WWE taped Thursday’s edition of WWE SmackDown on Tuesday evening in Tampa, Fl. The show took place at the Amalie Arena, home to the NHL’s Tampa Bay Lightning.
Following an episode Raw that saw the main event for WWE Fast Lane announced, as well as a surprise return appearance from The Rock, what does WWE have in store for us this Thursday evening on the USA Network? Below are the full spoilers for Thursday’s broadcast.
The New Day opened the show with a promo segment to respond to what happened between them and The Rock Monday during Raw. They pointed out they have championship belts currently, unlike Rock. They talked about Rock’s promo on Monday not being “PG” and disagreed that their unicorn hats look like lama genitalia.
The Miz came out to agree with The New Day, accusing The Usos are riding their relative’s (Rock) coattails.

The most recent WWE Tough Enough winner has landed himself in some hot water with a since-deleted tweet that mocked the new quartet Social Outcasts.
Josh Bredl’s rash decision resulted in immediate criticism from WWE superstars, and not just the four group members.
The tweet in question read, “Yup.. I like it.. #SocialJobbers” and was later deleted, but Josh — who wrestles as Bronson Matthews — was verbally taken to the woodshed by WWE wrestlers such as Curtis Axel, Heath Slater, Adam Rose, Stardust and Kevin Owens.
While the three Social Outcast members mocked and made light of the situation, Stardust and Owens lashed out at the rookie, with Stardust tweeting, “Enjoy dressing in the hall d**k. Not blocked. Banned.” Owens blocked Matthews, tweeting “Look at the veteran here with the big fancy insider terms!”

Alberto Del Rio has won back the Us Title, in a match to be aired on Thursday’s Smackdown.
The show was taped on Tuesday night in Lafayette, Louisiana. Del Rio’s victory means that Kalisto’s Us Title run barely lasted a day. He won it back via distraction when King Barrett got involved.
What was the point in doing the original title switch? It is because WWE are trying to create interest for Smackdown now that is on the USA Network, and having Del Rio win the belt back is seen as dramatic. They are already crowing about it on their website, trying to generate interest for the broadcast. There’s also genuine desire to push Kalisto, and he can at least say that he’s a former Us Champion. Did it undermine him to lose it so quickly? Possibly, but he’s also had more...

Four-time WWE Champion Brock Lesnar has been confirmed as an entrant in the 2016 Royal Rumble match on January 24th.
His participation has been made official following this week’s Raw, in which Heyman suggested that the winner of the Rumble face Brock for the title at WrestleMania 32. Vince was reluctant to follow through with such an idea, and instead booked Lesnar to be in the match itself.

As I was live tweeting Raw over at @WhatCultureWWE on Twitter, I was preparing for Dolph Ziggler to have a random mid card match with a talent when all of a sudden Heath Slater appears with Adam Rose, Curtis Axel and Bo Dallas. I immediately perked up and wondered what was going on. Was this 2016’s answer to the J.O.B Squad?
The 4 stars seemed to be so out of place together that it kinda worked. The mismatch of personalities kind of matched. Then, when Slater scored a pinfall over Ziggler and the four cut passionate promos on their new partnership, it suddenly seemed that WWE was putting these four under-utilized talents together to create a faction that might give them something substantial to do on WWE Television.
Then I got to thinking, if this faction of Social Outcasts takes off, there’s no reason they couldn...

WWE appeared to form the 2016 version of The Job Squad on last night’s Raw. Heath Slater fronted a new faction called “Social Outcasts” along with Curtis Axel, Bo Dallas and Adam Rose.
The Showoff and Slater faced off in a singles match, but instead of appearing alone – which Heath has done since 3Mb members Drew McIntyre and Jinder Mahal were fired in 2014 – The One Man Band was accompanied by Messrs Axel, Rose and Dallas with no explanation.
However, if you look at each of the Superstar’s social media accounts, you’ll notice that they were all tweeting about ‘change’ in the build up to Raw – hinting that a new faction could be on the horizon.

