Ravi Teja-starrer Eagle’s 1st Day Box Office Prediction ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Eagle, starring Tollywood star Ravi Teja, has hit theatres today, on February 9. The movie has opened to good advance bookings in India and overseas. Check out the detailed Box office report.
The much-awaited film created waves before its theatrical release. Eagle was earlier scheduled to hit theatres on January 13 for the Sankranti festive season. Due to the screen crunch caused by Mahesh Babu’s Guntur Kaaram, Ravi Teja and the producers of his film were forced to make a difficult decision. In order to give their movie the best chance of success, they agreed to postpone the release and choose a later date when it could enjoy a solo run in theaters. This was a strategic move to ensure that the film would have maximum exposure and not be overshadowed by the competition.
Looks like their decision is paying off.

ReviewThough Srinivas Avasarala’s film is about Anupama (Malavika Nair) and Sanjay’s (Naga Shaurya) love story, you hardly know anything about them. The characters are written poorly and without any depth.Srinivas Avasarala’s Phalana Abbayi Phalana Ammayi looks like a Quentin Tarantino film – divided into chapters, but there ends the resemblance. The film opens in 2010 in the United Kingdom and the chapters begin from the year 2000 when Sanjay (Naga Shaurya) and Anupama (Malavika Nair) are students in an engineering college. Unlike most films with star heroes, there is no introduction shot for the male lead or the female lead; they are introduced in the most mundane manner and sadly this approach extends to the entire film. The chapters from the year 2000 to 2010 proceed chronologically in the most boring manner. Perhaps, realising that presenting a story in this fashion without any excitement or tension – the elements essential for good storytelling – is drab,...

