Exclusive: Senior television literary agent Melissa Orton-Cortez, most recently from CAA, has joined Adventure Media as a manager and partner alongside founding partners Chris von Goetz, James Robins Early and Aaliyah Williams.
This marks a reunion for Orton-Cortez and fellow former lit agents-turned-managers von Goetz and Robins Early who worked together for a decade at ICM Partners prior to the agency’s acquisition by CAA last year when von Goetz and Robins Early left and teamed with Williams to launch Adventure.
Meanwhile, Orton-Cortez transitioned to CAA where she had been for the past year. She was the highest profile departure in the recent round of layoffs at the agency, and a number of companies pursued her over the last couple of weeks. She opted to go with Adventure.
“I’m incredibly excited to be joining Adventure with my dear friends and colleagues,” Orton-Cortez said. “For the last year, I’ve...

You could say that Michael Waldron had to find the glorious purpose in “Loki” when he joined the show as head writer and executive producer. After all, you could really do anything with the God of Mischief (Tom Hiddleston) after he escaped the Battle of New York with the Tesseract during the time heist in 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame,” setting off a new timeline.
“For me, it was first and foremost, this had to be a Loki show,” Waldron tells Gold Derby (watch the exclusive video above). “We had to focus on the character. You could do as cool of a time travel plot as you wanted, but it had to be a show befitting such a great, nuanced character and the tremendous performer who plays him, so my first focus was really on Loki and how could we tell a new story with him. How could we take advantage of...

You made it through the Screen Actors Guild Awards, the Directors Guild Awards, and the Producers Guild Awards, too. The wait for the Oscars is almost over, but one more major guild had yet to give out its trophies before the Academy Awards. Tonight, Hollywood’s top writers came together for the Writers Guild of America Awards, which honored the finest achievements in film and television writing.
On the film side, the nominees were actually quite different from what you’ll see at the Oscars next week. In the Original Screenplay category, “Licorice Pizza,” “Don’t Look Up,” and “King Richard” were still nominated, but “Belfast” and “The Worst Person in the World” were replaced with “Being the Ricardos.” The Adapted Screenplay category was even more distinct, with only two Oscar contenders (“Dune” and “Coda”) nominated.
But it ultimately did not matter, as two Oscar nominees took the top prizes. “Coda...

There's no doubt Japan's disaster is already worse than Three Mile Island. Eve Conant talks to Tom Kauffman about working through the chaos and the problems facing U.S. nuclear plants.
Even before Tom Kauffman stepped inside the plant on the morning of March 28, 1979, he could tell something was wrong. The partial meltdown, caused by human error, marked Three Mile Island as America's most infamous-and perhaps educational-nuclear accident.

Kauffman, now a spokesman for the Nuclear Energy Institute, the policy arm of the country's nuclear industry, talks about why he stayed at the plant to help, how the accident changed America's nuclear industry, and how Japan's unfolding nuclear crisis compares.
What happened when you got to work that morning?
I was completing my second year of training as plant systems operator-which is basically the eyes, ears, and hands of the control room.
