Writer, director and musician Rene Perez has carved out a career in the mainstream as a genre filmmaker whose sensibilities air on the side of “guns, gore and boobs” – his films don’t shy away from the violence, nudity and plenty of blood and guts. He found success with genre fans with the Playing With Dolls films and then hit more of the mainstream with Death Kiss – the Death Wish homage that starred Charles Bronson lookalike Robert Bronzi. However, Perez has also focused on films that have heavy Christian/right-wing leanings but still throw in plenty of violence etc. unlike the stereotypical “preachy” nature of typical Christian movies; films like the recently released The Legend of Hawes, which mixed faith-based filmmaking with Texas Chainsaw Massacre style backwoods horror.

Writer/director Rene Perez (Playing With Dolls) is back with horror western The Legend of Hawes, which tells the story of survivors of a ravenous marauder attack, marauders who we’re told, in the film opening tile card ravaged the land and wore the faces of their victims in battle. In their quest for revenge for the death of their father and husband, the two survivors, Harriet (Emily Whitcomb) and her sister-in-law Inger (Karin Braun), hire a pair of men to help track down the marauders – tracker Mr. Tyson (Richard Tyson) and the legendary gunman of the film’s title, Hawes (Mike Markoff). The thing is Hawes was also a victim of the marauders, killing his wife and family and leaving Hawes to turn to alcohol to numb the pain of his loss.

Fortress: Sniper’s Eye isn’t the only new Bruce Willis film to come out recently. Corrective Measures, an odd mix of action, prison, science fiction and monster movies makes its debut as well. The reason you may not have heard of it is, that it’s another Tubi Original. Short of working for Rene Perez, that’s the most pathetic way for Willis to end his career I can think of.

With Dwayne Johnson’s big-budget Jungle Cruise due out from Disney soon, The Asylum was sure to be ready with their own cash in. And sure enough, here comes Jungle Run starring Richard Grieco and a bunch of people you’ve probably never heard of before fighting creatures rendered with questionable CGI.
Lebecq captain’s a charter boat in Brazil. Like all jungle boat captains, he drinks heavily and leaves everything to his crew Sark (Benjamin Bernard; Messiah) and Teese (Christian DeJesus). Despite offering private charters he’s managed to charter his boat out to both Amanda and Vera (Jamie Petitto; Geek USA).
Amanda and her brother Scott (Jack Pearson; Shark Season) are searching for their missing father Nathan. Vera runs the company that sent him into the jungle.

Genre film maker Rene Perez went out during the lockdown to make a short fan film. Directors making feature films don’t usually downgrade to fan films but in this case, you’ll be glad he did as Rene has made a ninja fan film based on the GI Joe character of Snake Eyes.
Starring Beauty Queen Miss Nevada 2020 Victoria Olona as Snake Eyes’ wife and Seventh degree black belt martial artist Juan Manuel Olmedo and title character, this short film is a fan film based on the popular Hasbro G.I.Joe action figure toy line and comic book series that dominated the 1980’s. This film mainly focuses on one member of the military team, code name: Snake Eyes.
The GI Joe team has been disbanded and it’s ninja/commando Snake Eyes is on a desperate mission while being hunted by a strike team of military assassins.

Bronzi is back! This time the Hungarian actor Robert Bronzi, known for his eerie resemblence to Charles Bronson, takes on a serial killer in Rene Perez's indie horror flick Cry Havoc. We mean it when we say takes on a serial killer. Whatch the trailer because Bronzi throws down with the serial killer called Havoc. I don't recall ever seeing someone brawl a serial killer in a horror flick before. At least look like they're winning, like Bronzi does in this trailer. Cry Havoc premieres On Demand on May 5th. It's just so crazy it might work. Robert Bronzi, the star of Death Kiss and Once Upon a Time in Deadwood, faces his deadliest opponent yet in Cry Havoc – available this...

The Face of Death is back…sort of. Robert Bronzi, the direct-to-video delight who looks just like Charles Bronson, is back in another low-budget genre movie. This time? Once Upon a Time in Deadwood , and no, it’s totally unrelated to Deadwood.
Starring as The Colonel, Bronzi is a no-nonsense, yet stylish six-shooter. Dressed to kill in all-black, Colonel is the anti-hero in demand in 1880s “Utah Territory”. Opening with raw gunfight, we immediately recognise Colonel as the man to reckon with, and a man with a vengeful cause. I’ve got a trailer to share with you today for an upcoming western called Once Upon a Time in Deadwood, and I can’t tell if its supposed to be funny or serious. I think it’s serious, and the fact that it’s serious makes it even more funny.
The story follows “a notorious gunslinger who is slipped a slow-acting poison by an heiress and told he has three days to track down and rescue her sister, who has been kidnapped by a band of hoodlums and holds the antidote.”
The gunslinger is played by Charles Bronson look-a-like actor Robert Bronzi (Death Kiss) and it also stars Michael Pare (Streets of Fire), who is the villain. Rene Perez directs from his screenplay, and the movie was filmed in California as well as in Western Leone, near Almeria, Spain, site of much of the filming of the famous Sergio Leone...

