At the end of The GentlemenSeason 1, Eddie Horniman (Theo James) gives his literal partner in crime, Susie Glass (Kaya Scodelario), a closer look at his signet ring. It has his family motto on it. “Non sine periculo,” he reads. “Not without danger.” Those words could easily apply to Episode 8, which is filled with blood, backstabbing, andfront-stabbing.
In the first half of the episode, Susie’s father, underworld crime boss Bobby Glass (Ray Winstone), informs his daughter and Eddie that he’s selling the weed business. All they have to do is share the news with the proper interested parties — conniving American billionaire Uncle Stanley Johnston (Giancarlo Esposito), smug scammer Sticky Pete (Joshua McGuire), and volatile drug baroness Mercy (Martha Millan) — and obtain their offers. All bids must be over £150 million and arrive by the end of the week via pigeon.

In solidarity with striking SAG-AFTRA members, Kristin Scott Thomas was a no-show at the Toronto International Film Festival world premiere of her directorial debut, “North Star.” Finola Dwyer, one of its two producers, said during her own introduction that the film is loosely autobiographical for the actress-turned-filmmaker, who also shares screenwriting credit with John Micklethwait.
While it’s known Scott Thomas’s mother had two husbands, both of whom were Navy flyers who died while on duty, it’s a bit of a shame that Scott Thomas wasn’t on hand to clarify exactly to what extent the story is based on her real family and how much artistic license she took.
The story revolves around three sisters living disparate lives reuniting for the wedding of their twice-widowed mother, Diana, played by Scott Thomas herself. Katherine (Scarlett Johansson) has followed in her late father’s footsteps to become a captain in the Royal Navy.

The first look image from My Mother’s Wedding, the directorial debut from Kristin Scott Thomas, has been released. The film stars Scarlett Johansson, Sienna Miller, and Emily Beecham.
Principle photography on the film — which Scott Thomas co-wrote with John Micklethwait — has been completed. The film follows the story of three sisters who return to their childhood home for the third wedding of their twice-widowed mother, Diana. The three daughters now lead very different lives: Georgina, a palliative nurse; Victoria, a Hollywood star; and Katherine, a captain in the Royal Navy. Over the weekend, the family gathers to celebrate a new marriage, but mother and daughters alike are forced to revisit the past and confront the future, with help from a colorful group of unexpected wedding guests.
The cast includes Academy award nominee Scarlett Johansson, BAFTA award nominee Sienna Miller, and Cannes Best Actress winner Emily Beecham, who play the sisters. Academy award nominee and BAFTA award-winner Scott Thomas plays Diana Frost, their mother.
This marks the third time Scott Thomas and Johansson have played mother and daughter since 1998’s The Horse Whisperer.
“I have wanted to direct for a long time and it was thrilling to create this fictional family using my own childhood memories as a springboard,” said Kristin Scott Thomas. “Directing and acting with such talented actresses and reuniting with Scarlett Johansson has been exhilarating.”
The cast is filled out by BAFTA award nominee, Freida Pinto, Sindhu Vee, Joshua McGuire, Mark Stanley, Thibault de Montalembert and Samson Kayo.
Additional credits include director of photography Yves Belanger, BAFTA award-winning Production Designer Andrew McAlpine, Casting Director Lucy Bevan, Editor Gary Dollner, Costume Designer Sinead Kidao, and Academy award nominated Hair and Make-Up Designer Daniel Phillips.
CAA Media Finance, which arranged financing for the film, represents domestic rights.

Mate, mate. You’re not going to believe this one mate. Really mate. Andrew Gaynord, Tom Parker and Tom Stourton’s debut feature is one that’s going to stay with you. Seriously, mate. Stourton plays Pete, recently returned from doing something unspeakably worthy and charitable with children abroad, and invited to celebrate his birthday with his posh university friends in someone’s parents’ fancy country pile, and oh mate, you’re not going to believe what happens. Because as well as likeable couple George and Fig (Joshua McGuire and Georgina Campbell), cripplingly posh Archie (Graham Dickson) and delicate Claire (Antonia Clarke) there’s also Harry (Dustin Demri-Burns), a local yokel who the gang have adopted for the weekend for a laugh, and, oh mate, it’s absolutely hilair.

