Infatuation turns into a sinister obsession in the upcoming indie drama “Darkest Miriam.”
Based on Martha Baillie’s novel “The Incident Report,” the film follows loner librarian Miriam Gordon, played by “Severance” actress Britt Lower, whose new affair with a taxi driver (Tom Mercier) coincides with her receiving threatening letters from a secret admirer. Could her beau also be her nemesis?
The film, written and directed by Naomi Jaye, is set to have its world premiere at the Tribeca Festival in the Viewpoints Section on Sunday, June 9.
Acclaimed filmmaker Charlie Kaufman serves as an executive producer on the film, seemingly stamping it with his signature existentialism. Kaufman joined after reading author Baillie’s other book “Sister Language.” Canadian poet Eva H.D. approached Kaufman on behalf of the production.

‘AHS: Delicate’ enters early labor with a fun, frenzied episode that finds the perfect tone and goes for broke as its water breaks.
“I’ll figure it out. Women always do.”
American Horror Story is no stranger to remixing real-life history with ludicrous, heightened Murphy-isms, whether it’s AHS: 1984’s incorporation of Richard Ramirez, AHS: Cult’s use of Valerie Solanas, or AHS: Coven’s prominent role for the Axeman of New Orleans. Accordingly, it’s very much par for the course for AHS: Delicate to riff on other pop culture touchstones and infinitely warp them to its wicked whims. That being said, it takes real guts to do a postmodern feminist version of Rosemary’s Baby and then actually put Mia Farrow – while she’s filming Rosemary’s Baby, no less – into the narrative. This is the type of gonzo bullshit that I want out of American Horror Story!

Kim Kardashian and Emma Roberts lock lips in chilling American Horror Story: Delicate Part 2 trailer

If we’re being honest, we didn’t think Kim Kardashian was the right fit for American Horror Story before the season debuted.
But she exceeded all expectations last fall when she appeared as a publicist named Siobhan on American Horror Story: Delicate.
Thanks to delays caused by the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, we’re about to see the final episodes of the season.
In a new trailer released Wednesday, Kardashian’s character becomes more chilling than anticipated.
Even though Siobhan is embracing her villainous side, she’s still throwing out witty one-liners to poor Anna (Emma Roberts), who has become the target of a cult with big plans for her unborn child.
The trailer delves into what we can expect during the final episodes of the season, and one moment that’s sure to get fans talking involves Kardashian and Roberts kissing.

TV shows with villain twists that contradict established storylines and character development can frustrate viewers and undermine the integrity of the show. Unexpected twists that focus more on shock value than coherent storytelling can lead to backlash and a sense of betrayal from invested viewers. The challenge lies in executing twists in a way that enhances the overall viewer experience and respects the established tone and character arcs of the show.
Whether they deserve the hate or not, TV shows that made fans mad with their villain twists are forever etched into viewers' minds. These unexpected revelations can elicit frustration when they feel forced, inconsistent with character development, or undermine the overall storyline. Audiences may express disappointment when beloved characters take a sudden dark turn without sufficient build-up, or when the twist seems more focused on shock value than coherent storytelling.

The Gossip Girl reboot removed a major element of the original series: the mystery surrounding Gossip Girl's true identity. The new Gossip Girl's identity was revealed in the first episode, unlike the original series which waited until the finale for the reveal. The reboot lacked the curiosity and intrigue of the original series, which affected its success and audience engagement.
The short-lived Gossip Girl reboot changed one crucial element of the original series that should have never been messed with. Based on the book series of the same name by Cecily von Ziegesar, Gossip Girl follows a group of wealthy, privileged teenagers on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, whose business is put on blast by an anonymous, all-knowing blogger named "Gossip Girl." After a six-season run from 2007 to 2012, Gossip Girl was revived in 2021 by former executive producer Joshua Safran.
There were some key differences between the Gossip Girl reboot and the original.

We all have that one friend. Or relative, or coworker, or ex. Some people, no matter how much you love them, can be exhausting — their own stubborn immaturity hindering the way they live life and build relationships.
In Randall Park’s “Shortcomings,” Justin H. Min plays Ben, a character with a laundry list of exactly what the film’s name invokes and exactly zero awareness of about it. He’s apathetic and irascible with his long-term girlfriend Miko (Ally Maki), self-absorbed with best friend Alice (Sherry Cola), and utterly complacent in his job as manager of a local movie theater, which is hanging on by a thread.

