For years, Bravo has had a lock on the traditional reality series with its Real Housewives universe, a franchise that has spawned 12 shows, nine of which are still on the air, as well as 25 standalone spinoffs.
But over the last year or two, The Walt Disney Company has been quietly building its own reality world, particularly on Hulu, one that it hopes can rival the NBCUniversal cabler, leaning into prettier young things that can flit between shows and flirt between casts.
This was evidenced by Hulu’s Get Real event on Tuesday night at Casa Lago – a sprawling estate in Beverly Hills with a private lake and polo arena – that saw cast members of shows such as The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, The Kardashians, Love Thy Nader and Got To Get Out mix with the likes of Call Her Daddy’s Alex Cooper, executive producer of boat dating show Overboard For Love,...

Audrina Patridge is recalling the terrifying moment she locked herself in her closet after being targeted by the infamous Bling Ring burglars.
During a recent appearance on the Broad Ideas with Rachel Bilson & Olivia Allen podcast, The Hills star and The O.C. alum realized they were both among the celebrities that were targeted by a group of five Los Angeles teenagers and 20-somethings, dubbed the “Bling Ring,” who went on a crime spree from 2008 to 2009.
“They took trash bags of stuff,” Patridge said. “They knew I was at an Oscars party, and they knew that because I tweeted it, but then I had cameras and my cameras are the ones that caught their [Nick Prugo and Rachel Lee] faces and I posted it on my website, and said if anyone knows of these people let me know.”

In 2008, comedy writer Dan Levy met supposed sisters Alexis Neiers and Tess Taylor on the set of a low-budget teen movie. Intrigued by their wild shenanigans and backgrounds, the young up-and-comer thought the girls would be perfect for the burgeoning reality TV world. They threw together a sizzle reel, shopped it around, and E! snapped it up to fit among its existing reality portfolio that included Keeping Up With The Kardashians and Girls Next Door. Levy would get a rude awakening on the second day of filming, when Neiers was unexpectedly arrested and a multitude of truths would come to light; these girls were not in their twenties, they were not really sisters, and it turned out they had been keeping some pretty big secrets. Little did he know that he had not only brought about a minor cultural event in the form of Pretty Wild, but that his stars...

The story of Alexis Haines’ entanglement with a circle of Los Angeles-area home invaders has been told multiple times over: In the reporting of Nancy Jo Sales, who profiled her for Vanity Fair in 2010; on her own reality show, “Pretty Wild,” which aired on E! in 2010; and in Sofia Coppola’s 2013 film “The Bling Ring,” based on Sales’ work. Now, Haines (formerly Alexis Neiers), along with former associate Nick Norgo (formerly Nick Prugo), attempts to set the record straight in the Netflix documentary series “The Real Bling Ring: Hollywood Heist.”
The three-episode series sheds little light, and bulks out its running time with idle musings on fame that feel warmed over from the early 2010s. It’s not that Haines’ and Norgo’s stories, told with both respective parties’ permission in this doc, don’t have inherent interest: Both of them became entranced by the concept of celebrity and, as...

Nancy Jo Sales, someone is still talking about your story. More than 12 years ago, Alexis Neiers delivered an unforgettable phone call to the Vanity Fair journalist who was investigating her involvement in the bling ring. While the unscripted moment, captured by Pretty Wild cameras, resulted in countless memes, Alexis still doesn't think fondly of the reporter who she says mischaracterized her story. "I don't think Nancy Jo is capable of being honest with herself and her motives, still to this day," Alexis exclusively shared with E! News. Joel McHale is back on E! and better than ever. The actor and comedian made his triumphant E! hosting return on the new series Celebrity Beef earlier this month. But the funnyman was an E! mainstay for over a decade before he helped celebs squash their beef on the cooking competition show. McHale hosted the long-running pop culture talk show The Soup from 2004 to 2015. Whether he was cracking jokes about TV's wildest moments, hanging with a colorful cast of characters or poking fun at other E! shows and the network itself, his comedic wit and charming personality established him as one of the funniest hosts on television. The recent push to rebrand corporate logos to be more inclusive has, for the most part, been a good thing. Making Barbie more body-positive? Great. Renaming Aunt Jemima syrup? About damn time. Yet in brands’ fervent quest to capture youth audiences and capture the woke zeitgeist, they may be going just a little bit too far. Case in point: the slut-shaming of the green M&m.
Essentially, this is what happened: the CEO of Mars Wrigley, the company that makes M&Ms, announced today that it would be revamping the characters...

