Dirty Projectors have announced their new album, Song of the Earth, out April 4th via Nonesuch/New Amsterdam in the US and Transgressive in the UK.
Song of the Earth started as “a song cycle” that frontman David Longstreth composed for the Berlin-based chamber orchestra s t a r g a z e. Following its 2021 premiere at Hamburg, Germany’s Elbphilharmonie, Longstreth staged performances of the work-in-progress in Amsterdam, London, and Los Angeles.
The full project was recorded with s t a r g a z e in those same cities, featuring contributions from Mount Eerie, Steve Lacy, Patrick Shiroishi, Anastasia Coope, Tim Bernardes, Ayoni, Portraits of Tracy, and the author David Wallace-Wells. Pre-orders are ongoing.
“The need for this music arose in a few days in Fall of 2020, when T was pregnant with our daughter. The fires in California were insane, as they are right now,” Longstreth said in a statement.

In October of 2021, Amazon Studios announced it was acquiring Trevor Beck Frost and Melissa Lesh’s “Wildcat” for a price nearing 20 million, a staggering sum for a doc of its kind. Produced by 30West, the film tells the story of former British soldier Harry Turner and conservationist Samantha Wicker, who help heal each other while caring for a small ocelot wildcat in the deep Peruvian rainforest.
This is Frost and Lesh’s first feature film. Frost comes from a still photography background, with work published in National Geographic and the New York Times, while Lesh has previously worked with short films. The documentary has picked up considerable steam on the brink of awards season, having recently been nominated for two IDA Documentary Awards for editing and score (Patrick Jonsson).

Robin Pecknold is best known for being the front man of indie folk band Fleet Foxes, but he’s also dabbled in scoring music for the stage and big screen. His sounds will next be heard in Wildcat, an upcoming Amazon Studios documentary following a young veteran on his journey into the Amazon.
Pecknold appeared on a panel at Deadline’s Sound & Screen event following his performance alongside a 60-piece orchestra to discuss his process creating music for the December 30 release.

“In my songwriting process, I usually start with melody,” he said. “Then I write a bunch of small little things and don’t really think about how to put them together until later when I end up with like a chorus that started as a bridge for something else. Or with things that take surprising directions in different combinations, that’s usually how it goes.

"I'm worried that he can't live by himself." Amazon has revealed the official trailer for a documentary film titled Wildcat, a wonderful film about animal rescue in the Amazon and how a person's life is rescued, too. This initially premiered at the 2022 Telluride Film Festival, and it has also played at the Heartland, Santa Fe, Montclair, and St. Louis Film Festivals. Wildcat follows the inspiring story of a young Ptsd-diagnosed veteran on his journey into the Amazon. Once there, he meets a young woman running a wildlife rescue and rehabilitation center, and his life finds new meaning as he is entrusted with the life of an orphaned baby ocelot. What was meant to be an attempt to escape from life, turns out to be an unexpected journey of love, discovery, and healing. The film also features an original song by Fleet Foxes feat. Tim Bernardes, which will debut later in November.
