London, Sep 16 (Ians) Manchester City striker Erling Haaland on Friday won the Premier League Player of the Month award for August.
Having joined the Club from Borussia Dortmund in the summer, the Norwegian international has enjoyed a sensational start to life at the Etihad and scored nine goals in August alone.
The 22-year-old claimed a brace of goals on his debut, helping City secure a 2-0 win at West Ham on the opening day of the season. He then struck again in the 3-3 draw at Newcastle before recording back-to-back hat-tricks in City’s victories against Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest.
The striker became only the sixth player to score hat-tricks in consecutive Premier League appearances and the first to achieve the feat since Harry Kane in 2017. His nine goals in his first five appearances were the most in the competition’s history, breaking the record of eight previously held...

Blackburn Rovers have never beaten Northwest rivals Manchester City since the Etihad outfit was taken over by the Abu Dhabi United Group in 2008. These two sides, both former Premier League champions, will face one another in the opening game of Fa Cup third round weekend.
Bankrolled by Arab billions, City boast a recent record of six wins and three draws against Rovers. Prior to that, Blackburn managed five successive victories in this fixture – including their last meeting in the world’s oldest knockout football competition.
Mark Hughes masterminded that Fa Cup quarter-final win at Ewood Park in March 2007 with Aaron Mokoena netting the opener before being sent off. Matt Derbyshire later sealed victory for Rovers. Hughes later went on to manage City.
South African striker Benni McCarthy scored the only goal the following September when Blackburn last won this encounter.

James Milner looks set to make his first Champions League appearance of the season as a deputy for the injured Silva, whilst manager Mancini has a selection dilemma as to who to play up front, with the red-hot form of Bosnian Edin Dzeko putting him in the mix alongside Mario Balotelli, Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez.
“It is always difficult.” Said the Italian manager. “When you have four strikers like Mario [Balotelli], Sergio [Aguero], Carlos [Tevez] and Edin, you can’t play them all.”

Whenever Joey Barton opens his mouth or, more frequently, puts his fingers to the keyboard, the British press salivates at the midfielder’s latest platter of beef, and this time it is with Manchester City battering ram, Carlos Tevez. According to reports in today’s papers, Barton poured salt on a wound that has been perpetually weeping since the final day of the 11/12 Premier League. Allegedly, the bull-headed midfielder, now plying his trade in Ligue 1 with Olympique Marseille, resurrected his annoyance with the Fa over the twelve-match ban he received for resorting to playground tactics and giving City striker Sergio Aguero a dead leg, during a melee that began with an off-the-ball scrape between Barton and Tevez. Aside from raising a rather valid argument about the extent of his punishment, incredulously more severe than those handed out to John Terry and Luis Suarez for more obviously deplorable offences, Barton took...

A city’s football heart is pounding! It’s the final day of the season and Manchester City and Manchester United are level on points as each go into their final game of the season. As the final whistle blows it’s the blue side of Manchester that’s celebrating a euphoric victory; their first in decades. United, however are left ruing their 1-2 defeat at home to Sunderland as City win the league by 2 points after a pulsating 4-3 victory over Newcastle United. If the events strike you as similar yet misleading, it may be because you are thinking of City’s 11/12 campaign victory, but this one was many years before even Sergio Aguero was born and well before the “billions” arrived! It was the time when Manchester City were crowned champions over their local rivals on the final day of the 67/68 Football League First Division season.

This is the worst possible time for Manchester City to be playing host to Sunderland. In the Premier League Champions’ last five League and Cup games, they have managed to pick up just the one win – that was against Fulham last weekend but followed a 2-4 League Cup defeat to Aston Villa and a 3-2 defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League – a competition of which they are floundering in. They were outplayed at home by Dortmund for large portions of the game in midweek, and should consider themselves very fortunate to have come away with a point.
City are looking for their first back to back win of the season, but face a side who took four points off them last season and who were the only team to come away from the Etihad undefeated...

Mario Balotelli scored a 90th minute equaliser for Manchester City as his side were awarded a controversial penalty against Borussia Dortmund at the Etihad last night.
The German Champions had earlier deservedly taken the lead through Marco Reus after substitute Jack Rodwell attempted a back pass to Hart, only for the 23 tear old to pick up the loose ball and send a drive just past the outstretched hand of Hart and in.
Much had been said prior to kick off of how Dortmund defeated Manchester United in the semi-finals of the Champions League in 1996 on their way to winning the competition, and for half an hour it looked likely that the Germans would add another scalp from Manchester to their possessions.
Dortmund were worthy of their lead, having peppered Harts goal with a string of attempts prior to making the breakthrough. 12 minutes in, Hart was forced into making a smart...

According to the Sun, Chelsea are preparing to make a £45 million bid for Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao. Preliminary discussions have reportedly already taken place between the clubs over a January move.
The 26-year-old forward was purchased from Fc Porto for £32 million just last year by the Spanish club as a replacement for Sergio Aguero.
A Chelsea source admitted:
“The groundwork is already being done for Falcao. The owner wants everything in place now so a deal can be done before any other club can make a counter-offer.”
The Colombian striker netted 24 league goals last season. Falcao impressed Chelsea chairman Roman Abramovich after the striker scored a hat-trick against them last month when Atletico Madrid crushed Chelsea 4-1 in the UEFA Super Cup.

Football pundits are obsessed with calling the Premier League ‘The Best League in the World’; a ludicrous statement to make, especially since their argument revolves around the belief that any team can beat any team on their day and that 20th can beat 1st.
Wolves by the way – who finished in 20th – didn’t defeat any of the top eight clubs last season and Manchester City didn’t lose to any of the bottom seven teams.
The Sun newspaper declared that the league was officially the best when 80 of the 368 players at Euro 2012 were shown to be playing their domestic football in England. By the time of the semi-finals – when the weaker teams had been eliminated – 27 players represented La Liga, 22 were from Serie A, 19 played in the Bundesliga and eight were from the Premier League, two less than the Primera League in Portugal.

We usually don't feature a non-movie-related television commercial unless it is directed by a famous director, or a director who is signed to an upcoming project, but there are exceptions for every rule. Nike Sportswear's Just Do It - "Human Chain" is a 60-second spot which took over two years to complete (from what I can tell, production began in October 2007). From Slamxhype: "Nike’s new short film, Human Chain, celebrates the intensity, dynamism and determination that connects athletes in all sports and motivates them to inspiring performances. From Lance Armstrong on his bike, to a six-year-old studying martial arts, movement is the universal language that connects the athlete in everyone. It’s a language of beauty, drama, tragedy and triumph." The spot features South African sprinter Oscar Pistorius, the Argentine striker Sergio Aguero, the Utah Jazz players Deron Williams, Maria Sharapova, the specialist Bmx Mike Spinner, Mma Fighter Quinton “Rampage” Jackson,...
