When we last saw Justin Kanew, he was racing around the world as a contestant on The Amazing Race.
At the time, he was a writer and film producer. His Race partner, Zev Glassenberg, made headlines as the show’s first contestant with Asperger’s Syndrome. They became fan favorites and were called back to compete in 2011’s Amazing Race: Unfinished Business.
But now Kanew is running a new race: he wants to be the United States Congressman from Tennessee’s 7th District.

Even as society becomes more sensitive to Asperger's syndrome, the diagnosis is being removed from the new version of the Dsm. Lucy Berrington on the decision's unnerving consequences.
It is difficult to think of another neurological diagnosis that has captured the public imagination more powerfully than Asperger's syndrome. In the 17 years since Asperger's joined the parade of neurologically based eccentricities, it has carried the flag for idiosyncrasies of human connection and imparted to the crowds a greater understanding of difference. Recently the spotlight has been on James Durbin-the unlikely rock star of American Idol, just voted off after reaching fourth place-and Zev Glassenberg of The Amazing Race. Both contestants acknowledged they have Asperger's, an autism-spectrum condition. Popular culture, perhaps most notably the NBC series Parenthood, has taken characters and individuals with Asperger's who would otherwise be on the periphery and placed them at the center.

To say the Rio leg on The Amazing Race: Unfinished Business was not made for Zev Glassenberg and Justin Kanew would be an understatement. First, Zev and his "white boy rhythm" clashed with the samba Roadblock and then the best friends — the hairiest team of all — had to endure even more cruel and unusual punishment: waxing. "I don't know if the leg was designed to torture us, but it certainly did do that," Justin tells TVGuide.com. "We're going to give them the benefit of the doubt that they didn't throw that waxing thing in there when they saw that we were in the final four." Still, there are no hard feelings — just a little bleeding — since "the Race doesn't decide how hairy we are."

The Amazing Race concluded its 18th season and second all-star season with two back-to-back episodes that ended in the Florida Keys with the $1 million prize going to sisters Jen and Kisha Hoffman. The Globetrotters came in second, followed by father/daughter team Gary and Mallory. Friends Zev and Justin were knocked out in the penultimate leg. Jen and Kisha won having performed consistently, if unmemorably, this entire season. They're the second all-female team to win,...

After five continents, 23 cities, 40,000 miles, some ridiculous kangaroo suits, plates of greasy wiener schnitzel, and Kent’s unbelievably terrifying eyebrows, The Amazing Race: Unfinished Business reached its conclusion Sunday night with an intermittently tense, occasionally emotional finale.
The opening hour took the competitors from Switzerland to Rio de Janeiro, where the field was winnowed down from four teams to three. The leg started out poorly for Flight Time and Big Easy, who missed a train connection thanks to a sluggish cab driver, giving a 30-minute head start to the three remaining teams. But things quickly went Cape Horn-level south for...

Great cast, great beginning, slow ending.
Compared to the previous seventeen seasons, this was probably the best season we’ve ever seen. Teams like Flight Time and Big Easy, Jet and Cord, Zev and Justin and Gary and Mallory carried the show. Watching them race was high entertainment from start to finish.
Unlike Survivor, however, The Amazing Race is as much a product of the course that is laid out as it is of the people who race it. No matter how entertaining the people are, if the course is not dynamic, there’s only so much the racers can do.
The start of The Amazing Race: Unfinished Business was chock full of dynamic challenges, interesting legs and surprises. As the number of teams got whittled down, the legs became less creative. By the second hour of the finale, the last leg of the race, we watched a leg where...

My Random Thoughts:
- Previously on The Amazing Race, a reminder of the demise of each of the remaining four teams in their original seasons, and a recap of the 7 teams eliminated so far this season, who will all be relegated to lining the finish line and applauding as if they care who wins. But, at least I got to see the footage of Luke melting down at the tea challenge once again, and that makes me happy. I wonder what he got Margie for Mother’s Day, clearly the most important day of the year for these two…I picture it as kind of...

"The Amazing Race: Unfinished Business" has crowned Kisha and Jen as the winners. On the episode aired on Mother's Day (Sunday, May 8), it was revealed that the sisters completed the final leg first and won $1 million which they will use to help their mom out.
The race started off with the four teams departing from Switzerland to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. There, they faced Road Block where one team member must learn to dance samba. Dressing in carnival costumes, they later led a parade.
Mallory was the first to finish the Road Block. She and Gary then headed to Copacabana. Meanwhile, Zev was struggling with the dance and had to learn the dance three times until he nailed it. At that time, Gary and Mallory had already discovered the next clue. All team members must endure 15 minutes of a Brazilian Waxing session.

