Two of UFC’s biggest stars will duke it out in an anticipated showdown this weekend. Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor will fight for a third time this Saturday, July 10 at Las Vegas’s T-Mobile Arena, with the main event set to stream live at 10 p.m. Et on ESPN+.
The face-off follows Poirier’s victory at UFC 257 in January, where he defeated McGregor with a second-round knockout. Saturday’s game is sure to be close considering both fighters’ track records: McGregor defeated Poirier in 2014, when he was on his way to becoming a UFC featherweight champion, but in the meantime, Poirier has gone on to establish himself at the top of UFC’s lightweight division.

The final events of 2015 were tremendous success stories for Ufc, anchored by the drawing power of superstars Ronda Rousey and Conor McGregor and supported by some outstanding performances up and down each card. It was an awesome way to cap off a pivotal year for the promotion in which they suffered from oversaturation, fighter injuries and controversies. As the first show of 2016, Ufc 195 has hopefully set the tone for the kind of year we’re in for.
And that tone was a beautiful symphony of violence conducted by two of the most entertaining composers to ever do it.
Robbie Lawler and Carlos Condit had the misfortune of headlining a pay-per-view on the heels of back-to-back shows starring Mma’s two biggest active draws, and while the buyrate and gates will surely see a decrease from the preceding events, the two welterweight warriors delivered in every way possible.

Ufc 195 follows in the wake of two of the promotion’s biggest events in recent years: Ufc 193, which saw the shock upset defeat of bantamweight queen Ronda Rousey by former boxing champ Holly Holm, and Ufc 194, where Conor McGregor lived up to the hype and dethroned featherweight kingpin Jose Aldo, ending a decade-long undefeated streak in the process.
That brings us to the first Ufc event of 2016 in Ufc 195, which has a main event of welterweight champion Robbie Lawler taking on the Natural Born Killer Carlos Condit. That bout has all the makings of an instant classic: Lawler is coming off one of the most violent, epic welterweight title fights ever with Rory MacDonald, while Carlos Condit is known for always being a game opponent. Both like to engage in standup wars, so you can expect this bout to be brutal.

Let’s face the facts, it’s an amazing feat of athleticism just to make it to the Ufc. However, everyone worth their salt as a competitor wants one thing: to wear the championship belt. Unfortunately for the athletes on this list, chances are that they will never hear Michael Buffer refer to them as the New Ufc Champion.
Olympic competition, collegiate wrestling, championships in other organizations, being in the best Mma camp in the world; none of these things guarantee even a title opportunity in the Ufc. This is a list of popular fighters. Most of them have the charisma to put butts in the seats. Many of them are knowledgeable enough to coach. But the hard facts say they just aren’t going to get that Ufc belt.

According to the Ufc’s official website, number six ranked welterweight and former Bellator middleweight champion Hector Lombard has fallen to injury, and will be replaced by Tyron Woodley at the upcoming Ufc Fight Night: Le vs. Bisping in Macao, China. The event takes place August 23rd at the Cotai Arena.
Woodley most recently fought at Ufc 174 in Vancouver, losing a unanimous decision to Canadian Rory MacDonald in which he was badly outworked. The match resulted in Ufc president Dana White publicly criticizing Woodley’s performance, saying that he “chokes in big fights.” Woodley now has the chance to quickly right the ship against number nine ranked Dong Hyun Kim, a.k.a. Stun Gun, who enters the fight on a four fight win streak, with wins over John Hathaway, Erik Silva, Siyar Bahadurzada, and Paulo Thiago dating back to 2012. His last two wins, over Silva and Hathaway, came by way of knockout.

With two big announcements made over the weekend regarding upcoming Ufc pay-per-views, it has become apparent that 2013 is indeed the year of the rematch. Eleven events remain in this calendar year – 6 of which are pay-per-views – and four of which are headlined by fighters who have met in the Octagon before. In fact, the year-end card – Ufc 168 – has now changed its’ main event fight into the co-main event, and this is also a rematch. Four of the upcoming five rematches have a belt on the line, though the stakes are also high in the non-title rematch of this list.
So, these facts are interesting, but what do they really mean? Is it now a case of the Ufc running out of ideas so they are settling with fights which have, as shown in the first (or in Velasquez-Dos Santos’ case second) fight, excited fans? Or is it simply unfinished business? For me,...

The Ufc returns to Japan this weekend with another Fuel TV card and, in truth, this one is pretty freaking stacked from top to bottom. For the complete preview of the card, including Facebook prelims, fellow WhatCulture.com columnist, Mitchell Stucky, joined me on the Getting Lucky Mma Podcast (E030). Main card preview below.
Main Card Preview
Dong Hyun Kim (16-2-1, 1) vs. Siyar Bahadurzada (21-4-1), Ww: Kim is a world class grappler and judoka, which was evident in his utter dismantling of Paulo Thiago, Bjj black belt, on the ground back at Ufc: Macao. The only people to defeat Kim are Demian Maia, the best Bjj master in all of mixed martial arts, and Carlos Condit, a fighter that is surprisingly effective in his offense from the guard and extremely well rounded in all areas.
Siyar makes a great story as an Afghan fighter with tremendous power, 11 KOs.

