Sony Pictures Television (Spt) is taking Japanese format 100 Choices to the London TV Screenings. Fany Studio’s show in which contestants are faced with one question but 100 possible answers first piloted in October 2023 before being picked up by Spt at the Asia TV Forum & Market. As well as distributing the format internationally, in countries where Spt has a non-fiction production company, the format will be repped by Stellify (UK), B17 Entertainment (U.S.), Curio (Australia), Teleset (Mexico) and Floresta (Brazil). In 100 Choices, contestants are faced with the 100 answers and if they can answer correctly, they win a large cash prize. Cam Sehpa, a Turkish remake of prizewinning Spanish horror film The Coffee Table, has wrapped principal photography in Turkey.

The remake is directed by Can Evrenol and produced by Bilal Kalyoncu of Akc Sinema in partnership with MorbidoGate, a strategic alliance between US-based global production consortium Globalgate Entertainment and Mexico’s Morbido Group. The project originated from a genre IP showcase hosted by MorbidoGate at last year’s Cannes film festival.

MorbidoGate, Globalgate and Akc areselling the film at this week’s EFM in Berlin and Cvg Mars will release theatrically in Turkey.

Caye Casas’s The Coffee Table delivered on of the darkest, pitch black horror comedies of the year that even shocked Stephen King. Casas revealed today that a Turkish remake of his macabre feature is now in production, with Baskin director Can Evrenol at the helm.

Casas broke the news on social media, revealing that the remake is currently titled Cam Sehpa.

The Coffee Table “follows Jesus and Maria, a couple going through a difficult time in their relationship. Nevertheless, they have just become parents. To shape their new life, they decide to buy a new coffee table. A decision that will change their existence.”

Fresh off this year’s The Coffee Table, one of the most downright shocking horror movies in years (and Stephen King agrees), director Caye Casas is now in development on a brand new movie. According to a report from Variety today, it’s titled El Show del Gran Luciferio.

The outlet notes that the upcoming genre film is “now in development and headed to the Sanfic Int’l Film Festival after being selected for this year’s Morbido Lab tutelage program.”

The website details, “The plot centers on the eccentric Luciferio, a game show host who pits contestants against each other in over-the-top trials to appease a rapt audience.

“As the show progresses, the games grow more barbaric as the adulation for the savage host drives increasing fury.”

Casas explains, “What are we capable of doing for money? We all have a price according to our personality, our circumstances and our ambitions.

There is no other horror film you’ll see this year as incessantly cruel and mean-spirited as The Coffee Table. This is both a compliment and a criticism, as, while the film is plenty committed to twisting the knife into its audience, it can also be rather repetitive before rushing to the finish. Now, he is really focusing on the dark part of dark comedy for his solo directorial debut in "The Coffee Table," a movie best watched as blind as humanly possible — if you even dare experience it. This is one of the bleakest, meanest, most unbearably cruel movies you could ever see, yet it is so uncomfortable and awkward you can't help but laugh in a maniacal way that might give you more than a few looks from those around you (if they're not laughing themselves). Cinephobia Releasing has put its cards on The Coffee Table, taking North American rights to Caye Casas’ Spanish-language black comedy horror from Paris-based seller MPM Premium.

A trend for horror anthologies is emerging from the competing titles in this year’s Sitges Pitchbox event, as organizers Filmmarket Hub and the Sitges Film Festival announce this year’s line up.

And, as the movie project showcase opens up its doors to series for the first time, it’s buzzy titles such as “R.I.P “ and “Mr Ray” which appear to be embracing the anthology format.

Developed during a 2019 Manhattan Institute Film Workshop “Mr Ray” is created by Antoine Bours – a series creator on Belgian-French scripted crime series “Ennemi Public” (“Public Enemy”).

Pitching itself as “Penny Dreadful” meets Tim Burton’s “Big Fish,” the series is described as “a love letter to the anthology series” and a tribute to one of its pioneers, the early twentieth century Belgian horror writer Jean Ray.

This year’s crop of Conecta Fiction short form series presentations offer up young, mostly female ensemble casts and a healthy dash of dark humor.

The five finalists – which include three Spanish entries, one Portuguese script and another from Argentina – will pitch their half-hour episode projects on site at Pamplona’s Baluarte Palace of Congress on Sept. 2 and Sept. 3.

