Sean Hannity joined the #CombatCOVID19Challenge on Sunday — but instead of buying groceries for a community center or delivering food to hospitals, like some of his other Fox News colleagues, the primetime host donated 500 Yankees tickets to medical workers in New York.
The catch, of course, is that the Yankees — and the rest of Major League Baseball — currently aren’t playing any games due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, so it’s not immediately clear when any of the medical workers would be able to use the tickets. (And whether health-care workers on the frontlines of the pandemic are going to be eager to return to a crowded stadium anytime soon.)
The #CombatCOVID19Challenge was started by Senators Kirsten Gillibrand (D-ny) and Ted Cruz (R-tx) two weeks ago to “encourage Americans to support each other” and demonstrate “acts of kindness and compassion,” particularly for essential workers on the front lines,...

Amazon, which owns a piece of Yes Network, is now going to stream a batch of Yankees games on Prime Video.
However, the live streams of 21 New York Yankees games during the Mlb’s 2020 regular season will be available only to Prime Video users in four states that comprise the Bronx Bombers’ home-team footprint: New York, Connecticut, northeast Pennsylvania, and north and central New Jersey.
Amazon Prime Video is getting non-exclusive localized rights to the Yankees matchups through the agreement with Yes Network. The games on Prime Video will be simulcasts of games produced by Yes for airing on CW-affiliated PIX11 and other over-the-air partners for Yankees telecasts.

The sale of the Yes Network, the regional sports network home of the New York Yankees and Brooklyn Nets, to a consortium including the Amazon, the Yankees and Sinclair Broadcast Group, was finalized Thursday.
At $3.47 billion, the transaction is the largest piece of turf in the larger landscape of the formerly Fox-owned regional sports networks unloaded by Disney in the wake of its Fox acquisition. As a condition of approving the $71.3 billion acquisition of 21st Century Fox assets, the U.S. Department of Justice forced Disney to sell off the RSNs in order to avoid antitrust issues given its ownership of ESPN. The 21 other RSNs are now owned by a group of investors including Sinclair and Byron Allen, with the official news of that deal landing last Friday.
Prior to the auction process for the 21 RSNs, the Yankees had exercised their right to control their own TV destiny, striking a separate deal for Yes.

Disney has finalized its sale of the Yes Network, which will be repurchased by Yankee Global Enterprises, the parent company of the New York Yankees.
The deal is for the remaining 80% stake that the Yankees didn’t already own, and is valued at $3.47 billion. Amazon is a partner in the transaction, along with Sinclair Broadcast Group. On Aug. 23, Sinclair closed a separate deal with Disney for the remaining 21 Fox regional sports networks that Disney was required to sell as part of its acquisition of 21st Century Fox’s film and TV assets.
The Yankees will be the majority shareholder with a 26% stake, while Sinclair will own 20%. Amazon has a 15% stake with the option to increase that in the coming years. Additional equity investments were provided by RedBird Capital, funds managed by Blackstone’s Tactical Opportunities business, and Mubadala Capital.

Derek Jeter, the longtime shortstop for the New York Yankees, announced that he’ll be walking away from baseball after the 2014 Mlb season.
Derek Jeter Retires
Jeter, 40, has been playing with the Yankees since 1996, when he instantly proved he was an invaluable asset. Instead of opting to prologue his storied career as a designated hitter, Jeter has decided to step away completely before he loses the strengths that have made him a sure Hall of Famer.
Jeter announced his retirement decision to fans in lengthy letter posted to his Facebook page. As could be expected, his recent spate of injuries has served to expedite his retirement.
“Last year was a tough one for me,” Jeter wrote. “As I suffered through a bunch of injuries, I realized that some of the things that always came easily to me and were always fun had started to become a struggle. The one thing...

It’s been a big week for the New York Yankees. First the team won a bidding war for Japanese pitching phenom Masahiro Tanaka. Then, today, Fox announced that it will raise its stake in the team’s Yes regional sports network to 80% from 49%. When the deal closes, expected by the end of March, Yes Network will be consolidated into Fox’s financials. The companies didn’t disclose the size of Fox’ investment; it paid $3.4B for its minority stake in 2012. But it “underscores our commitment to growing our global sports portfolio with offerings that are exceptional and unique,” says Fox Deputy COO James Murdoch. The entity that owns the baseball team — the Steinbrenner family’s Yankee Global Enterprises — will own the remaining 20% of the network. The group’s chairman, Hal Steinbrenner, says that it’s “eager to continue working with 21st Century Fox as we explore ways to take Yes to even greater heights.
