Today, writer/director Andrew Traucki’s The Reef: Stalked arrives in theaters and on Shudder. Starring Teressa Liane, Ann Truong, Saskia Archer, and Kate Lister, the sequel follows a group of women who come together for an idyllic kayaking trip after losing someone close to them to domestic violence. But when they encounter a bloodthirsty shark determined to make them its next victims, they must band together so they can survive the horrors awaiting them in the water.
Recently, Daily Dead had the opportunity to speak with Traucki about The Reef: Stalked (nearly 11 years to the day that this writer last spoke to the filmmaker about The Reef), and during our conversation, he discussed how the stars aligned to make the sequel more than a decade later, why it was important for him to focus part of this story on the issue of domestic violence, the challenges he faces while making his naturalistic thrillers,...

Despite the title and presence of writer/director Andrew Traucki, The Reef: Stalked is not a sequel to The Reef. Rather, like his films Black Water and Black Water: Abyss they’re unrelated films that share only a common monster, crocodiles in Black Water, and sharks in The Reef.
This time around we’re introduced to diving enthusiast Nic. After she finds her sister Cath dead, drowned in the bathtub by her abusive boyfriend Greg however that changes.
Nine months later she can’t even see water let alone resume diving, without imagining her sister’s death. Hoping it’ll be therapeutic she joins her old diving crew Jodie and Lisa, and her other sister Annie (Saskia Archer; Bali 2002) at the beach. Their kayaking trip turns out to be anything but...

"It's not gonna stop!!" Rlje + Shudder have debuted a final, wild trailer for The Reef: Stalked, the shark horror movie out in theaters this week - starting on July 29th. The Reef: Stalked is a sequel to Australian director Andrew Traucki's shark movie The Reef from 2010, and Traucki returns to write & direct this one 12 years later. After her sister's murder, Nic, her younger sister and two friends seek solace through a Pacific island kayaking adventure. Hours into the trip the women are stalked by a shark and must band together, face their fears and save each other facing the beast. This movie stars Teressa Liane (from "The Vampire Diaries"), Ann Truong (seen in "Cowboy Bebop"), Saskia Archer, Kate Lister, and Tim Ross. These trailers have not been that impressive, especially with so many other shark movies this year. There's barely any clear shots of the shark, just a lot of screaming.

"That thing is stalking us. It's hunting us, and it's not going to stop." Rlje + Shudder have revealed an official US trailer for The Reef: Stalked, another new shark horror movie. "We head for that island, it'll come for us again. It's not gonna stop." An international trailer has drifted in for another new shark horror movie, which they're churning out every few months it seems like. Survival thriller aficionado Andrew Traucki has commenced production on his latest project The Reef: Stalked, a sequel to 2010’s The Reef.
Filming began today in Queensland’s Bowen and will continue for six weeks.
Teressa Liane (The Vampire Diaries), Ann Truong Kate Lister and newcomer Saskia Archer make up the cast, playing four friends on a kayaking and diving trip in Papua New Guinea that soon goes sideways.
Much like in the original film, the group must face down a great white shark, with this instalment exploring resilience, recovering from trauma and the strength of female friendship.
“I’m thrilled The Reef: Stalked is in production and back to Bowen where we shot parts of The Reef 11 years ago,” writer/director Traucki said in a statement.
“As a lover of survival tales, there is nothing I enjoy more than storytelling that pits humans against nature and asks the question ‘How would I survive?...

Phoenix Raei, Shannon Berry, Cooper Van Grootel, Kate Lister and Daisy Axon are among the first actors on the roster of Creative Soul Management, a new talent management company just launched by Hallie McKeig.
The Perth-based McKeig has spent the last decade at the helm of Filmbites Talent Agency, but has decided to launch a more individualised management company given many of her actors are landing major roles in Australia and overseas.
“Creative Soul Management feels like the natural next step as we work more closely with actors on building rewarding international careers and lives in the film and television industry. We have a long term, comprehensive view towards working with great people, characters and stories,” she said.
McKeig will continue to run Filmbites, continuing its youth focus, while Creative Soul Management will specialise in national and international opportunities for breakout emerging and established talent.

Robert Rabiah in ‘Safe Harbour’
After a self-imposed exile, Robert Rabiah is returning to the screen early next year in Maziar Lahooti’s Below, an action-drama set in a refugee detention centre.
The actor decided he needed a break after playing Bilal in Matchbox Pictures’ Sbs miniseries Safe Harbour directed by Glendyn Ivin.
Bilal’s brother Ismail (Hazem Shammas) and sister-in-law Zahra (Nicole Chamoun), Iraqi asylum seekers, were struck by tragedy when their nine-year-old daughter died after their vessel sank.
Rabiah tells If: “Bilal was such a draining character to play. Even though a lot of scenes didn’t make the cut, feeling my stomach turn every morning was intense and I just needed to travel for a while.”
Produced by Nick Batzias of Good Thing Productions, Veronica Gleeson and Kate Neylon and due to shoot in Wa in January, Below stars Ryan Corr as Dougie, a directionless dreamer who...

[Note: With the film finally released on DVD here in the UK (the Us release was over a year ago), here’s a reposting of our review of Fox Trap, now retitled Don’t Blink for its UK debut]
After a cruel prank goes wrong on prom night leaving a young girl disabled, the group go their separate ways and try to leave the incident in the past. Eight years later the group are invited to a country side manor for a reunion. Things may seem strange at first, but as the night goes on they realise they can’t escape the past and find themselves at the mercy of a masked killer out for revenge.
Don’t Blink manages to recreate the classic slasher genre for a modern audience, although it still maintains the characterises and formula which made the revenge slashers films of the 80’s so popular.