Words that should give any wife pause: “It was just…sex.” When has that ever been true in the history of TV? In Netflix‘s Anatomy of a Scandal, a slick but shallow six-part adaptation of Sarah Vaughan’s novel, co-creator David E. Kelley spins a less murderous version of his HBO hit The Undoing. Once again, a glamorous spouse slowly begins to regret standing by her very handsome disgraced man. If only she’d known? How could she not? (Credit: Netflix) Sophie Whitehouse’s (Sienna Miller) world of privilege begins to unravel when her powerful Parliament politician husband, James (a sheepish Rupert Friend), father to their two adorable children, confesses to a five-month affair with a hopelessly devoted aide. Soon another polished shoe drops after his former lover accuses him of violent rape — in their workplace elevator, no less. “The road is paved in #MeToo landmines,” warns communications chief...

Pete (Tom Stourton) hasn’t seen his university mates in years. Ten years to be exact. It happens. Life happens. We reach adulthood, mature, and set goals for ourselves that the people who were closest to us during that formidable period simply cannot follow—their own ambitions lie upon different forks in the road. So resentment shouldn’t factor in. Nor should jealousy. Yet Pete can’t help wondering about both. A little voice in the back of his head wonders if a decade was too long to pretend things could pick up where they left off. Would their very posh upbringing think he abandoned them to work with refugees? Do they think he thinks he’s better than them for doing it? What if he thinks that?

"Everyone's being mean, and I don't know what's going on..." Super Ltd has revealed an official trailer for a UK horror comedy film titled All My Friends Hate Me, marking the feature debut of director Andrew Gaynord. This premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival last year, and stopped by the London Film Festival in the fall. Pete is cautiously excited about reuniting with his college crew for a birthday weekend. But, one by one, his friends slowly turn against him. Is he being punished, or is he paranoid, or is he part of some sick joke? From co-writers Tom Stourton and Tom Palmer comes this dark comedy-horror mash-up for anyone who's ever experienced social anxiety and lived to tell about it. Terrifying! Tom Stourton stars along with Georgina Campbell, Joshua McGuire, Antonia Clarke, Charly Clive, Kieran Hodgson, Dustin Demri-Burns, Christopher Fairbank, and Graham Dickson. This looks utterly horrifying - have fun.

Where to Watch ‘Lovesick’: Netflix (after its first season originally aired on Channel 4 in the UK)
One of the most satisfying feelings from a TV rewatch is realizing how much of what makes a show great is right there at the start. While the show that became “Lovesick” definitely evolved over its three seasons, the first episode carries a lot of its effortless charm.
Up top, there’s the deceptively simple premise: After finding out he has an Sti, Dylan (Johnny Flynn) now faces the prospect of reaching out to all the women he’s slept with. Each episode uses one of Dylan’s past encounters (whether circumstantial one-night stands or the source of more long-term heartbreak) as a way to show his shared adventures with best mates Evie (Antonia Thomas) and Luke (Daniel Ings).

Imagine the protagonist of a Richard Curtis film woke up on the morning of whichever wedding or funeral they were to attend, suddenly cursed with self-awareness. The resulting movie, a comedy that elicits such bone-deep cringe it’s indistinguishable from horror, might look a lot like Andrew Gaynord’s “All My Friends Hate Me,” a ferociously witty, deeply British evisceration of upper-class Millennial anxiety, dedicated to the truism that if you can’t spot the asshole in any group of five or more people, the asshole is you.

After a Covid-induced hiatus, Tribeca Festival returns with in-person premieres and an exciting mix of studio productions and low-fi indies. The festival has ditched the word “film” from its title in order to emphasize the fact that Tribeca now encompasses podcasting, gaming, TV and so much more. But who are they kidding? For most New Yorkers, it’s all about the movies. With that in mind, here are 11 films that should be on every festival-goer’s must-see list.
12 Mighty Orphans
Director: Ty Roberts
Cast: Luke Wilson, Vinessa Shaw, Martin Sheen, Robert Duvall, Wayne Knight, Jake Austin Walker
Meet your next uplifting sports drama. In the tradition of “Rudy” or “Hoosiers” comes “12 Mighty Orphans,” the story of the Mighty Mites, the football team of a Fort Worth orphanage who became unlikely Texas state championship contenders. In the process, their plucky come-from-nowhere run inspired a country reeling from the Great Depression.

