Even though she’s widely considered to be the Queen of Dry Wit, sitting in the hotel room where we’re about to talk about her latest film Ingrid Goes West, there’s an unexpected innocence to Aubrey Plaza that makes her seem more like Sandy from Grease before the makeover. She’s wearing a dark baseball jacket over a lovely plaid dress in blush tones, and rather than welcoming me with a raised eyebrow, she smiles. I reach out my hand to her to say hello and apologize because it’s cold, she raises the eyebrow and explains, “I’m sorry too because my hand is warm.” And suddenly Sandy has given path to the sardonic Rizzo. Since her breakthrough in Parks & Recreation, Plaza has become one of the funniest people in the industry. Period. Few actors can accomplish so much using so little and making it seem so effortless,...

Amber Rose is the (naughty) gift that keeps giving. The model and SlutWalk founder spoke to Entertainment Weekly about her upcoming VH1 talk show, The Amber Rose Show, and revealed that the parting gifts she hopes to offer audience members will certainly be buzzworthy. "I'd love to give out dildos and throw them into the crowd," she said of how she'd like to emulate Oprah Winfrey's signature on-air giveaways. "That would be f---ing epic.""If you know me, you know I'm very sex positive," she explains, adding, "We have a full segment of sex and relationship questions that are very extreme.

After hitting the 200-episode mark of their hit show this month, the entire cast of The Big Bang Theory sat down with Conan O'Brien on Wednesday night, when it was revealed that Mayim Bialik and Johnny Galecki go way, way back. Before they played Amy and Leonard on the popular CBS comedy, Mayim and Johnny hit it big as '90s child stars on the family sitcom Blossom. It was there they shared their first onscreen kiss, which Conan happily goads them into re-creating. As they lock lips once again, the rest of the cast joins in on the action, with even Kaley Cuoco grabbing Jim Parsons for a smooch! Watch the video above, and then check out Mayim's hilarious speech at the Critics' Choice Awards.

Fallon's Mick Jagger impression is still on point. Of course, Jimmy wouldn't be Jimmy if he didn't ham it up, and he went Full Jagger and got the audience to join in.

Billy Eichner has spent years terrifying and rewarding pedestrians on "Billy on the Street," which premieres its fourth season October 8 on TruTV. The gonzo game show sees Eichner approaching strangers in New York City with a microphone, forcing them to play pop culture-related games, and giving them minuscule amounts of money for their trouble. Occasionally he brings along celebrity guests like Will Ferrell, Amy Poehler (his costar on "Parks and Recreation"), Paul Rudd, Neil Patrick Harris, Lena Dunham, and -- during one incredible moment -- Michelle Obama and Big Bird. It's a show where anything can happen, but it usually boils down to intense yelling. We caught up with Eichner to discuss bringing on Tina Fey for the fourth season premiere, the art of mocking celebrities on Twitter, and whether his character on the Hulu series "Difficult People," created by his costar and frequent collaborator Julie Klausner, is basically just him with a different name.

Welcome to the "Point Pleasant Police Department," this time starring Jimmy Fallon and Bill Hader as two spitting cops. This has to be our favorite recurring "Tonight Show" skit of all time, so watch it and make your Friday that much better.
Amy Schumer just got nominated for all the Emmy Awards ever, so she swung by "Late Night" to celebrate. By which we mean she talked about how she lives alone and is "super lonely." But like, in a funny way, because this is Amy Schumer.
Amy was also honored at the Time 100 Gala, and she spoke to Seth about how massively unimportant she is. Please, we beg to differ.

Bring me Louis Theroux! There are many moments during this disappointing depiction of Scientology where you may be crying out that very same plea.
Unlike the staggeringly good Amy, this documentary fails to muster any sense of objectivity towards the subject matter and frequently comes across as overly manipulative - the very trait it seeks to expose and demonise when it comes to Scientology. It's epitomised by the use of footage featuring key figures in the religion, including John Travolta, Tom Cruise and its founder L Ron Hubbard, which often dwells or freeze frames on the blazing eyes or wild laughter in a bid to make them look crazy. It devalues its objectives.
Such subjective treatment needs a stronger authorial presence in the film, beyond the occasional off-camera voice of the interviewer.

The following post mortem contains spoilers for the Season 2 finale of Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
O Captain, my captain… you got played.
Despite his best efforts to get the upper hand over rival Madeline Wuntch (Kyra Sedgwick) in Sunday’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine season finale, Captain Holt was forced to leave the precinct behind and take a desk job in the NYPD Public Relations Department.
Long story short: After Holt unearthed an incriminating letter that Wuntch once wrote, Wuntch fired back by threatening to make all the 99 cops miserable if Holt showed the letter to anyone— a risk the captain was not willing to take.