Portuguese offering “#NoFilter” comes from Nuno Bernardo’s BeActive Entertainment production company, famed for its pioneering Ya multi-platform fiction (“Sofia’s Diary”). The comedy/mockumentary created and directed by Joana Alves, follows the lives of two female millennials with a tendency to view life through rose-tinted Instagram filters – until they move to Lisbon to pursue media careers and the realities of flat shares, self employment and internships bite. The series, which already comes with a pilot, is framed around a nightly podcast, with a real-life podcast planned to run with the series.

Argentinian director Nicolas Onetti (What the Waters Left Behind) has brought several directors together, for Asylum: Twisted Horror and Fantasy Tales. This is film anthology, consisting of several short films. Some of the filmmakers participating in the anthology include: Alejandro Damiani (Don´t Breathe), Damien LeVeck (The Cleansing Hour), Kheireddine El-Helou (Drudge), Mat Johns, Albert Pinto, Caye Casas and Andrew Desmond. Exclusive: Euro exhibition group Europa Cinemas, sales agent network Europa International and U.S. indie theater circuit Art House Convergence have set the films and speakers for the second Tales of Europe Exhibitor Exchange Program.

The program aims to strengthen the relationship between North American and European exhibitors and give European films without U.S. distribution a chance to shine.

The first seminar of this year’s event, the Audience Development & Innovation Lab at Cinetecca di Bologna, will take place during the Il Cinema Ritrovato Festival in Bologna, June 22-26, 2019. It’s the first time U.S. exhibitors will be in Europe as part of the program.

Attending U.S. exhibitors will be Dylan Skolnick, Lawren Desai, Landee Bryant, Rochelle Walters and Barak Epstein.

The program funds the trip as well as the travel and accommodation for U.S. exhibitors attending the bi-annual Network Conference, taking place in Lisbon, Portugal, November 21-24, 2019 and the Audience Development & Innovation Lab in Sofia, Bulgaria in March 2020.

The program selected 12 European films without U.S. distribution as part of this year’s showcase with many based on the themes of immigration and identity. The films debuted over the last year at international festivals including Berlin, Cannes, Sundance and Toronto.

Fantaspoa has been bringing the latest in genre cinema to South America with their film festivals and have just announced that they're expanding into distribution. The newly announced FantasFilms will bring around 20 feature films per year to Brazilian cinemas, including Dave Made a Maze, The Ranger, Mohawk, and more:

From the Press Release: Every May and June, the city of Porto Alegre in Brazil becomes an international hub where artists, filmmakers, actors, and cinephiles from across the globe gather for Fantaspoa: South America's largest festival of fantastic cinema and the sole member of the Méliès Federation on the continent.

This year, in addition to the festival itself, Fantaspoa has announced its own distribution arm: FantasFilms.

The newly-launched company will team up with Marcelo de Souza's Mares Filmes, with plans for distributing around 20 feature films per calendar year to Brazilian cinemas. All of the films selected will come exclusively from the festival lineup.

The biggest celebration of genre films in Latin America will kick off on May 17th with Brazil's 2018 Fantaspoa film festival, and following the reveal of the first wave of titles, the second wave of titles for the anticipated festival have now been unveiled, along with the announcement that filmmaker William Lustig will join Mick Garris in receiving a career achievement award:

Brazil’s Fantaspoa, the largest genre film festival in Latin America, have revealed the second wave of programming selected for their upcoming fourteenth edition, running from May 17th through June 3rd, 2018. The celebrated genre film fest, which takes place annually in the lakeside city of Porto Alegre will announce their full line-up, containing more than 100 films from around the world, on the second week of May.

Twenty new features are being announced today, in addition to the seventeen previously announced, which included Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich, Mohawk, The Ranger, Ederlezi Rising, and Les Garçons Sauvages.

Along with previously announced “Masters of Horror” creator Mick Garris, director William Lustig will also receive a career achievement award at the 2018 festival. Lustig, whose films include Maniac, Uncle Sam, and the Maniac Cop trilogy, is also the CEO of Blue Underground, an American entertainment company specializing in the distribution of obscure exploitation films.

Genre-loving audiences of Lima! Your horror and fantasy cravings will soon be fulfilled. Starting on February 14 and running a full five days, Insólito, Peru’s first and only festival entirely devoted to all things genre cinema, opens shop in the National Library (Mario Vargas Llosa Auditorium). The five-day event starts with a darkly comedic double bill that puts the focus on Caye Casas and Albert Pintó.
