The Jeff Mauro-hosted Food Network cooking competition series “Kitchen Crash” will be back with a second season, comprising four episodes, beginning July 12 at 10 p.m. Et/Pt.
“Kitchen Crash” will see the former “Sandwich King” host return to “crash” a local neighborhood block party in a chosen suburb, with three professional chefs in tow surprising attendees with an outdoor cookoff. In each hour-long episode, the culinary experts have only 10 minutes to convince residents to hand over food from their fridge and pantry — enough to fill one bin — as ingredients to use in the competition. The chef who prevails will earn a cash prize of 10,000 to split with the family who provided the ingredients.
“No two pantries or fridges in America are alike, making the ingredients in the bins as varied as they can possibly be,” Mauro said in a statement. “The chefs must be able to communicate effectively with...

Food Network’s star chefs not only serve up delicious recipes, but they also link food with emotion and something deeper to which the audience can connect. The subsequent economic turmoil also threw into sharp relief widespread food insecurity across the U.S. The Food Network is not new to this revelation and has been working for years to end hunger in this country. Well-known chefs such as José Andrés continue their miraculous work via World Central Kitchen, Guy Fieri feeds first responders in California and Marc Murphy serves on the council of City Harvest. The week foodies have been waiting for has finally arrived -- at least in Canada. Lucky Americans already know who won the $50,000 for their charity in the final episode of "Chopped: All-Stars" (which aired Sunday night in the U.S.) but I've avoided any and all spoilers leading up to Tuesday's Canadian finale.
The final four consists of Michael Symon (who beat out fellow Iron Chefs Cat Cora, Marc Forgione and Jose Garces), Jeffrey Saad (who took on Aarti Sequeira, Keegan Gerhard and Marcela Valladolid), Penny Davidi (who battled former "Next Food Network Star" contestants Vic "Vegas" Moea, Chris Nirschel and Justin Balmes) and Marcus Samuelsson (who, along with fellow judges Chris Santos, Marc Murphy and Alex Guarnaschelli, got to see what it felt like on the other side of the "Chopped" kitchen).
Who else was cheering for Alex? No offence to Marcus (or Chris and Marc), but I've always been a fan of Alex.

Chef Marc Murphy's passion for food and his chosen industry is so abiding that he calls to discuss it from a Utah ski resort during a family vacation. Turns out Murphy has a little time on his hands -- and he calls so he doesn't wind up with one in a cast.
"I have a broken bone in my wrist, and it's got to heal," Murphy tells Zap2it. "I can't mess it up because I kinda need this hand, and I don't want to end up having to go to surgery!"
As the proprietor of New York's popular Benchmarc restaurant group and Benchmarc Events catering company, and an empathetic judge on Food Network's much-loved Tuesday staple "Chopped," Murphy is a wizard at time management -- and making folks happy.
