Music producer whose biggest hit was "Harper Valley PTA". With the profits from that song, he bought the rights to Sam Phillips's Sun Records, and its master recordings.
He is survived by his three sons-Stuart Singleton, Steve Singleton, and Sidney Singleton; a daughter, Shana Singleton; and brother, John Singleton. He is also survived by his grandchildren.
In the late 1950s, he worked in promotions for Mercury Records. Within three years, he was head of artists and repertoire, in which he oversaw the talent scouts and artist development. He launched the careers of Roger Miller, Ray Stevens, and Jerry Reed.
He joined the Marines after graduating from high school. When he got out, he worked as an engineer for Remington Rand.