Shooting a movie where the entire second half is about space and Extra Vehicular Activity is no mean achievement either. Sankalp Reddy of Ghazi Attack fame has showed guts to pick a theme like this and for that, he should be lauded along with Varun Tej, who has almost sacrificed himself to make this movie work. The movie has some really good conflicts as well. However, all these diverse elements, which are impressive individually, somehow do not fall into place together. However, Kamala Selvaraj, daughter of actor Gemini Ganesan through his first wife and noted gynaecologist, is angry over the biopic as she says it shows her father in poor light. In an interview with Tnie, Kamala Selvaraj pointed out that some facts in the film are either false or distorted and so have hurt her family. She says that it is totally untrue that Gemini Ganesan introduced Savitri to alcohol. Kamala Selvaraj is reported to have said that her father tried to save Savitri on several occasions and at one point of time had gone to her house but was thrown out by the guards over there. Ever since then, he refused to meet Savitri and the relationship ended on a bad note, she said revealing that she was there with her dad during the incident. Mahanati/Nadigaiyar Thilagam, directed by Nag Ashwin, stars Keerthy Suresh as Savitri and Dulquer Salmaan as Gemini Ganesan. The film is doing extraordinarily well in the Us. TollywoodComedy? Science fiction? Fantasy? Horror? 'Awe' is all of it and yet none of it. Sowmya RajendranPrashant Varma’s Awe is a difficult film to review. And if you plan to watch it, you should probably stop reading and come back after you’ve seen it. At a taut runtime of 1 hour 55 minutes, the film takes the viewer through a mind-boggling experience that’s fairly new for Indian cinema (I was reminded of the Malayalam film Carbon - but that's only because we have so few films which play mind games with the audience), let alone Tollywood. Yes, Hollywood films have already done it but I shall desist from naming them because that would work as a huge spoiler. The film opens with Kajal Aggarwal sitting in a restaurant and playing a “Do it-don’t do it” game by plucking the petals of a rose. The answer she ends up with is “Do it”. The narrative then swiftly moves to another scenario. A young woman (Eesha Rebba) is waiting to introduce her lover, Krish, to her parents. The set-up is conventional. The parents ask the usual nosy questions. There’s some cheeky humour woven in. You sit back thinking this is going to be an enjoyable comedy and then... boom! Prashant Varma bowls a bouncer. At this point, I was hoping the director wouldn’t turn this into a stale sex comedy. The presence of an intelligent actor like Nithya Menen assured me that he wouldn’t. And I wasn’t disappointed. From this segment, the film jumps to another bizarre one and then another and then another and then... you get the idea. In the process, ideas of time, space, gender and even sexual orientation are questioned, beautifully so. Devadarshini, who usually does the “homely” or comic sister roles, appears as a badass weirdo on a wheelchair. Priyadarshi Pullikonda, who has become a stock "funny friend" fixture, gets his own storyline. Regina Cassandra looks excitingly wicked with her numerous tattoos and piercings. Murali Sharma gets stuck with a crocodile in a toilet. Nani and Ravi Teja lend their voices for a fish and a tree respectively – and the fish and the tree make us laugh. No, I’m not high on anything! This is the film. Prashant Varma fools you into thinking we’re watching science fiction at one point (Matrix and Inception, for starters). Then we think we’re watching fantasy (the Murali Sharma part reminded me of Alice in Wonderland). Then suddenly it becomes a horror film (some cool CGI there). I was also wondering if this was some modern take on Hindu mythology, considering the names of the characters - Shiva, Parvathy, Radha, Krishna, Mira, Kali and so on. Awe is all of it and yet none of it. Yes, there’s a rational explanation for it all. Most of the film is set in closed spaces. Karthik Ghattamaneni has done some exceptional work with the cinematography. This is a film rich in visual cues and the camera constantly makes us question what we’re watching. The unpredictability is exciting, not just in the story but how it is told. This isn’t an anthology film and it’s not easy at all to give the viewer the impression of having met each of the numerous characters but Prashant pulls it off (quite like the rabbit pulling the man out of the hat visual he shows us at the beginning) with a great screenplay. The editing (Goutham Nerusu) is brilliant – the film follows a non-linear narrative and we jump from one chapter to another frequently. But it’s very smoothly done, you feel it’s all part of the same fabric (and it is). The background score (Mark K Robin) also helps to keep the film together – participating in creating the illusions on screen. Not every character works right when we’re watching them. The sequence between Srinivas Avasarala and Kaitlyn D’mello, for instance, is not as compelling as the rest. But it all comes together in the end and that’s what matters. If I had to quibble, I’d say it was unnecessary to have a character write in bold what the whole film was about in the end. Maybe the visuals for the opening credits could have been played again so the viewer could watch it with new eyes? The labelling in the end and the emphasis on the "message" seemed like an over-explanation but I guess it came from an anxiety to ensure that people got it and didn’t walk out of the theatre thinking Prashant Varma was completely bonkers. Awe might look inspired from Hollywood films in some parts but it’s very much its own film. Above all, this is one heck of a daring effort for a debut director – in the theatre I watched it in, the confused employees thought the screen was malfunctioning because of the black-outs in the latter half of the film and turned the lights on to figure out what the problem was. It only added to the loopy experience of watching Awe though. Disclaimer: This review was not paid for or commissioned by anyone associated with the film. Neither Tnm nor any of its reviewers have any sort of business relationship with the film's producers or any other members of its cast and crew.

