Judith must decide if she’ll pull the plug on her vegetative husband Benny, But because of Dr. Boyd, an optimistic neurologist claiming to have a cure, she keeps him alive. Judith’s love interest, Joseph Bayliss, senses something wrong with Dr. Boyds antics and thinks that Benny will never wake up and that a cure doesn’t exist. Bayliss just wants Judith to move on and lead a happy life. This angers Boyd who is willing to do whatever it takes to keep Benny alive even if it means getting rid of Bayliss for good. In the meantime Dr. Boyd is becoming more and more obsessed with his patient Benny and the previous life he lead, so much so that he feels that he has to take care of Benny’s unfinished business from the past. This is why he targets Preston Reynolds, a young and successful lawyer, who had previously done Benny wrong. Dr. Boyd becomes increasingly dangerous and Judith, Bayliss, and Preston have to fend for their lives. In 2005 the world was split in two about the decision whether or not to pull the plug on Terri Schiavo. After having a debate about the subject I couldn’t help but think what was happening in the mind of Terri Schiavo. What was the state of her soul, of her conscious? This was the beginning of my idea for the film “Mind Malady.” Mind Malady is a story that takes a closer look at what happens to those that lie in a persistent vegetative state.
