Convicted with
Hank Greenspun in 1950 of smuggling weapons to Israel in violation of the Neutrality Act. Greenspun was fined $10,000, and eventually pardoned by President
John F. Kennedy. Schwimmer was barred from voting or employment by the federal government, and dishonorably discharged from the Air Force Reserve. In 1951, he accepted
David Ben-Gurion's invitation to immigrate to Israel. Schwimmer was pardoned by President
Bill Clinton in 2001 as a favor to Greenspun's son,
Brian Greenspun.
