A struggling young actor is drawn towards her childhood soulmate’s girlfriend in a cliche-heavy story given a huge lift by a dynamic central performance
A modest yet charming endeavour, Sophia Castuera’s feature-directing debut captures the directionlessness of post-grad life. Fresh out of an acting class, Cal (Ali Edwards) drifts between auditions and house parties, until her path crosses with childhood soulmate Jacob (Clay Singer). Sparks predictably fly between the floundering performer and the long-haired musician – yet Cal unexpectedly finds herself drawn to Jacob’s photographer girlfriend Emily (Lilli Kay). With the unpredictability of desire and attraction, Cal’s romantic conundrum is also imbued with chaos and restlessness, the classic ingredients of the quintessential quarter-life crisis.
At first glance, the film’s central dilemma, as well as its characters, appear to tread all-too-familiar ground. The developing rapport between Cal and Emily, for instance, is not always depicted with depth:...

George C. Wolfe’s biopic of Bayard Rustin (Colman Domingo), the civil rights activist who helped put together one of the largest peaceful protests in American history in 1963, takes on added resonance in the wake of recent violence in Israel and Gaza. The March for Freedom and Jobs on Washington and the current protests around the world in support of Palestinians are separated by decades and origins, and while Rustin doesn’t bridge the gap between these events, it reminds one of how much activism has changed over six decades.
Rustin, which tracks the eight-week breakneck race to get multiple civil rights organizations, like the N.A.A.C.P., to cooperate and get 100,000 peaceful protesters down to the National Mall hums along, at an agreeable tempo. Wolfe and screenwriters Julian Brece and Dustin Lance Black conjure the events in a crowd-pleasing manner. This is a film that doesn’t want for soliloquies.

Colman Domingo is demanding the spotlight for his next film role. The "Candyman" and "Euphoria" actor portrays queer civil rights activist Bayard Rustin in Netflix's upcoming biopic, "Rustin." Per the streamer, the movie will chronicle Rustin's rise as the "architect of 1963's momentous March on Washington," where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his historic "I Have a Dream" speech. According to the movie's trailers, which arrived on Aug. 28 and Oct. 19, "Rustin" is also expected to spotlight some of the obstacles the titular figure faced during his lifetime, including police brutality and criticism over his sexuality.
Rustin, known as one of the greatest organizers in history, "challenged authority, never apologized for who he was, what he believed, or who he desired," per Netflix. And though he made history, the influential figure's accomplishments have seemingly been forgotten - until now.

The March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom is known to most Americans for Martin Luther King’s galvanizing “I Have a Dream” speech. That oratory milestone appears in Rustin, but from the perspective of the title character. He wasn’t in the spotlight that August day in 1963, but Bayard Rustin was the visionary conceptualizer and day-to-day driving force of one of the largest political rallies in American history. A riveting Colman Domingo, reteaming with director George C. Wolfe after Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, inhabits the role of a fascinating man whose name and story should be more widely known.
Working from a screenplay by Julian Breece (When They See Us) and Dustin Lance Black (When We Rise), Wolfe has made an admiring but nuanced feature that doesn’t aim for biopic completism or cause-and-effect formula. And though it doesn’t entirely avoid the awkwardness of explanatory mode, those moments are few,...

Netflix released the teaser trailer and poster for Rustin on the 60th anniversary of the historic March on Washington. Colman Domingo (Fear the Walking Dead) stars as gay civil rights leader Bayard Rustin, the man who organized the march and whose place in history has been largely overlooked since the 1963 march.
“We are committed to the cause of altering the trajectory of this country towards freedom. They either believe in freedom and justice for all – or they do not,” states Domingo as Rustin in the first teaser for the awards-season release.
Joining SAG award nominee Colman Domingo (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom) are Emmy winner Chris Rock as Roy Wilkins, Emmy winner Glynn Turman as A. Philip Randolph, Aml Ameen as Martin Luther King Jr., Gus Halper, Emmy nominee Cch Pounder, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Johnny Ramey, Michael Potts, and Lilli Kay. For Black activists, marching toward freedom in the 1960s meant navigating roadblocks and visceral hatred in order to stand for what was right. In the official teaser trailer for Netflix’s Rustin, Colman Domingo embarks on this journey through the lens of March on Washington architect Bayard Rustin. For the civil rights activist and organizer, his identity as a Black, gay man was never something to be explained away or apologized for. In fact, it only fueled his power.

My fellow Colman Domingo fans, we have much to look forward to. After lending his voice to computer-generated characters in both "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts" and "Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken" earlier this year, the celebrated "If Beale Street Could Talk" and "Euphoria" star will be back in live-action a big way over the coming months, starting with his performance in the biopic "Rustin."
If you don't know the name Bayard Rustin, well, you're not alone. A key figure in the 1960s Civil Rights Movement, Rustin was essentially the architect of the 1963 March on Washington in which Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his iconic "I Have a Dream" speech. He's typically been overlooked (if not completely erased) in public school curriculums due to the fact that he was gay, which also led to him advising people like King from behind closed doors rather than serving openly as one of the faces of the movement itself.

