Lainey Lewis, consider yourself Schooled on the ABC’s of being a good teacher.
Wednesday’s premiere of the ’90s-set Goldbergs spinoff stars Aj Michalka as Barry Goldberg’s ex-fiancée, who’s gone from college dropout/wannabe rock star to music teacher at her old high school William Penn Academy. (The career detour comes courtesy of credit card debt and broken dreams.) Of course, Lainey doesn’t have the experience or credentials to be an educator, but she does have Beverly Goldberg on her side. The smother basically pesters Principal Glascott (The Goldbergs‘ Tim Meadows) into giving Lainey the job.

As a spinoff of ABC’s long-running ’80s comedy “The Goldbergs,” “Schooled” had a surprisingly rough time getting greenlit by the network. Persistence eventually paid off, but unfortunately, the result isn’t worth the wait. The mildly charming but confusing show that airs Wednesday is a clear result of its long and messy path to the airwaves.
“Schooled” began as glint in co-creators Adam F. Goldberg and Marc Firek’s eyes in November 2016 when they developed the idea for the spinoff, which eventually was ordered to pilot. ABC officially passed on the pilot in May 2017, but after much urging by Goldberg, the network agreed to air it as a backdoor pilot in January 2018, midway through Season 5 as a special episode of “The Goldbergs.” The episode performed on par with the rest of the season.

A quirky electronic tune, which features English lyrics and a scat-like vocal, “Toy” has amassed more than 60 million views on YouTube and reached No. 1 on Spotify’s Viral 50 chart around the globe, claiming the top spot in the U.S., UK, and Australia.
The song gained popularity in Israel thanks in large part to the dance featured in the video as well as its strong message. In the Chorus, Netta declares, “I’m not your toy / You stupid boy.”
Netta Barzilai is a 25-year-old singer who won the TV show “Hakokhav Haba,” Israel’s version of “American Idol” format. She was accompanied by a military band during her performance in the Eurovision grand finale, which followed two semi-final rounds.

We still have an entire year to wait for the first solo Transformers movie to hit theaters, but that hasn't stopped Paramount Pictures from delivering the first image from Bumblebee! Check out Hailee Steinfeld standing next to our favorite radio-using autobot, Bumblebee, in his classic digs!

Considering what we've had to endure with the more current Transformers tales, it's nice that Paramount is allowing the series to take a step back and show us where these characters came from. While I love that they're going back to the classic Vw Bug, it is a little surprising...

A new photo from the set of director Travis Knight's Bumblebee movie has surfaced online. It gives us our first look at Bumblebee as an old-school Vw bug. I love that we get to see Bumblebee in his original form this time around.
I'm really hoping that this movie will actually tell a decent story that Transformers fans will enjoy. I trust that Knight will give us something that is at least charming and enjoyable. Here's what we know about the plot so far:

(Aotn) Last week, we heard that the ‘Bumblebee‘ solo film had finally begun production. As the first spinoff film in the ‘Transformers‘ franchise, the team behind the the new solo films have talked openly about the importance of the ‘Bumblebee‘ movie. Although the franchise has grossed over 4.3 Billion worldwide, this film offers a turning point for the series in many ways. Especially when you consider each film has had diminishing returns from a box office perspective, the upcoming prequel needs to hit it out of the park to keep the franchise alive.
Based on our official first official look at Hailee Steinfeld‘s character “Charlie Watson”, this movie is certainly trying to differentiate itself as much as it possibly can from it’s predecessors. This is a good thing. It’s going to be interesting to finally see a someone else’s take on a ‘Transformers‘ film other than Michael Bay.

As production begins in the Transformers spin-off film Bumblebee, we have our first look at Hailee Steinfeld in the lead role of Charlie Watson. The actress posted the image on Twitter, and as you can see, she's sporting 80s-style punk look, which is the era that the film is set in. She's also teasing the character attitude with her look.

I've enjoyed the work film work that Steinfeld has been a part of and I'm sure she'll be great in the film, which also stars John Cena, Jorge Lendeborg, Jason Drucker, Abby Quinn, Rachel Crow,...

