Stephen King’s been known to write a doorstop or two, but within the prolific author’s oeuvre are tales that amount to a fraction of “It.” What these novellas lack in page-count, though, they make up for in thrills. Some of the most successful cinematic translations of his work come from this short-fiction subset.
“The Shawshank Redemption”—a two-and-a-half-hour prison drama adapted from the 181-page novella, “Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption”—is widely considered one of the greatest movies ever made. Released by Netflix earlier this month and just in time for Halloween, “Mr. Harrigan’s Phone” is the newest product of King’s fruitful relationship with the film industry.

2017 was home to four Stephen King adaptations: "It," "Gerald's Game," "The Dark Tower," (I didn't say they were all good adaptations), and the most slept on, "1922." Released without much advance publicity on Netflix ahead of Halloween, the movie had the least source material to draw from. Instead of a tome like "It" or an eight-book series like "The Dark Tower," "1922" was based on a novella from King's collection "Full Dark, No Stars."
Set in, you guessed it, 1922, the film and book star Wilfred James (Thomas Jane in the film), a Nebraskan farmer who murders his wife Arlette (Molly Parker) with the help of their teenage son Hank (Dylan Schmid). Wilfred is haunted by the deed and his guilt is embodied by a ghost of Arlette and a swarm of rats, both of which may or may not be a hallucination.

A Teacher started an inappropriate student-teacher relationship with Tuesday’s debut of the FX on Hulu drama — but did the series pass or fail with you?
Before you chime in with your thoughts, a brief recap of the first episode: Kate Mara (House of Cards) stars as Claire Wilson, an AP English teacher on her first day at a new school in 2013. It’s made very clear that Claire is the “hot” teacher and different than the stereotypical idea what of an instructor should be. For starters, she shoplifts a lipstick from the store. When her husband Matt (Succession‘s...

The 10-episode limited series “A Teacher” will premiere this November on FX on Hulu and beginning with its first episode, the show centered on a student-teacher affair will air a content warning about grooming, due to the nature of the subject matter.
“Because the show is about consent and abuse and victimhood and manipulation, it was really important for me that we partner with Rainn, which is the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network,” series creator Hannah Fidell told reporters Wednesday during a virtual panel promoting the Kate Mara and Nick Robinson-led show.
“We’re going to be adding cards to each episode before they air, which will include a viewer discretion warning about grooming,” she added. “And also at the end, point viewers toward resources available to them, with the partnership that we’ve created with Rainn. Halloween always provides a good excuse to celebrate scary movies, but as anyone keen on the genre knows, it’s never really a bad time to do that. That’s especially been true this year, long before “It” broke box office records. Just a few months into 2017 and it was already a banner year for genre films, with “Get Out” becoming a cultural phenomenon, new horror festivals generating headlines, and other promising developments that send a positive message to genre fans. While the industry worries about the future of moviegoing and the quality of the art form in a blockbuster-dominated era, horror fans have nothing to worry about — the genre is secure, but only if you know where to look.

It’s been a very strong year for Stephen King adaptations (well, adaptations not named The Dark Tower), with the release of Andy Muschietti’s It and several new TV series, too. Now we’ve got two other stellar projects making their way to Netflix, Gerald’s Game from Mike Flanagan (Ouija: Origin of Evil, Oculus, Hush) and 1922 from genre newcomer Zak Hilditch. This dynamic duo of Netflix films recently screened at the 2017 Fantastic Fest in Austin, and I'd like to share my thoughts on these two wildly different films that were both equally compelling and entertaining viewing experiences all the same.
Gerald's Game: With Gerald’s Game, Flanagan has nearly done the unimaginable by somehow finding a way to translate a story that is mostly internally driven by its protagonist, and bring it to life visually in a way that’s still in line with King’s material,...

The Netflix-produced “1922” has jolts of violence and sweeping period details, but in a year overrun with Stephen King adaptations, it’s also the simplest of them: “It” features a ludicrous shapeshifting clown, “The Dark Tower” is an inter-dimensional sci-fi western fantasy, and “Gerald’s Game” has kinky sex gone wrong and a giant goal. In “1922,” a guy kills his wife and feels guilty about it. That’s the gist of its premise, and while nothing groundbreaking, the story mines a degree of profundity out of the traditional supernatural thriller tropes at its core.

