Well, get ready to witness the magic of ‘Lion King’ in a whole new way as Mufasa: The Lion King’s first teaser trailer was recently dropped (April 29). And we got to learn that Hamilton star Lin-Manuel Miranda is in charge of the soundtrack for the live-action animated prequel to The Lion King.

With the arrival of the first trailer for the "live-action" "Lion King" prequel "Mufasa: The Lion King" came news that the film's music is being spearheaded by Lin-Manuel Miranda. In the aftermath of the smash success of his stage musical "Hamilton" (which was eventually released as a movie on Disney+), Miranda seemed to be the guy in Hollywood, working on music for things like "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," "Moana," "Vivo," and "Encanto," just to name a few, while also physically appearing on screen in "Mary Poppins Returns," "In the Heights," "His Dark Materials," and more. The dude was everywhere, and, as often happens when someone becomes overexposed, a backlash began. His past couple of years have been more subdued, and "Mufasa: The Lion King" marks his return to the familiar arms of The Walt Disney Company.

Canadian actor-brothers Shamier Anderson (John Wick 4) and Stephan James (If Beale Street Could Talk) had their stars unveiled on Scarborough’s Walk of Fame. The men were raised in the marginalized Toronto community by a single mother who emigrated to Canada from Jamaica.
“It’s really humbling and flattering to receive something like this in my hometown, at a mall where I grew up, where I shopped, it’s pretty cool,” Anderson told The Hollywood Reporter.
The local Walk of Fame honor for the fast-rising Hollywood stars is more than an exercise in collective positive thinking for an inner-city neighborhood that earlier brought to the world celebrities like Mike Myers, Jim Carrey and The Weeknd.
The brothers are at work via their Bay Mills Studios production banner — named after the community housing project they grew up in Scarborough — on a landmark TV drama set in the inner-city community that is their home away from Hollywood.

What if Ilana from “Broad City” was pregnant?
If you want to find out, watch the trailer for “Babes,” which Neon released on Thursday.
In the comedy film, which Ilana Glazer wrote with Josh Rabinowitz, the “Broad City” alum plays Eden, a proudly single, thirtysomething New Yorker who gets pregnant from a one-night stand and decides to keep the baby. She relies on her best friend Dawn (Michelle Buteau), a married mother of two, for help. It’s going to be a very challenging process, and not even Dawn is sure Eden will be able to pull it off. The humor seems like a more grown-up version of the chaotic whimsy Glazer brought to “Broad City,” her beloved Comedy Central sitcom.

"You did not tell me how sexy it was to be pregnant! Were you crazy horny??" Neon has revealed an official trailer for the comedy titled Babes, the first feature film directed by the actress Pamela Adlon. This recently premiered at the 2024 SXSW Film Festival and it's set for a US debut in theaters this May. After becoming pregnant from a one-night stand, Eden leans on her married best friend and mother of two, Dawn, to guide her through gestation and beyond. From co-writers Ilana Glazer and Josh Rabinowitz, Babes is a hilarious and heartfelt comedy about the bonds of friendship and the messy, unpredictable challenges of adulthood and becoming a parent. Starring Ilana Glazer as Eden and Michelle Buteau as Dawn, along with John Carroll Lynch, Hasan Minhaj, Stephan James, Oliver Platt, and Sandra Bernhard. This looks like some crafty pregnancy humor, making fun of every aspect of parenting & the emotional pregnancy process.

Ilana Glazer is taking her “Broad City” persona to the next level: parenthood. Glazer co-wrote coming-of-age buddy comedy “Babes” with Josh Rabinowitz to chart the hilarity of becoming a parent while still being very much an adolescent at heart.
“Babes” follows inseparable childhood best friends Eden (Glazer) and Dawn (Michelle Buteau), two New York City natives who find themselves in different phases of adulthood. When carefree and single Eden decides to have a baby on her own after a one-night stand, their friendship faces its greatest challenge yet, especially as the more responsible Dawn is already a mother of two.
The dramedy marks Pamela Adlon’s feature directorial debut, and alongside Glazer and Buteau, co-stars John Carroll Lynch, Oliver Platt, Sandra Bernhard, Stephan James, and Hasan Minhaj. Co-writers Glazer and Rabinowitz produced the feature along with Susie Fox, Breean Solberg, and Ashley Fox.