Before I write another word about Johny Hendricks, I have a confession to make.
I am biased.
I am an Oklahoma State alumnus, born and raised in beautiful Stillwater, Oklahoma. At the dinner table each night as a young Lucky, we thanked God for Henry Iba, Eddie Sutton, and the entire Smith wrestling dynasty (LeRoy, John, Pat, & Mark) with their 7 national championships and 2 Olympic gold medals. I take great pride in the 34 national champions and 134 individual Ncaa championships of my school and alma mater. And our Johny is part of that bedrock.
When I see a Cowboy wrestler with a freaking spitter on stage at a Ufc presss conference, rocking an epic beard, and his easy going folksy accent, I know that’s my guy. That’s a Good Ole Boy. Now with all of that being said, I can objectively and emphatically state:

Ufc 154 concluded with a candidate for Fight of the Year in the headliner with Georges St-Pierre facing off against Carlos Condit to unify the Welterweight Championship. We cover all of the action from the Facebook card to the FX card to the PPV card in full detail on who won, how they won, and what it means for each fighter and division.
There were numerous things at stake for Georges St-Pierre in this fight, including a potential super fight with P4P King Anderson Silva, but perhaps more immediate was effect a win or a loss would have on the trajectory of his legacy. He has already established himself as the greatest Welterweight in history by surpassing the achievements of Matt Hughes, but if Gsp lost against his toughest challenger to date in Carlos Condit, it might signal that his prime was over, that the knee injury would change him...

We return for another Mma podcast. This time we are previewing the massive card in Montreal, Quebec, Ufc 154. How big is big you ask? 13 fights! Including 5 on the main card. The highlight of course is the epic showdown between the Interim Welterweight Champion, Carlos Condit (28-5), against the returning Welterweight Champion, Georges St-Pierre (22-2).
Quite frankly this is a massive fight and one that will affect Gsp’s legacy far into the future. If he wins this fight, then the Anderson Silva fight must happen. If he loses, then Gsp must recapture his belt, perhaps by first fighting Nick Diaz and working his way back toward Condit.
But there are other exciting fights on the card including a #1 contender eliminator between Martin Kampann (20-5) and Johny Hendricks (13-1), the streaking Francis Carmont (19-7) against Tom Lawler (8-4), and England’s very own John Maguire (18-4) fighting Matthew Riddle (10-3).

Georges St-Pierre (22-2) returns to the octagon after a lay-off of 567 days to face the interim champion, Carlos Condit (28-5), at Ufc 154 in Montreal, Canada. Despite already establishing himself as the best welterweight on the planet, this fight will be the biggest and most difficult of his distinguished career. More important than his treble with Matt Hughes. More important than his battles with Bj Penn.
And the reason for that is simple. This fight more than any other will define Gsp’s place in history.
The Challenger – Carlos Condit
Carlos Condit came into the Ufc via the acquired Wec, where he ran rampant over mainly 2nd tier competition en route to a Wec welterweight belt with three title defenses. After transitioning to the Ufc with a close split decision loss to Martin Kampmann (14-2) at Ufc Fight Night, Condit recovered impressively with a 5-fight win streak.
And not just a win streak.

November 17th, this Saturday, Gsp is back! As the promo said, this might be the most anticipated return in Ufc history. It’s been a long time since we’ve last seen Georges St. Pierre in the octagon. The last time we saw him he didn’t go out on a high note. In his fight with Shields, both men didn’t look like they wanted to be in the octagon. So as a result we recieved a very lackluster fight that nearly ruined an extremely exciting card. Many fans, or I should say internet fans, were not anticipated for anymore Gsp fights. The folks over at MMAMania have just posted the new poster for Ufc 154: St-Pierre Vs Condit, which is schedueled to take place on Saturday, November 17 from the Bell Center in Montreal, Quebec.
Come fight night, the Ufc welterweight champion Georges ‘Rush’ St-Pierre will have been out of action for just over one year and six months after sitting on the sidelines to recover his surgically repaired knee. His return to the octogan has been highly anticipated and many fans are anxious to see how well he does considering the extent of his injury.
His foe, the interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit, will be one of his toughest tests, especially considering the personal physical challenges that the Canadian champ has faced.
Although the fight is still nearly two months away, is anyone else already getting excited about Gsp’s return?

Forget Ufc middleweight champion Anderson Silva. Georges St-Pierre disclosed to the Leader-Post, albeit jokingly, that a face off with Jean-Claude Van Damme would be the superfight he would have wanted.
“I would have liked to fight Jean-Claude Van Damme in ‘Bloodsport’. That would have been my dream fight, in an Mma cage,” said St-Pierre
While this is obviously nothing but a fantasy, Jcvd was recently spotted at Tri-Star Gym in Montreal training with St-Pierre in preparation for his role in The Expendables 2. Undoubtedly, both stars likely hold a mutual respect for one another due to their similar backgrounds: both have a passion for martial arts and have French speaking roots.
Although this match up would have been fun to see on the silver screen in the 80’s during Van Damme’s prime, in reality, St-Pierre is preparing to return from a lengthy departure from Mma due to a knee injury.
