‘AHS: Delicate’ enters early labor with a fun, frenzied episode that finds the perfect tone and goes for broke as its water breaks.
“I’ll figure it out. Women always do.”
American Horror Story is no stranger to remixing real-life history with ludicrous, heightened Murphy-isms, whether it’s AHS: 1984’s incorporation of Richard Ramirez, AHS: Cult’s use of Valerie Solanas, or AHS: Coven’s prominent role for the Axeman of New Orleans. Accordingly, it’s very much par for the course for AHS: Delicate to riff on other pop culture touchstones and infinitely warp them to its wicked whims. That being said, it takes real guts to do a postmodern feminist version of Rosemary’s Baby and then actually put Mia Farrow – while she’s filming Rosemary’s Baby, no less – into the narrative. This is the type of gonzo bullshit that I want out of American Horror Story!

Kim Kardashian and Emma Roberts lock lips in chilling American Horror Story: Delicate Part 2 trailer
If we’re being honest, we didn’t think Kim Kardashian was the right fit for American Horror Story before the season debuted.
But she exceeded all expectations last fall when she appeared as a publicist named Siobhan on American Horror Story: Delicate.
Thanks to delays caused by the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, we’re about to see the final episodes of the season.
In a new trailer released Wednesday, Kardashian’s character becomes more chilling than anticipated.
Even though Siobhan is embracing her villainous side, she’s still throwing out witty one-liners to poor Anna (Emma Roberts), who has become the target of a cult with big plans for her unborn child.
The trailer delves into what we can expect during the final episodes of the season, and one moment that’s sure to get fans talking involves Kardashian and Roberts kissing.

Is Kim Kardashian really the monster we think she is? No, friends, she’s actually “so much worse.”
That’s one takeaway from the just-released trailer for American Horror Story: Delicate Part 2, premiering Wednesday, April 3 (FX, 10/9c). Another takeaway is that things are about to get even darker for Anna’s growing family — if that’s even possible.

Kieran Culkin looks as though someone’s stolen a piece of his soul. We’re seated across from one another in the bustling lobby of the Pendry, a tony hotel in Park City, Utah, and the Succession star has just clocked a middle-aged man not-so-surreptitiously snapping several photos of him from across the room. He shifts uncomfortably in his seat and takes a sip of his pilsner before leaning over to me.

We all have that one friend. Or relative, or coworker, or ex. Some people, no matter how much you love them, can be exhausting — their own stubborn immaturity hindering the way they live life and build relationships.
In Randall Park’s “Shortcomings,” Justin H. Min plays Ben, a character with a laundry list of exactly what the film’s name invokes and exactly zero awareness of about it. He’s apathetic and irascible with his long-term girlfriend Miko (Ally Maki), self-absorbed with best friend Alice (Sherry Cola), and utterly complacent in his job as manager of a local movie theater, which is hanging on by a thread.

Randall Park’s Shortcomings opens with a fake-out: A Chinese-American woman in an evening gown gets insulted by a casually racist white hotel clerk. She turns on her heels, walks over to her dapper-looking husband, exchanges a few words, and walks back to the front desk. They’ve just bought the hotel, so the clerk can leave his post and go take out the trash, thank you very much. Then the couple kisses, fireworks go off, and the credits roll.

In a sign of a new current of energy infusing Hollywood labor, hundreds of A-list actors sent a bombshell letter to their union leaders Tuesday calling on them to make a “transformative” deal with studios and streamers and expressing their resolve to strike if such a compromise wasn’t reached.
The likes of Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lawrence and Julia Louis-Dreyfus signed the message in advance of the expiration of their union SAG-AFTRA’s current TV and film contracts Friday night. And after the letter was read by union negotiators and leaders, hundreds more signed on, including apparently Rooney Mara, Joaquin Phoenix and Amanda Seyfried — currently, the letter appears to have over 2,000 signatories, though in the Google Doc copy The Hollywood Reporter has seen, header language cautions that volunteers are in the process of verifying signatures.

It was a night of laughs that’s still whispered about in comedy circles. During the last writers’ strike in 2007, Michael Cera hosted a DIY version of Saturday Night Live at the Upright Citizens Brigade theater in New York City for around 200 people. The show was comprised of old and/or never-before-seen sketches that had never made it to air, and the entire cast of SNL participated, including the likes of Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader, Fred Armisen, Jason Sudeikis, Amy Poehler, and Maya Rudolph. Norah Jones was the surprise musical...

"While the cat's away, the mouse will play." Sony Pictures Classics has unveiled the official trailer for an excellent indie comedy called Shortcomings, which premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. I saw this at the fest and really enjoyed it, it's a fresh and surprisingly honest romantic comedy about the experiences of Asian Americans - told from an entirely different perspective. The story follows a trio of young Bay Area urbanites – Ben Tanaka, Miko Hayashi, and Alice Kim – as they navigate a range of interpersonal relationships, traversing the country seeking the ideal connection. Shortcomings is directed by comedian / actor Randall Park, making his feature directorial debut. It's based on the graphic novel of the same name by Adrian Tomine. The film stars Justin H. Min as Ben, Sherry Cola as Alice, Ally Maki as Miko, Debby Ryan, Tavi Gevinson, Sonoya Mizuno, Jacob Batalon, and Timothy Simons. I...