Chris Jericho returned during last night’s episode of Raw and confirmed he will be taking part in the Royal Rumble match later this month.
Y2J interrupted a New Day promo – a brave move I know – and announced that he would be entering the over the top rope spectacular with the aim of main eventing WrestleMania for the second time in his career.
However, now we now that if Jericho does indeed come out on top he will be the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion, after Vince McMahon revealed the Rumble match will be for Roman Reigns’ title.
The Ayatollah of Rock ‘n’ rolla joins Reigns (C), Bray Wyatt, Erick Rowan, Luke Harper, Braun Strowman, Dolph Ziggler, Ryback, The Big Show and Curtis Axel as the Superstars confirmed for the event.

Vince McMahon took to the mic at the end of last night’s episode of Raw to reveal a major change to this year’s Royal Rumblewith the news that Roman Reigns will defend his WWE World Heavyweight Title in the 30-man match later this month.
The Big Dog retained his WWE title against Sheamus on Raw in a match that McMahon himself officiated. The boss had previously promised that Reigns would not leave the arena in San Antonio, Texas with the strap, although it’s now clear that he’s happy for Roman to reign until the end of the month at least.

Curtis Axel has been revealed as the second participant into this year’s 30-man WWE Royal Rumble.
He follows Big Show into the confirmed list of names after the Giant entered himself on last week’s Raw.
WWE.com made the Curtis Axel announcement this weekend with the following teaser;
Big Show emerged on Raw to become the first competitor in this year’s 30-man melee, and we’ve since learned that Curtis Axel — who claims he was never eliminated from last year’s Royal Rumble Match — will also enter the fray (even though he evidently never left it). Which other Superstars will announce their participation in the weeks ahead? Expect more Royal Rumble news on Raw.
After how WWE turned Axel never being eliminated from last year’s Rumble into an angle which sadly never lived up to its potential, you can pretty much be rest assured...

Ric Flair and Kane have been added to WWE’s European Tour. They will be the replacements for John Cena and Daniel Bryan on the ten day international trip.
Cena has pulled out due to “personal reasons” and isn’t advertised for any November WWE shows beyond Hell In A Cell. He is still scheduled for December shows, so presumably he is on a month break.
Daniel Bryan is out of action with an injury, but had been expected to go on the European tour in a character capacity. He had originally been on the WWE Belfast advertising, but has now been removed. Kane and Ric Flair are now on the advertising, with Cena and Bryan removed.
It is a big disappointment for the European fans. Cena is the biggest star, and Bryan isn’t far behind in terms of fans just loving him. The shows suddenly look much worse value for money.

Damien Sandow has brought back his Intellectual Saviour of the Masses gimmick. Sort of.
The Miz’s former stunt double, who has been missing from our screens for some time now, worked a dark match at last night’s SmackDown taping in Little Rock, Arkansas against Adam Rose. He came out in his trademark blue robe and wore pink tights in the ring. He was a babyface, however – unlike his previous run as the character where he won the Money in the Bank contract, no less – and cut a promo after his win to say that he was no longer a stunt double and would now be portraying “the voice of common sense…”
Well, being a condescending so-and-so towards the WWE Universe isn’t going to get you over as a babyface, is it?
just watched Sandow defeat Rose as a Face in his Og attire. #mainevent #smackdown pic.

What has been billed as the final batch of Superstars for WWE 2K16 has been confirmed this afternoon.
Here are the names in full: Bray Wyatt, Mikey Whipwreck, The New Day (Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods & Big E), Enzo Amore & Colin Cassady, Stunning Steve Austin, Superstar Steve Austin, Rusev, American Bad Ass Undertaker, Baron Corbin, Brian Pillman, Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso, Konnor, Viktor, Mark Henry, Ministry Undertaker, Ricky Steamboat, Savio Vega, Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley, Sting ’99, Sting Blonde and finally the two Terminator renders.
The new names show how in-depth the Stone Cold mode will be. It looks like we’re going to be travelling right through his days as a Hollywood Blonde with Brian Pillman and that feud with Ricky Steamboat, stopping off for a cup of coffee in Ecw to feud with Mikey Whipwreck (and maybe Sandman?), and then going through his main run in WWE, including the 2001 Royal Rumble.

A new video posted by IGN has apparently revealed the (almost) full roster for WWE 2K16.
It is common knowledge now that the new game will have a bumper roster of 120 unique characters, but the list below falls a few short of that while Hulk Hogan is still a part of it. The Hulkster has been removed from the game altogether for reasons that you don’t need me to tell you about.
There are a number of shocking inclusions, including Superstars down the pecking order in Nxt and Attitude Era stars who had very little to do with cover star Stone Cold Steve Austin. While there are also a number of notable exclusions, including the Legion of Doom, who seemed to be nailed on for a place in the new title after leaked video footage appeared to show Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler and Jim Ross recording commentary...