A review of tonight's "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" coming up just as soon I've lost the right to pee... Though "AC/DC" aired more than a month after the most recent episode, the two still feel linked to me in the ways that they've tried, to mixed success, to lay some emotional foundation underneath Jake's usual antics. In "Sabotage," he admitted that he can't sit back and let other people help him because of abandonment issues from his dad, but the moment was so brief that it felt more like a distraction than anything else. Here, he eventually tells Terry and Charles the real reason why he can't let go of any case: the one time he did it, the perp stayed free long enough to kill a few innocent people. Here, it didn't feel like the show was trying to skimp on the dramatic beat, but rather that it maybe didn't...

Yesterday, I published the first half of a long email exchange with “Parks and Recreation” co-creator Mike Schur looking at the origins and evolutions of some of the show’s most memorable supporting characters and running gags. That discussion concludes today with talk of DJ Roomba (who came very close to never being a part of our lives), Li’l Sebastian, Burt Macklin and a lot more. But we start out with the first — and last — appearance of Pawnee’s greatest mystery man. I know you had talked in the past about wanting to get Bill Murray to play the occasionally-mentioned but never-seen Mayor Gunderson. How did that actually come about? And if he had said no, was there a back-up Gunderson plan, or would he have simply remained a mystery forever? Mike Schur: We wanted to do an episode in the final season where someone died. We settled on Gunderson,...

A few weeks ago, while working on my review of the “Parks and Recreation” episode “Save Jj’s,” I asked people on Twitter for the name of one of the show’s weirder recurring characters, the creepy, heavily-tattooed owner of Pawnee’s pawn shop. My followers identified him as Herman Lerpiss — and, better, pointed out that there have been a lot of characters named Lerpiss in Pawnee over the years, often with far more elaborate biographies than has ever been suggested on the show itself. This made me realize that, while I have interviewed “Parks” co-creator Mike Schur many times over the years about major developments for Leslie, Ron, April, Andy, and the rest of the show’s main characters (you can read some of those interviews here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here , here and here), I’d barely scratched the surface of all the crazy background characters...

In a parallel universe, Jim O'Heir could have spent the last seven seasons on "Parks and Recreation" not as office punching bag Garry/Jerry/Larry/Terry/Garry, but as Ron Swanson. That's the role he auditioned for at the start, and while he didn't get it, Mike Schur and Greg Daniels liked his audition enough to hire him as a background character with the potential to do more, much like Stanley, Phyllis and Meredith on "The Office." It was a move that paid out well for all involved, and tonight's second episode — the last regular installment of "Parks" before next week's series finale — had a crowning moment of sorts for O'Heir's long-suffering alter ego. Chris Hemsworth, the reigning Sexiest Man Alive, earned his title Tuesday night on "The Tonight Show." For ensemble comedies to truly work, you need a group of incredibly talented people, not just one major star. That’s true for shows like Parks and Recreation, Community, New Girl, and, most recently, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, even though each of these four series has one standout performer that has risen above the rest. Parks has Nick Offerman as Ron Swanson, Community had Donald Glover (and still has Danny Pudi), New Girl‘s got Jake Johnson, who, in my eyes, has made Nick Miller one of the best characters currently on TV, but what about Brooklyn Nine-Nine? Who is that show’s star, or, if you will, its Mvp? As you can probably guess by the title of this article, I would say the breakout star of Brooklyn Nine-Nine has been Melissa Fumero, who plays straight-laced, rule-following Amy Santiago on the Fox comedy. While this may sound like blasphemy to many...

She's hosting "Saturday Night Live" this weekend, with One Direction as the musical guest, so hopefully Amy is better at hosting than playing drinking games. But her little "ack!" sound when things go wrong is pretty cute.

Jimmy Kimmel - and yes he really wore that red Christmas suit - welcomed Mel Brooks, who didn't want to sit in the chair next to the desk.

A quick review of tonight's "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" coming up just as soon as I do my kegels secretly... The title story of "Stakeout" is a pretty familiar one, both for this series (Jake suffers for refusing to listen to obviously wise advice) and for sitcoms in general (Jake and Charles' fight at times was very evocative of the first Leslie/Ann fight on "Parks and Rec"), but was extremely well told. Even in a crowded episode with two other stories and the usual structural problems forced on them by the network (see my lament at the end of last week's review), the episode slowly and meticulously plotted out the disintegration of the Peralta/Boyle friendship over their Chanukah-length stay in the tiny apartment, and particularly after they had the terrible idea of crafting the no-no list(*). Other than Charles' hero-worship of Jake, there's no real reason these two very different men should be friends,...