Channel 4 has ordered a three-part documentary re-examining the infamous Bling Ring gang who burgled the Hollywood homes of the rich and famous in the mid-2000s.
In a prolonged crime spree, the criminals — who turned out to be a bunch of middle class teenagers — struck fear into the hearts of young Hollywood between 2008 and 2009 by breaking into their homes, stealing their designer duds and even, in one case, using their bathrooms.
Among those burglarized were Paris Hilton, Orlando Bloom, Lindsay Lohan and Rachel Bilson who lost jewelry, watches, purses and shoes in the heists.
A Vanity Fair article about the thieving teens was turned into a book and eventually a film by Sofia Coppola, starring Emma Watson as Alexis Neiers (pictured), the perceived leader of the gang.

This June, E! turns 30! To celebrate we're looking back at the most monumental moments in pop culture. From Pretty Wild to pretty mild! That is a quick summary of Alexis Neiers and her family's journey since their E! reality series Pretty Wild aired 10 years ago, running for one season in 2010. The show chronicled Alexis, her sister Gabby Neiers and close friend Tess Taylor attempting to make their way into the Hollywood scene, led by their mom, Andrea Arlington. But what was supposed to be a docu-series about the girls' rise to fame ended up becoming a completely different show after Alexis, then 18, was arrested during the first episode for her involvement in the "Bling Ring"...

"Have a nice life... goodbye." Those were the last (infamous) words reality TV star and soon-to-be convicted felon, Alexis Neiers, said to journalist, Nancy Jo Sales, after reading a profile of herself on Vanity Fair in March 2010. For those who didn't watch Pretty Wild on E!, follow the "Bling Ring" burglars, who stole from the rich and famous and were convicted of robbery, or see Sofia Coppola's 2013 film based on the high-profile case, then here's a refresher. Back in mid-2008 and early 2009, Calabasas teens burglarized celebrity homes, including Orlando Bloom, Audrina Patridge, Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Ashley Tisdale and more. Bravo's Real Housewives of Orange County isn't a stranger to injections, but next season there might be a whole different kind of one: an injection of humor. Emma Watson might be a huge movie star, but she's not your typical Hollywood starlet -- and she has nothing in common with the materialistic and fame-obsessed teens who inspired the characters in her movie "The Bling Ring."
So to get into character, (which was based on real-life Bling Ring member Alexis Neiers) Watson tried her hand at method acting and created a horrifying Tumblr for her character, reports Styleite.
Called "NickiMooreForever," the 16-post Tumblr was created in March 2012, and it does a great job of showing Watson's contempt for Neiers. She opted for a brilliantly tack zebra-print background, penned ramblings that close with the word "Namaste" and even authored fawning posts about Lindsay Lohan, Angelina Jolie and Audrina Patridge. We could have sworn Neiers wrote it herself if we didn't know better.

Many Hollywood actresses have sprawling closets with piles and piles of fabulous footwear—but Bling Ring star Emma Watson goes against the grain with only eight, count 'em, eight pairs to her name. The actress, who covers the August issue of Teen Vogue, reveals in a recent Radio Times interview that her shoe closet is not the colossal Louboutin kingdom that exists in Paris Hilton's home (and she would know—certain scenes for The Bling Ring were filmed in Hilton's closet). "I've got about eight pairs of shoes and that's it," she admitted. This revelation is in stark contrast to the character Watson plays in the film, based on former Pretty Wild star Alexis...

Emma Watson has admitted that she was uncomfortable studying reality shows in preparation to star in The Bling Ring.
Watson has previously spoken about watching TV series like The Hills and Keeping Up with the Kardashians in order to accurately portray a celebrity-obsessed burglar in her new film.
In an interview with Rookie, the actress discussed her discomfort while watching real-life 'Bling Ring' member Alexis Neiers's short-lived reality show Pretty Wild.
"To be fair to Alexis, [my character] is like three steps removed from who she might be in real life," Watson explained. "A lot of the material in the movie was based on an article, which was based on a reality show, which we all know isn't real life."
She continued: "I wasn't trying to impersonate her - she just inspired the character. I watched Pretty Wild so many times to try and get her into my brain, though. It gave me anxiety.

