"Time passes and suddenly you realize, 'this is it.'" Vertical Entertainment has revealed an official trailer for an indie film titled The Road to Galena, which will be out to watch starting this July. The film is another of these "what if you had everything, but you still felt something was missing?" kind of existential dramas. Power lawyer Cole Baird has all the trappings of success, but behind the façade, he’s crippled by a career he never wanted and a dream left behind. He now has a choice to make: continue a life of emptiness or follow the path to happiness back to his small, rural hometown. "A touching story of one man's quiet desperation giving way to fulfillment; a story that motivates us to travel our own roads toward a more meaningful life." The film stars Ben Winchell as Cole, Will Brittain, Jay O. Sanders, Jill Hennessy,...

When the teaser trailer for the upcoming Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody hit the Internet in May, the entire world finally got to see Mr. Robot star Rami Malek’s stunning transformation into Freddie Mercury. What they didn’t see was the long, torturous journey this movie took before filming wrapped – which included casting dilemmas that went extremely public, the near impossible task of cramming the entire saga of a legendary rock band into a two-hour movie and the departure of director Bryan Singer near the end of the production. “It was frustrating,...

For several years now, two of the most financially successful film franchises have been the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Michael Bay’s Transformers series. Those films have cumulatively earned $10.2 billion and $3.8 billion, respectively. So one can’t really blame the folks over at Mattel and Dolphin Entertainment for hoping to combine the superhero storytelling of the former with the built-in appeal of a long-running toy line. Unfortunately, Max Steel reveals just how ill-conceived this approach is in telling an effective story.
Based on the Mattel toys (as well as the 2000 and 2013 animated series they inspired), the film stars Ben Winchell as Max McGrath, a teenage boy who soon begins experiencing dangerous energy bursts when he and his mother (Maria Bello) move back to his hometown, where tragedy occurred years earlier. Before long, the truth begins to unravel, and Max encounters a bizarre creature named Steel (voiced by Silicon Valley‘s...

Even tweens may find themselves underwhelmed by the new live-action film based on what — for many of them — may be their favorite Mattel action figure. Delivering a bland cinematic origin story which seems calculated to boost Christmas toy sales, Max Steel is a stillborn, would-be franchise starter, sneaked into multiplexes without advance critic screenings. The story revolves around sixteen-year-old Max McGrath (Ben Winchell, perfect for posters on teenage girls' walls), who moves to a new town with his widowed mother Molly (Maria Bello). Max's scientist father was killed years earlier in an industrial accident that may or

Max Steel hits theaters October 14th, and the new trailer offers up a film that feels, perhaps appropriately, like a throwback.
In an age when audiences find themselves forced into conflict over their response to the endless reboots, sequels of long-dead franchises, and adaptations that ultimately make no sense (because things like The Lego Movie come along and blow them away), Max Steel still might not be the toy you were expecting to see on the big screen.
There may be a lot of reasons for that, including the fact that the line of toys doesn’t seem to take up half an aisle at your local store, and that the original TV show came out in 2000 (with a direct-to-video movie coming out almost every year since, until the show’s reboot in 2013), but the name isn’t in heavy rotation on any of the channels your kids force you to watch.

Open Road Films and Mattel have released the first domestic trailer for their upcoming live-action adaptation of Max Steel. The movie is based on Mattle's action figure line and animated series from the late '90s/early 2000s. This latest trailer is a lot better than the last international trailer that was released about a week ago. That thing was a mess, but this one is cut together so much better. You actually get a sense of what is going on and what the film is about. That being said, I'm still not sold on Max Steel. That first trailer left a bad taste in my mouth. I need to see more.
I have hope that it will be good, though, mostly because the script was written by Christopher Yost. He is the screenwriter of films such as Hulk Vs., Thor: The Dark World, and Thor: Ragnarok. I've also enjoyed his work on X-Men: Evolution,...

