Nobody Can Cool takes a simple concept and uses it to great effect. An independent film in every sense, it is evidence that you do not need big budget dollars to create unnerving tension and edge of your seat excitement. For those looking for an effective modern twist on old school noir you will find it with Nobody Can Cool.
The story follows Susan (Catherine Annette) and David (David Atlas) a young couple who are looking to have a weekend getaway out in the country. They soon find their friend’s home they thought would be vacated is currently being used by some suspicious characters. The question becomes are these strange occupiers just the product or a miscommunication or are their plans far more sinister.
David and Susan come across as the couple you never want to hang out with.

As a teen just getting into the world of low-budget horror movies, and straight to VHS fare, there were a handful of directors whose work I would buy and/or rent without fail and without any prior knowledge (besides the spiel on the back of the box) of what i was getting into. One of those directors was Fred Olen Ray, the genius behind such films as Scalps, Star Slammer, Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers, Evil Toons, Cyclone and the awesome Scream Queen Hot Tub Party. However in the intervening years it’s safe to say I haven’t had the urge to watch as many of his flicks as I did in the 80s/90s heyday...

Screen siren Tawny Kitaen returns to our screens on the hunt for a killer in After Midnight, the latest film from renowned filmmaker Fred Olen Ray (the man behind one of my favourite horror B-movies, Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers). When an exotic dancer is murdered at a seedy strip club, her sister Constance (Catherine Annette – Silent But Deadly), a TV newscaster, goes undercover to find the killer. While working at the club, she quickly realizes that everyone is a suspect and that other dancers are being targeted. She must work fast to find the killer to seek her revenge before she becomes the next target.
After Midnight debuts via VOD on October 28th from Phase 4 Films, in anticipation of it’s release we chatted to star Catherine Annette about her role and working with Fred Olen Ray and Tawny Kitaen…

These bastards may not be so lucky.
“Lucky Bastard” pushes the boundaries of thriller cinema into the pornography business. With an Nc-17 rating, the movie looks into the scary side of the pornography business—a possible crazed maniac killer.
In a reality porn footage, a porn web site invites fans with porn stars. A young fan was given the opportunity to have sex with a famous porn star, but the cast and crew ended up with gruesome results.
The movie stars Don McManus (“The Shawshank Redemption”), Jay Paulson (“Mad Men”), Betsy Rue (“My Bloody Valentine”), Chris Wylde (“The Revenant”) and Catherine Annette (“Femme Fatales”). It is directed by Robert Nathan.
Latino-Review was provided an exclusive clip with a scene between Don McManus and Jay Paulson arguing after a failed sex scene.
The movie is currently in limited release in select cities.

A new shorter trailer for upcoming found footage thriller 'Lucky Bastard' has arrived. Set in the adult film world a winning contestant finds himself with the chance of a lifetime, to share a night with a hot porn star. But for winner Dave this reward doesn't have the most positive effect on his mental state as the fantasy turns to bloodshed. 'Lucky Bastard' stars Jay Paulson, Don McManus ('Grand Piano'), Chris Wylde, Catherine Annette and Betsy Rue ('My Bloody Valentine') and will premiere on 14 February in New York and on 7 March in La. Check out the trailer below....

One of the keys to nailing a "found footage" movie is to give your audience a good reason as to why cameras are always running -- even when mass carnage is underway. It's not always believable that a woman would hang on to a video camera while she's being chased by a raving maniac, but it is sort of believable if your horror movie is about a low-rent porno production whose very gimmick is to film everything. And, yes, the "Lucky Bastard" porno site most definitely aims to film "everything." Surely that's enough of a hook to hang a movie on, right? Found footage, on a no-budget porno set, and the no-name nobody (aka the "lucky bastard") who gets to bed the sexy starlet is, of course, seriously unhinged and just about to explode in a tornado of impotent fury. So given that the head honcho wants everything filmed, and...

A new red band trailer and one-sheet has been released for Robert Nathan's upcoming found footage thriller 'Lucky Bastard'. The action revolves around a porn website that selects a lucky candidate to have filmed sex with one of their popular porn stars. But it turns out their system of selection may need some severe modifications as mild-mannered Dave (played by Jay Paulson) isn't as mild-mannered as the organisers first thought. 'Lucky Bastard' also stars Don McManus ('Grand Piano'), Chris Wylde, Catherine Annette and Betsy Rue as pornstar Ashley Saint ('My Bloody Valentine'). The movie's rated Nc-17 and will premiere on 14 February in New York and on 7 March in La. Check out the new one-sheet and Nsfw trailer below....

When exotic dancer Duffy is murdered, her sister, a TV newscaster, goes undercover to find out what happened... trouble is, Duffy has come back from the dead, seeking her own revenge in this “Twin Peaks” inspired horror thriller from Fred Olen Ray.
That’s the premise behind After Midnight, the latest from b-movie maven Fred Olen Ray. Jeneta St. Clair is the ghostly murder victim, and Catherine Annette is the sister stripping down to find her sister’s murderer. But the marquee names are two former sex symbols of the 1980’s: Richard Grieco of “21 Jump Street” fame and Tawny Kitaen of Witchboard and slithering around on the hood of a car in Whitesnake music videos.
Retromedia Entertainment and Synthetic Filmwerx have released a slightly Nsfw trailer for their erotically-charged supernatural thriller. That “Welcome to the Darkside” song, how many direct-to-video movies has it been used in? That’s a B-Sides waiting to happen.

Title: Lucky Bastard Director: Robert Nathan Starring: Don McManus, Jay Paulson, Betsy Rue, Chris Wylde, Catherine Annette, Lanny Joon, Lee Kholafai A fairly clever little indie film that shrewdly marries the popular but well-worn “found footage” framing device to a prurient storyline, the Nc-17-rated “Lucky Bastard” may not win any awards, but it puts an imaginative spin on what is too often a sloppy low-budget aesthetic, easily outstripping charges of empty gimmickry. After an opening consisting of crime scene footage that tips viewers off to some dark events, the rest of the film is presented as the behind-the-scenes footage from a porn shoot for a website called “Lucky Bastard,” where [ Read More ]
