Universal Pictures is going to play with the Ouija board once again. The studio has announced the release date for the sequel to the Olivia Cooke-starring horror film, Ouija, that came out last October. This time around, however, the studio is working from a screenplay scribed by the writing team behind Oculus.
Variety reveals that Ouija 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on October 21st, 2016. Nobody is signed on to direct at this point, but it's been revealed that Universal is working from a screenplay written by Mike Flanagan and Jeff Howard, who co-wrote the popular mirror-centric horror movie, Oculus, which Flanagan also directed.
As part of their first-look deal with Universal, Blumhouse Productions will back the sequel, with Jason Blum producing alongside Hasbro’s Brian Goldner and Stephen Davis and Platinum Dunes' Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form. It's also been announced that Ouija 2 will see worldwide distribution.

Despite largely negative reviews for last year’s Ouija, Universal is still pushing ahead with a sequel to the teen-targeted frightener, emboldened by the first film’s massive returns. Mike Flanagan and Jeff Howard, who penned the script for Flanagan’s 2013 horror hit Oculus, scribed the follow-up, which has been set for the Halloween-friendly release date of Oct. 21, 2016.
Ouija 2, as it’s tentatively titled, will likely see Olivia Cooke and Ana Coto return as sisters Laine and Sarah Morris, who encountered evil forces after attempting, along with friends, to use an ancient Ouija Board to contact a friend who took her own life after playing around with the same object. Alternatively, the sequel could follow a completely new group of ill-fated teenagers, but if Universal is looking to turn Ouija into a solid franchise, securing Cooke for multiple pictures makes a lot of sense.

Universal Pictures released their new horror/thriller flick, "Ouija" into theaters this weekend. I checked it out out, yesterday, and thought it was highly entertaining. I mean, it was way better than I thought it would be, especially with the way the plotline worked out. It delivered great suspense ,thrills, drama, and more. It stars: Olivia Cooke, Daren Kagasoff, Douglas Smith, Bianca Santos, and Ana Coto. In the new flick after character, Debbie Galardi (Shelley Hennig), mysteriously dies. It bothers her best friend, Laine Morris (Olivia Cooke) so much that she begins to research Supernatural means as way to get in touch with Debbie. And to make things even more interesting, she invites her friend along for the ride. They start messing around with a Ouija board, and get a response from a spiritual entity that they originally think is Debbie. However, when one of their friends, Isabelle, comes up dead a few days later,...

Chicago – Out of respect for the filmmakers and actors, I don’t walk out on films. I hold true to that even when I know in the first 10 minutes the film’s not for me. Perhaps the second act could surprise me. Maybe the whole film is a flop but it redeems itself with shock and awe in the last 5 minutes.
Rating: 1.0/5.0
But let’s be honest: As much as you can tell yourself you’ll walk into “Ouija” with an open mind, it’s impossible to have high hopes about this latest “horror” film in a tiresome string of formulaic attempts. You’re not expecting Oscar-caliber performances and that’s why these kinds of films can get away with casting no one you’ve ever heard of.
This time, Olivia Cooke takes center stage. You might remember her if you saw this year’s sci-fi flop “The Signal” with Laurence Fishburne.

While there are an unlimited number of brilliantly eloquent metaphors a film critic can use to describe what an utter travesty Ouija is, no words need to be uttered beyond “Ouija is bad.” I could end my review right there and you’d all be wiser knowing that simple descriptor, plus I wouldn’t have to waste another 600 or so words explaining why Ouija embodies everything wrong with today’s mainstream horror scene. Writer/Director Stiles White and co-writer Juliet Snowden take a steaming, repugnant turd directly onto the horror genre’s chest and don’t even say thank you, laughing their way into theaters nationwide.
But who am I kidding? Ouija is going to walk away a box office champion when the weekend numbers are tallied, so my disapproval really won’t mean a lick in the grand scheme of things. Movies of this quality level will still cheaply...

You know there’s something wrong right off the bat when a movie is based on a board game. It’s just another pitiful extension of Hollywood’s obsession with making movies out of recognizable brands or toys or theme park rides. Sometimes those initially terrible ideas work out (Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl), and most of the time they don’t (Battleship, almost all of the Transformers movies). Inevitably what happens when they do work out is that they’re immediately put onto a franchise pedestal and the subsequent installments never reach the already low pinnacles of the original. Theorize all you want about the dollars-and-cents potential of franchises based on recognizable properties, but perhaps the best thing about the new horror movie Ouija is that it is so bad that it will thankfully—and hopefully—never turn into a multi-movie franchise.

Although Summer has long passed, it’s not too late for another youth-oriented movie adaptation. So, what is it, another flick based on a popular series of “young adult” novels, or perhaps a “tear-jerker” like The Fault In Our Stars or If I Stay? Is it another comic book or classic TV show getting the big screen treatment? Nope, this is based on a game. But not a video or computer game like the Lara Croft franchise or the recent Need For Speed. It’s an “old school” board game, one that’s been around for ages. The box office sinking of Battleship has not deterred the folks at Hasbro Films (an off-shoot of the toy empire). After all, GI Joe and those Transformers are still raking in the bucks. Plus The Lego Movie’s success will spawn a trio of spin-offs. Oh, and there’s a chance of cross-over...