TollywoodThe film centers around three women characters played by Kajal Aggarwal, Nithya Menen and Regina Cassandra.Digital NativeThe theatrical trailer of the upcoming Telugu movie Awe was released recently and has become the hot topic of discussion among film buffs. A heroine-centric film, it has Kajal Aggarwal, Nithya Menen and Regina Cassandra playing the main leads, and the story revolves around these ladies. Interestingly, two leading heroes of the Telugu film industry, Ravi Teja and Nani, have done the voiceover for this film. While one has lent voice for a fish, the other has done it for a tree, and the film is told from their perspective. It may be mentioned here that Awe is Nani’s first production venture. Watch the trailer here: Various reports have emerged about the characters played by the heroines in this flick, ranging from Nithya Menen playing a lesbian to Regina Cassandra essaying the role of a drug addict to Kajal Aggarwal playing a character with shades of grey. However, we will get clarity on their roles only after the film hits the silver screens on February 16. Regina’s look in the movie has already created a huge buzz. Speaking to Toi about her role, Regina had said that it took her team a lot of research to finalise her look. She said that her stylist Shanthi, and tattoo artistes Mo and Vijay had done an exemplary job to create the right look for her. Doing a role that has shades of grey, Regina will be seen sporting tattoos specially designed for the flick, including a tree and snake. Directed by Prasanth Varma, who is making his directorial debut with this movie, Awe is produced by actor Nani and Prashanti Tipimeni under the banner Wall Poster Cinema. Mark K Robin has composed the tunes for this flick with Karthik Ghattamaneni wielding the camera and Goutham Nerusu editing it. The star cast of Awe also includes Eesha Rebba, Srinivas Avasarala, Murali Sharma, Rohini, Priyadarshi Pullikonda, Hari Teja and Devadarshini. Nani’s last release McA did well at the box office and the star is gearing up for the release of his next project, Krishnarjuna Yudham, which is due for release on April 12. TollywoodSirish’s improved dialogue-delivery and body language make this his best Telugu film to date. Karthik KeramaluOkka Kshanam made me think about the importance of a minute. What could a minute do in a person’s life? In case of medical emergencies, every second counts. On the face of it, Okka Kshanam seems like a romance film that absorbs the qualities of a science fiction thriller. But, it’s actually the other way around. Director Vi Anand, who turned a supernatural tale on its head with a romantic twist (Ekkadiki Pothavu Chinnavada), is back with a film that takes a leaf out of parallel happenings. A couple of years ago, Selvaraghavan made a Tamil film named Irandaam Ulagam. It was a movie based on the concept of parallel universes. Everything about the film felt wrong. He took a wonderful subject and destroyed it. So, in every sense, Irandaam Ulagam was trashy. Now, Anand walks a similar path with his latest thriller. However, we aren’t transported to another universe here. We are, instead, taken to two women whose lives look like the copies of the same book (you can say different editions though). The initial portions where Jyotsna (Surbhi) peeps into the rooms of Swathi’s (Seerat Kapoor) apartment are directly borrowed from Alfred Hitchcock’s 1954 thriller Rear Window. Even in the Hollywood movie, the protagonist (played by James Stewart) is hurt and can’t walk around much. As a result, to cure boredom, he watches his neighbours through his window. Jyotsna does the same thing in the Telugu movie. She’s seen with a cast on her ankle in one of her first scenes. And, then, a couple of minutes later, when Jeeva (Allu Sirish) questions her about her routine, she introduces him to the world of people-watching via her balcony. Srinivas Avasarala, who usually stars as the comedy-guy, takes a U-turn to play a supporting role which has shades of various colours, in Okka Kshanam. His brooding looks are as good as his funny lines. The exchanges between Srinivas and Sirish are what make the film work to a large extent since this sets the tone for the second-hour-and-twenty-minutes. The character that actually sells the film to us is played by Jayaprakash. He appears as a professor who explains the theory behind parallel lives and gives us examples of Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy. By the time the movie reaches this point, we’ve already seen many interesting moments related to the two main screen couples – Sirish and Surbhi; Srinivas and Seerat. We’re waiting to see what’s going to happen next. Just like Sirish and Surbhi in the movie, we’re shifting in our seats. That’s when the film takes an insipid shape and shifts to action mode. Should the hero bash the goons and save the day? Is that what a “commercial movie” is all about? The action sequences of the last half-hour are not at all required. Still, Sirish’s improved dialogue-delivery and body language make this his best Telugu film to date. Surbhi and Seerat, too, put in convincing performances. Nevertheless, the best asset of Okka Kshanam is wrapped in its writing which leaves us a drab ending despite the great moments in the film.

Mohana Krishna Indraganti is mostly known for his 2008 film Ashta Chamma, which brought Nani and Srinivas Avasarala into the limelight. He has made several films since with varying degrees of success.
After almost a decade, he has come back with a film that burns the house down with laugh-a-minute jokes. Ami Thumi is a screwball comedy, a genre which doesn’t have a mighty presence in Telugu cinema. And it scores largely because of the fresh humor it brings to the table.

Film: "Chamak Challo"; Actors: Varun Sandesh, Sanchita Padukone, Catherine Tresa, Brahmaji, Srinivas Avasarala and Sayaji Shinde; Director: G. Neelakanta; Rating: * - suffers from sluggish narrative.
Filmmaker G. Neelakanta, a National award winner, who proved his mettle with offbeat films such as "Show" and "Missamma", disappoints big time in his latest Telugu romantic-drama titled "Chamak Challo". It is that kind of film, which will make you breathe a sigh of relief as the credits roll down.
The film had the potential to be an engaging love story, but even before it could leave an impact, the slackening narrative drains every last.
