"The Canyons" is one of the two buzzed about comeback vehicles for Lindsay Lohan (the other is the Lifetime Elizabeth Taylor biopic "Liz & Dick"), but you wouldn't know it from the first just-released trailer for the Bret Easton Ellis penned and Paul Schrader directed film. Why's that? Becuase neither she, nor her headlining co-star, porn sensation James Deen, make an appearance in the preview. What the trailer does consist of are endless establishing shots of Los Angeles, blandly cut together by cinematographer Joey Fantastico (yes, that's his name), that resemble the opening credit sequence for MTV's now defunct reality series "The Hills." At least there's the haunting Dum Dum Girls song "Coming Down" to add some sense of mood to the two-minute-plus affair. Cut together by cinematographer Joey Fantastico, the teaser for "The Canyons" looks like the opening credits to an MTV docu-series, but unfortunately doesn't feature either high-profile cast member.
The clip -- which gets some added emotional lift courtesy of the Dum Dum Girls song "Coming Down" -- was possibly filmed in and around Los Angeles in May (at least judging from the posters for May releases "Dark Shadows" and "Bernie" that litter the frame). Filming on "The Canyons" is underway now and ends July 31.