Alexis Neiers has claimed that she has not seen The Bling Ring, the film that dramatises her involvement in a string of burglaries at celebrity homes.
Neiers slated Sofia Coppola's film as "trashy and inaccurate" prior to The Bling Ring's release and insisted that it was not a fair portrayal of her life.
However, speaking to E! News, the former Pretty Wild star said she has been too busy to actually see The Bling Ring.
"With an 8-week-old baby there's just no way," Neiers commented.
She added: "I would go and see it [eventually]. I have to remind myself that it's a dramatisation of actual events and people are like, 'Are you going to be upset by it?' Honestly, no, I'm in a good place now, so why not have a laugh at myself."

With its stranger-than-fiction details, celebrity victims and teenage perpetrators (two of whom had their own reality show, "Pretty Wild") the so-called Bling Ring was practically tailor-made for Hollywood. "The Bling Ring" marks Chang's feature debut, and alongside Emma Watson and fellow newcomer Israel Broussard, they retrace the teens' crime spree, ransacking the houses of Paris Hilton, Megan Fox, Lindsay Lohan and others by taking advantage of gossip blogs, Google Maps and some seriously lax home security.

When Sofia Coppola's "The Bling Ring" hits movie theaters nationwide this weekend, all eyes will be on Emma Watson, who plays Nicki, one of a group of Los Angeles teens accused of breaking into celebrity houses and stealing upwards of $3 million worth of property.
Watson's character is based on now 21-year-old new mom Alexis Neiers, whose legal trials and tribulations were documented on the 2010 E! reality series "Pretty Wild," which also starred her younger sister Gabby Neiers, her mother Andrea Arlington and their adoptive family member and fellow model Tess Taylor (who inspired the "Bling Ring" character Sam, played by Taissa Farmiga).

Sofia Coppola’s latest film, The Bling Ring, premieres in the U.S. on June 21. Inspired by real-life events that took place in 2008-09, The Bling Ring tells the story of a group of teenagers obsessed with fashion and celebrity who burglarize celebrities’ homes in Los Angeles. Although the film is a fictionalized account of the events, the main characters are based on actual participants. Star Emma Watson plays a character based somewhat on Alexis Neiers, who eventually pled no contest to felony residential burglary, and was sentenced to a jail term of 180 days, with an additional three years of [...]

"Pretty Wild" is returning to E! in celebration of "The Bling Ring."
The network will air a marathon of the 2010 reality series that followed Alexis Neiers, Tess Taylor, Gabby Neiers and their mom Andrea Arlington, on Friday, June 21, the same day Sofia Coppola's "The Bling Ring" hits theaters nationwide.
The two-hour "Pretty Wild" marathon will feature episodes that follow Neiers' legal issues in regards to her alleged involvement with the group of teenagers who burglarized homes of celebrities from October 2008 through August 2009. The group reportedly stole $3 million in cash and belongings from figures such as Paris Hilton, Orlando Bloom and Rachel Bilson.
Coppola wrote and directed the film based on Nancy Jo Sales’s 2010 Vanity Fair story, "The Suspects Wore Louboutins," the one that prompted one of the most famous moments in reality TV history. (Neiers claimed she wore "four-inch little brown Bebe shoes" to court, not six-inch Louboutins.

By this point, everybody and their former lingerie model mother knows that Sofia Coppola's "The Bling Ring" is based on a true story. What they may not know, however, is that the truer true story, told in journalist Nancy Jo Sales' reportorial book "The Bling Ring" (expanded from her original Vanity Fair article "The Suspects Wore Louboutins") is even wilder than the drug-fueled, celebrity-obsessed months depicted in Coppola's film.

As The Bling Ring opens today, it’s important that we don’t forget the film’s roots. In 2010, Vanity Fair’s Nancy Jo Sales wrote a brilliant exposé on the trial and trivialities of the real-life teen thieves who stole from Hollywood’s rich and famous. Alexis Neiers — the unwitting star of the story, later the intentional star of E!’s train wreck reality show Pretty Wild — was “petrified” by how Sales represented her in the piece and called the journalist to unload.

