Bella Sims won an Olympic medal before her 17th birthday. Now, she’s taking a brief break from elite competition to enjoy the mundanities of life. The swimming star is the subject of Bella Sims Needs A Life, a nine-part series produced by Portal A that will drop on her official Instagram page.
As 18-year-old Sims prepares to attend the University of Florida in the fall, she’s catching up on the activities she previously put aside. In a trailer for Bella Sims Needs A Life, the titular star discusses the impact her swimming career has had on her social life. “My life is awesome,” Sims said, “but it’s not like the life of a lot of my friends. So for a week, it will be fun to have somewhat of a normal life.”
During that week, Sims will experience everything from high school prom to dog ownership. Portal A,...

Portal A has revealed nine projects it is developing as part of its $500,000 investment in experimental content. The digital-savvy production company is backing an eclectic mix of digital programs through the Moonshots program it introduced this past February.
Several of the projects in the Portal A slate will utilize emerging technologies like AI and short-form video. Nightmare Fuel, for example, is a TikTok series that will combine horror stories with AI-generated audio and visuals.
By embracing experimentation, Portal A’s Moonshots unit is taking the company “back to its innovative roots,” according to Portal A Director of Original Projects Jacob Motz. As the leader of the Moonshots program, Motz is looking to recapture the core values of a company that once produced global video game contests, upside-down cooking tutorials and shot-for-shot remakes of Abba music videos. (Portal A also produced the year-end Rewind videos alongside YouTube.)

Portal A is committing $500,000 in funding to five indie content projects this year through its Moonshots program.
Moonshots first launched in 2018 as a way for Portal A to find, fund, and produce innovative projects anchored by digital-native talent. The program’s first round of projects included pilots and social video experiments from creators including Alexis G. Zall and Mike Diva.
Producing Zall’s comedy/horror YouTube series Maybe Today, Satan as part of Moonshots “opened the door for Portal A at forward-thinking short-form platforms like Snap Originals,” Portal A tells Tubefilter.
First-round projects also included American Pathogen, a 30-minute documentary about the Trump administration’s response to Covid; The Adventures of Nunchuk Larry, an “off-the-wall action film” made in partnership with longtime YouTube creators The Gregory Brothers; and Robu, an award-winning short film directed by Portal A’s co-founder Kai Hasson.

It takes a certain amount of cachet for a comedy group to make a visual album parody centered on two Bay Area sports figures from the late ’80s. But not only did The Lonely Island pull off the concept, they turned it into the surprise Netflix launch “The Unauthorized Bash Brothers Experience.”
Andy Samberg and Akiva Schaffer star as Jose Canseco and Mark McGwire, the home run-hitting stars of the decade-capping Oakland A’s squad. Co-directed by Schaffer and Mike Diva, the half-hour special is a trippy cacophony of raps about region-specific attractions, the life of an Mlb superstar, and a nimble rundown of every team in the league following the 1993 expansion.
Now that there’s been a small amount of distance from last month’s stealth drop and with the group’s upcoming tour on the horizon, Schaffer and Samberg talked on Vulture’s Good One podcast about what their next project might be.

The Lonely Island comedy troupe has dropped a half-hour Netflix special featuring a musical tribute to baseball greats Jose Canseco and Mark McGwire.
“The Lonely Island Presents: The Unauthorized Bash Brothers Experience” features Andy Samberg and Akiva Schaffer as the former Oakland Athletics teammates who became known as “the Bash Brothers” for their prowess at hitting home runs. The special is timed to mark the 30th anniversary of the Oakland A’s 1989 championship season.
Lonely Island described the project as “a visual poem/love letter to their childhood heroes.” The special features guest appearances by from Haim, Maya Rudolph, Hannah Simone, Jenny Slate, Jim O’Heir and Sterling K Brown as Sia.
“The Unauthorized Bash Brothers Experience” is executive produced by Samberg, Schaffer, Jorma Taccone and Becky Sloviter. The special was directed by Schaffer and Mike Diva.

Comedic trio The Lonely Island have returned with a 27-minute Netflix special. Billed as a “visual poem,” The Unauthorized Bash Brothers Experience envisions a universe where baseball superstars Jose Canseco and Mark McGwire recorded a rap album in 1988.
Mike Diva and Akiva Schaffer directed the special, which stars Andy Samberg as Canseco and Schaffer as McGwire. Canseco and McGwire were known as the Bash Brothers during their seven-season run together playing for the Oakland Athletics. The nickname was inspired by their response to homeruns: bashing each other’s forearms. Years later,...

