YouTube has canceled “Escape the Night” after four seasons, ending its longest-running original series, Variety has confirmed. The semi-scripted murder-mystery series was hosted by Joey Graceffa, who presided over the retro mega-collab in which a famous YouTuber got killed off in each episode.
But Graceffa isn’t letting “Escape the Night” fade to black.
In a video posted Tuesday, he said Season 5 of the show was not happening “this year” but he left the door open for the series to return (which would be under different auspices now that YouTube has dropped it). “I don’t know when there will be a Season 5,” Graceffa said, saying it was unable to go forward because Covid-19 production shutdowns.
Graceffa didn’t say that “Escape the Night” was canceled. However, a source tells Variety that YouTube declined to pick up “Etn” Season 5.

Shane Dawson has had a massive year on YouTube with the launch of several multi-part docuseries -- and those ventures did not go unnoticed at the eighth annual Streamy Awards, where Dawson won in the ‘Documentary’ category for The Truth About TanaCon as well as the audience-voted ‘Creator Of The Year’ award. (Dawson's TanaCon series also took home an award for ‘Editing’ that was not presented during last night’s live YouTube broadcast).
This year's Streamys, hosted by The Try Guys -- with group member Eugene Yee Lang decked out in full drag -- also featured trophy presenter Charo changing into multiple showstopping outfits throughout the evening. And with the midterm elections just around the corner, several onstage presenters -- including Mamrie Hart, Grace Helbig, Liza Koshy, and DeStorm Power -- urged Streamys viewers to get out and vote.

“Buffy the Vampire Slayer” was a cultural phenomenon with a lasting impact that few TV series achieve. It launched several acting careers, the spin-off series “Angel,” and it cemented creator Joss Whedon as king of all geek-dom, which eventually led to his big-screen success as the director of “The Avengers” (2012) and “Avengers: Age of Ultron” (2015). Despite its success and acclaim, however, the series was never an Emmy darling. And the curse has continued to follow the “Buffy”-verse actors as no “Buffy” or “Angel” performer has ever earned a Primetime Emmy for acting in their careers. That could all change this year thanks to Alexis Denisof.
Denisof portrayed Wesley Wyndam-Pryce, an uptight Watcher introduced in Season 3 of “Buffy.” He later reprised the character as a member of the main cast of “Angel.” He was never nominated for that role, but this year Denisof is finally up for an acting Emmy,...

Collab is giving its partners a new way to protect their content from unlicensed reuse. The network, whose partners include Destorm Power (pictured above), David Dobrik, and Baby Ariel, has launched a tool called CollabDRM, which lets its users set up customized digital rights management policies.
CollabDRM, like YouTube's Content ID service, is able to track down unlicensed use of its clients' videos. Once identified, the infringing content can be monetized, thus generating more revenue for rights holders across the web. Where Collab believes it has improved on Content ID is in the customizable nature of its solutions. The network's partners can work with its rights management team in order to ensure videos are claimed and dealt with in the best possible manner.
While the social stars who make up much of Collab's roster will certainly find uses for the new technology, the network has also enlisted several media companies as rights management partners,...

The voting for Best Vines Ever is well underway over on Snakt. And fans are creating their own compilations and remixes from the more than 150,000 six-second clips originally created by over 400 of the site's biggest stars. One interesting throwback one we stumbled upon comes by way of Snakt user @lemonhead, who aggregated the first uploads from 10 well-known enterprising and early creators into one creative mix.

It's back! By popular demand, the Tubefilter Meetup is hitting up Los Angeles with at least one event every quarter in 2017.
We're incredibly excited and looking forward to once again playing host to YouTube stars big and small, aspiring and established digital media creators, enterprising entrepreneurs, entertainment industry executives, advertisers, and brand representatives as we all evaluate, critique, and navigate the ever-changing new media landscape among friends, acquaintances, and business associates old and new.
It's crazy to think we hosted our first Tubefilter Meetup almost a decade ago in 2008. Way back then it served as a focal point and stomping ground for individuals invested in the nascent online video and digital media industries. It was a time and place where people with budding businesses and big ideas could congregate to exchange inspirations and know-how or find collaborators for whatever project the democratized tools of entertainment production made possible.

