Phiroza Gorvalla
- Additional Crew
- Production Manager
Phiroza Patricia Gorvalla was born in Windhoek on November 23, 1987. Her mother, Sonya Felicia Gorvalla, a structural engineer, of Parsi/Persian descent and the granddaughter of World-renowned philanthropist, Dr Patricia Gorvalla and Phiroze Sha Gorvalla. She then moved to Cape Town, South Africa in 1994. And she has since become a South African citizen.
Phiroza was raised as an only child by her mother Sonya, until she remarried in 2001 to Theodore Dimitri Cummings, giving her 3 new step-brothers, Chad, Ryan and Kyle Cummings, with whom she is very close.
Phiroza (Rozie) attended Fairmont High School in Durbanville. She excelled in multiple sports, both solo and team. She also received various awards and national colours for several. Rozie fell in love with the classic walt disney animations from the young age of 7 and knew that animation was where her interests lay.
She then studied at City Varsity in Cape Town and received an Advanced Diploma in Animation. In 2008 she did an internship in her 3rd year, at what was then the largest Animation studio in South Africa, Clockwork Zoo studios, where she fell in love with the Production side of Animation. Within 3 weeks she had fallen perfectly into the job with her natural skills for organisation and planning. It is usually very rare for a creative person to also be naturally organised and be able to follow and even create efficient and structured systems. Rozie is however just such a unique person as to be completely balanced in these brain hemispheres, and also even excel at both logic and creativity. She is therefore perfectly suited to bridge the gap between Animators, Management and Clients with better understanding than most in her position by fully comprehending the full scope of everything that is required to make a studio run like a well-oiled machine.
Shortly after graduating Rozie was immediately hired by Clockwork Zoo, in February 2009, to be one of their Production Coordinators for several international shows, such as Caillou, and Florrie's Dragons. She worked there until the Company's unfortunate and sudden closure in March 2011. Shortly thereafter she freelanced as Production Manager at Sea Monster. She was again sought out and hired through her stellar work record and reputation to be the Production Manager at Bubblegum studios. She oversees teams of Animators, Storyboarders, Background artists and editors, while planning efficient budgets and schedules for various original (pilot) and international service (sub-contracted) shows. She has since received an Employee of the Year Award in 2015 at Bubblegum for her outstanding work.