(Cbr) Cynical people tend to say films based on toys and games are just there to sell more products. We’re not quite sure that’s the case with Hasbro’s "Ouija," as it revolves around a group of kids bringing something evil over from the other side while using the spirit board to try to contact a dead friend. That’s some pretty twisted advertising! Speaking of which, a U.K. version of the first trailer just hit, featuring a lot of previously seen footage. The film stars "Bates Motel" actress Olivia Cooke as well as fellow up-and-comers Ana Coto, Bianca A. Santos, Douglas Smith and Daren Kagasoff. We’re still very much in the midst of August, but Universal is already taking steps to ensure that Ouija will be a familiar name by the time October rolls around. A new TV spot for the upcoming horror title has landed online, tightening footage we already saw in the first theatrical preview into a concise, if less scary teaser.
Ouija is one of a few horror pics that will be competing for your screams (and hard-earned cash) come Halloween – earlier in the month, we’ll be getting The Conjuring spinoff Annabelle, anthology ABCs of Death 2, horror-tinged battle epic Dracula Untold and freaky threequel V/H/S Viral. So what sets this one apart? Its young, photogenic cast (which includes a wealth of supporting players from teen-targeted TV) might be enough.

Universal Pictures has released an extended TV spot for their horror film Ouija, which follows a group of friends who must confront their most terrifying fears when they awaken the dark powers of an ancient spirit board. I guess this is the kind of stuff that happens when you mess with the devil and his minions.
I always thought that a movie centered around a Ouija board could make for a really cool horror movie. I have yet to see a good one, though, and this Michael Bay-produced film doesn't look like it's going to be very good either. It's just another wasted opportunity to make a terrifying Ouija board movie.
The film was directed by Stiles White, and it stars Olivia Cooke, Douglas Smith, Bianca Santos, Daren Kagasoff, Vivis Colombetti, Ana Coto, and Erin Moriarty. The movie is set to be released on October 24th.

The first trailer for the teen horror movie Ouija has arrived online, and you can watch it below. It's kind of surprising that there hasn't been a Ouija board-centric horror movie since 1986's Witchboard, starring Whitesnake music-video model Tawny Kitaen. Sure, the paranormal communication device has popped up in movies since then - its most notable recent appearance in Paranormal Activity - but people have stayed away from it as the crux of a horror movie. Leave it to producers Michael Bay and Jason Blum to change that. Ouija stars Olivia Cooke, Ana Coto, Daren Kagasoff, Bianca A. Santos and a handful of other young, fresh faces as a group of teens who use the titular spirit board to figure out what, or who, killed their friend. We're guessing they...

Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for their upcoming horror thriller Ouija. The story centers on a group of friends who start screwing around with a Ouija board, and as you'll see in the trailer, very bad things start to happen. I guess that's what you get when you mess with evil. Now, I love horror movies, but this doesn't really look like it's going to be very good. The official description simply says:

The first trailer for the upcoming horror movie inspired by a Ouija Board has finally been released, but it’s hard to say whether or not it was worth the wait! It marks the directorial debut of Stiles White, and the cast is made up of the usual sort of good looking unknowns who will likely be dispatched one after the other.
Anyone who has ever played around with a Ouija Board know there’s no real reason to be afraid of them, but this group of friends – who are trying to contact their recently deceased friend – soon find out that her death was no accident and that there may in fact be something far more sinister about this particular board game.
In the trailer, we get to see some of the nasty things that some of the friends go through, and the movie could find some success thanks to...

Following “The Signal” and “The Quiet Ones”, British up and comer Olivia Cooke rounds out her big screen efforts this year with Stiles White‘s horror film “Ouija.” The Blumhouse film’s trailer debuted today, and it’s yet another reminder of why nobody should be touching a Ouija board game nor trying to contact the dead in the first place. Cooke stars as Elaine Morris, a teenager who leads a group — played by Douglas Smith, Ana Coto, Bianca A. Santos, and Daren Kagasoff — in a Ouija game as an attempt to discover who killed their friend, Debbie (Shelley Hennig). But, [...]

A board game hasn't caused this much trouble since “Jumanji.” A group of teenagers play a game of “Ouija” in the first trailer for the horror flick of the same name, and almost immediately regret it. Douglas Smith, Olivia Cooke, Ana Coto, Bianca A. Santos, Erin Moriarty and Daren Kagasoff play the unfortunate teenagers who decide to try to contact their recently deceased friend (Shelley Hennig), an earlier victim of the Ouija board herself. Horror fans of all ilks can safely look forward to October, when Hollywood does its damnedest to scare the crap out of everyone with a variety of frightful offerings.