Sixteen seasons without an all-female team winning "The Amazing Race" and now twice in two seasons it's been done, as sisters Jen and Kisha took home the million dollar prize from "Unfinished Business," just a season after Nat and Kat won Season 17. Jen and Kisha are, of course, the first team of sisters to win. This is the first leg they won the entire race.
It's apropos their victory aired on Mother's Day, as they are going to use the money to help their mom out. But let's see how we got there ...
The final 3 came down to sisters Jen/Kisha, Globetrotters Flight Time and Big Easy and father/daughter Gary and Mallory. The fourth-place team was Justin and Zev, who chose poorly on the Detour in Brazil and just couldn't make up the time.

The Amazing Race: Unfinished Business comes to a close tonight as the remaining four teams race to the finish line in Florida. The final episode, which begins at 8/7c on CBS, will see the teams leaving Switzerland for Brazil, before eventually returning to the familiar shores of the Us. The network has already teased that one of the final challenges will have the racers "[crying] out in pain" as they endure a wax on their final leg in the race around the world to win $$1 million. This season's Amazing Race, hosted by Phil Keoghan, featured eleven fan favourite teams returning for a second chance at the grand prize. The final four teams in the running are: father-and-daughter Gary & Mallory, Harlem Globetrotters Flight Time & Big Easy, best friends Zev (more)...

Only four teams remain on The Amazing Race: Unfinished Business. I can't believe it! Zev and Justin, Kisha and Jen, Gary and Mallory, and Flight Time and Big Easy have made it to the final four. Will this finale end in a lot of traffic like finales past? I feel like they're always stuck in traffic.

After a Travelocity product placement ("Where should we go on our trip, Big Easy?" "This looks amazing!"), the teams get a clue sending them to Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Zev and Justin just need to remember their passports, and Gary and Mallory can't get lost for nine hours. This episode begins at the base of the Matterhorn, a mildly phallic looking mountain in Switzerland that was also recreated as an amusement park ride in Disneyland. Five teams remain in the scramble around the world for a second chance at a million dollars. So far, the teams have endured wading around in frigid mud pits and cow manure, but the viewers have endured something even more appalling: Kent and Vyxsin’s constant high-pitched histrionics and toddler-like tantrums. It almost makes us want Ron back.
As snow swirls around them, the teams head to a heli-pad to be airlifted to the detour challenge. Zev and Justin are the first team to take off, with Jen and Kisha close behind.
The squabbling Goths, as usual, intend to go through the entire leg with a good attitude. In fact, they even put on extra glitter to match the snow. The extra shine isn’t enough,...

Sunday's episode of The Amazing Race had a fantastic ending, and not just because Kent Kaliber and Vyxsin Fiala were finally eliminated after yet another screw-up and in the middle of yet another argument. The past few seasons of The Amazing Race occasionally foreshadowed that week’s leg with clips from the team’s pre-leg interviews.
This was certainly true on this week’s episode "Too Many Cooks in the Kitchen," but an even trickier foreshadowing moment occurred right after the Detour.
At the beginning of this week’s episode Justin commented “Ever since we hit the cold weather we’ve been running first.” Was that a sign that Zev and Justin would win another leg if they stayed in cold weather? Or perhaps the opposite if they were sent to warm weather?
Similarly, Kent commented “I feel like we become a better team the longer this race goes on”. Had the Dating Goths talked out how they needed to act to be successful? Would Kent and Vyxsin finally have a drama free leg?
Typically the foreshadowing on The Amazing Race is not as...

Who’d have thought that an extended product placement segment starring the Travelocity gnome and some mellow Swiss chocolate makers could yield a bubbling cauldron of intrigue, drama, and hurt feelings? But that’s exactly what went down on Sunday night’s installment of The Amazing Race: Unfinished Business.

Kent and Vyxsin have become the latest team sent home on "The Amazing Race". In the May 1 episode, all contestants faced one of the toughest legs as they went on an adventure amid the freezing weather in Switzerland. First, the teams headed to the air rescue helicopter port in Zermatt where they boarded on helicopter that departed in five minute intervals.
From Zermatt, they went to a mountain next to the Matterhorn where they had to choose between Search or Rescue for detour. In Search, teams had to locate a training dummy that was buried somewhere on the mountain. Meanwhile in Rescue, teams were required to use a device and rescued a mountaineer by repelling down a crevice.
Kisha and Jen, Flight Time and Big Easy, and Kent and Vyxsin picked Rescue, while Zev and Justin as well as Gary and Mallory opted for Search. Kisha and Jen learned that...

