Ogawa, who were key players in the first season, won’t be returning. White’s portrayal of Xavier Thorpe and Ogawa’s role as Yoko Tanaka left notable impressions, and their absence raises questions about how the story will evolve without them. Finally, after what is starting to feel like forever, ‘Wednesday’ season 2 has officially started filming. But two of our beloved characters won’t be back, and no I don’t mean those who we watched die in the first season. Here’s all we know.
The Addams Family – Will Enroll In Nevermore Academy Ahead of Season 2
‘Wednesday’ season 2 may be a long time coming, but it’s coming big and bigger than anyone could ever expect.
Apart from Thandiwe Newton and Steve Buscemi becoming series regulars (Thandiwe will play Dr. Fairburn and Buscemi will play Barry Dort), the series has managed to add a host of interesting guest stars, and some of them, one way or another, have connections to different variations of ‘Addams Family’ over the years.

Back in 2022, the eight-episode feature following the mysterious adventures of Wednesday Addams in Nevermore Academy became Netflix’s most-watched original series ever, beating even the most hyped seasons of Stranger Things and Bridgerton.
Filming of the follow-up has just started in Ireland, and we can finally have a closer look at the second season’s cast changes. Luckily, Wednesday’s main star, the new scream queen Jenna Ortega, will reprise her already iconic role, despite her dropping out of another Netflix’s project, the animated series Jurassic World: Chaos Theory.
Wednesday Regulars: Who Returns in Season 2?
Firstly, we’ll have some characters elevated to the status of the show’s regulars. These include Catherine Zeta-Jones as Wednesday’s mother, Morticia, Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams, the father of the family, Isaac Ordonez as their son Pugsley, and also Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo as Ritchie Santiago, the deputy of the local police department.

After the runaway success of Netflix and Tim Burton’s Addams Family stand-alone series Wednesday starring Jenna Ortega, the streamer renewed it for second season in January 2023. That decision came less than three months after the eight-episode Season 1 premiered, eventually becoming the most-watched original series ever on the streamer ever with more than 252 million views to date, far surpassing Stranger Things‘ Season 4, Dahmer and Season 1 of Bridgerton on the all-time list.
Season 1 ending up scoring 12 Emmy nominations, including for Ortega in Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, becoming just the third Latina to ever be nominated in a leading actress category. The series won four Emmys, though Ortega lost out to Abbott Elementary‘s Quinta Brunson on Emmy night.

Cue "Goo Goo Muck" by The Cramps -- because it's time for "Wednesday" fans to get their groove back on. The second season of Netflix's immensely popular "Addams Family" spinoff series is now officially in production in Ireland after being postponed due to last year's extremely necessary dual actors and writers' strikes. Jenna Ortega will once again lead the way as the titular character, who is still her usual unsmiling and morbid self here. Well, except that, in a twist that left a lot of longtime "Addams Family" enthusiasts confused, season 1 transformed Wednesday into a cross between a Veronica Mars-style teen sleuth and a superhero, complete with heretofore unknown psychic powers.
While our own review wasn't keen on season 1, "Wednesday" broke out in a major way with the youths, not least of all thanks to characters like Wednesday's bubbly werewolf roommate -- and, should all the "Wenclair" shippers get their way,...

Wednesday was one of Netflix’s biggest hits last year, as the supernatural teen drama starring Jenna Ortega in the titular role became a global hit. Of course, a second season was ordered, and we know that the series is going to begin production later this year, probably eyeing a 2025 release date, although we still don’t have any precise confirmation about the release. After Wednesday comes Thursday unless you are a runaway streaming sensation, in which case “Wednesday” Season 2 has just kicked off.
The show, based on the legendary Chas. Addams characters and run for Netflix by Al Gough and Mike Millar-run show (with a creative assist from producer and director Tim Burton), is now shooting in Ireland and there have been some changes in the cast.

Superman director James Gunn made a video appearance during the Warner Bros panel for CinemaCon. While he didn’t have a lot to reveal just yet, he did tease that next year will be the “summer of Superman” as he revealed a closer look at the new logo, which seems reminiscent of the one from the Max Fleischer cartoons.
DC Studios co-ceo Peter Safran came out on the CinemaCon stage to tease the other Superman movie: Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story. The heart-wrenching documentary was acquired by Warner Bros. earlier this year for $15 million, and Safran revealed that it would be released in theaters this September. An exact date wasn’t specified, but the trailer screened at CinemaCon brought tears to more than a few in the audience.

