Ahmedabad, March 4 (Ians) While India spinners once again took the honours picking up eight wickets, it was Mohammed Siraj's energy, consistency and nagging line that helped the hosts grab two most important wickets – no. 3 Jonny Bairstow and no. 4 Joe Root - to hasten the end of the England innings.
Siraj, who bowled short spells, kept hitting consistent line and length and got the two batsmen out leg-before to rattle the visitors. On top of that, he got into a chat with Ben Stokes to ruffle feathers further.
"The idea was to build pressure. Both Virat (Kohli) and Ishant (Sharma) said that I should bowl at one spot and not try too much (variations). If you build pressure, wickets follow," said the right-arm pace bowler who is playing only his fifth Test.
Former India pace bowler Atul Wassan says Siraj is a proper Test match bowler and...

New Delhi, Dec 31 (Ians) Jasprit Bumrah, who will now be the only pace bowler remaining from the India squad of 2018-19 that won the Test series in Australia, will have his hands full going into the last two Tests of the series being the senior-most bowler despite having played just 16 Tests so far.
Bumrah's attempt to extract angles from the round the wicket, like he did in the Melbourne Test and having to bowl more overs in case other junior bowlers don't do well, could push his body that endured a lower-back injury only last year.
Bumrah's returns in the series have been good so far. He has picked eight wickets in two Tests, including a four-wicket haul in the first innings of the Melbourne Test that helped India dismiss the Aussies for just 191.
"He is showing signs of maturity. He is a thinking bowler and despite...

New Delhi, Dec 23 (Ians) Wednesday was a day to forget for the Delhi and District Cricket Association (Ddca) as it copped twin embarrassment. A day after former India captain Bishan Singh Bedi wrote to Delhi's parent cricket body to remove his name associated with the Arun Jaitley Stadium and scrap his membership, he -- and his former Delhi teammate Kirti Azad -- on Wednesday scored a moral victory over an age cap rule that denied Azad the opportunity to become a Delhi selector.
The Ddca seemed to beat a hasty retreat when the issue of the 60-year cap for picking senior selectors for the 2020-21 domestic season was adjudicated by its Ombudsman Justice (retired) Badar Durrez Ahmed, who ruled that the present Ashu Dani-led committee would be allowed to select the Delhi team only for the T20 Syed Mushtaq Trophy that begins on January 10.

New Delhi, Dec 16 (Ians) The wheel has turned a full circle for former India player and national selector Kirti Azad. He campaigned for cleansing of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (Ddca) of corruption when Arun Jaitley headed it for 14 years. Last month, when Jaitley's son became president, Azad sent him a good luck message, and now he has applied for a selector's post.
Azad, 61, says he didn't speak to Rohan Jaitley, 31, before applying for the selector's post. "No (I didn't speak to him), but I sent him a message once he became Ddca president. I wished him all the best. He is young and I have heard he has new ideas, and wanted to start academies etc. So, I suppose when somebody is young, keen to do something, why not help such people," Azad told Ians.

New Delhi, Dec 4 (Ians) For former India pacer Atul Wassan, December comes with bitter-sweet memories vis-a-vis Delhi and District Cricket Association (Ddca). Exactly a year after he was removed as chairman of the senior selection committee, he was appointed chairman of the Ddca's Cricket Advisory Committee (Cac) on Friday. Letting the past behind him, he now wants to "layout a roadmap" for Delhi cricket for at least one-and-a-half years, and end a "selection cartel" that appeases clubs.
The Cac, interestingly, comprises three former India pacers, Robin Singh (junior) and Parvinder Awana being the others. Ddca president Rohan Jaitley has appointed the committee.
Wassan, 52, said he would present his roadmap to Jaitley when he meets him soon and would try and ensure that appeasement in selection is done away with. Besides, he would like to revitalise the system with a long-term view.

Apart from Wassan, Robin Singh Jr and former India bowler Parwinder Awana are the other two members of the Cac.
In a letter signed by newly appointed Ddca president Rohan Jaitley, the association said the committee shall be responsible to "maintain the highest levels of transparency in each and every aspect" as well as make recommendations to the president of the Ddca and the Bcci about tournaments to be held in view of the Covid-19 situation in the national capital.
The committee will also recommend the constitution of the selection committee, coaches, managers and support staff in the Ddca as well as recommend the terms and conditions for the personnel.

New Delhi, Nov 28 (Ians) The Delhi and District Cricket Association (Ddca) on Saturday announced seven more committees, in addition to the finance committee, though the most important panel from the point of view of the upcoming domestic cricket season, the Cricket Advisory Committee (Cac), has not been named so far.
The league and tournament committee, too, has not been announced.
A seven-member finance committee was announced on Monday, and the total number of committees are now eight. It is the most important committee, considering the Ddca's history of financial irregularities, and is headed by Shashi Khanna, wife of former acting Bcci president and ex-vice-president of Ddca, Ck Khanna.
Since the Cac has not been constituted, the selection committees too have not been formed as it is the mandate of the Cac to choose the selectors.

Dubai, Nov 5 (Ians) Mumbai Indians (Mi) skipper Rohit Sharma was dismissed on the first ball during Thursday's Qualifier 1 game against Delhi Capitals (DC), giving ammunition to those in the Indian team management who want him to prove his fitness.
After Sharma's duck on Thursday, people have started asking a question, though not openly as yet: Was it his injury or his lack of form that was the basis of his non-selection in any of the three Indian teams -- Test, Odi, and T20 -- for the upcoming tour of Australia?
Sharma's sequence of scores in this Ipl is: 0, 4, 9, 35, 5, 35, 6, 70, 8, 80, and 12 -- a total of 264, scored at an average of 24 and at a strike rate of 126.31, in 11 matches.
But Sharma's overall Ipl figures are decent enough. Overall, in 199 matches, he has amassed 5,162 runs, scored at at an average of 31.09 and a strike rate of 130.58. He has hit 38 half-centuries and one century.

New Delhi, Oct 14 (Ians) The Indian Premier League (Ipl) this season has seen quite a few young India pace bowlers performing on occasions. While T. Natarajan of SunRisers Hyderabad (Srh) has caught the eye with his consistency, Royal Challengers Bangalore (Rcb) Navdeep Saini has created waves with furious pace and wears his confidence, quite literally, on his shoes -- a statement which says 'F*** it. Bowl fast'.
Both have impressed but have gone different ways. While the absence of Bhuvneshwar Kumar from Srh seems to have put pressure on Natarajan, who missed the last Ipl season due to an injury, the inclusion of Rcb's Chris Morris for the last two matches has given Saini the confidence and breathing space and his game has picked up.
There is similarity between Natarajan and Saini. They are accurate, can bowl good yorkers, and the left-armer Natarajan can almost bowl these...