There was a lot written and talked about last week about the other teams “cheating” by sharing information on the last leg of the Race, causing the beloved Cowboys to be eliminated. Cries of “I’m never watching this show again” echoed around the Amazing Race Universe in the days following the airing of the episode.
Look, there was nothing in the rules (or in the Detour instructions) that said that the answer had to be calculated/gathered/figured out "on your own."
What about if two of the teams decided at the beginning of the Detour to ride together, and figure it out together? Is that cheating? There have been numerous instances where teams have worked together on a task...this is, and should be, an accepted form of an alliance in Tar.

This leg of The Amazing Race started in Liechtenstein, a tiny country with the second highest gross domestic product per person in the world. No one really knows it exists, unless you are disgustingly wealthy and don’t want to live in Dubai.
The first task was straightforward: “measure Liechtenstein.” One member of each team was asked to traverse the itsy bitsy country on an itsy bitsy scooter. After riding through the Alps looking like a real life Looney Tunes character, each rider was required to estimate, in kilometers, the length of the country.
Justin arrived first and gave the correct answer: 22 kilometers. Jen overheard Justin and repeated the number. Then both Justin and Jen met their teammates at Gutenberg castle and zoomed off via train to Zermatt, Switzerland, a city at the base of the Matterhorn, which is a really tall and famous mountain in the Alps. True confessions time: I found myself frustrated and disappointed at the end of Sunday night’s installment of The Amazing Race: Unfinished Business. It didn’t help that my second-favorite team had been eliminated, but ultimately, it was the way they met their demise that didn’t sit right with me.
Early in the episode, the six remaining teams faced a Road Block in which one member had to measure the entire length of Lichtenstein on a motorized bicycle, then reveal the correct distance (22 km) to Olympic skiier Marco Buchel in order to receive the next clue. “The map is pretty straightforward.

Watching the end of this week’s leg of The Amazing Race: Unfinished Business I now know what it must feel like to have to choose between your two children: awful.
The reality that the cowboys were going to be towards the back of the pack, if not last, was evident very early after Jet messed up the Roadblock. However, we were able to dream that another team would get U-Turned as well and Jet and Cord could use their speed to make up ground, pass a team and avoid a last place finish.
As the Detour wore on, however, it became obvious that a worst case scenario was developing. The cowboys would be U-Turned, alright. But one by one each of the teams I wanted to see forced to do the other half of the challenge - Kent and Vyxsin, Kisha and Jen or Gary and Mallory – skated by...

The Sunday, April 24 episode of "The Amazing Race: Unfinished Business" started off in Austria where six remaining teams caught a train to Liechtenstein. Once arriving there, they faced a Road Block which told them to measure the entire length of the country on a motorized bike (a Solex), using an odometer and a map.
Gary and Mallory, who arrived in last place in previous leg, faced Speed Bump in this Road Block. They had to make fuel for their Solex with gas and oil as the extra task. Justin was the first who guessed the distant correctly, followed by Jen who heard his guess. Once Justin collected Zev and Jen was back with Kisha, the two teams were on board a train to Zermatt, Switzerland where they faced a detour.
Gary, Vixen and Flight Time all finished at the same time since they helped each other with the correct mileage.

Tonight's episode of The Amazing Race finds the six remaining teams heading off to Liechtenstein and Switzerland for a Cheese Feast and Motorcycle Ride. Will Gary and Mallory be able to overcome their Speed Bump? Let's get to it.
My Random Thoughts:
- This week’s episode started off with a continuation of last week’s commercial for the all-new “2012 Ford Focus”, as Zev and Justin took a tour of the spiffy new vehicles that they won last week. Ok, ok…I’ll admit defeat and just accept the overt product placement this season, by let me ask you an interesting question about those cars: Why did they have Michigan plates? If you’re going to give away a car in Austria, are you really going to ensure that the plates are from Detroit? The Motor City? God Bless America,...