It is both obvious and radical to say that auditions are work. Actors are even supposed to be paid for them. SAG-AFTRA’s contract with the studios states that we’re entitled to half our scale day rate for every audition we perform but don’t book for a TV show, studio feature or high-budget indie. Since our day rate is $1,082, that’s $541.

How can a legal right feel so risky to talk about, even for people who agree that this payment is fair? When I first learned about audition pay last fall, from a video by Sarah Ramos, an emergency response team of arguments rushed through my head: Auditions are job interviews. Casting directors will hate it. Producers can’t afford it. I’m just lucky to be following my dreams. That is, I viewed it from several perspectives except for that of a unionized laborer. I...

Randall Park’s directorial debut, which had a mostly positive reception from its Sundance premiere, will launch theatrically on August 4.
“Shortcomings,” starring Justin H. Min, Sherry Cola and Ally Maki, will make its New York premiere at the Tribeca Festival next month in the Spotlight Narrative section.
Based on the Eisner-winning cartoonist Adrian Tomine’s graphic novel of the same name, “Shortcomings” also features Tavi Gevinson, Debby Ryan, Sonoya Mizuno, Timothy Simons and Jacob Batalon. Tomine, a frequent contributor to The New Yorker, adapted the screenplay and is executive producing.
The picture concerns a struggling filmmaker who spends his days managing an arthouse theater. When his girlfriend moves to New York for an internship, Ben is left to ponder what he really wants out of life.

Tango, the producer of the Sundance pic Shortcomings, is continuing to set up its future slate as it has come on to adapt the subversive rom com novel Book Lovers, into a feature film based on the #1 New York Times Bestseller from Emily Henry, the hit author behind three other New York Times Bestsellers over the last three years. Sarah Heyward is attached to write the script, which will be produced by Tango.
Book Lovers tells the story of Nora, a cutthroat literary agent who, convinced by her sister to spend one August holiday in Sunshine Falls, North Carolina, keeps running into Charlie, a bookish, brooding editor from back in the city. It would be a meet-cute if not for the fact that they’ve met many times and it’s never been cute. If Nora knows she’s not an ideal heroine, Charlie knows he’s nobody’s hero,...

Tár, the third film from writer and director Todd Field, is a fictional biopic structured like a Greek tragedy: here we have a character of prestigious rank and fortune, brought down by something within themselves. Lydia Tár (Cate Blanchett), the first female chief conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic with an almost impossibly illustrious career behind her, has knowingly committed harmful acts—she is a sexual predator and has abused her position of influence—and her downfall, painful to watch, is precipitated by a growing recklessness, a refusal to heed the warnings the audience can clearly interpret as signs of a coming storm. When the extent of her misconduct is revealed, Tár’s punishment is swift: she can’t see her wife or child, she loses her job, she loses her luxurious home(s), and she loses her status. The film has, for obvious if frustrating reasons, been primarily received as...

Fresh Off the Boat actor Randall Park has a firm grasp on comedic timing in front of the camera, but he stepped behind it for the Sundance Film Festival romantic comedy, Shortcomings. Adrian Tomine’s screenplay doesn’t have the most likable protagonist, although the film’s buoyant personality and terrific ensemble cast make it stand out from the pack.

Gossip Girl is a series created by Joshua Safran, Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz.
This reboot from the 2007 series is quite a success in HBO Max and has Jordan Alexander starring in this great series for teens with gossip, treason and lots and lots of secrets.
Together Jordan Alexander, we have Eli Brown and Adam Chanler-Berat among others in the cast in a production that is in its second series and again a choral formula that made the 2007 series the success it was.
Gossip Girl (2021-2023)
An intricate plot of secrets, lies and intrigue that is being loved by the younger audience and which is as good as the original and even improving it in many aspects. It achieves a fascinating orderly chaos with the characters, stories and moments that for sure will delight the fans of these yet to be discovered secrets.
Enjoy.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Gossip Girl series finale “I Am Gossip.”] In a way, the last episode of HBO Max’s Gossip Girl does work as a series finale. But it also ends with a post-credits scene that teases what could have come next. Kate (Tavi Gevinson) is in prison, after revealing herself to be Gossip Girl following the teens trapping her. The teens are looking ahead to a drama-free life. However, what they don’t know is that Roger (Malcolm McDowell) turned to Jordan (Adam Chanler-Berat) about his plans to expand Gossip Girl. Showrunner Joshua Safran reveals what was cut from the finale and what we would have seen in a third season. After news broke of the cancellation, you said you’re looking for another home, but also that you didn’t expect to find one. Has your take on that changed since then? Joshua Safran: No, not at all. [Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Gossip Girl series finale, “I Am Gossip.”] The Gossip Girl revival on HBO Max wrapped its two-season run with the mention of two major characters from the original series on The CW, and according to showrunner Joshua Safran, they’d tried to get both actors to appear, but scheduling didn’t work out. The teens set a trap by first having Zoya (Whitney Peak) claim she’s Gossip Girl, then dropping the rumor that Shonda Rhimes, Ryan Murphy, and Danny Strong were in a multi-million dollar bidding war for the rights to the story. Of course, Kate (Tavi Gevinson) shows up to what she thinks is a Hollywood meeting, revealing she’s Gossip Girl to the teens. But there isn’t a bigshot producer there; instead, Eric’s (Connor Paolo) husband Jonathan (Matt Doyle) is, as is Andy Cohen. They tell Kate her story will be on Cohen’s show...

