The Electronic Entertainment Expo, once the biggest event in the video game calendar, has officially run out of lives, as organisers Esa pull the plug on the convention.
Once upon a time, the Electronic Entertainment Expo (widely referred to as E3) was the place to be for video game journalists, publishers and developers alike.
Founded in 1995, the trade show was first established as an industry-specific replacement for the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. An invite-only affair which steadily developed an atmosphere closer to a convention than a suite of business announcements, the event has struggled in recent years to return to its former glory as developers and publishers have started their own gaming reveal events on their own terms.

In 2011, the Tribeca Film Festival’s unprecedented decision to include a video game as part of the official selection may have seemed like nothing more than a glorified bit of cross-promotion between a for-profit festival and an elite publisher with a very expensive new blockbuster to sell. A detective mystery in the tradition of classic movies like “The Maltese Falcon” and “The Big Sleep,” Rockstar Games’ “L.A. Noire” certainly seemed like a natural way of bridging the gap between two different mediums that have been on a collision course for a long time — according to Rockstar’s Dan Houser, Tribeca felt that it “was something new and different that would appeal to fans of cinematic storytelling” — but the choice also reflected the patronizing idea that video games should aspire to be interactive films.
In the years that followed, however, it gradually became clear that Tribeca had a more expansive...

It turns out that Reggie Fils-Aime may have saved us from an awful Nintendo rebrand.
Reggie Fils-Aime, who formerly served as the president and CEO for Nintendo of America, has revealed an interesting inside secret about his time at the much-loved video game company. As it turns out, he may have saved us from a subpar rebrand of the Nintendo logo.
Fils-Aime, who stepped down from his role at Nintendo in April 2019, has recently appeared as a guest on the Present Value Podcast. And as VG247 was first to report to the wider internet, Fils-Aime opened up during the chat about some logo-based discussions that he had to shut down at Nintendo.
“When I joined Nintendo, there was a sense of almost shame that Nintendo appealed to young consumers," Fils-Aime recalls, "and the marketing team at Nintendo of America started doing things with the logo - that...

Reggie Fils-Aime, beloved president of Nintendo of America, is stepping away from the company.
Nintendo Of America President Reggie Fils-Aime is retiring according to a press release sent by Nintendo. Information is still coming in on this shocking announcement, but Nintendo has confirmed that Fils-Aime will retire on April 15 and will be replaced by the aptly named Doug Bowser who currently serves as Nintendo's Head of Sales and Marketing.
This is a truly surprising turn of events. Reggie Fils-Aimé joined Nintendo in 2003 as the company's Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing. In 2006, he had the honor of becoming the first American to hold the office of President and Chief Operating Officer of Nintendo of America.
However, most people probably remember him best from the time he took the stage at Nintendo's E3 2004 conference and said "My name is Reggie. I'm about kickin' ass, I'm about takin' names,...

Is Nintendo working on an N64 Classic? Will they make N64 games available for the Nintendo Switch?
Nintendo of America Reggie Fils-Aime recently sat down with Kotaku to talk about a variety of topics. Among the many interesting things he shared is a temporary answer to the question: "Will we get a Nintendo 64 Classic?"
“We were clear when we did the first two Classic series that, for us, these were limited time opportunities that were a way for us as a business to bridge from the conclusion of Wii U as a hardware system to the launch of Nintendo Switch,” said Fils-Aime. "So while consumers may have been anticipating something, we view these as limited time opportunities. We’ve also now been very clear that as the consumer looks forward to engaging with our classic content that is going to happen more and more with the subscription service.

Despite showing off at last year's E3, the upcoming Yoshi's World game for the Switch was conspicuously absent from Nintendo's presentation this year. Many expected to get another look at the game, which continues the Wooly World art style (a great game by the way) and a firm release date; but it never showed.

The new “Smash Bros.” game will include every single character to ever appear in the fighting series during its nearly two-decade run, Nintendo announced Tuesday during its E3 Direct. Dubbed “Smash Bros. Ultimate,” it comes to Nintendo Switch December 7.
In addition to old favorites, Nintendo is adding some new fighters to the roster, including Ridley from the “Metroid” franchise and “Splatoon’s” Inkling. The game will support a variety of controller options, Nintendo said, including Gamecube controllers (original or newly designed), Joy-Cons, or the Switch Pro controller. All current “Smash Bros.” amiibo figures are compatible with “Ultimate,” and fighter amiibos from other series will also be supported.