Adrian Tomine's 2007 graphic novel Shortcomings is a sharp, insightful, and dryly funny story with a protagonist who could easily be described as insensitive, self-centered, and condescending. That doesn't sound like something that would lend itself to an accessible film adaptation, but Tomine and director Randall Park have made Shortcomings into an entertaining, audience-friendly movie while remaining faithful to Tomine's original story. Park's version of Shortcomings is brighter and glossier than Tomine's graphic novel, but it retains the source material's acerbic wit and commitment to unlikeable characters.
There's something charming about the proud misanthropy of frustrated filmmaker and movie theater manager Ben Tagawa (After Yang's Justin H. Min), who bluntly speaks his mind even when -- sometimes especially when -- it isn't called for. Shortcomings opens with an amusing parody of a Crazy Rich Asians-style upscale dramedy starring Asian-American actors, featuring cameos from Stephanie Hsu and Ronnie Chieng. Ben...

Randall Park’s Shortcomings opens with a fake-out: A Chinese-American woman in an evening gown gets insulted by a casually racist white hotel clerk. She turns on her heels, walks over to her dapper-looking husband, exchanges a few words, and walks back to the front desk. They’ve just bought the hotel, so the clerk can leave his post and go take out the trash, thank you very much. Then the couple kisses, fireworks go off, and the credits roll.

Randall Park has been delighting audiences for years on television as Louis Huang, the lovable, mild-mannered father on Fresh Off the Boat, as well as his roles in movies like Ant-Man & the Wasp, Always Be My Maybe, and Aquaman. When it was announced that he would make his directorial debut by adapting the popular graphic novel series, Shortcomings, most fans hoped that his talent behind the camera would be able to match his talent in front of the camera. After debuting at the Sundance Film Festival this year, critics breathed a sigh of relief as Park’s adaptation turned out to be funny, heartfelt, and timely. Shortcomings stars two actors who are both coming off of incredibly successful runs: Justin H Min, who has recently starred in Beef alongside Ali Wong and Steven Yeun, as well as the critically acclaimed drama After Yang, and Sherry Cola, who made a...

"While the cat's away, the mouse will play." Sony Pictures Classics has unveiled the official trailer for an excellent indie comedy called Shortcomings, which premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. I saw this at the fest and really enjoyed it, it's a fresh and surprisingly honest romantic comedy about the experiences of Asian Americans - told from an entirely different perspective. The story follows a trio of young Bay Area urbanites – Ben Tanaka, Miko Hayashi, and Alice Kim – as they navigate a range of interpersonal relationships, traversing the country seeking the ideal connection. It is both obvious and radical to say that auditions are work. Actors are even supposed to be paid for them. SAG-AFTRA’s contract with the studios states that we’re entitled to half our scale day rate for every audition we perform but don’t book for a TV show, studio feature or high-budget indie. Since our day rate is $1,082, that’s $541.

How can a legal right feel so risky to talk about, even for people who agree that this payment is fair? When the extent of her misconduct is revealed, Tár’s punishment is swift: she can’t see her wife or child, she loses her job, she loses her luxurious home(s), and she loses her status. Shortcomings — the directorial debut from Randall Park that screened in the U.S. dramatic competition section at the Sundance Film Festival — has landed at Sony Pictures Classic in a worldwide deal.
The feature, which is based on Adrian Tomine’s graphic novel of the same name, is from Tango and Topic Studios. Justin H. Min, Sherry Cola and Ally Maki lead a cast that also includes Tavi Gevinson, Debby Ryan, Sonoya Mizuno, Timothy Simons and Jacob Batalon.
The synopsis for the film reads: “Ben (Min), a struggling filmmaker, lives in Berkeley, California, with his girlfriend, Miko (Maki), who works for a local Asian American film festival. When he’s not managing an art house movie theater as his day job, Ben spends his time obsessing over unavailable blonde women, watching Criterion Collection DVDs, and eating in diners with his best friend Alice (Cola), a queer grad student with a serial dating habit.