"A woman have to be crazy to leave a nice house like this one." Netflix has debuted an official trailer for yet another Stephen King adaptation this year, this one titled 1922 based on one of his short stories. From director Zak Hilditch, 1922 is about a rancher who wants to kill his wife to make money, and attempts to convince his teenage son to participate. Thomas Jane stars, and the cast includes Molly Parker, Neal McDonough, Brian d'Arcy James, Dylan Schmid, and Kaitlyn Bernard. This joins the growing list of Stephen King adaptations in 2017, including The Dark Tower, It, Netflix's Gerald's Game, and "The Mist" TV series. This film looks like it has some style, and is as dark and twisted as everything from King's mind. Thomas Jane and Molly Parker are set to star in Netflix’s film adaptation of Stephen King’s novella 1922. This will be the third Stephen King film that Jane has starred in. He previously starred in 2003’s Dreamcatcher and 2007’s The Mist. I’m a big fan of the actor, who I think is underrated. It’s great to see him attached to star in another King project.

Thomas Jane has already starred in two Stephen King adaptations (one good, one less good), but now he’s adding another notch to his Stephen King belt with a movie version of the novella 1922. That comes from The Hollywood Reporter, which says relative newcomer Zak Hilditch will direct from a screenplay he also wrote, with Netflix producing the adaptation. The original story is about a man who gradually becomes more and more unhinged after killing his wife, forcing his son—who was complicit in the murder—to help weave intricate lies about her disappearance. Eventually, he begins to believe that killer rats and the ghost of his wife are stalking him, which just makes things worse.

We're mere days away from the climactic Season 2 finale of "Once Upon a Time," which sees Storybrooke and all its inhabitants teetering on the brink of total destruction thanks to Tamara (Sonequa Martin-Green) and Greg (Ethan Embry) and their hatred of magic. Meanwhile, in flashbacks, we'll learn exactly how Hook (Colin O'Donoghue) and Bae (Dylan Schmid) first got to know each other in Neverland.
To preview the "Once Upon a Time" finale, The Huffington Post spoke to O'Donoghue about exploring a "deeper layer" of Hook, his dynamic with Bae and whether he thinks the pirate can ever move past his hatred of Rumplestiltskin (Robert Carlyle) and call a truce.
Co-creators Adam Horowitz and Eddy Kitsis promised that the finale would be very Hook-centric in terms of the flashbacks, so what can you reveal about "And Straight On 'Til Morning"?

Baelfire took a turn at the "Second Star to the Right" this week, Once Upon a Time took another favorite fairy tale in a bit of a dark direction.
Below, our Once Upon a Time Round Table team of Nick McHatton, Christine Orlando and Gareth from Once Upon a Fan ponder Neal's fate and whether or not Storybrooke is about to get blown off the map. Gather around now, Fanatics!
-------------------------------------------
What was your favorite scene from the episode?
Gareth: I loved all the flashback scenes. A lot of the puzzle pieces are starting to fit into place. It was also great to see Dylan Schmid back as Baelfire and I am looking forward to seeing how the storyline plays out between him and Hook. The Shadow/Peter Pan creature was very creepy as well.

Once Upon A Time, Season 2, Episode 21: “Second Star to the Right”
Written by Andrew Chambliss & Ian Goldberg
Directed by Ralph Hemecker
Airs Sundays at 8pm (Et) on ABC
Action? Check. Nail-biting suspense? Check. Cringe worthy moments? Check. Heart filled scenes? Check. The next to last episode in the second season of Once Upon a Time didn’t leave any unsatisfactory moments. The episode is hands down one of the best we’ve seen of the season, especially with the filler episodes that we have had of late.
The episode starts out with a kick back to a scene from the first season. It is the part where Bae falls into the time portal. This time, however, we are graced with seeing what actually happened to Bae. He just happens to fall into London, England at the same time that Wendy Darling and her family is living there. Kudos need...