Sunday’s episode of The Amazing Race saw the six remaining teams leave India and head to the land that produced two of the biggest badasses in history – Mozart and The Terminator. Willkommen in Österreich! That’s “Welcome to Austria!” for those who never took German or who are too lazy to use Google Translate.
Five teams boarded an early flight route to Vienna, Austria, while the cowboys decided to take a later flight route that had fewer layovers, believing that less layovers was the safer option. Unfortunately for the Cowboys, there were no heart attacks or engine hiccups on the earlier flight route, so they were dead last upon arrival.
When the teams landed, they were asked to jump into a – surprise, surprise – Ford Focus and drive in reverse to retrieve the next clue. The letters on the ground spelled out "Schloss Schallaburg," which, based on the sheer number of consonants,...

Sunday night’s installment of The Amazing Race: Unfinished Business contained one of those Detours that seemed as easy as choosing between a soothing massage or a thwack in the stomach with a two-by-four. And yet midway through their travels in Vienna, Austria (or according to the Globetrotters “where the Terminator is from”), three of the six remaining teams — Zev and Justin, Kisha and Jen, and Gary and Mallory — shocked me by opting for “quick, easy meal” over “long, hard walk.” Maybe it’s just me, but whenever a food challenge crops up on Amazing Race, it seems like there...

After seven tremendous legs, The Amazing Race: Unfinished Business finally had a disappointing leg. Many of the facets of the previous legs that made them so interesting and challenging were missing from the eighth leg.
For starters, the previous seven legs featured difficult challenges that forced the leading teams to be efficient or risk allowing the trailing teams to get back in the race.
Heading to the Roadblock this week, Gary hoped aloud that the challenge would be difficult allowing him and Mallory to get back in to the race.
The chimney sweeping Roadblock was fun and culturally interesting, but didn’t shake up the standings at all.
To be fair, the Detour prior to the Roadblock was definitely challenging and provided some drama to the leg. Who would have guessed that the Quick and Easy Meal option was virtually impossible?
Fortunately for Jet and Cord, they didn’t choose it.

From India, "The Amazing Race: Unfinished Business" moved to Vienna, Austria. Five teams got on a flight that arrived earlier than the cowboys who took a flight that only required one connection.
The teams were given 2012 Ford Focuses that have a video message from Phil telling them to use the My Ford Touch system. The clue led them to Schloss Schallaburg, a castle where they found the next clue. From the castle, the teams got another clue which sent them to the National Library where they faced a detour.
The teams had to pick between Long Hard Walk and Quick and Easy Meal. For "Long Hard Walk," they would carry a couch through town. As for "Quick & Easy Meal", teams had to eat a bunch of food on a ferris wheel in 12 minutes.
The Globetrotters and the Goths chose to move the couch which turned out to be easier than the ferris wheel challenge.

6 teams are left on The Amazing Race, and this week they all headed off to Austria. Which teams can't stomach the local cuisine? Who's having a major drama queen meltdown? And where the hell is Julie Andrews?
My Random Thoughts:
- All 6 of the teams left the Pit Stop within 90 minutes of each other, and considering that they were traveling from India to Austria, and all leaving in the middle of the night, the flight situation was once again going to be the Great Equalizer as the teams could all end up on the same flights. All the teams ended up at the awesomely named Akbar Travel Agency, which, despite the alternate spelling, only made me think of one thing...
Mallory found out it was going to be cold in Austria and just went with "Rats!" instead of a full-on shriek like usual.

Last week on The Amazing Race, Margie and Luke were eliminated and were forced to walk the trail of Luke’s copious tears into the sunset. Seven teams remain. Welcome back to Kolkata, a city of 15 million people and 15 million decibels, which left Zev semi-paralyzed in the bustling streets, covering his ears in pain. Meanwhile, Gary and Mallory, who won the last leg of the race, were treated to an authentic Indian meal, featuring the very authentic Indian tea brand Snapple.
Next, the teams were told to depart Kolkata for their next destination: Varanasi, a holy city on the banks of the Ganges. The Cowboys wandered up to a ticket counter and asked for the earliest flight to Varanasi; they ended up on a flight that landed an hour behind the six other pairs. “When I look into a man’s eyes as he’s telling me something, I believe him,...

I began the current season of The Amazing Race: Unfinished Business as a somewhat casual observer, not so invested in any one all-star team that I felt ready to declare my undying allegiance. But seven episodes in, I’m finding myself gripping the sides of my couch hoping that father-daughter duo Gary and Mallory aren’t the last ones to see Phil Keoghan’s sombre mug at the weekly Pit Stop.
Part of my allegiance has to do with Mallory’s unwavering enthusiasm and priceless facial expressions. During Sunday night’s “Feed the Fire” detour — in which teams had to create 50 manure discs,...