Kim Kardashian, an object of study? If you're Emma Watson, then yes.
According to "Bling Ring" director Sofia Coppola, British actress Watson marathoned "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" in preparation for her role in the film, now in theaters.
"I think she watched a lot of 'Kardashians' to get a Calabasas accent," Coppola dished to E! News at the Women in Film Crystal + Lucy Awards on June 12. "And she watched 'Pretty Wild' and she immersed herself into all of that."
Watson's "Bling Ring" character, Nicki, is based on Alexis Neiers, one of the stars of "Pretty Wild," an E! reality series that aired after the Bling Ring's illegal exploits came to light.
"I think she did an incredible job with the accent, it's really specific," Coppola gushed. "She's such a Californian, it's very Calabasas."
Reality TV -- good for more than just guilty-pleasure viewing and 15 minutes of fame.

Sofia Coppola's The Bling Ring hits theaters today, June 14, and as we all know it's based on the real-life group of fame-obsessed teenagers who tracked down celebrities' whereabouts in order to rob their homes. Emma Watson takes on the role of Nicki, a character that is assumed to be modeled after former E! reality show star Alexis Neiers. So, before you run off to see this "based on a true story" flick, you must watch this obscene scene from Neiers and her family's Pretty Wild program.
If you missed this E! show, it was only on for one season in 2010, cameras followed Alexis around during the time she was being charged for robbing celebrity homes. In what was one of the more memorable scenes, Alexis, 19 at the time, calls Vanity Fair contributor Nancy Jo Sales to express her disappointment after reading the article written about her.

If you live in New York City or Los Angeles, today is the day: "The Bling Ring" is finally here. (Sorry, rest of the country, you'll have to wait until next week for the movie to go wide, but until then you can content yourself with reviews and our wall-to-wall coverage.)
We're more obsessed with this story of teenage celebutante wannabes-turned-burglars than said teens were with, well, Paris Hilton. And they stole Paris Hilton's used underpinnings, so that says a lot about how into this we are.
Before writer-director Sofia Coppola, spawn of Hollywood royalty herself, perked up and turned the real-life story of Valley Girl (and guy) thieves into a feature film, there was Nancy Jo Sales' Vanity Fair article, "The Suspects Wore Louboutins," detailing the alleged crimes of real-life Bling Ringers Nick Prugo, Alexis Neiers, Rachel Lee and their friends. Think Emma Watson's accent in the Bling Ring sounds familiar? That's because the Harry Potter star's voice in the new flick was semi-inspired by Kim Kardashian, Kourtney Kardashian and Khloé Kardashian Odom! "I thought she did an incredible job transforming herself and she really took it seriously studying her accent," Bling Ring director Sofia Coppola told us of Watson's valley-girl persona in the flick at last night's Women in Film Crystal + Lucy Awards. "I think she watched a lot of Kardashians to get a Calabasas accent," Coppola said of Watson, who of course plays a character based on former E! star Alexis Neiers. Based on their social media personas, Katie Chang and Israel Broussard are just like most other 18 year olds. They post photos of food, offer shout-outs to friends and express professions of love toward Daft Punk. They are, of course, not like most other 18 year olds, by sheer virtue of the fact that Chang and Broussard play the lead roles in Sofia Coppola's new film, "The Bling Ring."
The latest in a recent trend of movies about the American dream gone wrong (see also "Spring Breakers" and "Pain & Gain"), "The Bling Ring" focuses on a group of teenagers who rob from the houses of Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan, Orlando Bloom and other celebrities simply because they can. Sofia Coppola's new movie The Bling Ring is officially based on a Vanity Fair article by Nancy Jo Sales. But there are so many moments yanked directly from the short-lived E! reality series Pretty Wild that you'll wonder whether the movie was secretly inspired by some sort of late-night Netflix Instant binge Coppola is too embarrassed to cop to. Pretty Wild, which aired in 2010 (and was produced, oddly enough, by Chelsea Handler), was intended to follow 19-year-old Alexis Neiers as she lived a glamorous party-girl life on the fringe of the Hollywood club circuit. But then real life intervened: In the very first episode, Neiers is arrested for crimes connected to the Bling Ring, the gang of larcenous teens who stole from celebrities like Paris Hilton and Orlando Bloom.Suddenly, the manufactured reality of these Kardashian-emulating lifestyle shows begins to rub up against the very definite reality of a...