So much has happened in the WWE Universe in the last twelve months that it’s hard to believe that Payback 2014 was the last time the The Shield were together, having split following Seth Rollins’s shocking betrayal on the following night’s Raw. It was very apt, then, that the main event for Payback 2015, a Fatal 4-Way match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship featured all three former members of The Shield as well as Randy Orton, who they had demolished as part of Evolution at Payback 2014.
One particular moment stood out, when Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose and defending champion Seth Rollins momentarily joined forces to triple powerbomb Orton on the commentator’s table, sending the audience wild in the process, but any hopes for a Shield reunion were dashed after Ambrose and Reigns turned down Rollins’s attempt to have them put their fists together in the old Shield manner.

For a few weeks, this is good, but eventually, presume that Nxt diehards will tire of the situation and may possibly tune out on the brand in full until the returns of Hideo Itami and Sami Zayn.
As well, there’s a unique situation on the main roster that dovetails quite nicely with that’s happening in Nxt as Cesaro does not have a tag partner, while excellent performers Damien Sandow and Curtis Axel are without more significant roles on TV past imitating Randy Savage and Hulk Hogan. Maybe in embracing their own organic personas, there’s a way for...

Paul Heyman has been off WWE TV since the Raw after WrestleMania, but he’s set to on the June 15 show after Money in the Bank, reports PWInsider.
That’s because Heyman is the advocate of former WWE Champion Brock Lesnar, who is set to return on June 22 and a June 15 promo will hype The Beast’s comeback. PWInsider does say Heyman could come back on June 22 as well although an appearance the week before is likely the plan.
In terms of the storyline, Lesnar has been suspended since that March 30 episode of Raw and his name hasn’t been mentioned that much on WWE TV since then. The same goes for Heyman, who looks like he’ll only be the advocate for Lesnar rather than aligning with somebody else. It would make a lot of sense to have Heyman return as a surprise on June 15 to say...

WWE Payback is less than 24 hours old, but there’s already a distinct impression that the company could have saved themselves a lot of hassle by simply bypassing the event altogether and looking forward to Elimination Chamber. Nonetheless, what looked on paper to be a relatively humdrum card actually came together pretty nicely, and even the matches fans considered as filler worked out well.
The longest match on the card was the one most predicted to last a lengthy duration – John Cena vs. Rusev in an ‘I Quit’ encounter went just a few minutes short of half an hour, with the main event Fatal Four Way for the WWE World Heavyweight Title also going in excess of 20 minutes. Of course, the WWE Divas were allotted the shortest time on the main card, only going a little over 6 minutes, but that was nothing compared to the short, 2-minute collision...

WWE.com have confirmed that Bray Wyatt will face Ryback at this Sunday’s Payback PPV.
It was a match that has been expected for a few weeks after Wyatt attacked Ryback randomly on Raw on April 27. That led to another attack on Smackdown.
Following the many promos by Wyatt, Ryback spoke up last week on Raw and then this past week he took the fight to Wyatt, which caused Wyatt to leave the ring and Ryback stood tall on Raw. The match should have been made official during Monday’s Raw, but for whatever reason WWE announced it on their website today.
Both performers have come a long way from when Wyatt was known as Husky Harris and Ryback was known as Skip Sheffield. They have reached a point in their careers where they have become known commodities in WWE. The crowd may boo Wyatt because he’s a heel,...

This week’s Raw was the last episode before Payback, so we got a better sense of what to expect from the PPV on Sunday night. What was interesting is that it looks like WWE has a full card ready, but they have advertised six matches officially with a couple of others very likely to take place.
Keep in mind that WWE is taping Smackdown tonight, so they will probably make other matches official at that show.
Here are the six matches that are official as well as notes on the others that are likely going to take place.
WWE Title: Seth Rollins vs. Randy Orton vs. Roman Reigns vs. Dean Ambrose – It’s a fatal fourway match where the first fall gets the win. A stipulation was added on Raw by Triple H where he told Kane that if Rollins doesn’t leave Payback as WWE Champion...

