosote and folk duo Slow Club). The three bands gathered in the studio to record together during TEDGlobal 2012, where Dewar’s is a partner.
During the recording session, the Ted talks were streamed live into the studios from the conference center. Once the collaboration was complete, the three bands played an exclusive after party at The Caves.

New Delhi, June 20: Raghu Dixit, lead vocalist of popular band The Raghu Dixit Project, is delighted to see re-emergence of independent music.
"The Indian music scene has undergone a huge change. For the past many years, film music had taken over non-film music. When I came up with my first album, music channels had already stopped playing non-film music. We didn't have any channels which would play non-film music. It's great to see.
