Riaz-ur-Rehman Saghar was a prominent film song lyricist in Pakistan. He was born in Bathinda, Punjab, British India. His family migrated to Pakistan after the independence of Pakistan in 1947. He was a self-made man who lost his father to violence during 1947. Young Saghar was forced to make a living doing labor work to support his mother. He finished his schooling in Multan and then moved to Lahore in 1957. His passion for poetry drove him to the film world. He wrote over 2000 film songs over a span of nearly 40 year professional career as a song writer. Once one prominent film critic said that sometimes he could write a film song in 10 to 15 minutes no matter how noisy it was. He would write his lyrics after a lot of thought and an understanding of the situation in the film. He had won much recognition and many awards for his work in his lifetime. He died of cancer at age 71 in Lahore, Pakistan.