Perhaps humbly anticipating a slightly less prestigious premiere than in competition at Sundance, Randall Park’s “Shortcomings” opens with an amusingly broad parody of “Crazy Rich Asians” (starring original cast member Ronnie Chieng alongside Stephanie Hsu) playing at a Berkeley-based Asian American film festival. As the credits roll, the audience hoot and holler their approval — all except for struggling Japanese American filmmaker Ben (Justin H. Min), who wears the pained expression of a man passing a kidney stone. In the lobby with his girlfriend, Miko (Ally Maki), who works for the festival, Ben is asked what he thinks by the ebullient director of the film. Struggling for a diplomacy that we soon learn does not come naturally, Ben leads with “It’s … quite the event.”
“Shortcomings,” in its way, is also quite the event. A fresh-faced, funny directorial debut from the ever-engaging Park, who starred in “Fresh off the Boat” and “Always Be My Maybe,...

There’s a rather clever wink-wink opening to actor Randall Park’s debut feature as a director, Shortcomings, which, when all is said and done, mostly fails to deliver on its promise.
A young couple, the aspiring filmmaker, Ben (Justin H. Min), and his girlfriend, Miko (Ally Maki), are watching what’s clearly a spoof of Crazy Rich Asians at a Bay Area film festival. Ben loathes it for being a “garish mainstream rom-com that glorifies a capitalistic fantasy,” while Miko think it’s a “game changer” that will allow aspiring Asian-American directors to make something “cooler, more artsy or whatever.”
Shortcomings is, alas, not that cool and artsy movie — nor is it the glossy popcorn bling-a-thon that turned Asians into a worldwide smash. It’s more like the kind of standard Sundance-bound dramedy we’ve seen lots of times before, albeit with a charming cast and some sharp bits of commentary on race,...

The Berlin International Film Festival unveiled the competition lineup for its 2023 edition on Monday morning, naming the 18 movies that will compete for the coveted Gold and Silver Bears at the 73rd Berlinale.
Berlinale executive director Mariette Rissenbeek and artistic director Carlo Chatrian presented a very international and arthouse-heavy lineup, with a strong focus on politically-charged cinema.

The new incarnation of Gossip Girl has been cancelled by HBO Max and will conclude this week. Series creator Josh Safran was saddened by the news, but not surprised. He suspected a cancellation was coming because of how expensive Gossip Girl is ("It takes a lot of money to look this good.") and because numerous HBO Max shows have been cancelled recently.
Starring Jordan Alexander, Eli Brown, Thomas Doherty, Tavi Gevinson, Emily Alyn Lind, Evan Mock, Zion Moreno, Whitney Peak, and Savannah Lee Smith, the sequel series follows a new group of private school teens living on the Upper East Side. The original version of Gossip Girl aired for six seasons on The CW before concluding in 2012.

NYC’s messiest Instagram account is typing its “XOXOs” for the last time. “Gossip Girl,” the HBO Max series and sequel to the CW hit of the same name, has been canceled, the streamer announced Thursday. The news comes in the middle of the show’s Season 2 run, which began on December 1 and will conclude January 26.
In a tweet Thursday, showrunner and executive producer Joshua Safran stated he intends to shop “Gossip Girl” to other outlets.
“We are currently looking for another home, but in this climate, that might prove an uphill battle, and so if this is the end, at least we went out on the highest of highs,” Safran wrote in his tweet.

Hey, Upper Eastsiders: HBO Max’s “Gossip Girl” has been canceled, and its series finale will drop on the streamer Jan. 26.
Season 1 premiered in July of 2021, and though it received a critics’ score of 38 on Rotten Tomatoes, Variety‘s Caroline Framke praised it, writing the show “does immediately address one issue that plagued the previous ‘Gossip Girl’ by flipping it on its head in a way that energizes the new one. This time, there will be no guessing games as to who Gossip Girl might be — at least not for the audience.” Season 2 jumped higher on Rotten Tomatoes, but based on fewer reviews.
“We are very grateful to showrunner/executive producer Joshua Safran, and executive producers Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz for bringing us back to the Upper East Side and all the scandals at Constance Billard,” HBO Max said in a statement. “Although we are not moving forward with...