Doing research for a role can be tough. The sweet and innocent Emma Watson had to step out of her comfort zone for her role in Sofia Coppola's Bling Ring, where she plays a character inspired by reality star Alexis Neiers, so she decided to do her research: Watch Neiers in her reality show, Pretty Wild. But it wasn't the best of times for Watson. During an interview with Rookie magazine, the actress was asked, "Have you heard from her [Neiers] about the film or anything?" Watson responded, "No, I haven't. To be fair to Alexis, [my character] is like three steps removed from who she might be in real life. A lot of the material in the movie was based on an article, which was...

Emma Watson's latest role is a far cry from the innocence of her "Harry Potter" days when she played the capable teacher's pet, Hermione Granger.
The 23-year-old actress is featured in the highly anticipated upcoming film "The Bling Ring," which tells the real story of a group of California teenagers who made a habit of breaking into the homes of celebrities and stealing from them. Watson plays a character based on real-life Bling Ring member Alexis Neiers, a young woman who was involved in the stealing ring and did a stint in jail.
Neiers, who had her own television show on E! called "Pretty Wild," spoke about being played by Watson.
“I’m really happy Emma is playing me," Neiers said, The Sun reports. "I think she is a very talented actress and this will be a big change for her as I am definitely nothing like Hermione Granger.

"It seemed like something somebody would make up," author Nancy Jo Sales says on the phone from her New York home. "If you had pitched this as a movie, nobody would've bought it. It would've been too unbelievable." But the story of a bunch of young suburbanites who burglarized a string of celebrity homes in 2008 and '09 did happen. And somebody did buy it — director Sofia Coppola, whose upcoming film "The Bling Ring" (out June 14) is inspired by the Hollywood crime spree. It's also the subject of Sales' new book, likewise titled "The Bling Ring."

Cannes, France -- Emma Watson is reveling in her post-"Potter" freedom at the Cannes Film Festival, relishing a Valley Girl role far from her wise-beyond-her-years Hermione.
The 23-year-old "Harry Potter" actress stars in Sofia Coppola's "The Bling Ring," which premiered Thursday at the French Riviera festival. The British actress plays a celebrity-obsessed, thickly accented Los Angeles teenager who, with a group of friends, burgles Hollywood stars such as Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan.
At Cannes, Watson told reporters that while she remains proud of her work on the "Potter" films, they now feel long ago.
"I'm not trying to run away from it," she said. "I've just had an amazing three or four years. I'm really re-enjoying having the chance to transform into new roles and work with new creative people."

Though she's gone from reality TV, to jail, and back, Alexis Neiers is now starting a joyous chapter in her life after welcoming a baby girl on Wednesday (April 24).
On Friday, the "Pretty Wild" star tweeted, "Happy to say that our baby girl was born on Wednesday. We are both happy and healthy!”
Alexis married her husband, Evan Haines in 2012. She later added on Twitter, "I feel like I have not slept for days but I am sooooo blissed oouuuttt.”

Based on the theatrical trailer, it's easy to have high hopes for Sofia Coppola's upcoming film, "The Bling Ring." Not everyone, however, is excited.
Alexis Neiers, one of the real-life thieves who broke into the homes of celebrities -- including Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and Orlando Bloom -- on which the film is based, apparently has no intention of watching Emma Watson portray her as a character named Nicki.
While responding to a tweet from Los Angeles Times writer, Amy Kaufman, Neiers wrote that after seeing the trailer, she thinks the film is "trashy and inaccurate."
In a series of tweets the former "Pretty Wild" star, wrote that the film is based on the accounts of Lapd Detective Brett Goodkin and Vanity Fair writer Nancy Joe Sales -- who penned the 2010 article that dubbed Neiers and her friends as "The Bling Ring" -- "2 people who are everything they accused us of being.

Emma Watson's "Bling Ring" look has already been spied by the paparazzi (nice lower-back tattoo, EmWats!), but the actress took it upon herself to offer fans an extensive peek at her very un-Hermione-like character, the rebellious Nicki.
