John Carpenter, the writer/director behind classic comedy adventure "Big Trouble In Little China" (1986), starring Kurt Russell as 'Jack Burton', isn't too keen about the long-delayed sequel to his film, after being left out of the creative process. "They want a movie with Dwayne Johnson," said Carpenter. "that's what they want. So they just picked that title...":
"You can't remake a classic like that, so what we're planning to do is we're going to continue the story," said sequel producer Hiram Garcia.
"We're going to continue the universe of 'Big Trouble in Little China'.
"Everything that happened in the original exists and is standalone and I think there's only one person that could ever play Jack Burton...
"...so Dwayne would never try and play that character..."
Although he has been sidelined from the upcoming production, Carpenter continues to script new adventures of his "Big Trouble" creations.

It’s always nice when a small time villain like The Joker gets his own spotlight issue. Hidden away as he is by DC, it would be nice to see him get some exposure….said no one ever. Let’s be honest, especially at the moment, you just cannot escape The Joker. Be it in comics, or on screen, including The Joker movie, TV shows like Gotham, and animated movies like Killing Joke. He’s a one man industry. But why? Was is it about The Joker that taps into the human psyche and interests us so. Is it a repressed hatred of our fellow humans? A chance to stick it to the man? anarchic rebellion? Truth is, I think, all those things. The Joker is such a malleable character,...

John Carpenter is taking his Hollywood horror sensibilities to Gotham City, with DC Comics’ recent announcement that the director of The Thing, Halloween, and The Fog is co-writing a special 40-page Joker comic book.
Carpenter isn’t the only Hollywood notable dabbling in the comic book world — far from it, in fact, he’s actually part of a crush of celebrity tourists who are putting their names on comics. The allure for some is the IP creation opportunities, while others hope to tap into the evolving medium’s new indie-spirited cachet. For some it’s a purer pursuit, a low-cost way to produce a pet project or a nostalgic lark that reconnects them with comics traditions and characters they loved in their own youth.

If you’ve been keeping up with the DC Universe at large lately, then you’ve heard about “Year of the Villain.” Long story short, this crossover event of sorts spilling out of the pages of Justice League began in a one-shot in early May, and sees Lex Luthor rounding up those he sees fit for his next big play. This initiative kicked into high gear this month, with cardstock variants signifying which titles are participating.
So, even if crossovers aren’t your thing, then you still may want to pick up the book we’re here to discuss today. The reason I say that is because legendary filmmaker John Carpenter is set to re-team with writer Anthony Burch for their first DC project together, that being The Joker: The Year of the Villain. Previously, they’d penned Big Trouble in Little China: Old Man Jack for Boom! Studios.

Ching Dai, sick of relying on screw-ups like Lo Pan to do his bidding, has broken the barriers between Earth and the infinite hells, and declared himself ruler of all.Sixty-year-old Jack Burton is alone in a tiny corner of Florida with only his broken radio to talk to, until one day it manages to pick up a message. Forget old man Logan, old man Jack is about to make a very welcome appearance in a new comics series co-written by John Carpenter.

With every year, it seems less and less likely that John Carpenter will ever make another feature film. But at least he seems to be making the most out of his informal retirement by playing lots of video games, recording albums of sick music in the vein of his iconic film scores, raising money for indigenous rights, touring as a musician, and getting increasingly involved in comics. As ScreenRant reports, the director’s latest foray into sequential storytelling will be Big Trouble In Little China: Old Man Jack, a decades-later sequel to Big Trouble In Little China, his 1986 cult-classic homage to the genre cinema of Hong Kong, made about a decade before such things were considered cool.
Carpenter will be co-writing the new Boom! Studios series with Anthony Burch, the lead writer of Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel!, and before that, the co-creator of the web series Hey ...

More than 30 years later, John Carpenter is returning to Little China. The filmmaker and Anthony Burch are co-writing the new comic-book series “Big Trouble in Little China: Old Man Jack” alongside Anthony Burch, with Jorge Corona contributing art. Kurt Russell, Kim Cattrall and Dennis Dunn starred in the 1986 film, one of the “Halloween,” “Escape from New York” and “The Thing” director’s many cult classics.

Big Trouble in Little China filled my childhood with awesomeness. I freakin' loved that film and watched it countless times. Back in the day, there were ideas for a sequel but they never materialized. However, after all these years we are finally going to see Jack Burton return in a sequel in comic book form. The comic series is called Big Trouble In Little China: Old Man Jack and the best part is, it's being co-written by the director of the original film John Carpenter!
The news comes from Screen Rant, who revealed that the story will revolve around Jack Burton's "final ride in the Pork-Chop Express". Here's the plot synopsis:

Whelp I guess the Skag's outta tha bag. An early tweet from "Borderlands 2" lead writer, Anthony Burch, has forced Gearbox to prematurely debut the 4th Dlc for the boisterous loot 'n' shooter!
I've already seen (and played!) the expansion but unfortunately you'll have to wait a little longer for my full impressions. However, I can toss a few details your way:
The 4th Dlc is called 'Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep' and it revolves around a spoof of a certain popular tabletop RPG hosted by everyone's favorite explosive tween -- Tiny Tina! Releasing June 25th, it's included with the season pass; but if you've been more discretionary with your purchases, you can pick up for $9.99 or 800 Ms space bucks.

Mr. Torgue's Campaign of Carnage was outed weeks ago by leaked PlayStation 3 Trophy information, but his official Twitter account confirms that the new downloadable content is hitting Pandora next week.
Torgue is the CEO of the weapons manufacturer that bears his name, famous for its explosive rounds. He can be seen here throwing up the horns, but I'm guessing he simply blew his middle fingers off in the course of some debauched excess, if the trailer below is any indication of his demeanor.
The new campaign features new quests and weapons, and several Horde-like arena battles.
"The Campaign of Carnage takes that same style of Horde mode," Gearbox writer Anthony Burch told Eurogamer. "But that's only about 50 percent of the Dlc. The other 50 percent is the campaign."
Like Borderlands 2's first batch of Dlc, Captain Scarlett and her Pirate Booty, the Campaign of Carnage seems largely unrelated...

The original Borderlands was the cooperative multiplayer experience that Brink wanted to be. It gave gamers a massive number of rewards for slick gunplay. The gameplay captured the loneliness of The Walking Dead mixed in with the offbeat sarcasm of Mad Max. Experience and upgrades seemed limitless in this shooter game with an RPG loot system. If there was one problem, it existed in its limited sharing capabilities. What’s the good of having all the loot in the world if you can’t share it? Don’t answer that.
Sean Reardon, Gearbox Software’s Senior Producer, told us that the first Borderlands game was more of a work in progress. The visual style changed throughout the course of development so that the gameplay of the end product still had relics of its original visual design. While Borderlands 2 promises more of the same great post-apocalyptic, loot hording experience, Reardon said...

Gearbox provides details about its updated heavyweight class for the sequel to their hit RPG shooter.
From the sound of it, Gearbox isn't looking to reinvent the wheel with Borderlands 2. With its mix of Mmo-style loot collection and aggressive Dlc strategy, the first game did quite well for them back in 2009 as a kind of counter-Fallout (it came out nearly a year to the day after Bethesda's game). So what kind of changes does the developer have planned for the shooter/RPG hybrid in 2012?
In a feature over at IGN, lead writer Anthony Burch and lead designer Jon Hemingway detail some of the improvements and updates to one of the classes as well as how they will affect the story of the sequel. Given that each of the game's four classes can wield guns, they differentiate themselves by their specialized primary action skills—in Salvador the Gunzerker's case, it's his...