Bringing two projects to Toronto International Film Festival (and likely would’ve been a trio if a certain film didn’t get delayed), Colman Domingo is poised for a major fall. Before The Color Purple arrives at the end of the year, he’ll also be seen in George C. Wolfe’s Rustin and Greg Kwedar’s Sing Sing, both headed to the Canadian Festival. As scripted by Julian Breece and Dustin Lance Black, the first trailer has now arrived for his Bayard Rustin biopic ahead of a theatrical and Netflix release this November.
Here’s the synopsis: “The architect of 1963’s momentous March on Washington, Bayard Rustin was one of the greatest activists and organizers the world has ever known. He challenged authority, never apologized for who he was, what he believed, or who he desired. And he did not back down. He made history, and in turn, he was forgotten.

The first trailer for Rustin, Netflix’s upcoming film about the life and work of Bayard Rustin, the openly gay Black civil rights leader and architect of 1963’s March on Washington, promises to put an end to the history of erasure around the visionary’s legacy.

Directed by DGA award and five-time Tony winner George C. This interview contains spoilers for Yellowstone season 5.
Lilli Kay has earned it.
It wasn’t enough that she was a massive fan of Yellowstone. It wasn’t enough that her stepmother, Piper Parabo, had been cast as a recurring character for the past two seasons. It wasn’t even enough that her father, Stephen Kay, has directed over a dozen episodes of Yellowstone, as well as a handful episodes of Mayor of Kingstown, all the while serving as executive producer for both shows. Lilli, for the longest time, couldn’t even get to visit the set.
“I didn’t [visit] and that was a huge bummer, because it just never worked out. And I was so frustrated because that’s the world I love.” Kay explains. Her father seemingly ignored her pleas for quite some time – “I was begging to just come hang out, but I never got to go.”

There are a lot of befores and afters in television history. Before and after colour transmission, for example, or before and after live broadcasts. And then there are the shows that catalyse great changes: before and after Seinfeld, before and after The Sopranos, before and after Breaking Bad. It’s the last of these that we are still feeling the ripples from: whether it’s Ozark or Happy Valley, TV drama is currently dominated by men thrown in at the deep end, struggling for their lives. And there is no show that takes this more seriously than the Bryan Cranston-led Your Honor.
As the second series opens, Adam Desiato’s death is still raw. His father, Michael (Bryan Cranston), has been impeached and seems to have taken the Unabomber as his grooming icon. He is approached by ambitious agent Olivia (Rosie Perez) who has the Baxter dynasty in her sights.

Spoiler Alert: This post contains spoilers for “Yellowstone” Season 5.
One of the biggest surprises on this season of “Yellowstone” is the introduction of Clara, played by Lilli Kay. The trusted assistant to now-Governor John Dutton (Kevin Costner), who fired everyone but her once he took control, has a firm push and pull with her boss, giving him pro tips about government even when he doesn’t want to hear them. Kay, who also appeared in series such as “Your Honor” and “Chambers,” has fit in quickly on the show, as comfortable in the halls of the state capitol as she is on horseback.
In the wake of the show’s mid-season finale, Variety spoke with Kay about the joys of working alongside a Hollywood legend, how “Yellowstone” is a unique family affair and how she ended up in the series’ first LGBTQ kissing scene.

Paramount Network’s Yellowstone wraps up the first half of season five with episode eight, “A Knife and No Coin.” Episode seven ended with Jamie on the verge of going to war with John and Beth. However, episode eight makes us wait a while to get back to that storyline and instead slips into a flashback of young Rip making his first trip with a dead body to the train station.
John (Josh Lucas) asks what Rowdy said that caused Rip to stand up for Beth. John knows without Rip explaining exactly what was said, and he informs Rip that the only fighting he’ll do in the future is to protect the ranch or someone who works there.
Rip is offered the Yellowstone’s brand and told if he accepts, he’s committed his life to the ranch. In exchange,...

Happy New Year! The last time we checked in with the Duttons, it was before Christmas and Jamie was plotting how to impeach his father. On this week’s mid-season finale — the last episode until summer! — we catch up with some old friends, plan assassinations and say goodbye to some Texas-bound cowboys. Dry your tears and chug some whiskey as you catch up with this week’s recap:
Young Rip (Kyle Red Silverstein) seems pretty confident throwing his first person into the Dutton murder pit. I’d be sweating more! Young John (Josh Lucas) discussing the branding with Young Rip, and the latter’s subsequent acceptance with his fellow cowboys, was heartwarming. After a youth spent wandering, Rip finally has a home and a family!

