Who hasn’t read a piece of classic literature and thought, “Hey, this would make a great video game?” I think back to countless boring hours spent in college, listening to someone drone on about symbolism while thinking, “I wish I could see the bloodshed of MacBeth laid out in a gory platformer.” Luckily, the good people at Visceral Games share such sentiments, and have re-interpreted the first third of Dante Aligheri’s The Divine Comedy with Dante’S Inferno (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3).

Short Version: Dante’s Inferno offers up a solid, if somewhat shallow and short-lived, action experience. If you are looking for a stop gap until God of War 3 arrives, Dante’s Inferno will likely satisfy your thirst for button mashing action.
Game Rant reviews Dante’s Inferno
Dante’s Inferno isn’t necessarily the first videogame to be based on a piece of classic literature – but it is the most mainstream title to do so. Published by EA and developed by Visceral Games, the team behind 2008’s fantastically terrifying Dead Space, Dante’s Inferno takes its cues from the epic Dante Alighieri poem, The Divine Comedy, specifically the first chapter, “Inferno”.
Rather than directly re-telling the poem stanza by stanza, Visceral have instead opted for a thematic re-imaging of the source material, using the poems key ideas and imagery to create a very adult character action game.

Chicago – As we wait for the imminent release of “God of War III,” it seems that a few developers are trying to beat Kratos to the punch with their own “Gow”-esque titles. January produced the very good “Darksiders” and now we have the buzzed arrival of EA’s “Dante’s Inferno,” a game with remarkable moments but significant flaws that dampen the flame just as it starts to heat up.

It’s a big week for PlayStation gamers with a couple of high-profile retail titles as well as some great Dlc content through the Psn.
By now most of our readers are aware of Heavy Rain’s impending release this Tuesday. There’s a lot of hype surrounding the game but no matter where you might fall in the discussion, you can’t deny that Quantic Dreams has offered PS3 owners an entirely unique gaming experience and that, if nothing else, the game sets a new standard for how players can experience story in a video game. If you’re still on the fence, make sure to check out the demo – not to mention our forthcoming review.
It’s also worth mentioning that both Resident Evil 5 and Assassin’s Creed II received large Dlc campaign add-ons in this week’s update to the Psn Store. If your a fan of either series,...

Claiming that the game Dante’s Inferno was inspired by The Divine Comedy is like claiming that the hot dog was inspired by filet mignon. The only tangible element that the game and Dante’s poem have in common is that they both involve visits to hell. Dante, the game’s main character, is a bland-faced Crusader who appears to be on a quest to find a Dirk The Daring look-alike contest. After a brief tutorial that introduces you to your weak attacks and strong attacks, Death shows up, ready to usher Dante’s soul into the underworld. But Dante ...

When it was announced that Visceral Games, the company behind Dead Space was going to tackle a video game adaptation of Inferno, the first part of Dante Alighieri's The Divine Comedy, there was plenty of (understandable) doubt that it would translate well between formats. After all, how can a huge, metaphorical and spiritual journey translate into a third-person action game? Let's not mince words as far as the changes made to the source material, as anyone looking for an accurate portrayal of Dante's journey through the netherworld with the poet Virgil will be sorely disappointed. I'm not going to go deep into spoiler territory just yet, but Dante has a far more cliché reason to journey...

Christos Gage and Diego Latorre team-up on the newest Wildstorm offering: Dante’s Inferno. Gage re-imagines the classic masterpiece, the first part of Dante Alighieri’s, The Divine Comedy, as a tragic love story that results in a horrific adventure through Hell itself. An allegory for one’s travel through hell in life, ‘Inferno’ identified human foibles so that they may be cast off for a chance at salvation. The story was referred to as a “comedy” because the characters experienced a happy ending to their tale, despite the ominous, macabre content. In this version of the story, Dante, a medieval knight, pledges his undying love and loyalty to Beatrice, his soon-to-be damsel-in-distress. Beatrice is murdered while Dante fights in the Crusades. Her soul is lost to the Devil on a wager, a result of Dante’s own transgressions, leading Dante to defy Death to reclaim her soul from Hell.

As the video games industry rapidly comes of age like an ungainly teenager emerging wide-eyed into adulthood, it's heartening to see more developers drawing on a richer cultural palette than just guns and scantily clad maidens. Enter Dante's Inferno, the new IP from EA studio Visceral Games, which takes its inspiration from classic 14th century poem The Divine Comedy. Written by Italian Dante Alighieri between 1308 and 1321, the poem had a profound effect on Christian beliefs around the afterlife, particularly the meaning and imagery of eternal damnation. So Digital Spy swallowed its sins and jumped through the gates of hell to see how Visceral is transforming such a revered literary masterpiece into a punchy game experience. You might remember that earlier in the year two projects were announced, both of which would bring Dante Alighieri’s epic poem – The Divine Comedy – to the big screen. Yes not one, but two projects bringing Dante’s Inferno and the nine circles of hell to life, the difference? One is live action, to be penned by “X2: X-Men United” writer Dan Harris and the other, an animated feature.
While we’re quite a way off from seeing any progress at all on the live action movie, a trailer has been released for the animated film, which is based on the Electronic Arts game.
Produced by Joe Goyette and directed by Victor Cook, Dante’s Inferno: The Animated Epic will feature nine vignettes, created by six leading animation studios, including the talents behind “Blood the Last Vampire” (animated) and “Ghost in the Shell.” Check out the fantastic results below:

Electronic Arts' Visceral Games division has confirmed that Oscar-nominated writer Will "Monster's Ball" Rokos will script the story line for Dante's Inferno, a new video game adaptation, based on 'Part 1' of author Dante Alighieri's poem The Divine Comedy. It is rarely highlighted what a strange habit and practice cinema-going is. Off we go to sit in a darkened room, usually with complete strangers, and watch something akin to a dream unfold before us. After all, Hollywood in particular, has been known as “The Dream Factory”. Why restrict it to Hollywood? Cinema = dreams. And as the subconscious plays havoc; dreams can turn into nightmares.