By turns tender and raucous, Pamela Adlon’s feature-length directorial debut, Babes, spins the uneasy, unwelcome, weirdly cool corporeal realities of pregnancy into heartfelt comic gold. The film often feels like a kindred spirit or companion piece to Gillian Robespierre’s Obvious Child, with star and co-writer Illana Glazer stepping into the Jenny Slate role as a woman whose arrested development brushes up against the realities of potential motherhood.
Babes stars Glazer as Eden, a yoga instructor who’s Thanksgiving plans are waylaid when her bestie, Dawn (Michelle Buteau), goes into labor with her second child. After a chance subway encounter and one-night stand with a charming actor (Stephan James), Eden finds herself pregnant. Woefully unprepared and estranged from her sole remaining parent (Oliver Platt), Eden leans on Dawn and her husband, Marty (Hasan Minhaj), to help her through the pregnancy and transition into single motherhood. A female colleague once said that all movies about pregnancy fall under the category “body horror,” regardless of whether they’re a horror film or not. When I naively asked if that was true, she replied: Dude, have you ever been pregnant? Check, and mate. Pop culture’s overall view regarding bringing new life into the world as a simple, follow-the-manual miracle has stuck even into the 21st century: You get an adorable baby bump, gotta rush to the hospital, labor can be hard, and then [pop] out comes a newborn.

When Judd Apatow and the boys make an R-rated pregnancy comedy, they call it “Knocked Up.” But when “Broad City” co-creator Ilana Glazer and stand-up comic Michelle Buteau try their hand at the same subject, the every-bit-as-raunchy result comes with a far classier title: “Babes.”
That pun is just one of the movie’s many acts of irreverent reclamation, as helmer Pamela Adlon — making a confident switch to feature directing after seminal small-screen contributions to “Louie” and “Better Things” — and her stars de-objectify a label used by dudes, slapping it on themselves. The cheeky term applies to both lifelong amigas Eden (Glazer) and Dawn (Buteau) and the infants they spend most of the movie incubating. These babes are making babies, and you might be surprised just how much comedy there is still to be milked from that seemingly universal (but still widely underexamined) subject.

“Babes,” a new comedy about the highs and lows of pregnancy and early motherhood, received a boisterous welcome at its SXSW premiere on Saturday. The audience frequently broke into sustained waves of laughter as they watched BFFs Eden and Dawn (Michelle Buteau) contend with how Dawn’s second child and Eden’s unexpected pregnancy upend their lifelong, so-close-they-send-each-other-photos-of-their-poops friendship.
At the post-screening Q&a, Glazer — also joined by director Pamela Adlon (“Better Things”) and co-writer Josh Rabinowitz — explained that producer Susie Fox, while showering, had a vision of making a movie about how she and so many people she knew (including Glazer and Rabinowitz) were either impending or new parents.

MGM+ has officially confirmed season two of the sci-fi thriller Beacon 23 will air on the streaming service. The series was originally set up with Spectrum Originals and AMC Networks, and a second season had already been ordered prior to season one’s premiere on MGM+ on November 12, 2023.

Zak Penn (Ready Player One) created the series and serves as an executive producer. Glen Mazzara (Damien) and Joy Blake (The Passage) are co-showrunners on the eight-episode second season and executive produce.

Seasons one and two were filmed back-to-back, but Spectrum Originals shut down in 2022 before season one aired. MGM+ snatched up the series, and their announcement confirms fans of the show based on Hugh Howey’s bestseller will return to the world of Beacon 23 in April 2024.

The first season of sci-fi thriller “Beacon 23,” starring Lena Headey (“Game of Thrones”) and Stephan James (“If Beale Street Could Talk”), reached its conclusion Sunday with MGM+ dropping the eight-episode season’s final two installments. Showrunner Glen Mazzara spoke with TheWrap to break down the first season’s arc, where the show’s heading in Season 2 and more.
The following contains Spoilers for the finale of Season 1.
Lena Headey’s Aster suffered what appears to be a fatal injury in the Season 1 finale, when cultist Keir (Marc Menchaca) shot her with a concussive gun that knocked her back. Her head hit a railing and she fell, eyes open, apparently dead — though this is science fiction, so audiences will have to wait to see what comes next.