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 8 “A Knife and No Coin.”] Heading into the Yellowstone midseason finale, Jamie (Wes Bentley) was planning to call a vote to impeach John (Kevin Costner) as governor. Did he go through with it? While John goes to support Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) and protest the pipeline being built under the reservation, Jamie goes before the people of the legislature and assembly and calls for his impeachment, citing his actions (regarding the airport and taxing non-residents) as only in his best interest. They’ll have devastating consequences for their constituents, Jamie claims. “This is why I said he’s not fit for this office,” John says upon hearing the news. But truth will prevail, right? That’s what Clara (Lilli Kay) thinks, but John knows better. It’s “menace” that will win this, and he’ll teach her how to fight with it. With a vote of 67-33 in favor,...

The latest teaser for the second part of the latest season shows John Dutton (Kevin Costner) whipping his ranchers into shape as tensions mount with son Jamie (Wes Bentley), daughter Beth (Kelly Reilly), and Kayce (Luke Grimes). Created by mega-showrunner and Oscar nominee Taylor Sheridan in 2018, “Yellowstone” has since spawned two prequels — “1883” and “1923” — and has shattered records at Paramount Network and Paramount+.
The official logline reads: “Yellowstone” chronicles the Dutton family, led by John Dutton, who controls the largest contiguous cattle ranch in the United States. That's all she wrote, folks.
Well, for the time being at least.
Yellowstone Season 5 is taking a breather, but don't worry, it will return.
During the midseason finale (a first for Yellowstone), it was revealed that the show will return for the summer.
We knew it was going to be a big episode since those of us who cover it didn't get a screener ahead of time.
Of course, that means that you won't get a full review for the episode until later tonight, but you've got this semi-good news to tide you over.
As we rolled into the midseason finale, we were awaiting news about how the rest of the season will play out with new dynamics.
Beth realized just how far in debt the ranch was after apparently sticking her head in the sand and trusting what John trusted -- what worked for the last 100 plus years.

‘Yellowstone’ Actress Lilli Kay Talks About Playing Dutton’s Confidante And A “Lesbian On The Range”
The only Yellowstone character who managed to survive John Dutton’s decision to clean house in the governor’s office was Clara Brewer (Lilli Kay), a green behind the ears assistant who becomes an important ally to the family. It’s a dream role for Kay, whose dad Stephen Kay is a director/EP on the drama while her stepmom Piper Perabo plays Summer, Dutton’s current lover.
“My dad would brag to me about how he was spending every single day with horses and amazing actors,” says Kay, whose credits include Your Honor and Madam Secretary. “I was like, ‘hey, I’m a horse person! I want to come hang out!'”

A lot went down in this week’s episode of Yellowstone, and a few moments really stood out in the scope of the show’s fifth season. Especially the show’s first LGBT kiss.
Yellowstone‘s first LGBT kiss. (Image: Paramount)
The episode started with an intense flashback that explained Rip’s loyalty to John Dutton and the ranch. In his teenage years, Rip (Kyle Red Silverstein) beat a fellow cowboy to death because he spoke crudely about Beth, whom they both liked. In a revelatory moment for the show’s viewers, John (Kevin Costner) agrees to cover up the murder as long as he’s loyal to the Yellowstone Ranch.
>Watch Wes Bentley’s uINTERVIEW Now!
In another difficult scene underscored by Sarah’s (Dawn Olivieri) questionable motives for sleeping with Jamie (Wes Bentley), the two discuss their political agenda. Sarah vows to help Jamie impeach John as the governor of Montana.

Last week’s “Yellowstone” was a leisurely ride through the ranch, which served to illustrate the culture of The Gather, which is basically a community party celebrating cattle branding. [Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 5 “Watch ‘Em Ride Away.”] Honestly? We’re not surprised that Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Summer (Piper Perabo) might have just reached somewhat of an understanding after exchanging punches in the Duttons’ front yard on Yellowstone. Most of “Watch ‘Em Ride Away” is spent preparing for the upcoming branding of the ranch’s cattle — it’s two days, on horseback, no tents, no bedrolls, no bathrooms — and pretty much everyone’s going. John (Kevin Costner) has his assistant Clara (Lilli Kay) cancel his meetings; she’s joining them on the trip and will be the one holding the satellite phone since he can’t be completely out of reach as governor. Monica (Kelsey Asbille) encourages Kayce (Luke Grimes) to go since they and Tate (Brecken Merrill) could use the break after their loss. Even Beth, to Rip’s (Cole Hauser) shock, is joining them, once she secures a...