“Wednesday’s child is full of woe.”
When Charles Addams was helping turn his amusing gothic New Yorker cartoons into a television series, the little girl needed a name, and he used a line from an old-time children’s poem. He’d been at the drawing board with these characters since 1938, although Gomez and Morticia’s daughter didn’t arrive until 1944. At different times, she was older or younger than her sibling, Pugsley.
Ever since her arrival, Wednesday has been a fixture, her pale skin, pig-tailed black hair, and solemn expression imprinted on future generations of Goth girls. From Lisa Loring to Christina Ricci, the live-action look has endured as the character has aged from her purported six years old in the original series pilot to 18 in the 2010 Broadway musical adaptation.

James Gunn is pulling out all the stops for his forthcoming Superman film by shooting the entire feature in IMAX. Unlike garden variety cameras and filming methods, the IMAX format brings audiences closer to the action with breathtaking picture quality, dynamic sound, epic scale, and fidelity. Want to feel the wind whooshing through your spit-curl as Superman soars through a Metropolis sky? IMAX will get you there and then some.
James Gunn revealed his intent to film Superman in IMAX quality today on Threads. In his post, Gunn shares footage from the Norwegian archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean, Svalbard. As the song “Speak Vernacular” by The Icons plays, the footage depicts gorgeous snowscapes, wildlife, and water that only Mr. Freeze would swim in. Season 2 of the hit Netflix Addams Family series Wednesday is expected to start filming in Ireland (season 1 was shot in Romania) sometime in late April, and during an interview with Vanity Fair the show’s star Jenna Ortega confirmed that she is about to get ready to return to the world of Wednesday Addams, revealing that she has been reading the season scripts recently – and promising that every episode of the new season will have something that will make it stand out and be memorable.
Vanity Fair asked Ortega about a previous quote where she said Wednesday season 2 will be more episodic, with each episode coming off like a standalone movie, and that it would lean further into horror. She responded, “I’ve just been reading scripts. By the time we actually start shooting, it will have been over two years since we wrapped. So internally, mentally, I’m like,...

The high-concept film — which was produced by LuckyChap’s Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara, with Indian Paintbrush’s Steven Rales — made its world premiere on Saturday night in a sold-out screening at the Eccles Theatre in Park City, Ut. The deal is for roughly $15 million. It is one of a handful of high-profile Sundance movies that are fielding offers from several bidders, including “Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story” and “Will & Harper,” a road trip documentary with Will Ferrell and his best friend, Harper Steele.
Amazon MGM is targeting a wide theatrical release for the film in the U.S. and Canada, with international territories still to be determined. Like all of its titles, the ultimate home will be Prime Video.

Sundance Buzz Title ‘My Old Ass’ Selling To Amazon MGM For $15M+ WW; Wide Theatrical Release Planned
Exclusive: In another big Sundance deal upwards of $15 million, Amazon MGM is in final negotiations to acquire the Sundance buzz title My Old Ass. This was a hotly contested deal that today had several suitors in the mix for a crowd-pleasing coming-of-age film that has garnered strong reviews and reaction since it launched in the Premieres category on January 20 at the Eccles Theatre.
Amazon MGM is targeting a wide theatrical release in the U.S. and Canada, and they’re working out the strategy for international. Pic will then move to Prime Video to stream globally. “Don’t it always seem to go that you don’t know what you’ve got ’til it’s gone?” –– Joni Mitchell
More or less a feature-length adaptation of those immortal lyrics, Megan Park’s My Old Ass takes a humorous, crowd-pleasing, and rather pat look at remembering to appreciate what you have in the moment. Anyone long out of high school has had the fantasy of wondering how your life would’ve turned out differently––if only you could have given some insight to your younger self at those crucial forks in the road. Imagining this scenario with a dash of time travel in its comedy-first approach, My Old Ass yearns to go down easy and succeeds at such, but one wishes it dug a bit deeper into its Pollyannaish script and aesthetic.