With Extreme Rules over and Payback coming up only three weeks later, WWE has already set the stage for some of the big matches at their annual May PPV. This week’s edition of Smackdown helped to further those storylines while not really setting up new rivalries.
There was a pretty big main event on Smackdown that WWE should have advertised because Seth Rollins taking on Dean Ambrose is a big match. WWE didn’t mention it on Raw. This is the kind of thing that is confusing because if you’re going to put on a big match like that you should promote it heavily. Instead, they didn’t even mention it.
It was also concerning that Smackdown was down about 300,000 viewers this week on Syfy. Thursday was supposed to lead to a bigger audience for the “blue brand” yet it really hasn’t happened. It’s...

Smackdown was taped on Tuesday in Moline, Illinois. The show opened with Seth Rollins and Kane continuing to argue. Kane made it Rollins versus Dean Ambrose in the main event. Roman Reigns then came out and challenged Kane to a match.
The match started and went to a count out after Kane walked out on it.
Damien Sandow defeated Curtis Axel in the second match of the evening. Next up was Ryback and Luke Harper, which Ryback won. Bray Wyatt then came out and beat him down, leaving him on the mat via the Sister Abigail.
Tyson Kidd and Cesaro defeated The New Day by disqualification, after Xavier Woods interfered when the Cesaro Swing was taking place.
Nikki Bella beat Cameron in the typically lifeless diva contest of the evening.

We are a couple of weeks removed, now, from WrestleMania, and we are heading towards WWE’s next PPV, Extreme Rules. The WWE product hasn’t really changed a great deal since a month ago, except for Brock Lesnar no longer being WWE Champion and taking time-off, and different feuds being underway. Mostly though, on television, it’s the same players in many of the same set-ups. Let’s see how tonight plays out, shall we?
Match Results:
Dean Ambrose & Luke Harper fought to a no-contest The New Day defeated The Lucha Dragons Fandango beat Curtis Axel Naomi downed Brie Bella Sheamus squashed Zack Ryder John Cena defeated Kane The Miz pinned Damien Mizdow Ryback crushed Adam Rose Seth Rollins pinned Dolph Ziggler

This week’s Smackdown featured a limited WWE roster because half of the crew flew to England on Tuesday morning for the start of the annual European tour that takes place every April and November. It was as if it was the good old days of the brand extension when some people were never on Raw and only on Smackdown.
The absence of half the roster meant that the WWE Champion Seth Rollins was not there. We don’t know for sure if he’s going to be on every week, but chances are good that he will be simply because he’s a younger wrestler that’s usually is on every show. Randy Orton, the Extreme Rules opponent of Rollins, also wasn’t at the show so there wasn’t much in terms of story advancement. It also meant no Us Champion John Cena although he’s not a Smackdown regular anyway.

WWE Smackdown was taped in Dallas, Texas on Tuesday night. The show marks the return of Bray Wyatt to in-ring action and continues the build toward Extreme Rules on April 26.
The show started with a Daniel Bryan promo, in which he put over the meaning of the Intercontinental Title. He was interrupted by Bad News Barrett, who gloated about the Bull Hammer he hit last week. Sheamus then interrupted proceedings, coming out to “you look stupid” chants and really strong heat.
Sheamus and Barrett threatened to come down and beat Bryan up, but Dolph Ziggler then came out to back up the babyface. That resulted in Big Show coming out, only for Roman Reigns to enter and even up the sides again. This set up the main event for later.
The first match was Tyson Kidd and Cesaro versus New Day, with Kidd and Cesaro picking up the victory.

Whether you’re ready for Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar or not, WrestleMania 31 is almost here! The past year has been an interesting one for WWE’s roster. WrestleMania 30 headliner Daniel Bryan lost eight months of his career to an injury, and Reigns emerged as the heir apparent to John Cena. But if you look at every wrestler in WWE right now, you’ll see that a lot of them aren’t as valuable to the company as they were at last year’s show.
Sure, a few careers have been boosted. While some fans seem to have soured on Reigns, there’s no doubt he’s in a better position in Vince McMahon’s eyes than last year. On a smaller scale, Tyson Kidd is having the most relevant run of his career right now, Curtis Axel is getting a little something, Jamie Noble and Joey Mercury...