A review of tonight's "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" coming up just as soon as my diet consists of flavorless beige smoothies... Now that was more like it. After a couple of episodes with weak Peralta stories, "Road Trip" was a half-hour where all three plots clicked. The title story revisited the ongoing Jake and Amy tension without pushing too hard on it, and did it in a way I can't recall many shows doing. Usually in a "will they or won't they" situation, one partner pines after the other at a time, going back and forth due to circumstance, always being miserable in silence. Here, neither Jake nor Amy has the guile to stay quiet about how they feel for very long. So even if the larger framework is similar — with Amy dumping Teddy while Jake and Sophia are still together and reasonably happy — each party knows that the other one likes them,...

Ewan McGregor was on "The Tonight Show" with Jimmy Fallon on Monday night, and the impossibly handsome Scot played charades against Jimmy. Ewan's teammate was Jeff Tweedy, and Jimmy's partner -- for better or worse -- was Charles Barkley. Poor Charles Barkley. He and Jimmy were just not an ideal team -- unless they want to form a comedy team. Their fights were epic, though. "Four Words!!!!" Ewan was great, and a total class act -- even when Jimmy blew off his handshake. (The Force is strong with this one.) And did the "winners" really win? Discuss. Ewan also sat down with Jimmy to talk about his Broadway debut,...

I talked with Nick Offerman earlier this week and got the answer to the question I'm sure you're all wondering: A ukelele. What? You weren't clamoring for details on the latest carpentry projects from Hollywood's endlessly busy Renaissance Man? Personally, I'm always interested in Offerman's woodworking, because I know the value he puts in maintaining that pursuit and skill -- it's not just a hobby -- while following a schedule that would exhaust a lesser man. On Offerman's recent/current slate: He's completing work on the final season of "Parks and Recreation." He's touring the country with his one-man humor/lifestyle spectacle "Full Bush." He directed the marvelous and star-studded video for Tweedy's "Low Key." He's apparently co-producing a documentary about writer Wendell Berry. He appeared in the summer blockbuster "22 Jump Street" and probably has another half-dozen movies coming out soon. And this Sunday night (October 5), Offerman can be heard...

Emmy nominations will be announced on Thursday, July 10 by Mindy Kaling and Carson Daly. The pundits and critics have come to a consensus on the most likely nominees out of the numerous television shows on the air: a showdown between Breaking Bad and True Detective in Best Drama Series, Modern Family accruing a number of nominations at the cost of other comedy series. But what about the long shots? These performers and series would make deserving nominees, but for various reasons, are not expected to hear their names called. Here are five dream nominations in each of the major Comedy categories.
(Note: I only considered a nominee a long shot if it was actually submitted to that category. For example, I could not select Bob’s Burgers as Best Comedy Series, since it was submitted in the Animation categories instead. I also considered nominees only in the category they were submitted; for example,...

Stepping out for a good cause, Amy Adams brought her fiancé Darren Le Gallo to the 11th Annual John Varvatos Stuart House Benefit in Los Angeles on Sunday (April 13).
Punctuating the spread with her crimson coif and bright red blouse, the “Julie and Julia” dame smiled as she posed with designer John Varvatos and Joyce Varvatos while her actor beau looked on.
On Sunday night, Amy and her “American Hustle” cohort Jennifer Lawrence lost the Best Kiss trophy to Will Poulter, Emma Roberts and Jennifer Aniston at the 2014 MTV Movie Awards, but it wasn’t for a lack of enthusiasm from host Conan O’Brien.
Prior to the show he told MTV News, "I think the Best Kiss is the most prestigious award in the history of awards, and I'm including the Nobel peace prize. It honors human love. And what could be more important than love between two humans...

Sure, the MTV Movie Awards are this Sunday, but it’s not the only game in town: Over on HBO, the competition will be a brand-new episode of Game of Thrones. So how does host Conan O’Brien plan on combating the swords-and-sandals series? With both skin and spoilers, naturally.
“I’d like people to really see a lot of my body for the first time,” O’Brien tells EW of his plans as host. “What’s interesting is that the world has changed so much since when I first got into television; you have to be increasingly fearless. So,...

