‘American Sports Story’ Star Jaylen Barron on Why Shayanna Jenkins Stands by Aaron Hernandez When He’s Tried for Murder
Image
[This story contains spoilers from the ninth episode of American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez, “What’s Left Behind.”]

“What’s Left Behind” is an apt title for the ninth episode of FX limited series American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez. With Odin Lloyd’s murder tackled in episode eight, Hernandez (played by Josh Rivera) clearly reached the point of no return. Waving off the police who show up to his home in the night to ask him questions as they investigate Lloyd’s (played by J. Alex Brinson) murder is a very temporary fix. By the episode’s end, Hernandez’s fiancée, Shayanna “Shay” Jenkins, with whom he shared the home, is caught between her man and child’s father and her younger sister Shaneah Jenkins, who is literally grieving the loss of her partner, Odin, on the couch in that home.

Episode nine focuses squarely on Jenkins as her world begins to crumble after Hernandez is arrested...

American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez episode 9 review: A little too late for a focused story
Image
FX’s American Sports Story: Aaron Henandez episode 9 finally covers the trial we have all been waiting to see. But by now, the facts of the story are nothing but blurs as the fiction in Ryan Murphy’s sports drama takes the wheel. Spoilers ahead if you missed the penultimate episode, “What’s Left Behind.”

Spoiler alert! Final spoiler warning as we’ll be diving into Sport Story episode 9. Go stream the latest chapter on Hulu before reading ahead.

Even as Aaron Hernandez (Josh Andres Rivera) is being taken away from his home in handcuffs for the murder of Odin Lloyd (J. Alex Brinson), he displays attitude and confidence. Aaron appears to believe this will eventually all blow over and he’ll walk out a free man. Unfortunately, for him, we know this is not the way it is going to work out for Aaron. It goes to show, however,...

‘American Sports Story’ Star Josh Rivera on Balancing Aaron Hernandez’s Humanity & Horrors
Image
[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez, Season 1, Episode 9, “What’s Left Behind.”] American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez finally saw the consequences of the footballer’s actions come back to haunt him as FX‘s drama explored the former Patriots star’s arrest in 2013. The installment, “What’s Left Behind,” saw Aaron (Josh Rivera) carted away in handcuffs for the murder of Odin Lloyd (J. Alex Brinson). While viewers and those who followed Hernandez’s story as it unfolded in real-time know that the athlete was guilty of the murder, Rivera’s performance conveys a blind optimism on Hernandez’s part as he believes he can win the case against him. His confidence in getting out of trouble stems partly from past situations where he’s been spared legally as well as his legion of fans and the help of his family, including his mother Terri (Tammy Blanchard), brother D.J. (Ean Castellanos), cousin Tanya (...

‘American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez’ Director Steven Canals and Key Cast on Why Odin Lloyd’s Death Hit So Hard
Image
[This story contains spoilers from the eighth episode of American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez, “Odin.”]

Filming Odin Lloyd’s murder in episode eight of the FX series American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez was particularly challenging for Josh Rivera who plays Aaron Hernandez, the one-time New England Patriots NFL star who was later convicted for the murder of Lloyd, and who died of an apparent suicide in prison. Taking the life of Lloyd, the boyfriend of Shaneah Jenkins, the sister of Hernandez’s fiancée Shayana, was personally devastating to the actor. Not only had Hernandez and Lloyd hung out a few times and, by most definitions, were friends, they were also potential in-laws.

“To have your life taken, something about that settled with me in a different way,” says Rivera of reenacting the heinous murder. “When you’re talking about true crime, there’s this barrier we put up that kind of separates ourselves from the reality of that, and something about shooting that...

‘American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez’ Review: FX’s Ryan Murphy-Produced Drama Brings Little New Insight to an Infamous Crime
Image
By the time Aaron Hernandez (Josh Rivera) points the gun at Odin Lloyd (J. Alex Brinson) in the eighth chapter of FX’s American Sports Story, we have been made to understand exactly how he got here. What might have seemed like a shocking act out of the blue in 2013, when the NFL superstar was first arrested for killing his friend, feels, after seven episodes of painstaking backstory, like the culmination of a perfect storm of unfortunate circumstances and worse choices. It’s no less horrifying, and no more justifiable. But it is more explicable.

What remains unclear, however, is precisely why we’re reliving all of this in the first place. The Ryan Murphy-produced American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez — planned as the first season in an ongoing anthology à la American Crime Story or American Horror Story — is well-cast, carefully researched, and scrupulous in avoiding the temptation...

All Rise Season 3 Episode 12 Review: Guilt is a Bully
All Rise (2019)
Undoubtedly, All Rise Season 3 Episode 12 is the best episode of the season so far and is one of the series' best.

The organ trafficking case allowed the two strongest female lawyers to face off and work together to catch the most significant criminal.

With "Guilt is a Bully, " many of our favorites realize that guilt is holding them back in their relationships, and the series highlights friends and couples having fun. Was nothing more yummy than seeing Wilson Bethel and J. Alex Brinson shirtless?

Organ trafficking cases are challenging to watch since there are no winners. I've watched similar cases on Law & Order: Svu and my heart went to Damien Davis and Gabriel Salas.

Amy's client, Damien, only had six months to live and was 250th on the transplant list, so he purchased the kidney. He never intended the traffickers to attack Gabriel violently when they removed the kidney.

Amy:...

Exclusive: All Rise Season 3B Gives Lola a Shocking New Case
Image
The next case on All Rise isn't for the faint of heart -- and Cbr has an exclusive clip revealing what's coming to the Hall of Justice before the startling episode airs Sept. 23 on OWN.