The Amazing Race: Unfinished Business returns from its one-week hiatus as the remaining seven teams depart Kolkata for the Indian city of Varanasi - a holy place situated on the banks of the River Ganges - where they have to locate a tonga stand containing their next clue. Fresh from their night of luxury thanks to a first-place pitstop finish, Gary & Mallory leave first, desperate to be the first parent/child team to win. The cowboys think they have worked out the kinks in their gameplan and are getting stronger, while Zev admits that he's ready to leave India because he doesn't like being surrounded by so many people. "Kolkata is called Kal-crowded," he tells Justin. Gary & Mallory, Ron & Christina, Zev & Justin, Kisha & Jen and the Globetrotters all secure a 10.45am Kingfisher flight at the airport ticket desk, while the Goths book the (more)...

['The Amazing Race: Unfinished Business' - 'You Don't Get Paid Unless You Win' (Varanasi, India)]
The game kept 'The Amazing Race' teams in India for one more leg, but moved them into a more spiritual realm with the shift in scenery from Kolkata to Varanasi. Along the Ganges River, Varanasi is a city where people live and come for religious and spiritual enlightenment.
It's also just as crowded, if not more so, than Kolkata, which made Zev incredibly uncomfortable. Not a lot is made of Zev's Asberger's Syndrome, but you know it has to have an impact on him in some of these situations. Nevertheless, he never really falters because of it. Mallory helped him out at one point with some earplugs to drown out the crowds.

After a week hiatus, "The Amazing Race" returned on April 10 with the contestants continuing their journey in India. They had to depart for the Tonga Stand in Varanasi as the first challenge. Jet and Cord arrived the last because they took a flight that arrived an hour after everyone else, but they managed to complete all the tasks before Ron and Christina.
For the Road Block, the teams had to find six men to collect a piece of paper from each to create the phrase "Once your over the hill you pick up speed." Ron and Christina were already left behind in this task because Ron spent too much time in the wrong area.
The clue sent the teams to Tulsi Ghat for a Detour where they had to choose between "feed the fire" or "feed the buffalo". For Feed the Fire, the teams had to make manure patties and slap them on a wall,...

The Amazing Race returned on Sunday night after a week away due to the Academy of Country Music Awards, which were held in Las Vegas last week. Ironically, I was in Las Vegas at the same time (not attending the awards), although I did Just miss Carrie Underwood at the Wynn on Sunday night. I appreciated the coincidence that the week that the show wasn’t on, was the one week that I was away on vacation, so the recap I wouldn’t have been able to write, didn’t have to be written.
One fun thing that did happen on this trip actually did involve The Amazing Race, however. Remember back in Season 15, when on the final leg of the Race, the teams were in Las Vegas and had to count two million dollars in poker chips? Well, that...

The episode opened with the teams still in China and the next clue informed them they are staying there, much to the chagrin of several of the contestants. Their next challenge was to go to Jin Fu Yi Zhan Tea Shop to sip some tea. Cut to several less than fascinating scenes of the players lounging around sipping tea. The excitement was so palpable that I nodded off and woke up to the sight of the teams painting pink elephants that looked suspiciously like the Goths in Kolkata, India. Uh oh. Time to rewind the DVR.
Back to China, my friends! Little did the teams know that one of the teas in the “challenge,” the papaya-mango tea, would become the focal point in the next challenge and the bane of their existence. If you don’t like this season of The Amazing Race, we can’t be friends.
We’re just six episodes, only four official legs, in to the 18th season of The Amazing Race and I’m already satisfied. Every leg has been competitive. This leg was no exception. All of the teams are funny, interesting to watch and good competitors. I’m not even rooting for Ron and Christina’s demise anymore, as I once was.
As an avid watcher of reality shows I can say that an All-Star-esque season always seems to work. Survivor is three-for-three in different iterations of the idea (four-for-four if you want to count this season). The Amazing Race hit a home run with its first run at an All-Star season and this version has been better.

The preview for this week’s episode of The Amazing Race teased a major meltdown by Luke at one of the tasks for this leg of the Race. Could I actually be that lucky? To have the ultimate Mama’s Boy eliminated on the same day as the North Carolina Tar Heels were bounced from the Ncaa Tournament? Let’s find out.
My Random Thoughts:

Unlike the globe that it’s trotting, the current season of The Amazing Race: Unfinished Business has been disappointingly flat over the course of its initial five episodes. Sure, Mallory’s scream-and-grunt approach to the game never ceases to make me chuckle, and I’ll also admit I’m glad that the cowboys righted their ship and would up checking in first to this week’s pit stop. But for some reason, Tar‘s typical clutch-the-couch-cushion thrill has been muted for me during this all-star edition.

