YouTube has been offering ads on Shorts for one year, and the results have been encouraging thus far. In a blog post, YouTube Director of Product Management for Creator Monetization Thomas Kim revealed that “more than 25%” of the creators in the YouTube Partner Program are currently earning revenue from their Shorts.
Revenue sharing came to Shorts in February 2023, and a revamped Partner Program came with it. YouTube gave creators new ways to qualify for monetization by inviting in channels with at least 1,000 subscribers and 10 million Shorts viewers over 90 days.
Some creators saw quick results. Last March, special effects guru Zach King reported Shorts revenue that came at better rates than what he received on TikTok. The earnings have since become more widespread. Kim’s blog post revealed that 80% of the creators who qualified for the Partner Program via Shorts have also utilized at least one of YouTube’s other revenue streams.

Thanks to the influencer marketing boom, creators with large followings on platforms like YouTube and TikTok are getting larger roles during Super Bowl season. In the weeks leading up to the annual football showdown, brands turned to digital natives in hopes of expanding the reach of their campaigns.
For the 58th edition of the Big Game, creators played multiple positions.
The Logan Pauls and KSIs of the world can use the Super Bowl to advertise their own products, but for other influencers, team-ups with advertisers opened up new doors. It’s not just brands that are getting in on the influencer marketing trend — even the NFL itself is paying attention to the growth of creator content. Without further ado, here are some partnerships that caught our attention during the first few days of February:

In a new cooking competition series, creator contestants are vying for the ultimate prize: A personal insult from Gordon Ramsay himself. The hot-blooded chef and TV host has premiered Idiot Sandwich, which he is distributing through his official YouTube channel.
Idiot Sandwich got its start as a bit on The Late Late Show With James Corden. As part of a Hell’s Kitchen parody, Ramsey personified one of his favorite barbs by holding pieces of bread on both sides of a person’s head. And thus, the “idiot sandwich” meme was born; it’s now evolving into a full-fledged series that will feature creators like Rhett & Link, Zach King, and Lexi Hensler.

A slew of internet celebs are starring in a new sandwich competition from Gordon Ramsay.
The celebrity chef is launching Idiot Sandwich on his YouTube channel tomorrow (Wednesday January 17).
Comedy duo Rhett & Link, magician Zach King and social media influencer Lexi Hensler are among those starring in the series, which originated from a clip of Ramsay on The Late Late Show with James Corden where he held two slices of bread against Julie Chen’s face as he was yelling at her in a kitchen.
The series is produced by Fox joint venture Studio Ramsay Global, hosted and exec produced by Ramsay, with episodes launching weekly on Ramsay’s YouTube channel, which has over 20M followers.
There are no current plans for a linear show, but the idea is to expand into the world of book publishing, products, merchandising and experiences.

VidSummit is about to hold its tenth annual creator conference, and instead of heading to its usual location in Los Angeles, it’s got new digs in Dallas that will double its attendee capacity.
Founded in 2014 by consultant Derral Eves, VidSummit brings together creators and other industry professionals for three days of programming focused on upping the ante across every aspect of content creation.
For the past five years, it’s sold out of all 1,500 spots at its old venue–a sign, Eves tells Tubefilter, that VidSummit has grown from “this hidden underground event” to something bigger, where “the top 1% of the people that are pushing the needle” can network and share strategies for growing their YouTube channels, TikTok accounts, and more.
This year, VidSummit is moving to Irving, a city just north of Dallas, to a venue that allows for 3,000 attendees. Eves expects it’ll sell out this year too.