It’s always a welcome surprise to encounter a fresh face who’s also a natural screen presence, which is very much the case with the captivating Maisy Stella in My Old Ass. Not to undersell the newcomer’s individuality, but I kept getting a crunchy granola version of Clueless-era Alicia Silverstone, which is no faint praise. The fact that Stella is often bouncing off Aubrey Plaza in peerless sardonic form just sweetens the deal. Megan Park’s enjoyable second feature is a warm blend of comedy, romance and whimsical collapsed-time fantasy, albeit grounded in the protagonist’s real world.
Not since Toy Story 3 wielded its power to reduce grown-ass adults to puddles of tears has a movie been so in touch with the tender feelings associated with leaving home and saying a definitive goodbye to childhood, wistfully contemplating what we take with us and what we leave behind.

Elliott (Maisy Stella) is ready for her life to start. The last 18 years? That’s been killing time, practice, kid stuff, and as we meet the teen on her 18th birthday, mere weeks before she’s about to leave her cozy Canadian lakeside community for college in Toronto (read: the real world!), Elliott is hellbent on leaving that stuff behind. In Megan Park’s warm-hearted “My Old Ass,” Elliott is forced to grapple — most unexpectedly, most literally — with the past and the present and the future, and all the iterations of her that will populate those time periods.
First, there are the mushrooms. Elliott and her best pals Ruthie (Maddie Ziegler) and Ro (Kerrice Brooks) ingest the hallucinogens to celebrate that key birthday, an experience that sees Ruthie talking to animals and Ro dancing to music only she can hear… and Elliott? She finds herself. More correctly: her old self finds her.

Heading into the fest, Megan Park’s sophomore feature My Old Ass was one of the most anticipated of the fest. During its Saturday night premiere at the Eccles Theater, prime real estate as far as the fest goes, it did not disappoint the audience gathered, which gave the coming-of-age comedy a standing ovation.
My Old Ass stars Maisy Stella as Elliot, a teen in a small Canadian town who is in her final month of summer before college when she and her friends imbibe in some ill-begotten shrooms. It takes some time to fall in love with 18-year-old Elliott in “My Old Ass.” As played by Maisy Stella, she’s young and self-involved, so focused on heading off to college in the big city that she’s kind of a jerk to everyone around her (especially her small-town cranberry-farming family). Maybe young adult audiences won’t think so. Canadian actor-turned-auteur Megan Park’s sweetly insightful coming-of-age comedy is intended for them — whereas adults might not have so much patience for the way Stella’s impulsive character takes for granted what are arguably her best years.
Don’t worry, the movie is great, and Elliott eventually grows on you. Besides, her initially off-putting persona is kind of the point of Park’s older-and-wiser second feature, which follows the director’s terrific SXSW-winning debut “The Fallout.” Park plays a magic trick early in the film: Elliott and her besties (Maddie Ziegler...

The 40th Sundance Film Festival kicks off Thursday in snow-covered Park City, Utah. In the wake of twin strikes and an indie biz still recovering from the Covid pandemic, it’s difficult to read how hungry buyers are for films that are mostly light on starpower and an overtly commercial premise.
For instance, the buzziest title seems to be Love Me, because it stars Kristen Stewart and freshly minted Emmy-winning Beef star Steven Yeun. But it is a completely execution-dependent premise — long after humanity’s extinction, a buoy and a satellite meet online and fall in love. Two fine actors, but neither is a giant theatrical So there could be competition for this one, but buyers will be coming in cold and, as one veteran fest buyer said, “it’s like every other movie here. Let’s see what you got.”

Jenna Ortega is teasing a more terrifying Season 2 of “Wednesday.”
The Netflix series, which landed Ortega her first Emmy nomination, will begin filming in April. Ortega told E! News at the 2023 Emmys on Monday, January 15, that the new scripts lean more into the horror elements of the Tim Burton series. Ortega is also serving as an executive producer for the second season.
“I’ve received some scripts for the second season, and we’re definitely leaning into more horror,” Ortega said. “It’s really, really exciting because, all throughout the show, while Wednesday does need a little bit of an arc, she never really changes, and that’s the wonderful thing about her.
Ortega continued, “There’s really, really good one-liners, and I think everything’s bigger. It’s a lot more action-packed. Each episode will probably feel a little bit more like a movie, which is nice.”
