Jerry Falwell Jr.

Former Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr. is ready to sell the South Beach hostel that is notoriously linked to the “pool boy” sex scandal, though the deal is currently held up in court.
A company set up by Falwell’s son bought the Alston Hostel for $4.7 million in 2013. Giancarlo Granda, who befriended Jerry and his wife, Becki, while working as a pool attendant at the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami, was listed as a partner in the sale.
It was later leaked that Granda and Becki had been having sex in the years prior, with Granda claiming that Falwell filmed some of the encounters. The saga ultimately forced Falwell’s exit as president of Liberty University in 2020.
Granda’s name was removed from the hostel’s annual corporate filings last year, though he still claims to have a stake in the business.

Hulu has acquired rights to “The Contestant,” a documentary about an aspiring comedian who unknowingly becomes the most famous TV star in Japan.
Clair Titley directed the movie, which premiered at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival to positive reviews. “The Contestant” will launch on Hulu in 2024.
The documentary tells the stranger-than-fiction story of Tomoaki Hamatsu, nicknamed Nasubi, who auditioned for a TV show in 1998. The premise of “Denpa Shonen: A Life in Prizes,” the series that eventually made him a household name in Japan, left Nasubi naked in an empty room for more than a year and tasked him with filling out magazine sweepstakes to earn food, clothes and other necessities. But he had no idea he was becoming wildly famous in Japan as the series was broadcast to more than 15 million people.
“The Contestant” explores one of the first extreme reality shows that pushed boundaries and paved way for others like it.

Gravitas Ventures has secured North American rights to Julian Rubinstein’s “The Holly,” a documentary about the high-profile shooting case of anti-gang activist Terrance Roberts. When Miami-based documentary director Billy Corben and his producing partner Alfred Spellman received a June 2020 email with a subject line invoking Giancarlo Granda, Jerry Falwell Jr. and Donald Trump, they knew they had the next film for their Rakontur nonfiction banner.
Granda, a local pool boy who began having an affair with Falwell’s wife Becki in 2012, had sent the email. After telling his story to Reuters, Granda was ready to go on camera about his past relations with the evangelical couple. The result is the new Hulu documentary feature “God Forbid: The Sex Scandal That Brought Down a Dynasty,” released Nov. 1. In the doc, Granda claims that Falwell Jr., a staunch supporter of Donald Trump, was aware of and involved in the relationship he was having with Becki Falwell. In August 2020, Jerry Falwell Jr, one of Donald Trump’s staunchest supporters, resigned as president of Liberty University – a private, evangelical Christian institution in Lynchburg, Virginia. The university, founded by Falwell’s father – a prominent televangelist – is famed for its strict “moral code”, which includes the prohibition of alcohol, premarital sex and cohabitation. That moral code, as the university sees it, was not adhered to by its president, whose resignation came after he found himself embroiled in a sex scandal involving a pool boy from Miami, Florida.
In Hulu’s new documentary, God Forbid: The Sex Scandal That Brought Down a Dynasty, that pool attendant, named Giancarlo Granda, describes how his involvement with Jerry Jr’s wife Becki led to the downfall of one of the most influential families in America. In an explosive 2020 interview, Granda revealed that he and Becki were engaged in a seven-year affair and alleged that...

Alright everyone, we’ve got all the spookies of October out of our system. Time to turn our eye to Hulu’s list of new releases for November 2022 to celebrate a new fall tradition of…hunky male dancers?
That’s right, Hulu’s biggest original title for November 2022 is Welcome to Chippendales on Nov. 22. This limited series stars Kumail Nanjiani (Eternals) as Somen “Steve” Banerjee, the real life founder of the original Chippendales club of exotic male dancers. After hits like The Dropout and Pam & Tommy, Hulu likely has high hopes for this one.
The other big original series of note this month is FX’s Fleishman is in Trouble on Nov. 17. This is based on a 2019 novel of the same name and stars Jesse Eisenberg as the titular Toby Fleischman in crisis. Before that, Hulu is teaming up with ABC for some true crime docuseries like Where is Private Dulaney?...

The catastrophic descent of the man who put his religious sway behind Donald Trump is explored in a new Hulu documentary
Jerry Falwell Jr once said there was nothing that then president Donald Trump could do that would endanger support from him or other Christian evangelical leaders. “When Jesus said we’re all sinners, he really meant all of us, everybody,” he told the Washington Post in January 2019.
Falwell knew whereof he spoke. A year and a half later, he would resign in disgrace from Liberty University, the evangelical college his father founded in Lynchburg, Virginia, after a series of personal scandals that would have made even Trump blush.

The life of Jerry Falwell — the late Moral Majority televangelist who for decades helped catalyze the rightward shift of American evangelicals before his death in 2007 — is a quintessentially American story. But it’s in the next generation that the Falwell narrative becomes at once soap opera and morality tale.
That’s the case made by “God Forbid: The Sex Scandal That Brought Down a Dynasty,” a feature-length documentary released on Hulu. It covers the graceless fall of Jerry Falwell Jr., who after the death of his father was placed in the presidency of the family’s conservative organ Liberty University. There, he seemed to remain painfully in thrall to his appetites. We hear testimony about his alleged tendency to drink on the job and discomfiting, slurry interviews between him and sympathetic media — but most crucially, we receive the testimony of Giancarlo Granda.