Tagline: "Death is Watching." A few details are emerging from the cornfields for Curse of the Scarecrow. In the vein of Dark Night of the Scarecrow (1981), Husk (2011), Sheldon Wilson's Scarecrow (2013) - Curse of the Scarecrow takes place after a tragedy. June and Carl have seen their parents killed, at an early age. Determined to find their killers, June returns to her family home, only to find the grounds haunted by a murderous scarecrow. This title, from director Louisa Warren, stars: Kate Lister and Cassandra French. Several stills and an early concept poster are hosted here. There are two synopses for the film. The shorter one mentions that June and Carl return to a family farm, twenty years after their parent's death. Not long after, Carl mysteriously commits suicide. In the longer synopsis, the scarecrow is waging a cornstalk filled war, on an entire town. The crows fly in this film!

You started making films at a young age. What first got you into film making?
When I was young my parents got me a couple of these, behind the scenes books, mainly for Jurassic Park (1993). It showed you all these animatronic dinosaurs, what they looked like without skin on. They had the camera pointed at scenes where they have a head poking in and if the camera pans slightly to the right you would have this dude with all this metal polls and stuff. I just loved that idea of making things for the screen.
I have always been interested in the construction of film and I think Jurassic Park was one of the first films,...

Lucy-Jane Quinlan has had a successful career on both stage and screen, most recently appearing in the upcoming horror remake Unhinged (2017). We had the chance to speak to her about her role in the film, her career so far and other projects she is involved in.
How did you first get into acting?
I wanted to do musical theatre, I thought that was the only path for me, so at 17 years old I was in my first year of sixth form and I found this college that I wanted to go to called Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts and it was a degree course. I was one of the eldest in my year so I would have only been 17, and then three weeks in I would have been 18. I thought why not just go for it. I am just going to tell them the truth, this is my age, but can I come in.

Both versions of Unhinged deal with a group of travelling friends. They are heading to a wedding, in England. But, the girls have a confrontation with a strange driver, leaving them stranded in the woods. A remote house offers shelter. But, Miss Perkins (Michelle Archer) is storing someone or something in the attic. Now, these bridesmaids must escape 'it,' if they...

With the recent release of the erotic thriller Darker Shades of Elise, I got a chance to talk to Becky Fletcher about her feature films coming out 2017, the challenges of acting and her morbidly unique acting bucket list. Check out the interview, in full, below:
How did you first get into acting?
I have done it my whole life. I started off doing stage at school and progress my studies to A level university. I didn’t come into screen acting until I moved to London, it’s one of the things I came here for, I wanted to do more film and stuff behind the camera. I didn’t really start training in that discipline until I moved here a couple of years ago, but it’s kind of been an ongoing thing since then.
You are currently working with Proportion Productions who are releasing five films this year...

Fox Trap manages to recreate the classic slasher genre for a modern audience, although it still maintains the characterises and formula which made the revenge slashers films of the 80’s so popular. That classic era of horror where pranks went...

Melissa (Kate Lister) and her three friends have come from America and are travelling along the back roads of England on route to her wedding. When Melissa is attacked, her sister Lisa (Lucy-Jane Quinlan) accidentally kills the attacker when trying to save her. Concerned as to how this would look, they decide to hide the body in the boot of the car with the intention of burying the body later.
After continuing their journey, they run out of petrol in the middle of the Essex countryside. With nothing around for several miles, they seek help from a nearby cottage, where the solo occupier Miss Perkins (Michelle Archer) offers them somewhere to stay until the local gardener returns to help. No phones, no help and a dead body in the car. Things may seem bad now, but they don’t realise it’s going to get worse.

Slasher movies have always flooded the Dtv marketplace as they are quick to make and cheap to produce and ultimately the go to sub-genre for student filmmakers. With this easy access, the vast majority of these films are bound to be either completely unwatchable or so devoid of talent that you end up wondering why you bothered. I’d be lying if I told you Fox Trap breaks new ground or plays outside the box, it doesn’t, but what it does well is emulate the best aspects of past slasher favourites and provides a thriller that will surely please genre fans.
Keeping with tradition, Fox Trap opens with a prologue. It’s prom night and a group of friends prank one of their fellow classmates, naturally the stunt goes horribly wrong. Fast forward eight years later, and the same group of friends have all received invitations to a reunion...

Last month we brought you news on the forthcoming remake of the former video nasty Unhinged, which UK distributor 88 Films, along with ITN Distribution have picked up for a release in the fourth quarter of this year on DVD and VOD. The film comes from Proportion Productions, a new UK filmmaking shingle who have been churning out films such as Fox Trap, 12 Deaths of Christmas and The House on Elm Lake – all of which are due for DVD and VOD release worldwide sometime in October/November – with Unhinged marking the directorial feature debut of Dan Allen, who won the ‘Best Young Filmmaker’ award at the Coca-Cola Cinemagic Film Festival back in 2009.
Unhinged stars a bevy of British talent, including Kate Lister, Lucy Jane-Quinlan, Becky Fletcher, Louisa Warren – may of whom have appeared in other Proportion Productions output.
The official synopsis:
Four American girls travel through the backlands in North England travelling to a funeral.

Unhinged was one of many movies in the early 80s to find itself tangled up in the video nasties scandal here in the UK… However, unlike a lot of its “nasty” brethren, the film was less controversial, actualy playing more ike a traditional slasher movie than a gore-filled monstrosity. Which is why the film has since been re-released, without cuts; as most recently as 2014, when then-burgeoning UK distributor 88 Films put out the film on DVD.
Now I mention 88 Films as they, along with ITN Distribution have picked up a Remake, yes remake, of the former video nasty for a release on DVD and VOD this year. But wait, I hear you ask, who’s behind this remake? Well…