"Your mission – is to steal it." Disney has released one more official trailer for the long-awaited Artemis Fowl movie, an epic adaptation of the fantasy book series by Eoin Colfer. This trailer confirms that the movie will be available streaming on Disney+ on June 12th, skipping theaters entirely (due to the pandemic shutdown). The story follows a 12-year-old mastermind named Artemis Fowl, who discovers a world below ground of armed and dangerous--and extremely high-tech--fairies. He kidnaps one of them, Holly Short, and holds her for ransom in an effort to restore his family's fortune and find his father. Ferdia Shaw stars as Artemis, and the full cast includes Lara McDonnell as Captain Holly Short, Judi Dench, Josh Gad, Nonso Anozie, Tamara Smart, Miranda Raison, Joshua McGuire, and Hong Chau. This looks like it might be an entertaining adventure, probably best they're dropping it online right away. Family-time fun. Here's the...

This looks super cool! Maybe a few years late, but I like all the footage in this so far. And I really dig the use of Radiohead in this teaser trailer, fits just right. "Love is a lesson learnt the hard way." Film4 in the UK has debuted an official trailer for an indie coming-of-age comedy titled Old Boys, from newcomer director Toby MacDonald. Old Boys stars the talented Alex Lawther as well as Pauline Etienne, Jonah Hauer-King, Joshua McGuire, Denis Menochet, and Nicholas Rowe. This looks amusing and cute, perhaps worth a watch sometime. Here's the first official UK trailer for Toby MacDonald's Old Boys, direct from YouTube (via Tmb): In this school-set re-working of Edmond Rostand's play Cyrano de Bergerac, an awkward but imaginative pupil helps...

“Finding love is all heartbreak, disappointment, and misery… until it isn’t,” says Dylan (Johnny Flynn), the inept romantic at the center of “Lovesick” in the opening scene of Season 3. He makes this statement while giving advice to his lovelorn friend Luke (Daniel Ings), and the implication is that Dylan has finally cracked the code, found the cure, and is no longer miserable. He’s found love.
At this point, we’re going to take a page from the “Lovesick” handbook of storytelling and backtrack. The Netflix Britcom began with Dylan learning he has chlamydia, and therefore needing to tell all of his past sex partners to get themselves checked out as well. This device allowed viewers to learn about Dylan’s dating history through various flashbacks. What’s emerged from these snapshots in time is the distinct understanding that Dylan and his friend Evie (Antonia Thomas) are madly in love with each other,...

It's at this time of year that people start to glance in the rearview mirror and ruminate on what's happened over the course of the past twelve months. Focusing specifically on cinema, it's time to think on the Film Year 2014 and make some lists. Movie fans need to decide which blu-rays they want as Christmas presents so they can write it down in a list to post to Santa.

Mike Leigh's first period biopic in 15 years is a feat of confidence, with an outstanding performance from Spall as the Romantic landscape artist
Full coverage: Cannes 2014
What a glorious film this is, richly and immediately enjoyable, hitting its satisfying stride straight away. It's funny and visually immaculate; it combines domestic intimacy with an epic sweep and has a lyrical, mysterious quality that perfumes every scene, whether tragic or comic.
Mike Leigh has made a period biographical drama before: Topsy-Turvy (1999), about the rewarding but tense association of Gilbert and Sullivan and their own rewarding but tense association with the theatre-going public. Now he made another utterly confident excursion into the past and into the occult arcana of Englishness and Victoriana: a study of the final years of the painter Jmw Turner, played with relish and sympathy by Timothy Spall.

You, Me & Them, Series 1
Written and created by Steve Turner
Available streaming on Acorn.TV
A sitcom has two primary jobs in terms of becoming a success: to build a world viewers will want to continue spending time in, and to make them laugh. The former is perhaps the more daunting task, but both are nebulous, hard to measure, and difficult to figure out in advance. British television is often vaunted as superior to its American counterpart, but if American TV has one advantage, it is that the increased episode orders on network television give American sitcoms time to find themselves in their first season. You, Me & Them, the new sitcom from writer/creator Steve Turner, does a decent job at building out a world and cast of characters worth spending time with, but in its six-episode first season, it all too often forgets to be funny.