Through five Death Wish movies spanning 20 years, Charles Bronson delivered a unique brand of justice to violent criminals who crossed (and sometimes ended) the paths of his family and friends. Although the iconic actor passed away back in 2003, Bronson's memory lives on in the new film Death Kiss, starring Robert Kovacs as a man who could be Paul Kersey's doppelgänger. With Death Kiss coming out on digital and VOD platforms on October 2nd from Uncork'd Entertainment, we've been provided with an exclusive clip from the film to share with Daily Dead readers!

I’ve got a ridiculous trailer here for you to watch today for a new vigilante action-thriller called Death Kiss. As you’ll see, it a Charles Bronson-style film and it comes complete with a Charles Bronson look-a-like! That actors name is Robert ‘Bronzi’ Kovacs, and he doesn’t do much talking in the trailer. It’s clear he’s just there to look like Bronson and kick some ass and I found it quite amusing.
The film follows a vigilante with a mysterious past who goes to a crime-infested city and takes the law into his own hands, at the same time protecting a young mother and her child. When talking about the film, producer Jeff Miller says:
“Rene’s movie is very cool and stylish. It feels like a throwback to the Cannon films of the ’80s. After an enthusiastic response at Texas Frightmare Weekend in May,...

Following the “dubious’ release of the first two films in the series (one of which cause controversy in the UK by using the Texas Chainsaw prequel title), director Rene Perez is releasing the third film in his slasher oeuvre, Playing with Dolls: Havoc, to VOD platforms this week.
Playing with Dolls: Havoc is the third film in the series and sees serial killer and psychopath Havoc escaping from his prison. This time, he targets his jailers and the local residents of an isolated wood. The story also involves a sadist and voyeur. He (Richard Tyson, appearing in the franchise yet again) holds Havoc in a closed cave, to commit murder. But, Havoc turns the tables and finds a way out of his confines. Now, he is free to kill again and again and again…

Tagline: "Meet the World’s Most Brutal Killer.” Playing with Dolls: Havoc is the third film in this slasher series. Directed by Rene Perez, this latest release features Stormi Maya and Nicole Stark. Their characters are likely the latest victims of a deranged serial killer. This time Havoc aka Ayo-886 escapes from an underground lair. Here, he was used for his master's sadistic entertainment. Now free, Havoc is able to kill again and again and... A trailer for the film is available here, along with the film's official artwork. The trailer is a brutal one. It shows Havoc grinding through bodies, with some sort of altered axe. He is not finished there. Next, victims are tied up or chased to their deaths. Tagline: "Meet the World's Most Ruthless Serial Killer." This slasher horror fan has recently talked with director Rene Perez (The Obsidian Curse). Currently, he is composing music for his latest film, Playing with Dolls: Havoc. This is the third film in this franchise. As well, Perez is working on special effects for this production, which stars model and actress Nicole Stark. Playboy model Stormi Maya also stars, along with: Charlie Glakin and John Scuderi. A preview of the film, including early stills, is available here. Story details, for Playing with Dolls: Havoc, have not fully been revealed. However, previous films have dealt with a crazed philanthropist and his bloody voyeuristic cravings. Letting his DNA makeup inform his travel itinerary, the Puerto Rican musician formerly known as Rene Perez Joglar embarks on a globetrotting journey of self-discovery in the ambitious, eponymous Residente.
With some 25 Latin Grammy awards to his name as the founder of influential rap group Calle 13, but looking for a fresh challenge, Perez Joglar turned to the results of an ancestry test to determine the directions his new recording project would take him.
The result makes for a diverse, highly personal musical odyssey which, while undeniably inspired, occasionally is structurally thrown off course by its inherent wanderlust.

Director Rene Perez has announced a third film in the Playing with Dolls series. The second sequel will be called Playing With Dolls: Havoc. And, a few casting details have been announced. Nicole Stark (Obsidian Curse), Charlie Glakin (From Hell to the Wild West) and Playboy model April Summers will centrally star. Shooting will begin this February 10th. And, the first still, from the film, is shown here. The story for Havoc sounds similar to the previous two films. A killer has escaped jail. Now, he is on a murderous rampage as he tears through a group of unsuspecting vacationers. Director Perez will focus on action, in this slasher. Perez says of the bloodshed: "this time, I'm letting the action take center stage. I'm letting the carnage drive the story." Some of that macabre action can be seen here, with the antagonist's latest find - a severed hand! More...