It feels a little strange to say this in August, but the 2023 Streamy Awards are officially over, and they handed out a grand total of 50 awards to this year’s top creators.
This was the first year Tubefilter and dick clark productions held Streamys in the summertime, but the change of season didn’t mean everything changed: For the fourth time in a row, MrBeast took home Creator of the Year, and for the second time in a row, Kai Cenat snagged Streamer of the Year.
As for Show of the Year, that went to Michelle Khare and her daredevil series Challenge Accepted.
This year’s ceremony was hosted by MatPat, and featured dozens of presenters, including Dylan Mulvaney, Ryan Trahan, The Try Guys‘ Keith Habersberger and Zach Kornfeld, Smosh‘s Anthony Padilla and Ian Hecox, TikTok Npc streamer Pinkydoll, Colin and Samir, Dream, Michelle Khare, Anna Sitar, Austin Creed,...

The 2023 Streamy Awards honored the best in content creation on social media and Dylan Mulvaney took the trophy for Breakout Creator.
“I’m really shocked because I thought the only award I’d ever win was maybe a Tony Award but now I’m a musical theater gal with a Streamy,” the social media star said while accepting her award Sunday at the Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles.
Mulvaney went viral after receiving backlash from conservative media over promoting Bud Light.
“532 days ago, I made a coming-out video that turned into my ‘Days of Girlhood’ series, and my life has been changed for the better,” she continued. “But on the flip side, there’s also been an extreme amount of transphobia and hate, and I know that my community is feeling it.”

Two days before the 2023 Streamy Awards, creator economy experts Colin Rosenblum and Samir Chaudry uploaded a special conversation with some of the show’s nominees. The podcasting duo shared a round table with Cleo Abram, Ammar Kandil of Yes Theory, Michelle Khare, Zach King, and Ryan Trahan, all of whom discussed their experiences as online video professionals.
The conversation, dubbed “YouTube Mastermind,” offered insights from prominent figures in the creator ecosystem. The individuals who assembled at Colin and Samir’s roundtable weren’t just 2023 Streamy nominees. Four of them — Kandil, Khare, King, and Trahan — have taken home trophies at previous editions of the online video award show. (Full disclosure: Tubefilter co-produces the Streamys alongside dick clark productions.)
The wide-ranging conversation touched on many topics related to the creator lifestyle. The panelists discussed their daily lives, routines, and creative processes, while also identifying hurdles they had to overcome before making it big.

TikTok is introducing a “new, longer format” that aims to serve both creators and viewers. The app has debuted themed collections of paywalled videos, which it has dubbed TikTok Series.
A TikTok blog post described Series as a feature that will turn “stories, talents and creativity” into “premium content.” A single Series can include up to 80 videos, each of which can run for up to 20 minutes. Creators will be able to set custom prices for their Series.
Series is an extension of TikTok’s Collections. “Series joins our growing range of monetization solutions,” reads the post, “as we continue to build new ways for creators to feel valued and rewarded as they inspire and engage our community.”
TikTok has spent the last year exploring the idea of paywalled content; in January 2022, the app tested paid account subscriptions that sounded similar to Twitch’s Subscriptions or YouTube’s Channel Memberships.

March 1 marked the one-month anniversary of YouTube Shorts ads. With 30 days of data under their belts, several creators are answering the million-dollar question: How big are Shorts payouts?
The answer: Not that big, at least for now. Zach King, a vertical video veteran who first broke out on Vine before expanding to platforms like TikTok and YouTube, collected 196.4 million Shorts views during February. That traffic translated to $2,918.10 of ad revenue, which means that King’s Shorts made less than two cents for every thousand views they received.
The first official month of the #YoutubeShorts program is finished, here are my numbers. For context, this is about 2x better than TokTok monetization. And infinitely better than Ig monetization. pic.twitter.com/kPIEcilggS
— Zach King (@zachking) March 1, 2023
Other creators reported slightly higher earnings. A channel owner who goes by the moniker SpaceGod made about four cents per thousand Shorts views in February.

