Crewmembers on the Food Network’s Worst Cooks in America have gone on strike, seeking a union contract and representation by the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees. The cooking competition show, which stars Anne Burrell and Jeff Mauro, debuted in 2010 and is in its 26th cycle.
“The crew is striking for recognition of their union, and in turn their goal is a union contract,” IATSE spokesman Jonas Loeb said. “The crew has been out and ready to negotiate since Wednesday.”
In a strike alert posted on social media, IATSE said that “The crew of Worst Cooks in America are on strike in Long Island City as Bright Road Productions refuses to serve up fair wages and benefits. Worst Cooks serves up subpar wages; benefits not on the menu.”

Chefs Anne Burrell and Jeff Mauro are teaming up once again for “Worst Cooks in America: Love at First Bite.” The romantically themed Food Network will spotlight eligible singles specializing in the tastes of love and is set to premiere Aug. 6.
The eight-episode season will follow Burrell and Mauro as they lead their own team of chefs through a culinary bootcamp. But this time around, most of the challenges have to do with romance. Think French pastries, perfect date night cuisine and a series of dating-inspired challenges such as the Cupid Games, the Bagel-orette and the Inferno Zone. By the series’ end, the most improved chef will be awarded a $25,000 grand prize as well as bragging rights for their mentor.

A group of producers at Bstv Entertainment, the shingle behind Food Network projects like The Kitchen and Trisha’s Southern Kitchen, is attempting to unionize.
A majority of the collection of 19 workers (whom the guild is calling writer-producers) at the Montclair, New Jersey-based development and production company have signed union cards in an attempt to join the Writers Guild of America East, the union announced Monday. The WGA East is calling on management at the company to voluntarily recognize the group, a means of unionizing that avoids a formal National Labor Relations Board election. Eater was the first to report the news.
The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to Bstv Entertainment for comment.
In a request for voluntary recognition sent to management on Monday, workers cited the success of Food Network’s The Kitchen, as well as alleged labor issues that have emerged on the show, as a motivator to unionize.

The Jeff Mauro-hosted Food Network cooking competition series “Kitchen Crash” will be back with a second season, comprising four episodes, beginning July 12 at 10 p.m. Et/Pt.
“Kitchen Crash” will see the former “Sandwich King” host return to “crash” a local neighborhood block party in a chosen suburb, with three professional chefs in tow surprising attendees with an outdoor cookoff. In each hour-long episode, the culinary experts have only 10 minutes to convince residents to hand over food from their fridge and pantry — enough to fill one bin — as ingredients to use in the competition. The chef who prevails will earn a cash prize of 10,000 to split with the family who provided the ingredients.
“No two pantries or fridges in America are alike, making the ingredients in the bins as varied as they can possibly be,” Mauro said in a statement. “The chefs must be able to communicate effectively with...