Before we start, let me clarify some things… Or not. Because I’m still a little confused.
Last March saw the UK DVD release of director Rene Perez’s Playing With Dolls. That release passed me completely by, however I know it did get a decent reception from some quarters (if memory serves Zombie Hamster’s Dave Wain enjoyed it). Yet now, some months later, we have Playing With Dolls under the unoriginal, and possibly copyright infringing, title of Leatherface. Confused? I am. The BBFC website list this film’s cast as the sequels cast, whilst Amazon is the opposite. It doesn’t help that the UK distributor has the official synopsis for Playing With Dolls: Bloodlust on the back of the DVD but then has the cast...

Having only just been released in the UK earlier this year, Rene Perez’s Playing With Dolls was an underrated direct to DVD gem and now comes news that the film’s sequel Bloodlust is set to make its Us debut next month.

A group of aspiring actors are chosen for a reality horror TV show. In the show, they must survive being chased by a killer. The program is filmed with scores of tiny cameras, in a cabin and the surrounding forest. What the contestants don’t know is that this murderer is a real killer and the television program is a ruse. I've got a crazy trailer here for a new indie slasher film being released called Playing With Dolls: Bloodlust. This is a sequel to writer and director Rene Perez's Playing with Dolls. Perez is back directing the film, and this is a brutal trailer filled with blood and gore, so it's definitely Nsfw. If you're a fan of slasher movies and you liked the first one, then this sequel looks like one that might be worth checking out.

The events in this film, take place after the 2015 film, Playing with Dolls. This time, a series of tiny cameras have been set-up inside a cabin and in the local forest. Stina (Brauns) has been invited to this remote location, with the promise of easy money and a television appearance. She is unaware that an escaped killer is roaming the location. IDic Entertainment and director Rene Perez (The Dead and the Damned) have released a trailer for Playing with Dolls 2. The film has been renamed Playing with Dolls: Bloodlust and the clip shows more torture and more unsuspecting characters. Likely to be released soon, the film stars Richard Tyson (Black Hawk Down), Karin Isabell Brauns, Andy Espinoza Long, Colin M. Bryant and Elonda Seawood. An analysis of the film's first trailer is hosted here. Perez focuses on the gore. The first trailer shows one male character, being sawed into. Full of practical make-up effects, the man's leg looks unusually real. Actress Karin Isabell Brauns plays Stina. Stina is flown into an isolated reserve, in hopes of stardom. But, she finds a killer is stalking her remote cabin. She also discovers a body in the woods. Here, reality takes hold. At the top of psychopathic pyramid, Richard Tyson plays The Voyeur, a rich,...

Director Rene Perez (The Dead and the Damned) has completed shooting on Playing with Dolls 2. The sequel is also a slasher feature, with Prisoner Ayo-886 returning. This time a false reality show is set-up in an isolated wood. But, this location is just a bloody playground, for a roaming sociopath. Playing with Dolls 2 stars Richard Tyson (Black Hawk Down), Karin Isabell Brauns, Andy Espinoza Long, Colin M. Bryant and Elonda Seawood. Several photos from the film are hosted here. The stills tell a macabre story. Prisoner Ayo-886 can be seen sitting in his fleshy, remote home. Bodies litter the abode's exterior. As well, other stills show the reality show contestants boarding a plane, or fighting for their lives. Even further stills show bodies tied up, or the villain playing with a corpse or two. All of the stills provide an early look at Perez's latest feature, Playing with Dolls 2. A central setting for both films.

Director: Rene Perez. Writers: Barry Massoni and Rene Perez. Cast: Natasha Blasick, Richard Tyson, Charlie Glackin and Alanna Forte. Playing with Dolls is director Rene Perez's (The Dead and the Damned) latest horror feature. Partially written by Barry Massoni (Demon Hunter), the film deals with the release of a psychopath, who has a simmering internal conflict with women. His latest crush is great eye candy, but this character offers very little else. Almost a bloodless slasher, Playing with Dolls offers very little hack and slash. Instead, the focus of the film is on cat-and-mouse sequences, housed in the usual cabin-in-the-woods setting. Playing with Dolls brings very little substance to the screen, unfortunately. The story begins with some horror. A nicely framed woman is stalked in the snow and tortured. Then, the film changes from the antagonist to the protagonist. Cindy (Natasha Blasick) is in dire straits. She has lost her job,...

Say, you know what would have made the Tommy Lee Jones disaster movie Volcano better? Lava zombies and cult icon Danny Trejo, if Rene Perez’s undead disaster movie is anything to go by. When a simmering volcano blows its top in small-town America, the locals have more to worry about than simple immolation – the emergence of a horde of long-buried zombies from within adding considerably to their woes.
A small band of survivors hustle together to escape both the perils of the lava and the zombies, hunkering down in a woodland cabin, where the crinkly old resident within is undergoing some serious social media withdrawal symptoms.
