Bryan Cranston is clarifying his recent comments about his retirement plans. In a June 8 interview with British GQ, Cranston, 67, explained that he intends to retire in 2026 when he'll be 70. And his retirement won't just be from acting: he also wants to shut down his production company and sell his half of the mezcal tequila company he runs with "Breaking Bad" costar Aaron Paul.
"I want to change the paradigm once again," Cranston told the outlet about his decision, adding his wife, Robin Dearden, is at the center of his choice. "For the last 24 years, Robin has led her life holding onto my tail. She's been the plus one, she's been the wife of a celebrity. She's had to pivot and adjust her life based on mine. She has tremendous benefit from it, but we're uneven. I want to level that out. She deserves it."

Exclusive: Hulu has opted not to proceed with two pilots, drama Less Than Zero and comedy Search and Destroy.
They are among six recent pilots on Hulu’s slate. Of the other four, two were just picked up to series. Woke is now wrapping filming, while Sweet Tooth is heading into production in May.

Netflix has opted not to renew mockumentary comedy series American Vandal for a third season. I hear producing studio CBS TV Studios is fielding incoming interest in the Funny Or Die show from other potential buyers.
“American Vandal will not return for a third season,” Netflix said in a statement. “We’re very grateful to the creators, writers, cast and crew for bringing their innovative comedy to Netflix, and to the fans and critics who embraced its unique and unconventional humor.”
True-crime satire American Vandal, CBS TV Studios’ first series for an outside streaming service, had flown under the radar with a modest budget and cast of largely unknown young actors in its first season to become a top binge-watched show for Netflix and earn an Emmy nomination and a Peabody Award.

[Note: The following interview contains spoilers for the ending of “American Vandal” Season 2.]
What’s the key to crafting an effective close to an eight-part season, one that not only delivers a logical conclusion to its central mystery while delivering an insightful message about all the players involved?
As the team behind “American Vandal” can attest — having now done it twice — part of the secret is finding the best possible people to be in front of the camera
“It’s very important to us to not stunt cast because we don’t want faces to take us out of the world, but when you get into actual casting, it really just does become who had the best audition and who’s the most real,” series co-creator Tony Yacenda told IndieWire. “That’s what DeRon [Horton] and Taylor Dearden and Travis Tope did. These were people who we felt were the most honest version of the characters. The most important thing is to get the best actors.

If Netflix’s American Vandal wasn’t the greatest show of 2017, it was the most surprisingly great. A mockumentary from a largely unknown cast and creative team, it managed to keep the joke of its premise — two high school Av nerds doggedly pursue the truth about who spray-painted 27 dicks on 27 cars in the faculty parking lot — tumescently hilarious throughout. More importantly, all the dick humor gradually rose to point at something deeper and sadder as the series considered the lives of all the kids featured in the fake film. It...

A staid Catholic school is upended by a mass pooping in the hilarious new trailer for Season Two of Netflix’s true-crime satire, American Vandal.
The clip opens with a dramatic recreation of the anonymous prankster’s opening salvo: Spiking the cafeteria lemonade and causing the entire student body to poop themselves simultaneously. After a string of similar scatalogical stunts, the students at the elite prep school enlist American Vandal‘s meta-documentarians, Peter Maldonado (Tyler Alvarez) and Sam Ecklund (Griffin Gluck), to investigate the crimes and unmask the so-called “Turd Burglar.

Brad Morris (Great News), Leah Harvey (On the Road), Jessica Hecht (Red Oaks) and Imogen Tear (When Calls the Heart) have been cast opposite Taylor Dearden and Aubrey Peoples in Hulu comedy pilot Search and Destroy, from Portlandia co-creator Carrie Brownstein and Annapurna Television.
Written and directed by Brownstein, Search and Destroy is loosely based on Brownstein’s best-selling memoir Hunger Makes Me A Modern Girl. It’s centered around Karen Wolff (Dearden), a 22-year-old from the suburbs of the Pacific Northwest. Karen’s unstable childhood has left her feeling disconnected and like a perpetual outsider, so she attempts to find a sense of belonging through creativity and community. Set in the feminist and fiercely independent punk scene of the 1990s, Search and Destroy explores notions of identity, artistic and sexual awakenings, friendship and family. It is music however, and its transformative powers, that permeates and propels the story.

“30 Rock” (NBC, Netflix)
Did we fully appreciate the gift we had in Tina Fey’s absurdist take on life behind the scenes of a sketch comedy show, while it was on the air? Maybe not, but here’s what matters: “30 Rock” was one of the most original, bizarre, hilarious and unapologetically female shows of its time, and it holds up damn well.

As the fate of MTV's Sweet/Vicious hangs in the balance, here's why TV in 2017 needs many more female voices calling the shots...
If you haven’t heard about Sweet/Vicious, the new comedy/superhero series airing on MTV in the Us, then you’re seriously missing out.

Dishearteningly, despite a growing cult following based on word of mouth, there’s been a distinct lack of noise around the show since it premiered. As of writing this it's ‘on the bubble’ and facing possible cancellation as MTV re-evaluates its scripted drama efforts, and there’s no word of a UK air date. All of this has the potential to limit the number of eyeballs that fall upon the show,...

Imagine if Veronica Mars and her trusty sidekick Mac became secret vigilantes against sexual assault.
That could have been the sales pitch for MTV’s Sweet/Vicious, which follows rape survivor Jules (played by Broadchurch‘s Eliza Bennett), an unassuming sorority sister who teams with hacker extraordinaire Ophelia (Taylor Dearden) to pummel sex offenders twice their size.

MTV's Sweet/Vicious is a frank, grounded exploration of a harrowing subject. Here's our episode 1 review...
This review contains spoilers.
1.1 The Blueprint
Sweet/Vicious, MTV's latest attempt at a mainstream hit to match outgoing shows Teen Wolf and Faking It, begins with a masked vigilante beating and threatening a college student in his dorm room. Complete with voice-changer and noble cause, this could be a scene from any number of superhero series on television. The twist? The assailant is a tiny, blonde sorority girl, and her target is a rapist.
Campus rape is a subject that has been creeping into television at a disappointingly slow pace. Veronica Mars spent a whole half-season on it back in 2007, and last year Switched At Birth tackled it with grace and thoughtfulness (I'm sure there are more examples I'm unaware of). Of course, Netflix's Jessica Jones was also a breakthrough moment for exploring consent on screen.

Two episodes were provided prior to broadcast.
More often than not, MTV’s sleek high-quality production values and tragically attractive talent pool works overtime in negating the “edgy” content its scripted department has run toward since Teen Wolf became a hit. That show, lest anyone forget, began much the same way: polished to a mirror shine, but without much beating beneath its six-pack-abs-strewn DVD cover art. It’s taken years for it to become something special and intricately layered, finally embracing – and elevating – the MTV-ness of it all.
Some shows on the network start out with a more assured, self-aware grasp (The Shannara Chronicles), and some simply feel like slowly unfurling wastes (Scream). MTV’s newest crack at shocking the millennial set enough to tweet out a hashtag is Sweet/Vicious, and I’m very happy to report that it falls far closer to the former group than the latter.