Amy Poehler and Nick Kroll took their relationship to the next level, vacationing in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, last week and getting seriously cute in the process. The couple left chilly La temperatures behind for a sunny beachside getaway, frolicking in the sand as they looked out at the ocean views on Wednesday and again on Sunday. At one point, Amy and Nick held hands as the tide washed over their feet. It got even cuter when they shared the same stance, placing their hands on their hips and looking toward the water. The hilarious duo's sweet trip just might fall near their first anniversary. According to reports, Amy and Nick started dating last April. Ever since, the couple have revealed glimpses of their dynamic. We got a high dose of their humor this award season, when Amy kissed Bono at the Golden Globes, prompting Nick to tell the singer to "watch his back.

They're two young women in their mid-twenties, living in New York and struggling to retain their dignity in a world of humiliating hook-ups and wageslave degradation. One of them, Abbi, works at a chic, faux-holistic gym cleaning toilets; the other, Ilana, sleeps through her crappy day job and wants nothing more from life than a dimebag and a date with Lil Wayne. Created by Upright Citizen Brigade alumni Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer, Comedy Central's Broad City takes the duo's scrappy Web series and supersizes it (sort of) for...

It was back in 1992 that Chicago-based artist Barry Crawford officially became known as 'Clay Guy,' turning his passion for Diy monster making from a hobby into a bonafide career. Sculpey Modeling Compound is Crawford's tool of choice, and though he started off by turning hunks of clay into silver screen icons like Batman and the Joker, his love for horror movies soon shined through, and nowadays he exclusively spends his time sculpting figures of genre icons both past and present.
A regular on the convention scene for many years now, Crawford's 'Clay Guy' sculptures continually impress, and he consistently churns out a brand new cavalcade of monsters and madmen every year. Though he has of course sculpted icons of fright like Freddy Krueger and Michael Myers, it is Crawford's figures of less appreciated villains that really make his work special, as he's brought to life a handful of characters...

As with Sunday night's "Lost" panel, I stepped in to do a little TV duty this week and attended tonight's "Parks and Recreation" panel at the PaleyFest. I'm not sure there's a group of characters that I like spending time with each week as much as the "Parks" group right now. Pawnee has taken its place right alongside Springfield as one of the most fully-realized comedy communities in TV history. Each year, we learn more about the people of Pawnee and we learn more about the main characters and we just plain dig deeper into the roiling cauldron of weird that is headed up by the great Leslie Knope, played by the also-great Amy Poehler. After a very spirited round of interviews on the red carpet, I headed upstairs where they were just starting to screen this Thursday's new episode, "Galentine's Day." After this, there are only six more episodes this year,...

Parenthood, Season 5, Episode 15, “Just Like at Home”
Written by Ian Deichtman & Kristin Rusk Robinson
Directed by Allison Liddi-Brown
Airs Thursdays at 10pm Est on NBC
This week, on Parenthood: Sydney and Victor spend their first weekend away, Drew talks to Amy, and siblings are the best
Parenthood has struggled this season with a handful of storylines, most notably the Julia and Joel friction and eventual trial separation. While this arc has felt contrived and frustratingly unexplored, from Joel’s perspective at the very least, the fallout from his decision two episodes ago has been fantastic, both in concept and execution. This week, Sydney and Victor head to Joel’s new apartment for their first weekend away from home, leaving Julia alone with her thoughts (and Orange is the New Black), and watching each set of characters react to this, and the way writers Ian Deichtman and Kristin Rusk Robinson...

Mary Berry has a lot to answer for. Ever since the surprise success of The Great British Bake Off, TV bosses have been desperately trying to find the next crafty past time that will capture the public's attention - from sewing to gardening. And so enters BBC Three's Hair, which takes the idea to the salon (or, at least, a specially converted warehouse in London.)
Luckily, Hair never feels like a cynical cash-in. Instead, it's a gently entertaining show in its own right. Sure, the Great British Bake Off's influence is there - three distinct rounds, including a freestyle challenge at the end - and Denise McAdam and Alain Pichon are presumably intended to be the Berry and Hollywood of the styling world. There's even a jovial, warm but slightly mocking host in the form of Steve Jones.
But while Hair's structure is recognisable, it's enjoyable enough that we can ignore that.