The Lonely Island — the comedy rap trio of Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone — dropped a surprise new album and an accompanying short film at Wednesday night.
And it’s not just any album, it’s basically their version of Beyonce’s “Lemonade.”
The Lonely Island’s latest album is “The Unauthorized Bash Brothers Experience,” in which Samberg and Schaffer play (for some reason) Oakland A’s sluggers Jose Canseco and Mark McGwire respectively in a goofy, ’80s-themed “visual poem.”

People who eat, take up extra space, and block the aisles on public trains and buses are the worst, but with help of a magical transit superhero, maybe we can show those people the error of their ways. That's the strategy employed by YouTube star Mike Diva, who has created a series of PSAs for the Los Angeles Metro that star fellow YouTuber Anna Akana as a Sailor Moon-style enforcer of vehicular etiquette.
The PSAs introduce the character of Super Kind, portrayed by Akana, as a fighter of evil who has a nose for improper transit conduct. In each installment of the series, Super Kind buts heads with her nemesis, Rude Dude, who displays improper train and bus behavior. In one spot, he manspreads; in another, he prevents customers from properly filing into a train car. No matter his offense, Super Kind is there to admonish him with a...

Halo Top ice cream tastes so delicious and has so few calories, it’s only fit to exist in a dystopian society. Well, maybe not, but that’s more-or-less the point being made in the modish company’s bizarre new ad.
Halo Top quickly built itself a reputation in our image-obsessed yet self-indulgent society as the go-to diet ice cream, and its appeal to ironic meme-ers and conspiracy theorists has become chillingly clear after one look at an ad that could be straight out of “Black Mirror.”
In the promotion (to be shown before feature films such as “It”and “Kingsman: The Golden Circle”), a robot force-feeds an elderly woman wearing only a loose white garment in a sterile room. The woman comes into a conscious awareness halfway through the commercial as she denies another vanilla scoop. “Humans require ice cream,” says the robot.

The Youtube channel has found viral fame with its chopped-up videos of the Us Presidential candidates, and is making satire great again in the process
In a Us election cycle of unprecedented absurdity, much of 2016’s best political comedy has simply allowed the candidates to speak for themselves. Satirist Vic Berger regularly takes unedited comments by Donald Trump and amplifies their lunacy with the aid of hyperactive visual editing and the odd airhorn sound effect. Film-maker Mike Diva’s recent viral video Hillary Clinton: Meme Queen satirised the former secretary of state’s desperation to appeal to young voters by having a lookalike instruct them to “Pokémon Go to the polls”. Believe it or not, the line was a direct quote from a recent Clinton stump speech.

Each has been assigned a timeslot for production at the La Space, where they will write, shoot, edit, and finalize their entries to be judged by del Toro himself. The Halloween sets are also available to contestants at YouTube Spaces New York, Tokyo, and London. I know I may be a little late to the game by posting this live-action Mortal Kombat fight sequence, as it came out last year but I just came across it thanks to my brother. I loved what I saw, and so I had to share it. I'm sure there are some of you who haven't seen it yet, and if you have seen it… it's a video worth seeing again. The short is called Mortal Kombat Vs. Noob Saibot, and I absolutely loved the the way the action was done. It's fast paced and incredibly entertaining, especially if you're a fan of Mortal Kombat. The short was directed by Michael Dahlquist, and I hope you enjoy the fight.

Fox got voted off just one episode before the finale, but his flamboyant look, infectious laugh and outstanding artwork made 'Eric F.' one of the most memorable contestants to ever participate in the show. Fox had nothing but positive things to say about the Syfy show and his experiences on it.

We’re doing something a little different this time. Usually the song featured in B-Sides is from a B-movie. This weekend’s B-Sides is a song made from B-movies - clips from 50 different B-movies comprising the “Grindhouse Megamix”.
Full Moon Features teamed up with YouTube producer Mike Diva and Dat Beat to create an original song composed entirely of soundbites from 50 different grindhouse movies from their collection. The result is proof that with proper autotuning, even baby-killing Nazis can dubstep their way into our musical hearts.
Can you identify all the films that have been assembled to bring the “Grindhouse Megamix” to life? If so, your b-movie knowledge is bar none.