In Season 3, Episode 12, "Guilt Is a Bully," Judge Lola Carmichael is presiding over a case that pits defense lawyer Amy Quinn against intractable Deputy District Attorney Maggie Palmer (returning guest star Suzanne Cryer). However, more remarkable than Maggie's presence is what she and Amy are battling over. The case is one of the more uncomfortable ones in All Rise's final season.

All Rise Teases Loss, Romance, and Return Cases in Final Season
All Rise (2019)
The final episodes are almost here. All Rise Season 4 premieres on Saturday, September 16, and they're bringing the drama.

OWN TV dropped the official season trailer, which teases loss, romance, returns, and riveting cases.

It’s hard to believe this is the end since we’ve grown to love these characters, but hopefully, OWN had enough time to craft a proper goodbye.

At the end of All Rise Season 3 Episode 10, Brandon Nation had caused senseless violence and possibly killed Ness and Teddy.

We’re still unsure if one or both of them die, but Lola is on the warpath to prevent more violence.

Lola’s marriage was also in jeopardy since Andre took advantage of her fear and kissed her, and Robin walked in at that moment.

Can she and Robin work things out and learn to communicate their needs better?

The other couples are finally flourishing. Luke and Emily finally...

10 Reasons We'll Miss All Rise
Image
While All Rise may have been canceled, the legal drama has plenty to be proud of. From its debut on CBS to its current home on OWN, All Rise boasts many strengths that are missing from other TV series. Led by a talented yet underappreciated cast, the show has a unique approach to storytelling and finds many small, meaningful ways to surprise viewers.

It's disappointing that Season 3 will be the last, especially as the season will only last 10 episodes. Still, thanks to its talented stars and captivating character arcs, All Rise is a special TV drama and there isn't likely to ever be another series quite like it. Luckily, viewers can stream it on either Hulu or Max before new installments premiere on OWN.

All Rise Canceled at OWN: Find Out When the Final Episodes Will Air
All Rise (2019)
We have unfortunate but expected news about OWN's thrilling courtroom drama All Rise.

The series has been canceled after three seasons.

Truthfully, the writing had been on the wall for some time.

All Rise Season 3 Episode 10 aired a year ago, and the series has been on hiatus ever since -- never a good sign for any series.

In March, Deadline reported that the entire cast had been released, meaning that new deals would have to be reached if negotiations got underway for a fourth season.

As a result, the series has faced an uphill battle since its move to the cable network after CBS swung the axe following All Rise Season 2.

The only silver lining here is that we still have ten episodes of All Rise left to air.

They will begin airing on Saturday, September 16, at 9 p.m. Et/Pt.

A Saturday slot for a scripted drama is...

All Rise Season 3B: Release Date, Cast, and Everything Else You Need to Know
All Rise (2019)
Judge Lola Carmichael and her team of attorneys have kept us entertained with their fight for justice and their own drama for almost three seasons.

Unfortunately, the long wait for the second half of All Rise Season 3 is killing the momentum. It hasn't aired in a year, and its future beyond the filmed episodes is up in the air.

The show will be back on the air at some point, though, and we've rounded up everything there is to know about what could be the final-ever episodes.

All Rise Season 3 Episode 10 ended bittersweetly since two lives hung in the balance due to Brandon Nation.

While couples reuniting during a tragedy is overdone, seeing Luke rush to save Emily and Maddy from Leo and the two finally admit their feelings were long overdue.

It was such an emotional scene, but viewers want happier times instant of continuous angst for Luke and Emily.

All Rise in Danger Again as Cast Released Ahead of Season 3 Return
All Rise (2019)
The fate of All Rise is, once again, up in the air.

Deadline reported Thursday that Warner Bros. Television has released the cast of the legal drama.

OWN, which picked up the show from CBS after the network canceled it after two seasons, has yet to schedule the second half of All Rise Season 3.

The show has been off the air since early August, so the lack of updates on when the rest of the season would air has been a major cause for concern.

Deadline notes that OWN will not make an official decision on a pickup for a potential fourth season until the next batch of episodes air.

The outlet believes the episodes will see the light of day later this year.

However, there's a good chance the cast will have moved on to new projects, meaning that assembling everyone again for a potential All Rise Season 4 will be a difficult task.

‘All Rise’ Future On OWN Uncertain As Cast Gets Released Ahead Of Season 3B Run
Image
Exclusive: Once again, All Rise is facing a possible cancellation. The cast of the courtroom drama series, led by Simone Missick, has been released by producing studio Warner Bros. Television.

OWN gave All Rise a second lease on life, picking up the series for a 20-episode Season 3 in 2021 following its cancellation by CBS after two seasons. The new season, which has been completed, was slated to run in two 10-episode batches, with the first half airing last summer and the second one set to air later this year.

All Rise was not able to bring in broadcast-size audience to OWN but Season 3A did Ok by cable standards. With the cast options coming up and Season 3B yet to be scheduled, I hear the studio notified the actors that their options are not getting picked up. OWN is expected to make a decision on the show’s future after the episodes air.

It's wonderful. I love growing. Younger Luke was very indecisive as he tried to figure himself out. He didn't know what he wanted or what his approach should be.

All Rise: OWN in Talks to Revive Canceled CBS Drama
All Rise (2019)
In a spectacular turn of events, All Rise could return from the dead.

Per Deadline, the canceled CBS drama could be revived at cable network OWN.

The outlet states that Warner Bros. TV is in very early negotiations about a potential third season renewal.

These talks are notoriously complicated, and there's no guarantee that a renewal will come on the back of it.

Still, Warner Bros. TV is in negotiations with the cast to lock them in should a new season get ordered.

But there appears to be interest, which could bode well for the future of the show.

Leading up to the cancellation after two seasons, it was revealed that creator/co-showrunner was fired following an investigation into allegations of unprofessional conduct.

Unlike many other series on TV during the recent season,...