Some believe that the dedicated game console is an increasing hindrance to the growth of the gaming population and the works created for them. And leading voices in the game industry are starting to acknowledge that in some way too, thanks in part to the sudden rocketing success of full-blown, major game releases on smartphones and tablets and innovations in streaming technology.
Microsoft recently told Variety that gaming is becoming increasingly about having your favorite games available on any device you own. Ubisoft co-founder and CEO Yves Guillemot said he believes game consoles only have one more generation left in them before they fade away to be replaced completely by the ability to stream games to a multitude of platform-agnostic devices.
“I think we will see another generation, but there is a good chance that step-by-step we will see less and less hardware,” Guillemot said. “With time, I think streaming...

Hulu has finally arrived on Nintendo Switch, but Nintendo didn't announce it in the usual Nintendo way.
There was no Nintendo Direct. No press release. Not even a Hulu-themed amiibo to announce the release of Nintendo Switch's first streaming service in the Us, Hulu! However, if you hop into the Nintendo Shop app on your Switch, the familiar green hue of Hulu will be there, slapped with a big New sign on it.
Finally, all your favorite shows on Hulu are available on your mobile console to enjoy wherever you like! With this being such an auspicious occasion, why wouldn't Nintendo or Hulu want to announce this in their usual flare?
While we can't speculate, we can look to the words of Nintendo of America's COO Reggie Fils-Aime when he was asked about streaming services in March, around the time the Switch came out.

According to Nintendo, the recent update enabled the GameCube controller to be supported on Switch, claiming it to be a happy accident rather than intentional.
The latest 4.0.0 update gave the Wii U GameCube adapter a full controller support for the Switch, however, Nintendo of America’s president, Reggie Fils-Aime explained in an interview with Kotaku that:
“In our latest system software update, it enables third-party peripherals to work on Nintendo Switch. As a result, the peripheral for Wii U that allows it to attach GameCube controllers also works [...] I think it’s fair to say [...] that that peripheral working was as much a surprise to us as it was to consumers.”

When it comes to the launch of the Nintendo Switch and the number of consoles that were available at launch, Reggie Fils-Aime believes Nintendo "Dramatically Over-Delievered" to consumers. Fils-Aime says that professional analysts in the field believed the console would sell under 2 million units in its first year, so the company responded appropriately and made 2.8 million consoles available at launch.
As we all know how the story goes, those were gone by the end of the first month.
So now Nintendo, whose last console sold 13.5 million units over its lifetime (the Nintendo Switch will have sold over half that number by the end of the first year according to analysts now), is being berated by consumers for underselling the console to increase demand. While I know its frustrating not to have the console you want right now, hopefully, these words from Reggie will offer people a bit of a reality check.

Nintendo's desire to manufacture more Switch units is compromised by supply issues, its boss reveals...
It's not easy to find a Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo wants you to know that they can't guarantee it's going to get any easier.

In an interview with the Financial Times, Reggie Fils-Aime addressed the issues preventing Nintendo from just making more Nintendo Switch units. According to Fils-Aime, the problem with manufacturing more consoles cannot be traced to a shortage of any single component.
"There is not one choke point, there are multiple choke points," said Fils-Aime regarding the rumour that a company called Alps Electric can't generate enough parts needed to manufacture Joy-Con controllers. "I won't go into any more detail but it's not just one component. I'm going to make millions of these units to flow into the marketplace.

Reggie Fils Aime Says Snes Classic Will Be Plentiful Enough That No One Should Pay A Scalper For One
In the boldest statement he's made since the Snes Classic was announced, Reggie Fils-Aime says the console will be stocked so frequently that consumers should not buy from third party scalpers. Fils Aime's exact words can be found below:
“I would strongly urge you not to over-bid on an Snes Classic on any of the auction sites,”
Fils-Aime continued in saying that production of the console has been increased dramatically, and indicated that this situation would not be similar to the launch of the Nes Classic. The difference, he said, was that Nintendo based their numbers for the Nes Classic on how poorly past retro consoles have sold in the international market. That mistake, presumably, won't be made again and many more people will be able to get an Snes Classic.
Does that mean everyone will get a Snes Classic? That's likely a bit of a stretch, but that's just...

