Although he might not have been as appreciated when he debuted in Attack of the Clones in 2002 (the very shoddy CG did not help), wise Besalisk diner owner Dexter Jettster has enjoyed a bit of a Star Wars renaissance in recent years on social media. The subject of countless memes and gifs on Twitter and Reddit, Dexter is one of several Prequel Trilogy characters who have enjoyed a bit of a reevaluation from fans who grew up with those movies, even if in this case it’s largely just for laughs.
But Dexter’s latest appearance in Star Wars canon is no laughing matter. In fact, his return in the short story collection From a Certain Point of View: Return of the Jedi finds Dexter at a low point in his long life. If you’ve ever wondered just what happened to Obi-Wan Kenobi’s jovial pal after Episode II,...

This post contains spoilers for "Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi."
In one of the more infamous deleted scenes from "Star Wars: Attack of the Clones," the Jedi Librarian Jocastu Nu laments to Obi-Wan Kenobi that the Jedi Order lost Count Dooku. He was once a Jedi, and one who deserved their respect and admiration. He was always held in high esteem, even after his departure from the order. And that is why it was so surprising to so many Jedi that he turned to the ways of the Sith and the Dark Side.
But Dooku was always troubled as a Jedi. Even his first episode in the new animated series "Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi" shows us his struggle against darker uses of the Force. Yet also it shows how Qui-Gon Jinn balanced him. The second episode he appears in deepens his struggle with the politics of the Jedi and the Senate.

As fans of George Lucas’ Original Trilogy will no doubt know, Luke Skywalker escaped with his life (sans right hand) following his revelatory fight with Darth Vader at the end of Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back, but the Jedi-to-be’s path could have taken a very different turn had luck – and gross incompetence on the Empire’s behalf – not been on his side.
A particular story featured in recently published anthology The Empire Strikes Back: From A Certain Point of View provides some fascinating insight into life as a soldier in Palpatine’s galactic dictatorship, specifically those responsible for its daily upkeep. Telling the tale of a team responsible for reviewing footage recorded by Imperial Probe Droids, Kiersten White’s Eyes of the Empire short story contains a particularly noteworthy scene.

From a Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back is a fun anthology of Star Wars tales. Like its predecessor, it offers a variety of stories rather than simply evoking the dark second act of the original movie trilogy in particular. Here are slapstick comedies and lamentations, space battles and alien conclaves. Although some of the stories lack structure or feel unfinished, there are enough good ones here to please just about any Star Wars fan.
One sure crowd-pleaser is “Rendezvous Point,” a Rogue Squadron tale by Jason Fry. This is a fun jaunt back into the spirit of the old X-Wing books, down to the pilot slang, jokes, Z-95 Headhunters, and “uglies.” The dialogue is funny, sincere, heartfelt, and expresses exactly what it means to. It also provides a sweet look at the leaders of the Rebellion, whose disappearance after the Battle of Hoth in the movie provides the stakes.

Whatever happens with the new Buffy TV series, there is a new Slayer story worth your time.
To tell you the truth, until recently, I was kind of over Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I got on board with the series late, binge-watching my then-roommate’s box sets to catch up in time to watch the final season air.
There are so many moments from that show that really show what a television series can be—and the series is still frequently regarded as one of the most influential and important shows of modern television. When the show concluded in 2003, I was satisfied with the ending. I watched some of the last season of Angel and dabbled in reading the Dark Horse comics for a bit (Season 8 had some very cool moments), but I found my interest waning.

Friday's Comic-Con schedule is packed with panels and events for horror fans, but Saturday's schedule is looking good as well with panels for TV shows like Stan Against Evil and The Purge. As for me, the highlight is going to be the Warner Brothers Theatrical panel, where we're expecting to get the first look at Michael Dougherty's Godzilla: King of the Monsters.

Happy Birthday, Frankenstein
This upcoming Halloween, there will be an international celebration of the 200th anniversary of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. And with that comes a plethora of books and movies rejoicing this occasion. At this panel, listen to authors talk about the influence that Mary Shelley's writing had on their works and why people still obsess over Frankenstein. And watch as they talk about the monsters that never die in their own novels.

Sunday July 15th is the last day of Comic-Con 2012, and most of us will be completely worn out looking like Spider-Man in the image above. Chances are he's asleep under that mask. Sunday has always been a cool down day for us, we kind of just try to relax a little bit more and enjoy it. That doesn't mean their isn't anything to see or do though!
We've got a Fringe screening and Q&A, Doctor Who, Buffy the Vampire Slayer 20th Anniversary, Sons of Anarchy, the annual Buffy the Vampire Slayer musical screening, and more! I've always wanted to go the Buffy musical sing-a-long, but am usually trying to leave San Diego before it starts.
Just a little reminder, we will be having our annual GeekTyrant meet up this year to meet our readers, which is something we always enjoy doing! That will take place on Wednesday night, and...

Comic-Con Sundays are typically light on horror, and this year is no exception although once again our favorite panel, "Supernatural", is heading to Hall H. Here are the genre highlights as well as info on the 36th annual Robert A. Heinlein Blood Drive.
One thing we can't stress enough is to keep checking the Sdcc website for updates as nothing's set in stone until the event actually starts happening.

Another day, another schedule for the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con. Next up is Day 3 - Saturday, July 14th - which is just about as chock-full of events for the horror crowd as Friday the 13th!

Comic-Con International has released the full schedule for Sunday July 24th for San Diego Comic-Con 2011. This is the final day of the convention. Sunday is known as Kids day and is usually the slowest of all the days, there are a few surprises though. In all my years of going to Comic-Con I've never been to a panel in Hal H. Usually nothing is happening in Hall H on Sunday, this year there are a few TV programs going on in Hall H such a as Glee, Supernatural, Doctor Who, The Cleveland Show, Sons of Anarchy, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and this year Buffy the Musical will be in the great Hall as well. I've never been to the Buffy Musical event, and I think I finally want to go this year. A couple of other things worth noting are a one on one panel with Nathan Fillion, and Max Brooks talks about zombies.