We first got word that Max Steel, the big screen adaption of Mattel’s popular line of action figures, was coming our way in 2009, but expired rights, original star Taylor Lautner jumping ship to headline another movie based on a toy (Stretch Armstrong if you’re wondering), and not knowing when to actually release it kept the movie on the shelf till now. Production finished at the start of Summer 2014, but we’re only now getting our first trailer and an October 21st release (in America. We’re still waiting to hear about this side of the pond). The movie is an original story through and through, with teenager Max McGrath (Ben Winchell) moving back to the town where he was born, where he is blasted with a mysterious energy while looking into the secret past of his father, who died shortly after Max was born. Discovering he can now manipulate energy,...

"Max - you can use your energy in many different ways: you can run faster, be stronger." Another toy movie! Open Road Films has debuted the official Us trailer for the Max Steel movie, adapted from one of Mattel's popular line of toys. The movie is about the adventures of teenager Max McGrath, played by Ben Winchell, and his alien companion Steel - when they combine powers they become "Max Steel". The movie also features Josh Brener, Ana Villafane, Andy Garcia, Maria Bello and Mike Doyle. The villain seems to be some other weird alien force that comes after Steel and the people of Earth. This is some serious sci-fi and I'm glad they don't hold back in that aspect, but the rest of it seems a bit too cheesy for my tastes. I have no connection to the toys, but I kind of wish this looked better than it does,...

Max Steel is an in-depth “origin” story packed with captivating characters and fast-paced action. The plot chronicles the adventures of Max McGrath and his mother have just moved back to Copper Canyon, the town in which Max’s scientist father died in a mysterious accident shortly after Max was born. As Max adjusts to his new school, things get complicated when his body starts to generate strange energy flare-ups that he can’t control.
At first a confusing mix of inconvenient and exhilarating, this unpredictable power eventually grows too intense for Max to handle, causing him to distance himself from those around him including the girl he likes, Sofia. Eventually the energy pushes...

The previously released Japanese trailer for Max Steel introduced us to the main characters, but this longer U.S. version gives us a much better idea of what to expect when the movie hits theaters on October 21. There's also the added bonus of being able to understand what's being said this time - though, to be honest, some of the dialogue on display may make you wish you didn't. The story revolves around 16-year-old (yes, obvioulsy 22-year-old actor Ben Winchell is playing a teenager) Max McGrath and his alien pal Steel, who combine their powers to become the "turbo-charged superhero Max Steel." Check out the new trailer below and let us know what you think. Based on a toy and animated series, the film chronicles the adventures of 16-year old Max McGrath (Winchell) and alien companion Steel, who must harness and combine their tremendous new powers to evolve into the turbo-charged superhero Max Steel.

Mattel action figure and superhero Max Steel gets his first feature film this year. Here's the first trailer to prove it...
If such disparate movies as Robosapien, Battleship and Jem And The Holograms have anything in common, it's that they all prove that not every movie based on a toy or board game can be a roaring success like Michael Bay's Transformers franchise. Bay's robot action movies may be bullet-proof when it comes to reviews, but audiences don't always turn out in huge numbers to see a film based on a familiar name.
This might explain why, following a development period which began way back in 2009, the marketing for Max Steel feels rather apologetic. Based on Mattel's 90s line of action figures, the movie's an origin story about Max McGrath (Ben Winchell), a young man with extraordinary powers of speed and strength.

"Protect him. He's the only thing that matters." Originally scheduled for release in 2015, this latest sci-fi toy adaptation is now arriving in theaters October 2016. "It’s very much designed to be grounded within the teen experience," said Hendler about the new film:
"'Max Steel' is an origin story following 'Max McGrath' who suddenly begins generating massive energy bursts from his body. Max meets a 'techno-organic' alien named 'Steel' and the two form a symbiotic bond that keeps their individual energies under control..."
"Neither of them can live without the other," said Hendler, "and they drive each other crazy. But when they work together, they can actually be something cool..."
Created internally by Mattel, the "Max Steel" franchise spans multi-platform entertainment, toys and consumer products.
The Max Steel line of action figures produced by Mattel initially sought to emulate Hasbro's original 12-inch 'G.