Firmly into the home straight for Wrestlemania 31 from Santa Clara and off of the back of last night’s Raw, it appears the final card has been set, although you should expect to see some kind of Tag Title match added at some point, probably for the mammoth Pre-Show!
Officially added to the card last night was the long suspected, long awaited clash between ‘The Viper’ Randy Ortron and ‘Mr. Money in the Bank’ Seth Rollins. Rollins officially accepted Orton’s challenge in the opening segment on the condition Orton face Rollins later in the show.
Far from WWE to give away one of ‘Mania’s marquee match-ups, this of course was a tease of not just the Orton vs. Rollins match but also Sting’s first ever WWE match against Triple H, when he joined Orton in the ring to fend of the Authority as Raw went off the air.

WrestleMania is WWE’s biggest show of the year, so they try to get as many people on the show as possible. Last year WWE announced that they would have an annual WrestleMania battle royal named after Andre the Giant where the winner gets a trophy that is a statue of Andre, who was WWE’s first Hall of Famer.
From WWE.com, here’s a listing of the competitors in the match with two weeks to go until WrestleMania: The Miz, Curtis Axel, Ryback, Fandango, Adam Rose, Zack Ryder, Jack Swagger, Titus O’Neil, Darren Young, Big Show, Kane, Erick Rowan, Damien Mizdow and Sin Cara. That’s 14 names. The expectation is that there will be 20 people in the match, so they’re either waiting on announcing the final six or they aren’t going to bother announcing it.

A couple weeks ago, WhatCulture posted a news article about the disconnect between the Nxt roster and the WWE roster. It seems that both rosters lament what the other roster has that they don’t have. Nxt wrestlers who believe they’re ready for the big time want to get called up so they can make more money and perform in front of more fans. WWE wrestlers, especially including Divas, are jealous of the amount of in-ring time that the Nxt roster gets, and the fact they’re allowed to actually wrestle. There was a lot of talk back in December that the Nxt: Takeover special that aired the Thursday before the TLC Pay Per View was a much better show, and there’s good reason for that.
So why don’t we give both rosters what they want? There are certainly some Nxt wrestlers, male and female,...

Eventually, Dean Ambrose came in for the save. During the exchanges, R Truth appeared and stole the intercontinental title belt.

This week in the world of professional wrestling, Wade Barrett lost two more non-title matches to the surprise of no one. Paul Heyman said he’d pick Roman Reigns over Bruno Sammartino and Steve Austin, which no one believed. Brock Lesnar decided to go home, and Curtis Axel amazed the world with the best promo of his career on Raw. Then he quickly butchered his next one on SmackDown by saying he’d been in the Royal Rumble match for hours, not days. Perhaps this mistake will lead to more dumb luck which will somehow get him more TV time.
We also saw John Cena get kicked in the balls at Fastlane which was kind of fun. Then the announcers ruined it by putting more focus on Cena losing because everyone suddenly thinks he’s old and frail. Forget that he was kicked in the nards! The storyline...

After what was a rather bland and unexciting PPV at Fastlane, WWE continue to hype the upcoming 31st WrestleMania event, an event in which many of the matches seem to be either confirmed, or all but confirmed with strong reasons to think they’ll happen. On the card, it seems we will see Roman Reigns in a one-on-one match against WWE World Champ Brock Lesnar. The Undertaker against Bray Wyatt. Sting against Triple H. The second Andre the Giant Invitational Battle Royale. These, and others, will fill the card, and it is likely that many of these matches will fall short of what many fans wanted to see happen at the big show. It’s a shame that these matches are going to happen because WWE have a terrific roster and could have put on a much more imaginative and enticing extravaganza this year. Oh well.

We continue on the Road to WrestleMania 31 here with the second Raw of February 2015. Last week we saw Daniel Bryan beat Seth Rollins in order to gain a shot at Roman Reigns at WWE Fast Lane, with the winner of that match going to WrestleMania to face Brock Lesnar for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. So, plenty to be curious about here, let’s get on with it.
The show opens with Roman Reigns heading to the ring to 80% boo’s, 20% cheers, and talks about how he won the Royal Rumble and shouldn’t have to earn his shot at Lesnar again. Reigns bumbled his lines yet again here, they need to keep him quiet and get him to practice more, seriously. Bryan interrupts to 80% cheers, 20% boo’s, and tells Reigns that they will be fighting at Fast Lane, and that he is the better wrestler, etc. The Authority interrupts,...

