- Harold "Iggy" Ige was born in 1941 in Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii. Iggy moved with his family to Oahu at age four and first started surfing at age nine in Waikiki. Harold began shaping surfboards two years later. Following graduation from high school in 1960, Iggy moved to Southern California and worked for both Greg Noll Surfboards and Velzy Surfboards. Harold went on to shape boards for noted surfer and surfboard maker Dewey Weber in 1963. Moreover, Iggy likewise excelled as an especially graceful and athletic surfer who was a finalist in the 1965 Laguna Swimwear Masters contest. Weber introduced the Harold Iggy signature surfboard model in 1966. After returning to Hawaii in 1969, Harold started his own surfboard brand as well as began making sailboards in the early 1980's before changing over to paddleboards in the early 2000's. In addition, Iggy hooked up with esteemed surfboard maker Rick Naish in the latter half of the 1970's and formed the Naish surfboard brand in 1979. Harold died from a heart attack at age 71 on January 4, 2012 while paddling out on a surfboard off the waters of Oahu, Hawaii.- IMDb Mini Biography By: woodyanders

- For me going to California was a good move. I knew I had a job and I knew people already. The biggest challenge was the cold.
- [on shaping surfboards by hand] Shaping boards is the only job I've ever done. Back in the 70's people used to say when you shape a board, you put your soul into it or some spiritual stuff like that. I kinda laughed but when you shape, you do get really tired. It's so much more work than machine shaping not only because it's hard labor, but because you put all out. When you say shaping, it's not just shaping using the planer. You touch it, listen to the way it's cutting, I have to hear and feel it. Otherwise I can't tell the details. Maybe you put mana into the board by hand shaping. That's why you get exhausted.