The Transformers franchise may never actually end. Transformers: The Last Knight, which has seen its domestic theatrical run nearly come to a complete close, only made $128.8 million domestically, down from the fourth chapter's $245 million, and Dark of the Moon's $352 million. In olden days, this would spell disaster for a blockbuster franchise, but due to growing global markets where Transformers has had insane success, there will be no shortage of Transformers films in the coming years. In fact, Transformers is becoming a proper movie universe like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, DC Extended Universe, and Dark Universe, with the next film set to be the spinoff titled Bumblebee.

We have good news and bad news coming out of the Transformers camp today.
First up, the good: WWE wrestler John Cena has landed a lead role in the Travis Knight-directed Bumblebee movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter. But rather than lighting up theaters in June, the first of Paramount’s Transformers spinoffs will now open Stateside on December 21st, 2018. That’s a release date it currently shares with Aquaman, so it’ll be interesting to find out if Warner Bros. and/or Paramount shuffle their slates to avoid a clash of interests or, in the more likely scenario, whether the two standalone tentpoles will duke it out for box office supremacy in a year’s time.
Then again, it’s worth keeping in mind that Paramount’s Bumblebee movie, one that takes place in the 1980s, will skew toward a younger audience – hence the casting of Cena – with...

Stay in the loop on industry and casting news with our weekly write-up on who’s been slated for recent film and television roles! “The Goldbergs Spinoff”The ’80s may be known for great music and rad clothing, but ABC is looking to tease a few more staples out of the following decade with its new spinoff pilot. While original series “The Goldbergs” is cruising along nicely, the network plans to take the singular nostalgia of the ’90s and package it into the 30-minute comedy format. Following a couple of Philadelphia teachers and a single mother of three looking for a new start, the memories of slap bracelets and boy bands will be on full display as the group navigates a pre-Y2K world to build a better future for their children. The project, cast by Leslie Litt, has already lined up a handful of cast members including Nia Long,...

‘Deidra & Laney Rob a Train’ Is Dual Genre DelightThe high school heist earns the pun “Ocean’s For Teen.”
Contrary to the title, Deidra and Laney rob many trains. They become prolific thieves, mastering and streamlining their illegal profession into the delicate series of events we usually see in heist movies. All while the sisters attend high school. Yes, Deidra & Laney Rob a Train is both a caper film and a high school comedy and for every moment it stumbles at one, it excels at the other.
Put into a desperate living situation after their mother’s (Danielle Nicolet) nervous breakdown-induced incarceration (she liberates a TV from her blue-poloed electronics store job, then this mortal coil), elder sister Deidra (Ashleigh Murray) must care for her younger sister Laney (Rachel Crow) and kid brother Jet (Lance Gray) against forces such as mortgage payments and snooping Cps agents. I like movies that understand how a small part of the...

There’s certainly no accusing Deidra & Laney Rob a Train of being too subtle. It is the kind of film that works in broad strokes, in comically heightened situations that stem, of course, from the decision described in the thuddingly literal title. But the title is a misnomer: Deidra (Ashleigh Murray) and Laney (Rachel Crow) rob many trains, and similar to those locomotives, the film chugs along, never assuming a particularly high or low level of emotion except in one scene shortly before the climax. There is a winning charm to this decision, enhanced by the consistently solid amount of chemistry all of the actors have with each other — especially the two leads — but they are let down by the fairly rote storylines that the characters are pigeonholed into.

Disney was once awfully good at a certain kind of cheerful kid-fueled adventure comedy, and it’s in that spirit that Sydney Freeland’s charming sophomore feature “Deidra & Laney Rob a Train” operates, save the kind of PG-13 language and grownup themes that might have given old Walt pause. Boasting a pair of winning star turns by newcomers Ashleigh Murray (CW’s “Riverdale”) and singer Rachel Crow (a former contestant on “The X Factor”) as frizzy-haired high school-age sisters who become small-time train thieves to solve family money problems, “Deidra & Laney” shows an easy flair for heartwarming comedy, character eccentricity and.

Girls just wanna have fun and shore up their college fund, while committing a bit of larceny, in Deidra & Laney Rob a Train. With a dash of grit and a healthy dose of Disney Channel-esque pep, the sophomore feature by director Sydney Freeland spins around two terrifically engaging big-screen newcomers. Ashleigh Murray and Rachel Crow bring a convincing sibling chemistry to the title roles, high-schoolers who find themselves in charge of a debt-ridden household. The breezy, exceptionally well-paced feature premiered in the Next section at Sundance and is scheduled for a worldwide Netflix launch on March 17.