Nintendo of America's leading man Reggie Fils-Aime is always one to share the big N's opinion on modern trends of gaming, and it sounds like they won't be getting into Vr anytime soon. Fils-Aime spoke recently at Variety's Entertainment & Technology Summit, and mentioned that the platform's current problem is that it doesn't have a lot of "fun experiences."
That's not too surprising of a stance to take, as the current Vr market is pretty sparse in terms of gaming options, and not too many gaming companies (outside of Bethesda) are putting in work on developing for it. Basically one shouldn't be expecting anything Vr from Nintendo anytime soon because they don't seem to be interested.
On the subject of Nintendo Switch, Fils-Aime seems confident the company is going to hit their goal of 10 million units before the end of the fiscal year and says they've prepared to ramp up...

At Nintendo’s E3 2017 presentation, the Japanese giant showed a brief clip announcing Metroid Prime 4 (Tbc) is in development for the Nintendo Switch. As to be expected, Nintendo fans rejoiced worldwide.
Previously, Nintendo had been quiet on the Metroid front, refusing to give away even the slightest of detail. With the E3 reveal, Nintendo of America President, Reggie Fils-Aime, told Polygon that, “we wanted to make it clear that Metroid is an important franchise for us.”
Fils-Aime went on to add: “As we think about how to satisfy the needs to the Metroid fans, we needed to make sure they understood there was a great console experience coming, in addition to Metroid: Samus Returns (2017) coming on Nintendo 3Ds.”
At the Nintendo Treehouse after the presentation, Nintendo went on to announce that the Nintendo 3Ds will receive a side-scrolling platformer, Metroid: Samus Returns. The decision not to talk about Metroid: Samus...

Once again Nintendo won't have a physical press conference, but that won't stop them from making an impact at E3 2017! Come inside to learn about their plans for the 3-day expo!
It has become a tradition for Nintendo to forego the traditional E3 press conference, in favor of using their Direct way of releasing new information. 2017 won't be any different as the long-standing video game company will once again be releasing their Nintendo Spotlight video, before the doors open, on June 13 at 9am Pt/12pm Et. In what can only be described as a totally spontaneous announcement, Nintendo has revealed that a new batch of hardware is due to join the DS family this summer. The New Nintendo 2Ds Xl will arrive July 28 in both Europe and North America for the suggested retail price of $149.99 Usd/$199.99 Cad. Assuming conversion rates don’t get out of control in other regions, that makes this newest iteration of the handheld console universally cheaper than its existing 3Ds counterpart.
Those picking up the sleek new device will, of course, be forfeiting the ability to play games in 3D, but if you’re not interested in a feature that arguably borders on gimmicky, this newest bit of kit is likely to be the definitive version. Unlike the existing 2Ds range, which has traditionally been marketed as an entry-level budget option for those not willing to fork out $200+ for a 3Ds Xl,...

Despite concerns regarding Nintendo Switch‘s relatively sparse launch line-up and its lack of power in comparison to its contemporaries having been raised numerous times prior to launch, it appears as if neither potential roadblock has sullied its chances at success, as the Big N’s latest hardware has gotten off to an excellent start in the Us.
As part of an interview with New York Times reporter Nick Wingfield, Nintendo of America head Reggie Fils-Aime revealed that the first 2-day sales of the Switch in the Americas eclipsed any other system Nintendo has ever released, meaning that it even outpaced the Wii, one of the most successful systems ever made.
2. Fri-Sat sales for Nintendo Switch exceeded first 2-day sales in Americas for any system in Nintendo history. Next biggest was Wii.