MGM+ has renewed sci-fi mystery thriller series Beacon 23 for a second season. The eight-episode season 2 will premiere on the streaming service in April. The news is not a surprise. The series already had been renewed by Spectrum and AMC, where it originally had been greenlit, and MGM+ is now formally committing to air it.
Starring Stephan James and Lena Headey in Season 1, Beacon 23, based on the best-selling book by Hugh Howey, is created and executive produced by Zak Penn.
Set in the farthest reaches of the Milky Way, Season 1 followed Aster (Headey), a government agent, and Halan (James), a stoic ex-military man, whose fates became entangled after they found themselves trapped together inside one of many Beacons that served as a lighthouse for intergalactic travelers. In Season Two, Beacon 23 is now little more than a prison with Aleph onboard, and The Artifact provides more questions than answers.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Beacon 23 Season 1 finale.] Did Beacon 23 just kill off Aster (Lena Headey)?! It certainly looked that way in the finale, but remember what we seen from her all season. In the finale, Aster decides she’ll go into the artifact and receive the message that she’ll share with everyone — humans and AI — and Halan (Stephan James) agrees to join her, for 24 hours and that’s it. But Keir (Marc Menchaca) says he can’t let her do that and shoots her. Is she dead? Or will her connection to the mysterious artifact that has drawn in quite a few people save her? “I will just say that I know the audience is going to have questions about, is Aster really dead? Those questions will be answered in a Season 2, if we run Season 2,” executive producer Glen Mazzara told TV Insider. “But one of the things that is fun about making the show,...

There’s a specific picture that comes up time and time again in MGM+’s Beacon 23, of a lone man standing just outside a lighthouse as a massive wave comes crashing from behind. Whether the man makes it inside, whether he drowns, why he was out there in the first place are left up for the viewer to imagine, based on their own hopes or fears. But the not-knowing casts a certain mood in itself.
It’s a fitting prop for a series that similarly proves more interested in raising questions than answering them, and that likewise suggests the uncertainty might be the point. Its endless searching can prove frustrating at times, particularly when the sci-fi drama stumbles over basic flaws in its storytelling. But those with enough curiosity and patience to wait out its rough patches — and those with a taste for cerebral sci-fi — may find themselves falling under its plaintive spell.

Claustrophobia is a common side effect in the world-building of sci-fi writer Hugh Howey, whose postapocalyptic breakthrough Silo (filmed for Apple TV+) unfolds in a massive underground bunker. In the rather less compelling Beacon 23, based on a collection of his short stories, the setting is out of this world, the action largely contained within a futuristic lighthouse at the edge of the galaxy. This is where Halan (Homecoming’s Stephan James), a soldier who may have gone Awol, rescues the enigmatic Aster (Game of Thrones’ steely Lena Headey), sole survivor of a crashed vessel who appears to be an agent of the Interstellar Space Authority. There’s an immediate distrust between the two, inflamed by the facility’s gabby resident AI, named Bart (voiced by Wade Bogert-o’Brien), who accuses Halan of having murdered the most recent beacon keeper (a hilariously flamboyant Stephen Root). Why is Halan even there? What’s Aster’s story,...

The trades announced the project during the summer of last year so we’re thinking this is more than ready.…...

Beacon 23 tracks Halan and Aster as they fight for survival at the edge of space, stranded as beacon keepers responsible for the spacecraft’s safety.
We’ll go out on a limb and claim that only some things in the new show Beacon 23 are as it seems. Based on the trailer, there appears to be some foul play going on, and when it happens in a space station a long way away from Earth, we can’t help but adore it.
Beacon 23 | Official Trailer
The trailer opens with Calyx waking up on the titular beacon, yet it quickly becomes apparent that her arrival at this solitary outpost was an aspect of her plan. However, her efforts to learn more about the beacon keeper Halan Kai Nelson are less productive than she had hoped, resulting in a complicated game in which both sides’ motives remain unclear.

Gearing up for the holidays, Disney+ series “The Santa Clauses” has dropped the trailer for its second season.
Set after the events of “The Santa Clause” films, the Christmas television series has Tim Allen reprising his role as Scott Calvin/Santa, who decides to retire from the “Santa” position in season one and find a new replacement. However, the end of the first season saw Scott fail to find an individual worthy of the “Santa” title. This time around, Scott is determined to train his son, Cal (Austin Kane), to be the perfect Santa successor.
“The best part of Christmas is spending time with your loved ones,” Scott says in the new trailer. “Which is why I’m so geeked to turn Santa into a family business.”