One of the best quotes from one of the best movies, Happy Gilmore, is a perfect summation of what was biggest factor in the finish of this week’s episode of The Amazing Race: Unfinished Business. Those who didn’t, such as herself, came dangerously close to elimination.

Here is Sean Furfaro's recap of The Amazing Race, Episode 5
Last week’s episode of The Amazing Race ended with seven teams continuing on in the Race after the Pit Stop, Zev and Justin still working on the final task, while Kent and Vyxsin tried to convince a speeding bus to turn around so they could look for their fannypack, which they left behind.
A lot of people have commented that they don’t like the “double legs” that we’ve been seeing so far this season. I actually like them, and think it’s a nice change to see the teams have to keep going without being able to rest. These teams have all done the Race before, and I’m all for making it as hard as possible for them this time around. However, if we end up seeing a double leg turn into a Non-Elimination leg, that will piss me off.

I pity the poor editor in charge of trying to inject a little suspense into Sunday night’s installment of The Amazing Race: Unfinished Business. I mean, with Goth/Sims people Kent and Vyxsin misreading their compass, driving wildly off course, and missing a mandatory flight from Japan to China, they were at a five-and-a-half-hour deficit before a single task had been completed. “It really is a million-dollar question,” said Zev, wondering where his competitors had gone. “Either they’re on a kabuki show or super, super lost.” Kent and Vyxsin eventually made up a ton of ground — I’m...

"The Amazing Race", for the second time this season, aired a continuation leg on Sunday, March 13 but it looks like dating goths Kent and Vyxsin may face a bitter truth next week. By the time the episode was wrapped, they were in a huge mess for they lost their fanny bag, containing money and passports, and missed the "required flight".
Preview for next week's episode shows the couple backtracking their steps with Kent thinking they left the bag in the gondola. "We'll never see that bag again," skeptical Vyxsin said during the bus ride. Nevertheless, another team, Zev and Justin, were also still out on the course and have not stepped on the matt.
In the meantime, Margie and Luke came as number one and won a trip to Aruba. Since the race has not stopped, they received the next clue which directs them to Kunming, China.

Now this is what I’m talking about.
In the 18th edition of The Amazing Race we’re finally being treated to a race that has been difficult throughout and seems to be getting harder. Historically, the whole of the race has always been challenging, but occasionally had some legs that the best teams would just breeze through. Not this season. Not for The Amazing Race: Unfinished Business.
At first glance, this week’s leg wasn’t all that difficult. The travel between Tokyo and Lijiang, China was interesting, but mostly because Vyxsin had her first of many emotional break downs to come. The Roadblock was difficult solely for Zev and Vyxsin with the latter once again breaking down. The Detour didn’t seem to be hard for anyone, particularly if they chose the candy option.
But, that’s the best part of this episode: the leg’s not over!

Here is Sean Furfaro's recap of The Amazing Race, Episode 4.
In last week’s Amazing Race recap, I talked about the unfairness of the penalty that was handed to Flight Time and Big Easy. Not that it was undeserved, but that the way it went down was unfair. If it was an offense that warranted a penalty, then it should have been assessed when The Globetrotters hit the mat, not after Ron and Christina whined about it to Phil.
Again, it's not the point That they got penalized, but When they got penalized. It's like driving by a police officer doing 75 in a 65 zone, and not getting a ticket...but later he gives you the ticket because the guy behind you said you were doing 75 in a 65. Ridiculous. I'm surprised it wasn't addressed in this episode.

This week's episode of The Amazing Race began as the teams disembarked from a train to Sydney to take a flight to Tokyo. There were two choices: take a direct flight to Tokyo arriving at 6:15 or take a flight with a connection in Hong Kong arriving 15 minutes earlier. Although the connecting flight was riskier, five teams (including Mel and Mike) decided to take the flight through Hong Kong. Realizing that they comprised one of the least athletic teams in the race, Mel and Mike decided to take the risk of the connecting flight to shave 15 minutes off. After all: No risk, no reward.
But then sometimes you take a risk, and you still get bupkis. The connecting flight had engine problems and was delayed 90 minutes in Hong Kong. Said Mike, “It was a dog fight for last.”
The teams picked up miniature Japanese cars, which the Globetrotters could barely fit into,...