Nintendo‘s prominence in the gaming industry over the past decade has been a roller coaster ride; rising to the highest of peaks and dipping to an abysmal trough. Yet through it all, Nintendo has prided itself on being a separate facet – far removed from the Microsoft/Sony console war, once described as a “red ocean” by its CEO, Reggie Fils-Aime. Seeking its own corner of the market, brand power has allowed Nintendo free reign to engage and disengage with the video game industry at its choosing. They just don’t play ball in the same way that Sony and Microsoft do – where other companies pander to suitability, Nintendo typically ignores the mainstream.
The Wii’s success arguably founded this strategy, convincing Nintendo it had found its feet among an all-new slice of the gaming industry. And they’ve never quite let go of that, even after Wii U’s...

If October’s Switch reveal sent excitement through the roof, last week’s Nintendo Switch presentation had many gamers tempering their expectations ahead of the hardware’s release in early March.

3Ds owners shouldn’t be concerned over the longevity and future of the dedicated handheld console going forward, says Nintendo. In a recent interview with Wired, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime told the site that the 3Ds still has “a long life in front of it,” amid fears that it could be left by the wayside due to the very nature of the upcoming Switch. Ever since the unveiling of the Wii U’s successor last year, uncertainty over the 3Ds’ place in the market has started to bubble to the surface, with many left pondering if the home console/handheld hybrid had been primed to supersede both devices.
Those whispers were largely put to rest following last year’s Switch reveal, however, when Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima told Bloomberg that no such thing was happening and that the Switch wouldn’t “cannibalize” sales of the 3Ds. In fact,...

Wait, that was it? Yep, I’ve suddenly been reminded why Nintendo are not the tour de force of the video gaming industry that they once were. Mr. Tatsumi Kishimi might have stated, “I hope that we’ve done enough to earn your support,” but the answer is a firm no, not at all. Nintendo’s stocks have dropped by 5% already and similarly, my interest in its new console, the Nintendo Switch, has certainly dwindled.
Before we start unpacking everything, watching the conference I couldn’t help but recall the Wii U’s ill-fated debut at E3, back in 2014. I remember being perplexed that President of Nintendo of America, Reggie Fils-Aime, was spending so much time trying to convince the audience that the console’s name was clever; justifying the efforts of Nintendo’s marketing. In hindsight, it all felt very desperate and marked a slippery slope for the Wii’s second iteration.

This morning, our patience has finally paid off as Nintendo has finally revealed their next major console, the Nintendo Switch! Check out the video reveal, below!
After months of waiting, pining, and reading through 19 pages of a Nintendo patent (that actually happened), Nintendo has finally pulled the cover off their next major console, and they're calling it the Nintendo Switch. Rumored to be the first mobile console, Nintendo answered those rumors with the introduction trailer, released.
Many believed Nintendo would reveal the Nx, back in June, during E3 2016. However, with the competition of Microsoft and Sony gearing up for their 4K console battle, Nintendo played it smart and bided their time. Instead, they showed off their game-changing title, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Winner of the Cinelinx Best of E3 2016 Award).

Perhaps its failure was exaggerated by the Wii’s runaway success – upwards of 101 million units sold at the time of writing – but it’s no secret that the Wii U will go down in the history books as a disappointing misfire.
Doomed early on by mixed marketing and an alarming lack of third-party support, Nintendo has been candid in acknowledging the Wii U’s shortcomings – shortcomings that the Big N will actively work to avoid with the launch of the Nintendo Nx in 2017.
That’s according to Reggie Fils-Aime, President of Nintendo of America, who spoke with AListDaily about what the Japanese giant can learn from past mistakes when prepping its new hardware for release next year.
“Every time we launch a new platform, every time we launch a critical new game, we always learn. We always do our breakdown of what worked, what didn’t, and certainly we’ve done that with Wii U.

This morning Nintendo revealed the return of a classic console, with the Mini-nes. The new device plugs directly into your TV's via Hdmi and comes bundled with 30 classic games for fans to enjoy in an all new way. Come inside to learn more!
I can't begin to tell you how excited I am about this. I'm a huge retro gaming fan, and my Wii U/3Ds is currently filled with classic titles so I can play them over and over again. So imagine my surprise, and delight, this morning at Nintendo's announcement of the Mini-nes. It's a plug-in-play system, but comes with an Hdmi cable so you can play the classic games (full list of those included below) on your new televisions without any problem.
Even better if comes with an updated version of the classic controller, which can also connect to Wii remote and be sued for playing your Virtual Console Nes games!