Sometimes we discover new TV shows through our own efforts, and sometimes they’re introduced to us by friends and family. Maybe we see a good review and decide to try it out and end up binge watching it on a weekend. Others we discover completely by accident and end up loving it: case in point, I just stumbled on Impractical Jokers through their guest appearance on Conan and I have been hooked ever since.
Sometimes TV shows are like sports teams: its a good show, but it feels one key ingredient away from awesomeness. Whether it’s a clear expiration date on its main premise (Prison Break, for example) or being tied down by decisions that network executives have no business making (the show creators usually know what’s best for the story, after all), or being bogged down by outside issues, some shows just slightly miss the...

Melissa McCarthy will do anything for a laugh.
Fans have known that since Bridesmaids (or, really, Gilmore Girls), and over the past few years she’s become a box-office star who is known for her intense, all-in characters that dominate both the screen and the discussion following the movie. So it was no surprise she’s been a reliably great SNL host the previous two times she hosted, and last night was no exception. If the episode as a whole felt underwhelming, it was only because expectations were sky-high — and laughs-wise, there was an emotional goodbye full of favorite friends to contend with as well.

It's on to greener pastures for Seth Meyers, as the current "Weekend Update" co-anchor and head writer of "Saturday Night Live" readies to depart his post after 13 years to take over "Late Night" on Feb. 24.
But before he does, the funnyman has one final show to see through on Saturday (Feb. 1). In anticipation of Meyers' "SNL" swan song, it's time to take a look back at some of the shining moments from his tenure on the long-running sketch show -- both onscreen and as a writer.
'Patriotic Briefs'
Meyers' first sketch appearance ever came in the show's second post-9/11 show, in a bit that gently mocked the intense displays of patriotism in the following days. The star is, without a doubt, Will Ferrell and his bare behind, but Meyers gets in a few pretty funny reaction shots.

This week's episode of The Big Bang Theory meditates on childhood and adulthood. Here's Juliette's review...
This review contains spoilers.
7.14 The Convention Conundrum
The central male characters in The Big Bang Theory have always seemed somewhat contradictory to outsiders. As Penny frequently observes, although they obviously maintain high level jobs at the university, they also engage in activities she associates with childhood – dressing up, playing with dolls and reading comic books. Obviously, those of us immersed in the geek community know that there’s nothing especially childish about cosplay and RPGs, action figures or graphic novels, but that is undeniably how they are perceived by the outside world. In this episode, the tension between a willingness to embrace the fun aspects of childhood and the long, slow, uncertain process of becoming an adult is explored to brilliant and often hilarious effect.

On Entourage, Vincent Chase would do his dumb-whore popcorn movies (like Aqua-Man) and feel humiliated, but the truth is that he rarely looked more hapless than when he was making one of his “integrity” projects — like his Pablo Escobar biopic, or the I’m-just-Vinnie-from-the-block indie Queens Boulevard, which wound up getting showcased at Sundance. If Entourage wasn’t about Vincent Chase but was about Kristen Stewart instead, her Escobar-meets-Queens Boulevard wince-worthy integrity dud might be Camp X-Ray, in which Stewart plays a guard at Guantanamo Bay who winds up uncovering the big lie of American anti-terrorist policy by making friends...

A constellation of nominees express humility, gratitude on the day of the Academy Award nominations.
Amanda Nevill, BFI CEO – “It’s fantastic to see the Academy putting the UK’s vibrant and thriving film industry firmly in the international spotlight. Britain’s world-leading studios and VFX facilities take centre stage in the spectacular Gravity, and the ability of our visionary directors to bring true stories to life with extraordinary effect is seen so vividly in Stephen Frears’ BFI and BBC Films-supported Philomena and Steve McQueen’s Film4-backed 12 Years A Slave.
“With Oscar recognition for on- and off-screen British talent across so many categories, these nominations help remind us that the UK’s film industry is something we can all be hugely proud of. All of these brilliant, talented people are winners in my eyes and I wish them all the luck in the world.”

Thursday (Jan. 9) was a seminal moment in the run of "Parks and Recreation," a night that saw the beloved NBC comedy celebrate its 100th episode.
It was an episode that saw Leslie (Amy Poehler) vacate her seat as Pawnee city council member, Ann (Rashida Jones) and Chris (Rob Lowe) learn the sex of their baby and Andy (Chris Pratt) return home from London. So, yeah, kind of a big night.
But when Zap2it caught up with "Parks" creator Mike Schur at the big 100th episode cake-cutting celebration back in October, we wanted to look to the future. So, we asked him where he imagined Leslie Knope would be should the series make it to 200 episodes.
"In episode 200? Oh my God," he responds with a laugh. "She would be the Secretary General of the United Nations and she'd be, like, in Uzbekistan, talking U.N. peace-keeping troops through how to...
