Ryan Murphy's Fox procedural "9-1-1" is billed as a show about heroes. More specifically, the show follows first responders — firefighters, 911 operators, and cops on the front lines of disasters. As such, the audience is always encouraged to root for the main characters as they face danger and emotional devastation to get the job done. That doesn't mean that every character in the show is endlessly lovable, of course. These first responders all have their demons to contend with — demons they must put aside while in the field.
If "9-1-1" were filled with totally unlikable characters, it wouldn't work. This is a show about selfless people who run toward the fire, not away from it. Nonetheless, while every character in the series gives 100 percent to the job, their personal lives are another matter. Some characters deal with their problems better than others, and that's what makes the show interesting. Nobody's perfect,...

(Warning: This post contains spoilers for Monday’s episode of “9-1-1.”)
“9-1-1” has offered us a lot of backstory episodes over its first three seasons and on Monday, Ryan Murphy’s Fox first-responder drama finally got around to revealing Eddie Diaz’s past in an installment aptly titled “Eddie Begins.”
Viewers first learned that Eddie (played by Ryan Guzman) was a vet when he joined Station 118 back in Season 2 and that he’s struggled through the difficulties of raising his young son with cerebral palsy, Christopher (Gavin McHugh), alone since his wife Shannon (Devin Kelley) first left them and then returned only to die in a freak accident. But this episode showed us the actual darkness Eddie faced while in combat — and at home when his son was born.

Connie Britton’s character Abby Clark left “9-1-1” — and her boyfriend Buck (Oliver Stark) — at the end of its freshman season to go travel and find herself and live her best life. And the “Nashville” alum hasn’t returned to the Fox first-responder drama since. But now there’s some hope that Britton could be coming back to the show when its third season returns from hiatus this spring.
The series is building “to a very exciting return of a certain character for at least an episode or two” in the back half of Season 3, “9-1-1” showrunner Tim Minear told TheWrap during the Television Critics Association press tour Tuesday, while promoting the show’s upcoming spinoff, “9-1-1: Lone Star.”

When it was announced last month that Chelsea, the Netflix talk show hosted by Chelsea Handler, would end after its current season, Handler said she was leaving the show to devote more time to her activism. The CW has a "super" new lineup for Fall 2016-2017, including the arrival of "Supergirl," which appears to be making a smooth transition from CBS on the same night and time, plus "Supernatural" moving once again for Season 12, this time back to Thursdays. The network really wants to keep fans on their toes with that show (which also has new showrunners). Whatever. Fans will follow it wherever it goes, even if it gets traded to CBS like a network fantasy league.
The president of The CW, Mark Pedowitz, issued a statement with the schedule release:
"We have four terrific additions to our schedule next season, and five great anchors at eight o'clock, every night of the week. [...] We are thrilled to have Supergirl on The CW this fall, joining our popular roster of DC heroes. Plus, we have three new series lined up for next season that perfectly fit our brand,...

The show about people returning from the dead -- is now dead itself. ABC has cancelled their Resurrection TV series after two seasons on the air.
On Resurrection, a small town in Missouri is turned upside down when long-dead loved ones return after 30 years. The cast includes Omar Epps, Frances Fisher, Matt Craven, Devin Kelley, Mark Hildreth, Samaire Armstrong, Sam Hazeldine, Landon Gimenez, and Kurtwood Smith.
The series debuted well but the ratings declined over the course of its first season -- averaging a 2.52 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 9.32 million viewers. The network brought it back anyway and the second season debut was down by more than 40% when compared to the series debut.

Last spring, this ABC show fell in the ratings over the course of its first season. The network renewed Resurrection anyway. Was that a mistake? Will the ratings keep falling so that it's cancelled? Or, will they rise so that it'll be renewed for a third season? Stay tuned.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show's likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available -- usually the next day, around 11:30am Est/8:30am Pst. Refresh to see the latest.

Late in the 2013-14 season, NBC and ABC launched three new Sunday night dramas -- all with single word titles. NBC cancelled Crisis and Believe while ABC renewed Resurrection for a second season. In retrospect, was that a good decision for the alphabet network? Should Resurrection have been cancelled as well?

Resurrection Season One DVD Review
Resurrection seems like the epitome of a series that didn’t expect to last past the first four episodes. When I wrote my original review of the show, and gave it a high rating, I said the show’s great weakness to that point was that it didn’t seem to want to commit to how weird it was going to be. It creates an opening within the first few episodes that leave viewers unable to be confident that it is about to lean toward the very weird, or toward an almost straight, “normal” drama that just happens to involve very abnormal events.
That isn’t even a problem in one sense, because not knowing where things are going isn’t a bad theory. Where it becomes tricky is insofar as viewers want to know just how goofy the twists and turns are apt to become.

This show doesn't need reviving. ABC has renewed their new Resurrection TV series for a second season.
On Resurrection, a small town in Missouri is turned upside down when deceased loved ones start to return. The cast includes Omar Epps, Kurtwood Smith, Frances Fisher, Devin Kelley, Matt Craven, Samaire Armstrong, Mark Hildreth, Sam Hazeldine, and Landon Gimenez.
Following a lot of promotion, this drama debuted to a very strong 3.8 rating with 13.9 million viewers. The ratings have fallen quite a bit in the last few weeks but it's still generating positive numbers for ABC. The network has had a tough time filling their Sunday night schedule and this is one of only two new ABC dramas that have had any success in the ratings.
What do you think? Have you been watching this show? Are you glad that it's been renewed...