From 2003 to 2007, one man had the most feared name in Hollywood: Ashton Kutcher.
The actor earned his reputation as one of the biggest pranksters in Tinseltown with the launch of Punk'd, his hidden-camera prank show that set out to trick the biggest stars around.
Though the show was revived back in 2012 for a one-season run with new host Justin Bieber, it's been far too long since we could watch celebrities accidentally break things, get their property "repossessed" and – on one memorable instance – even be accused of kidnapping. Though the show was revived back in 2012 for a one-season run with new host Justin Bieber, it's been far too long since we could watch celebrities accidentally break things, get their property "repossessed" and – on one memorable instance – even be accused of kidnapping. Luckily, our long prank drought has finally come to an end: Punk'd returns...

Black Entertainment Television (Bet) is reviving Punk’D, and has its new hosts all lined up. The cable and satellite TV channel has revealed Viner Andrew Bachelor (aka King Bach) and YouTube star DeStorm Power will host the reboot of Ashton Kutcher’s MTV celebrity pranking series from the mid-2000s.
Bet had originally announced the return of Punk’D back in April 2015. At the time, the cable channel told Vulture the show would be “tailored” to the channel’s audience, but didn’t clarify what that meant. Bet didn’t really give any more information about the series over the next few months, either.
Then, during the week of August 3, 2015, Bet said it was going to bring back its adult-themed music video show Uncut. On August 11, the cable channel released Uncut’s premiere episode… supposedly. After viewers were re-introduced to the original intro and disclaimer for Uncut, Bach and...

Last week, Bet announced it was rebooting its Nsfw music-video show, Uncut, after a nine-year hiatus. The timing seemed odd: The original aired at 3 a.m. Est, but this version would run at 11 p.m. A sign of the times, most assumed. Audiences tuned in Tuesday night for the show's supposed premiere hoping to see a director's cut of Nicki Minaj's "Anaconda" or whatever Bet's answer to PornHub might look like. Instead, they were victims of the worst kind of trolling. After duping fans with Uncut's original intro and a disclaimer, Bet quickly revealed that it was all a ruse. "Got 'em!" interrupted Vine star Andrew Bachelor and YouTube star DeStorm Power — Uncut's alleged new hosts — with the announcement that we'd all just been punk'd. But they weren't just referencing decade-old slang: It turns out faking Uncut's return was just one giant (and ethically questionable) marketing scheme to promote...

As Facebook increases its focus on video, a man who has already established himself across the social web is once again building up his audience, and online video content creators would be wise to take notice. DeStorm Power, who emerged as a star on YouTube before shifting his focus to sites like Vine and Instagram, is now paying close attention to Facebook, where he has rolled up more than 720,000 likes.
As DeStorm told Tubefilter, the connection between Facebook's decision to invest more resources into video and his own rise on the site is no coincidence. "When I saw that Facebook was really focusing on their video, I wanted to take advantage of that," he said. At the time, his Facebook audience totaled "a few hundred thousand fans." Since then, he has posted a plethora of images and videos on his page, and as a result, he now gets between 15,000 and 20,000 new likes each week.

Like an old friend returning to town, Epic Rap Battles of History has returned to YouTube. Nicepeter and EpicLloyd have released the debut episode of the third season of their hugely popular series and the first since a quintet of Russians finished off season two back in late April. In holding true to tradition, season three began with an evil showdown between Darth Vader and Adolf Hitler. To spice things up, the Erb team brought in KassemG as Lando Calrissian and provided viewers with a guest verse from prominent YouTube creator RayWilliamJohnson. RayWJ's take on Boba Fett is pretty fresh, though not as fresh as his guest verse on Destorm's King Kong mixtape. As always, the Erb announcer asks viewers "Who won? You decide!" This time, since the battle ends with Vader bisecting his Nazi foe, I feel like Peter and Lloyd have made that choice for us. If...

