It’s been well over two years since season 2 dropped in the UK and the U.S., and since season 3 of the hit series was renewed. After revitalising action cinema with the two astonishing martial arts films in The Raid franchise – his directorial debut, Merantau, is well worth tracking down too – Gareth Evans turned to television, co-creating Gangs of London with Matt Flannery in 2019.

A sprawling crime saga, the show follows the Wallace family as they grapple to keep control of their criminal empire. And we’ve had two series of it so far, with plenty of memorable moments to talk about.

Kaleidoscope Film Distribution have snapped up Scottish thriller “Kill” for the U.K. market and are set to launch international sales at AFM.

The debut feature from creator, director and co-writer Rodger Griffiths, “Kill” is a story of violence, family and revenge. It follows three desperate brothers who “return to the woods where they shot and buried their abusive father, only to find his shallow grave empty,” reads the logline. “Now, someone is hunting them.” Rob Drummond co-wrote the film, which premiered at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in August.

The first season on Gangs of London hit in 2020 right at the start of lockdown, it came out of nowhere and blew viewers’ minds. Created by Gareth Evans and Matt Flannery this was a slick study of ultra violence set in the capital city, which explored the game play between international gangs vying to control different parts of the criminal underworld. Events of season one are kicked off when gangland boss and patriarch Finn Wallace (Colm Meaney) is assassinated and his headstrong son Sean (Joe Cole) takes over, hell bent on revenge. Exclusive: Erik Barmack’s Wild Sheep Content has boarded Synchronicity Films and Mr. B Films’ feature Kill, which has entered principal photography.

Former Netflix International senior exec Barmack, who launched Wild Sheep two years ago, described Kill as “uniquely international, genre, and big in scope,” stating it will “deliver for all partners.” The feature, the debut film from director Rodger Griffiths, is the second Synchronicity project that Wild Sheep has partnered on, following YA TV series One More Kill from Sugar Rush’s Holly Phillips.

As anyone who’s even fleetingly dipped into the vast, storied genre of the British spy thriller can attest, there are a few different games afoot in “Slow Horses.” What looks at first like a story of restless, demoted spies finding their purpose gets quickly twisted up in MI5 politics. Then, a couple of hours into the six-episode season, the show tries to turn everything we thought we knew inside out. With its starry cast, handsome budget, and slick cinematography, the new Apple TV Plus drama (based on a Mick Herron novel and executive produced by Graham Yost) works hard to differentiate itself from every other MI5 narrative we’ve seen before. By season’s end, “Slow Horses” feels more familiar than truly innovative, albeit with some sharper acting and jokes than most others it’s following.

Gangs Of London has become the latest major UK production to fall victim to a third wave of coronavirus.

Filming on Season 2 of Sky and AMC’s gangland drama has been halted for 10 days after a crew member tested positive for Covid on Thursday. Deadline previously revealed that Bridgerton and The House Of The Dragon have also had to shutter British shoots in recent days.

A Sky spokeswoman said: “Throughout this time, the safety of our colleagues and customers remains our number one priority. Gangs of London S2 production has temporarily been suspended with cast and crew now self-isolating. We will return to production as soon as it is safe to do so.”

“As a coalition of creators and performers we support the Smart Fund, a new scheme that could help to bring cultural and economic renewal to the whole of the U.K. The fund could generate £250-£300 [$346-415] million a year for the creative sector, and boost a wider U.K. economic recovery, by placing a small levy on the sale of devices that enable people to store and download creative content, such as mobile phones, laptops and personal computers. Ralph Ineson, Brian Vernel and Lorn Macdonald have joined dark family thriller Kill from UK production company Synchronicity Films.

It marks the debut directorial feature of Rodger Griffiths and will be co-produced by Mr B Films. Glasgow-based Synchronicity said it would be its first project to go into production once Covid-19 lockdown measures are lifted.

The story centres on three brothers and their violent father (Ineson), who live in a remote forest. The brothers attempt to kill their father while on a hunting expedition but this begins a deadly game of cat-and-mouse.

Explosive thriller Gangs of London landed on Sky and Cinemax in one intense nine episode package this April. It boasts a large international ensemble cast to match its sprawling narrative style. The cast is a mix of well known faces and relative newcomers all mixed up in the fray.

Finn Wallace is the patriarch of the family and the head of a massive crime syndicate who is assassinated in episode one of Gangs of London but appears in flashback throughout the series. Irish actor Colm Meaney might be best recognised by some for his recurring role in Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine as Chief Miles O’Brien.

If you’re not a massive fan of Guy Ritchie or Vinnie Jones a new show called Gangs Of London might sound a bit off putting. Do yourself a favor and ignore those instincts. This is comfortably one of the very best shows Sky, or indeed anyone, has released in some time. A massive, cinematic epic, this show is likely to be talked about in the same breath as Game Of Thrones for it’s incredible scale, complex politics and its sense that any character could be killed at any moment.

Gangs Of London is about organised crime in the capital, for sure, but it’s a million miles from your average geezer-pleaser. You don’t have to have any interest whatsoever in gangsters to get hooked on Gangs Of London. But you do have to have a strong stomach for violence.