April 22, 2020 marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, and as the global community comes together to fight the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the event serves as a reminder that we’re all living on this planet together.
From family-friendly features to critical conservationist documentaries, here’s a list of educational Earth Day programs to watch.
Disney+
The Disney streaming service has a slew of options, including the Disneynature Meghan Markel-narrated documentary “Elephant” and Natalie Portman’s “Dolphin Reef.”
There’s also conservation-minded feature films including “Avatar,” “Bambi” and “Pocahontas” — something for everyone in the family.
Earth Day also coincides with National Parks Week, and National Geographic has its eight-part “America’s National Parks” series, which highlights sites like The Grand Canyon and Yellowstone — places we’d definitely want to visit instead of sheltering at home. National Geographic also has over a dozen documentaries, including the premiere of Jane Goodall’s “The Hope.

Chipotle is ticking all the millennial and Gen Z boxes with its Super Bowl ad outing, which will involve a bevvy of TikTok stars including David Dobrik and Addison 'Rae' Easterling, set to the musical stylings of Justin Bieber.
To promote the fact that it will be offering free delivery on Sundays throughout the month of February -- for all orders over $10 -- Chipotle is launching a digital campaign dubbed 'TikTok Timeout'. Creators will be tasked with showcasing their own personal content stylings set to Bieber’s new single, “Yummy.”
Rather than running on TV during the big game, the spots will air on exclusively on TikTok -- but during commercials after team time-outs have been called. (They can also be accessed via the hashtag #TikTokTimeout on Sunday). In addition to Dobrik and Easterling, participants include Zach King, Avani Gregg, Nick Uhas, Brittany Broski, Joshua Sadowski, Zahra, Kyle Shaffer, and Greg Auerbach.

This Halloween, Chipotle got into the spooky spirit with its annual ‘Boorito’ promotion — with a little help from some buzzworthy TikTok stars.
The Mexican chain's annual Boorito venture enables costumed customers who place their orders in-store (after 3 pm on Halloween) to purchase an entree for just $4 -- including burritos, bowls, salads, and tacos.
Separately, Chipotle launched a companion contest on TikTok under the #Boorito hashtag, in which participants were challenged to share their before-and-after Halloween costume transformations. Zach King, a special effects ace whose six-second bursts of creativity have earned him more than a billion loops on Vine, has proven himself to be an effective brand partner. Among his many sponsored projects, he’s created videos for Sony, Red Bull, and Best Buy. For his latest partnership, King has teamed up with NBC for a 360-degree video that promotes the upcoming premiere of Heroes Reborn.

Update, Monday Actuals, 4 Pm: All of the top 10 films, except for Fox’s Taken 3, came in lower than their weekend projections yesterday morning due to the Super Bowl, with Warner Bros./Village Roadshow missing its target record as the largest grossing title over Super Bowl weekend. Disney’s Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best Of Both Worlds Concert holds onto to that title ($31.117M) with American Sniper ranking second with a $30.66M Fss. Said one rival distribution chief, “It’s hard to nail down these predictions down to the penny when there is something so extraordinary like the Super Bowl in the market. No one saw this as being the highest-rated Super Bowl ever. Next weekend will be easier to project.” Warner Bros. was initially anticipating a 70% drop on Super Bowl Sunday for American Sniper from its Saturday B.O. of $16.5M but yesterday charted lower with a 74% decline for $4.4M.

For the third year in a row, Friskies is honoring the best cat videos on the web through an award ceremony called The Friskies. This year, The Friskies will get a big bump thanks to some assistance from the YouTube community. Four celebrity "captains" will use their YouTube channels to get the vote out and raise money for cat shelters in the process. The Friskies began in 2012, when Michael Buckley presented awards across four different categories. This time around, The Fine Bros joined Grumpy Cat at VidCon to announce a new format, one that will divide into four open-ended categories of its own: Funny, Res-cute, Strange, and Epic. Each of these categories will be overseen by its own judge. Grace Helbig is attached to Funny, Jesse Wellens of PrankVsPrank will captain Rescute, Henri Le Chat Noir creator Will Braden will take control of Strange, and Vine star Zach King is in charge of Epic.