On June 11th, Samsung will host its 12th annual Hope for Children gala, an event celebrating the electronics company's charitable efforts, through which it has donated over $25 million to school, community, and charity organizations since 2002. Now, Samsung has invited celebrities to get in on the philanthropy, and YouTubers iJustine and DeStorm are among the participants in a Hope for Children social auction which will ultimately result in a $25,000 charitable donation. The contest, as iJustine explains in her entry video, challenges five competitors to generate the largest possible buzz related to Hope for Children. Whoever can generate the largest social media presence will win a $25,000 donation from Samsung to the charity of his or her choice. To rally his own troops, DeStorm has released a rap centered around the letter A. "I'm thrilled to be part of Samsung Hope for Children this year," he said. "This is my first year participating,...

Everyone has his or her unique way of greeting an audience, and MysteryGuitarMan Joe Penna has decided it's high time to mash together all of these greetings in one video. The inventive YouTuber has released 'Extreme Video Puzzle', a music video where the introductory styles of various channels are turned into a rhythmic delight. Depending on which channels you watch, you'll certainly recognize a few of your favorites, including DeStorm's "wassup, world!", Ronald Jenkees' "hello YouTubes!", and Smosh's signature "Shut. Up!" MysteryGuitarMan cues up these salutations on multiple computers, drops a beat behind them, and turns a few words into musical gold. Check it out for yourself: It is a fascinating video and a tribute to the site MysteryGuitarMan loves so much. CollegeHumor's signature guttural tone would've added a nice beat, but I can't fault Penna for his choices

Can Taye Diggs -- film, tv and Broadway actor -- really be that awful at something?
Nah, he's just a good sport.
In a new video from ABC Comedy, "Taye Diggs Destroys Hip-Hop," Mr. Perfect Smile takes on the challenge of becoming Hip Hop's golden boy with the help of YouTube sensation DeStorm Power. The trouble is, he can't seem to shake off his Broadway antics.
With the tagline "This is what happens when a Broadway singer tries to be a rapper," you're promised at the very least a few chuckles. We'll let this line from the clip do all the explaining: "Of course I've heard of rap music, or 'rhapsody,' as it was originally termed by one George Gershwin."

“He gave Stella her groove back. He broke hearts — and fixed them — on ABC’s Private Practice. He’s done it all: film, television, theater. But in his next act, an unlikely partnership with underground rap sensation DeStorm Power would change an entire genre of music… forever.”
So begins this Behind the Music-esque video from ABC.comedy, which dramatizes Taye Diggs’s fake attempt to become a hip-hop icon. The twist: Though Diggs seems like one of those guys who’s just naturally great at everything, he’s actually the worst rapper this side of Mc Skat Kat. But...

I watched this over the weekend on YouTube, and didn't realize it was part of some larger initiative by ABC; I thought it was just these 2 guys getting together and having fun.But it's part of ABC's Comedy Shorts series, ABC.comedy, which began in 2011 with video recaps for the network's comedies, and grew from there, to include original comedic digital video content, like web shorts, where the network says it's able to take more risks, while obviously still staying true to their brand. This one comes from Taye Diggs and YouTube personality DeStorm Power, titled Taye Diggs Destroys Hip Hop, which features Taye as an actor without a steady TV gig (post-Private Practice),...

We return with the latest edition of the Indie Spotlight, highlighting recent independent horror news sent our way. Today’s feature includes release details for A Resurrection, the first teaser trailer for Ten, a review of Smiley, and much more:
First Teaser Trailer for Ten: “Ten is a collectivist, post-exploitation psychological thriller devised as a possible explanation for the events of the 1972 Spektor Island Massacre. On a cold December afternoon, ten women arrive at a mansion on Spektor Island, famed for years of reported hauntings and strange activities. Will they live through the night?
The all-female cast film is a response to exploitation, slasher, and thriller films, with particular focus on the kind of storytelling prominent in b-movies and genre films from the 1950s to the 1980s. It explores the meaning and fluidity of identity and takes a number of surprising turns, paying homage to filmmakers and producers such as Alfred Hitchcock,...

Since the birth of YouTube in 2005, the platform that hosts Everything, including actors, artists and comedians — has spread like wildfire, launching careers and shining a spotlight on many outstanding talents beyond that dog on the skateboard. Eight years later, rather than being a springboard for these creatives to move to TV or labels, the Internet has become another medium for them to showcase their work. The third annual Streamy Awards will honor that work this Sunday.
Chris Hardwick, comedian and host of The Talking Dead on AMC, will host the show. He is an advocate for the global, niche audiences online shows reach.