Cole Hauser and Kevin Costner in ‘Yellowstone’ season 5 episode 5 (Photo Credit: Paramount Network)
Paramount Network’s Yellowstone season five episode five begins with another flashback to a younger John Dutton (Josh Lucas) saddling up and riding out with his men, ready to spend the day herding cattle. Beth briefly joins the guys and after flirting with the ranch hand she previously made out with, she warns Rip to be careful. He’s justifiably standoffish, given Beth’s behavior on what was supposed to have been a date.
Zoom forward to current events and adult Beth (Kelly Reilly) is still having a rough time dealing with how rotten she was to Rip back in those days. Rip (Cole Hauser) is about to head out early, but Beth wants to talk about their relationship back when they were teens. Rip explains that he thinks about today and tomorrow but doesn’t spend time thinking about the past.

I think I’d be too sleepy to make it as a cowboy: They get on those horses so early!
Has Beth been sitting, drinking and smoking all morning, crafting the perfect burn about Summer (Piper Perabo) to deliver to her father?

The opening scene of Paramount Network’s Yellowstone season five episode four confirms Beth’s been taken to jail. Her cellmate’s in rough shape and they exchange brief stories of how they wound up in this predicament.
Jamie (Wes Bentley) arrives to speak with his incarcerated sister, but Beth downplays what happened. “What’s the big f*cking deal, Jamie? I got into a barfight in Boseman. Montana Board of Tourism should put that on f*cking T-shirts,” says Beth (Kelly Reilly).
Jamie points out the tourism board wouldn’t be keen on locals beating up tourists. He also explains this can’t be swept under the rug. Beth’s only hope is that the woman doesn’t file charges. If she doesn’t, then Jamie can ask for mercy based on Beth’s “diminished capacity” to control her f*cking emotions.

The trailer for season two of Showtime’s Your Honor shows Michael Desiato (Bryan Cranston) has let himself go and basically given up following the tragic events in the season one finale. However, he’s not going to be allowed to wallow in his grief, anger, and guilt, as a prosecutor (played by Oscar nominee Rosie Perez) needs his help and won’t take no for an answer.
Michael Stuhlbarg reprises his role as Jimmy Baxter and Hope Davis returns as Gina Baxter. The 10-episode second season also stars Lilli Kay, Jimi Stanton, Benjamin Flores Jr., Andrene Ward-Hammond, Isiah Whitlock Jr., and Keith Machekanyanga. Margo Martindale and Amy Landecker guest star.
Joey Hartstone serves as the showrunner and executive produces along with Bryan Cranston, James Degus, Robert King, Michelle King, and Liz Glotzer. Additional executive producers include Rob Golenberg, Alon Aranya, Ron Ninio, Shlomo Mashiach, Ram Landes, Ron Eilon, and Danna Stern.

Yellowstone continues to be a force in the ratings for Paramount Network.
The highly anticipated Yellowstone Season 5 premiere drew a cumulative 12.1 million viewers.
These numbers include simulcasts on CMT, TV Land, Pop, and Sunday-night encores.
The numbers showcase that interest in the Taylor Sheridan-created drama is not waning.
It's rare for a series to grow exponentially, but the word-of-mouth for the Kevin Costner drama continues to be off the charts.
Last month, the first two episodes launched in theaters as a special fan-focused event that sold out in many locations.
Yellowstone chronicles the Dutton family, led by John Dutton (Kevin Costner), who controls the largest contiguous cattle ranch in the United States.
Amid shifting alliances, unsolved murders, open wounds, and hard-earned respect – the ranch is in constant conflict with those it borders – an expanding town, an Indian reservation, and vicious business rivalries.

Paramount Network’s Yellowstone season five episode two opens with the heartbreaking and devastating scene of Monica and Tate’s car accident. An injured Tate was the only person who wasn’t ejected when Monica’s car and a stranger’s truck ran into a buffalo that wandered onto the road.
Monica (Kelsey Asbille) is in horrible pain as she yells for Tate (Brecken Merrill) to call an ambulance. Tate, who’s already endured so much trauma in his young life, makes the call as Monica screams.
The credits lead into a scene at Kayce’s place, with Kayce (Luke Grimes) gently holding his sleeping wife in bed. He quietly rises to drive Tate somewhere, assuring his son that they’ll be okay but it will take a while to mend. They’ve lost a son and brother,...

There’s no such things as a quiet day on Yellowstone – but as we head into season 5, there’s nothing short of all out war brewing between the battling Dutton family members. It’s just a case of whether everyone is going to make it out of their latest squabbles alive.
Jamie Dutton, played by Wes Bentley, went through the wringer by the end of season 4, with a revenge mission set by adopted sister Beth (Kelly Reilly) resulting in him shooting his biological father Garrett (Will Patton) in the head.
Considering Beth has photographic evidence of his involvement in the murder, and is using it as leverage over Jamie going forward, it’s clearly something he is very clearly not too happy with – and a dire situation he doesn’t want lasting too long.
But of course, since when does a Dutton take anything lying down?