Details of the sordid affair between wife of Jerry Falwell Jr., Becki Falwell, and a pool boy she met at a Florida hotel have been relieved in an explosive new book.
Former pool boy Giancarlo Granda‘s new book Off The Deep End: Jerry and Becki Falwell and the Collapse of an Evangelical Dynasty sheds light on the six-year relationship.
In 2020, when the controversy first was revealed Jerry Falwell Jr. stepped down from his position as president of the evangelical college Liberty University, which his father founded.
Becki allegedly approached Granda during a stay at the Fontainebleau Hotel, in Miami, back in 2012.
According to Granda, she offered sex but only if her husband could watch.
“I was conflicted. On the one hand, she was in her bikini, touching her neck, fussing with her hair, paying me compliments, sipping on her drink while she stared into my eyes. I found it all very intriguing,...

Before the events related in this excerpt, Giancarlo Granda was just another 20-year-old Miami high school graduate: pool attendant at an iconic Miami Beach hotel, eager to please, ambitious, open to suggestion. A scandal that rocked the Evangelical Christian community is the subject of the upcoming Hulu documentary God Forbid: The Sex Scandal That Brought Down a Dynasty. The film focuses on the downfall of former Liberty University president Jerry Falwell Jr., who endorsed Donald Trump for the Republican nomination in the 2016 presidential election. “As a pool attendant, I would get hit on,” says former pool-boy turned Falwell business partner Giancarlo Granda at the start of the trailer (watch below). “But if I would have known that accepting this woman’s invitation to go back to her hotel room would have led to a scandal involving the president of the largest Christian university in the world, and the president of the United States, I would have walked away and just enjoyed my private life.” Granda is referring to his sexual relationship with Jerry’s wife, Becki, with whom he allegedly had an affair for roughly seven years.

Per Hulu’s official description for the movie, which will launch Nov. 1 on the Disney-owned streamer, “A Miami pool boy finds himself trapped in a seven-year...

On May 27th, the second day of mounting national outrage over the killing of George Floyd by Minneapolis police, the president of America’s largest evangelical university decided it was the perfect time to blast out a tweet featuring the crudest of racial imagery. “I was adamantly opposed to the mandate from @GovernorVA requiring citizens to wear face masks until I decided to design my own,” wrote Jerry Falwell Jr. Below the text was his design: a mask displaying the image of a white person in blackface, standing next to...

For the loyal viewers of Fox News, the tired face and ragged voice of Dr. W. Ian Lipkin, one of the country’s foremost infectious-disease experts, have become something of a familiar sight. Donald Trump had such high hopes for Easter. So high, in fact, that when he burst forth on Fox News a couple of weeks ago with his idea of “re-opening” the country wide this coming Sunday, he gave it an exemplary rating of three “beautifuls”: “I just thought that it was a beautiful time … a beautiful timeline. It’s a beautiful day.”
You could close your eyes and easily imagine what the president was envisioning: At a time of his appointing, on Easter Sunday, shop doors would be flung...

Donald Trump is a president made for a time when Americans can no longer embrace one another. It is a strange coincidence that the most divisive and conspicuously bigoted president in decades will be known most for a lethal pandemic that separates us by fiat, preventing physical community in order to help us all survive. The coronavirus has effectively extended our winters, mandating that we be at home as much as possible. Surely some are reading and exercising more, but few things are more American than defraying anxiety with some easily disposable television.

Fox Business Network has severed ties with primetime host Trish Regan, who sparked controversy after claiming that the ongoing coronavirus pandemic was an “impeachment scam” around two weeks ago.
“Fox Business has parted ways with Trish Regan,” the network said in a statement. “We thank her for her contributions to the network over the years and wish her continued success in her future endeavors. We will continue our reduced live primetime schedule for the foreseeable future in an effort to allocate staff resources to continuous breaking news coverage on the coronavirus crisis.”

In a guest appearance on Fox & Friends on Friday, Jerry Falwell Jr. said it was “strange how so many are overreacting” to the coronavirus, suggesting that it was the “next attempt to get Trump.”

Jerry Falwell Jr. appeared on Fox News’ “Fox & Friends” Tuesday to add his voice to the growing clamor around a Christianity Today editorial in favor of removing President Donald Trump from office.
“I think it’s hypocritical. I think it’s ironic, also, that Christianity Today — sort of a forgotten magazine from yesteryear — took the opportunity the week before Christmas to point out the difference between true Christianity and Pharisaical or judgmental Christianity,” the Liberty University President said, adding that the publication “reminded us that there is an elite establishment among the religious community just like there is in the government, that is liberal, that’s left-wing. It’s a group that is — they think they are more moral and smarter than the rest of us.”

Evangelical Christians love President Trump. They voted for him in 2016 by a staggering margin — 80% to 16% — and a Pew Research poll released in March found that 69% of white evangelicals approve of the job Trump is doing as president. The fact that Trump is a lewd, twice-divorced former casino magnate who has bragged about grabbing women by their genitals does not seem to bother the nation’s most devout Christians. Jerry Falwell Jr. is a big reason why.

Washington — The Department of Education, led by Republican über-donor and grizzly-bear alarmist Betsy DeVos, has unveiled a new proposal that would make it dramatically harder for tens of thousands of students who attended scammy for-profit colleges to receive debt relief.
