Fox Entertainment’s MarVista Entertainment, a prolific producer and distributor of original movies for traditional and streaming networks worldwide, is continuing its expansion into Latin America, signing a major development and production deal with TelevisaUnivision.

Let's be honest; Lifetime has once again risen to the occasion with a jolly holiday film that you'll want to watch over and over again.
And, of course, Under the Christmas Tree just so happens to be their first lesbian-centric Christmas movie, too.
With dynamic leads, charismatic supporting characters, and a romance that made you squeal in delight, Under the Christmas Tree was a damn near perfect film destined to become a classic for the network.
It's certainly on my personal list of favorites that I'll look forward to in the upcoming years.
Lifetime pledged to make the yuletide gay, in addition to all the other diverse movies they've been producing, and it's so refreshing to have various forms of representation that reflect the network's broad audience.
Not only did they deliver a sweet sapphic romance, but they did it effortlessly, the groundbreaking nature of it so understated in the best of ways.

Overlong and indulgent, but too often skillful to be dismissed outright, “Dragged Across Concrete” feels like an epic act of trolling for liberal audiences.
And I do mean epic: at two hours and 40 minutes, this Mel Gibson and Vince Vaughn-starring story of two cops who decide to rob criminals exceeds any level of patience or tolerance for the poisonous, Maga-friendly ideas that writer-director S. Craig Zahler refuses to acknowledge, much less take responsibility for in his film.
Gibson and Vaughn play Brett Ridgeman and Tony Lurasetti, seasoned detectives who break a fleeing suspect’s nose and belittle his half-naked girlfriend during a drug bust. A neighbor captures the injury on video, leading their superior Lt. Calvert (Don Johnson) to suspend them. The timing is terrible, since Lurasetti is completing payments on an engagement ring for his girlfriend Denise (Tattiawna Jones) and Ridgeman’s daughter endures a humiliating assault on her way home from school.

Novelist-turned-writer-director S. At last year’s SAG Awards Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale” was the favorite to win Best TV Drama Ensemble, but as you’ll recall it was shockingly bested by NBC’s “This Is Us.” Will the cast, led by Elisabeth Moss, get revenge at this year’s ceremony? Based on Gold Derby’s early racetrack odds, the “Handmaid’s” cast members will all be shouting “Praise be!” when the trophies are handed out January 27, 2019 on TNT and TBS.
SEEEmmy’s biggest lesson of 2018: Vote-splitting is real, and it’s spectacular
Hey, not so fast. Doesn’t the fact that “The Handmaid’s Tale” lost the cast prize last year hurt its chances this time around? Hardly. It’s common for Screen Actors Guild Awards voters to honor shows later in their runs — just look at “This Is Us” which prevailed during the middle of its second season.

Director Jason Reitman, writer Diablo Cody and star Charlize Theron reteam after their semi-successful 2009 drama Young Adult, with another dramatic tale concerning the trials and tribulations of family and motherhood in that of Tully. A film that suffers from a final ten-minute reel that just about derails the interconnected tissue of events leading up to it. A similar issue, depending on one’s opinion that plagued and only affected the final product and initial entertainment of both 10 Cloverfield Lane and Split. Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched “First Blood,” the sixth episode of the second season of “The Handmaid’s Tale.”
This season of “The Handmaid’s Tale” has been an explosive one, and the sixth episode lived up to that promise, ending with a bang — literally as the second Ofglen the show has introduced (Tattiawna Jones) walked into a meeting strapped with a suicide vest and blew herself up, along with a number of handmaids and commanders.
“We were surprised that they had access to this kind of thing, so what does this mean? That’s the question I wanted everybody to ask,” showrunner Bruce Miller tells Variety.
Noting that this particular handmaid never appeared to be connected to the resistance before, Miller says the important things to think about now is not just how she got her hands on items needed for a bomb...

This new look at the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning drama “The Handmaid’s Tale” indicates that we may be in for a grim ride when Season 2 premieres on Hulu this April — but it may be just what we need.
The dystopian drama, which debuted to much critical acclaim last year in the midst of what’s been an incredibly charged political climate, looks set to continue expanding the world of Margaret Atwood’s classic novel, set in a society where women have been stripped of all rights.
The ensemble cast, led by Elisabeth Moss as the fiercely rebellious June, also includes Madeline Brewer, Amanda Brugel, Ann Dowd, O. T. Fagbenle, Joseph Fiennes, Tattiawna Jones, Max Minghella, Yvonne Strahovski, and Samira Wiley. Moss and Dowd won Emmys for their respective roles in Season 1, with Moss also winning Best Actress in a Drama at the 2018 Golden Globes, accompanying the series’ win for Best Drama.

Here's another outstanding short film, featuring two of the most talented up-and-coming actresses around. Tatiana Maslany (from "Heartland", "Orphan Black", Two Lovers and a Bear, Stronger) plays a woman that has been gone for two years, including a stint in rehab, who returns to "face the emotional fallout of her disappearance and make amends with the girlfriend", and her brother. The cast includes Tattiawna Jones and Sergio Dizio. The short film is inspired by J.D. Salinger's story Franny and Zooey, it's an homage that becomes something of its own that speaks volumes about the trials and tribulations of love in today's world. It's enlivening to see Maslany continue to push herself with even deeper, and more complex performances. Thanks to Short of the Week for the tip. When it comes to the SAG Awards, size often matters. The most massive casts often run off with the ensemble prizes, which explains how “Lost” found victory at the 2005 ceremony, and how “Downton Abbey” (2012) was able to take down two-time champ “Boardwalk Empire” (2010-2011). This year, however, Gold Derby’s SAG TV predictions favor Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale” to prevail despite having the second-smallest cast. Are we crazy for going against bigger ensembles?
“The Handmaid’s Tale” boasts 10 cast members on the voting ballot, ahead of only Netflix’s “The Crown” at five. Comparatively, the other nominated dramas each feature more than a dozen actors: HBO’s “Game of Thrones” at 30, Netflix’s “Stranger Things” at 17 and NBC’s “This Is Us” at 13. In recent years “Game of Thrones” and “Downton Abbey” always had the biggest casts, with “Downton” beating the HBO fantasy series in 2014 and 2015.

Rural, small town crime dramas have become a genre unto themselves over the past few years, recently epitomized in the largely flawless second season of FX’s adaptation of Fargo. Although the beats remain the same, it’s hard to argue against the viewer satisfaction that comes from witnessing cataclysmic events ravaging a traditionally pristine, podunk town in some godforsaken stretch of the country.

Attendees of South by Southwest 2012 are in for a treat. 130 feature films will screen at the Austin, Texas festival taking place March 9-17. Among them are 65 World Premieres, 17 North American Premieres and 10 U.S. Premieres. The organization already announced [1] Drew Goddard and Joss Whedon's The Cabin in the Woods would open the festival (the movie is phenomenal [2]) and today the majority of the remaining line up has been revealed. One of the highlights is the unbelievably smart and hilarious 21 Jump Street, directed by Phil Lord & Christopher Miller. Both of those are World Premieres. Other highlights include The Hunter, Killer Joe, The Babymakers, frankie goes boom, God Bless America, The Imposter, The Raid, Bernie and Casa de mi Padre just to name a few. After the jump, read descriptions of all the films that have been announced so far. Before I copy and paste the rest of the list, a few minor notes.