WWE didn’t quite hit the reset button this week, but it sure looks like they’re feeling a little shaky about what to do at WrestleMania. Two years in a row now the Royal Rumble winner was greeted with escalating hostility. Next year maybe they’ll look to start an all-out riot and let Sheamus win again. Are they trying to buy time hoping fans will come around to Roman Reigns? Or are they just needlessly teasing them some more by letting them think that Daniel Bryan could main-event another Mania?
In times like this, it’s best to assume the usual: they have absolutely no idea what they’re doing!
In other wrestling questions this week, couldn’t Ethan Carter have found some electric clippers that didn’t need to be plugged in so he could shave Rockstar Spud’s hair? At least he could have...

This week’s edition of Smackdown followed a Raw that had a “big announcement” that really wasn’t that big of a deal. All that Triple H announcement did on Raw was set up the main event of that show, which was a win by Daniel Bryan over Seth Rollins. That set up the Bryan match against Roman Reigns at Fast Lane on February 22nd. Going into Smackdown, they continued that story.
It was one of those episodes where they focused on those main two guys, had some decent midcard action and then a lot of short matches. They still started the show off with an interview segment with Miz hosting MizTV with Bryan and Reigns, but at least it was different than the typical Triple H promo to starts off Raw nearly every week.

Smackdown was filmed on Tuesday from Colorado Springs. The show will air on Thursday night and was primarily concerned with Daniel Bryan’s momentum towards WWE Fast Lane.
Opening the broadcast was a Miz TV segment. The guests were Bryan and Roman Reigns, but things quickly fell apart when Reigns hit the Superman Punch on The Miz. The Royal Rumble winner then challenged Bryan to a fight, but Seth Rollins turned up and interrupted the stare off. It was then announced that Bryan would be facing Rollins, Jamie Noble and Joey Mercury in Smackdown’s main event.
Ryback and Dolph Ziggler defeated Stardust and Goldust, after Stardust decided to walk out on his partner. The break up had been coming for some time.
It looked like Ryback and Ziggler could be going forward as a new tag team. The idea here was that it was “The Big Guy...

Michael Cole began this week’s Raw with a sentence something like “we are only 50 days away, on this Road to WrestleMania”. 50 days. That’s a decent amount of time for WWE to put the hype machine behind the entire roster in order to assemble a fantastic card for their annual extravaganza. We have all heard the rumours of matches that WWE may have planned, but there is only one confirmed as we head into this episode of Raw, being the main event between Brock Lesnar and Royal Rumble winner, Roman Reigns, for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. With Triple H hyping a “huge announcement” for tonight, the question is… will things take a swerve on the road to the grand-daddy of them all.
Raw opens with Triple H and Stephanie McMahon heading to the ring, jovial and smiling. They talk about the Superbowl a little, and discuss the conteroversy that ended the Royal Rumble,...

The Royal Rumble pay per view, as a whole, was a disaster of epic proportions.
The undercard was non existent and the Rumble match itself was uninspiring. The surprising returns, for all their nostalgic value, didn’t hit the heights of previous years while too many stale performers, the likes of Curtis Axel, R-Truth and Adam Rose took the places of hungry Nxt superstars who should have been given a chance to showcase their skills.
The Rock’s ‘surprise’ appearance was publicised (with the obvious ploy to get more network subscription) which made his return to the ring something of an anticlimax. And at the end of the day, who didn’t see Roman Reigns picking up the win?
The event left the WWE Universe in attendance, and those watching on the WWE Network undoubtedly too, up in arms at the farce they had just witnessed. A chorus...

Not everyone can have a great year in professional year. This year, though, it seems that many people had a terrible year. For every success story like Seth Rollins, and Damien Sandow, there were quite a few more who either remained stuck in neutral, or seemed to have backtracked in terms of success.
An example of a previous disappointment would be Ryback. In 2012, he was suddenly shot to the top of the card and main-evented two of the last three pay-per-views of the year. At the end of 2013, he was stuck in a mid-card tag team with Curtis Axel. Now that’s a disappointment!
This year Ryback may have bounced back a little bit, but others have essentially taken his place. In the vast majority of cases, the talent largely wasn’t at fault. Time and time again, creative has kept this generation of wrestlers from reaching their full potential.