From action figures to trading cards to board games, some film favorites are rooted in the spirit of play. Much like the toys at the center of the upcoming “Max Steel,” about the team-up between teenager Max McGrath and his alien friend, Steel, these stories have come to the big screen in a big way. Starring Ben Winchell, Andy Garcia, Josh Brener, and Maria Bello, “Max Steel” is set to be released Aug. 28, just months before the anticipated production based on the TV show and Hasbro toys “Jem and the Holograms,” out October 2015. To celebrate, we’ve rounded up five films originally born from the imaginations of toy designers! “Transformers”The first of the live-action films based on the ’80s-era Hasbro robot toys debuted in 2007. It was the year that pushed Shia Labeouf out of the Mickey Mouse wheelhouse and into the series that would solidify Michael Bay’s status...

Sneak Peek images from the upcoming "Max Steel" feature film, based on the Mattel action figure line, directed by Stewart Hendler, starring Ben Winchell, Maria Bello, Andy Garcia and Mike Doyle, opening August 18, 2015:

Mattel, the creator of games and all things fun, has found a way to bring fun, philanthropy, celebrity, and an extraordinary experience all in one event. Mattel's annual Party at the Pier is so very special - young movie and TV stars gather at the Santa Monica Pier alongside kids who are patients at Mattel's Children's Hospital for a day of fun. It sounds exclusive, but it's not - regular people can attend too by buying tickets (that's how they raise money for the Children's Hospital!). In fact, KidsPickFlicks' Cole and Riley have attended for several years, riding rides alongside stars like Peyton List and Olivia Holt.
This year, our own Star Reporter Cassandra Hsiao, covered the event for Byou Magazine (scroll down to see video). She spoke to celebs like "Happyland" star (and Kpf Movie Star Movie Critic) Kat McNamara, "Jessie" star Karan Brar, "Mighty Med's" Paris Berelc,...

Ben Winchell and Ana Villafane both star in Max Steel, a new superhero feature adapted from lesser-known comic book that was inspired by a Mattel toy.
'Max Steel' Exclusive
In Max Steel, Winchell plays the titular role – half teenage boy (Max), half alien (Steel). It’s this duality of his character that Winchell believes sets him apart from all of the other superheroes that have recently been recreated in films.
“What makes them unique and what makes it different from every other superhero I feel has been out there is, if Max didn't have Steel, Max wouldn't be a superhero,” Winchell explained to uInterview. “Max is just a kid who has this energy running through him, that if he didn't have Steel there with him he would just explode and die. Which is terrible. But Steel is there Max has this energy that flows through him that if...

In this age of blockbuster superhero adaptations like Guardians of the Galaxy, Avengers: Age of Ultron, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, it’s refreshing to see a movie in the genre with a little more modest ambitions. Enter Max Steel, an adaptation of the same-named Disney Xd show aimed squarely at the tween/early teen demographic. The flick follows a teen whose extraordinary abilities begin to manifest themselves during puberty. With the help of an alien lifeform, he transforms into a superhero named Max Steel and quickly becomes the world’s last hope against forces of incredible power.

We have some new photos from Open Road Films' Max Steel for you to check out today thanks to Collider. I have to say I've been impressed with what I've seen from this movie. This is one of the films that could have easily ended up looking terrible, but these images show off something that could prove to be really cool.
The movie is based on the Mattel action figure and animated series on Disney Xd. Director Stewart Hendler wrapped production last month in Wilmington, North Carolina, and we should be getting our first trailer soon, as the movie has a panel at San Diego Comic-Con.
The movie stars Ben Winchell (Disney’s A.N.T. Farm, Necessary Roughness), and apparently he trained for 6 to 8 hours a day studying parkour, martial arts, boxing, and fencing to prepare for the role.
The feature also stars Ana Villafañe (Hiding) as Sofia Martinez, Maria Bello...

Given that the film doesn’t even have a release date yet, and that it just started rolling cameras in Wilmington, North Carolina, a few months back, it’s more than a little odd to be seeing images from Max Steel, a live-action adaptation of the Mattel action toy and its accompanying Disney Xd series, this early on.