Just a short while ago Ryback was looking like yet another can’t-miss prospect that WWE totally found a way to miss on. After exploding out of the gate with squash matches over local jobbers and being inserted into the main event rather quickly, his push was neutered and he was shunted back down the card, eventually becoming mired in a tag team with Curtis Axel. His run as a Paul Heyman guy was a failure and before long an injury put the former Skip Sheffield out of action for months.
When Ryback made his triumphant return to WWE the fans were quick to jump back on his bandwagon, and he was immediately made into a featured player in the Survivor Series main event storyline. The hunger for new stars has the fans accepting of The Big Guy and the “Goldberg” chants have almost completely been replaced by...

Oh, what a three hours and five minutes it was in Detroit's oft-referenced Joe Louis Arena on Monday night. Faces long in absentia descended, queasy alliances seemed to gel and poor Fandango and Adam Rose were emphatically re-cemented as transitional squash talent.
It's a lot to take in, I know. But neither quiver nor fret, because as always, I've broken the action down into five essential takeaways. And, as a bonus, thrown in a bunch of stuff that may have taught us nothing, but gave everyone something to tweet about.

Tune in to Monday Night Raw and you will inevitably hear Michael Cole tout the lineage of a second- or third-generation superstar. Legacies are a big part of professional wrestling right now. WWE currently is chock-full of wrestlers whose fathers competed in the squared circle (although some of them are never referenced): Randy Orton, Curtis Axel, the Usos, Goldust, Stardust, Bo Dallas, Bray Wyatt, Diego, The Rock and Roman Reigns. If you look at the roster about a year ago, you could add Camacho, Alberto Del Rio, Road Dogg and Ted Dibiase to that list.
While second-generation wrestlers are often highly touted due to their lineage, the distinction is not limited to the men. There are a significant number of women who followed their fathers (and in some cases, their mothers) into the world of professional wrestling. Some have made their way to WWE and are currently competing on Raw and Smackdown,...

Smackdown was taped on Tuesday night from Fort Wayne, Indiana. The show will air Friday night and is going to be notable for the arrival of a “New Day” in WWE.
Proceedings started with The Big Show on Miz TV. This was interrupted by Daniel Bryan, who announced that he’s in charge of the show for the night. He stated that Rusev would defend the Us Title in a 20 man battle Royal. Also, Luke Harper will defend the Ic Title against Dolph Ziggler.
That was a decent start to the show, offering some attractive lures to stick with the broadcast.
Rusev retained the Us Title in the battle Royal. It was mostly undercard guys who nobody cared about. The few big names were Erick Rowan, Jack Swagger, Big Show, Cesaro, Miz and Mizdow. It came down to Swagger and Rusev, with the heel eventually powering the Real American over the top rope.

A period of time away from the cameras of Raw and Smackdown is the worst thing that could happen to a WWE Superstar.
Their place on the card is in jeopardy. A wrestler’s time away from action allows another to take their place. This has happened countless times throughout history and will continue to happen for all of time. It is the nature of the beast, one cog in the machine gets used up and is replaced by another.
The challenge for a superstar, after either taking a break or going through months of gruelling rehab, is to regain their place on the card without seeminng to be receiving any favours. We all saw how well that went for Batista at the start of the year.
The thing that will hurt most of all for a potential returnee is becoming irrelevant. Imagine how that must feel, to...

WWE was taped this week from the Echo Arena in Liverpool, England. The crowd was nearly a sell-out, and it didn’t take long for the UK fans to make their voices heard.
Half an hour before bell time and all you could hear was “Cena sucks” chants (and many ruder variations). There was also a vocal chorus of “Cm Punk” chants. Despite all of this, Cena merchandise was selling well, with the usual contingent of women and children being the main market. At £16 for a flimsy Cena autographed card, you can see how WWE continue to find success in commercial avenues.
The tapings started with the ‘Superstars’ show. First up was Sin Cara defeating Curtis Axel in a basic match. All the usual flips and flops from Cara, but the crowd were firmly behind Axel.
The second ‘Superstars’ match was Heath Slater versus Big E. The crowd...
