Rio De Janeiro, June 7 (Ians) The Brazilian Football Confederation (Cbf) has not given up on its pursuit of Carlo Ancelotti for the national team’s vacant head coaching role, the entity’s president said.
The comments came despite Ancelotti’s declaration last month that he intends to see out the remaining 12 months of his Real Madrid contract, reorts Xinhua.
“It didn’t come as a surprise that he said that,” Cbf chief Ednaldo Rodrigues told reporters.
“We know there is a contractual situation and that we have to be careful not to do something that could upset [Real Madrid] or vice versa. We have our Plan A, which is Ancelotti, and we haven’t thrown in the towel yet.”
Brazil’s head coaching position became vacant in December when Adenor Bacchi, better known as Tite, stepped down following the team’s World Cup quarterfinal defeat to Croatia.

Rio De Janerio, April 12 (Ians) Flamengo have parted ways with Portuguese manager Vitor Pereira after a poor run of results, the Brazilian club said.
The announcement came two days after a 4-1 loss to local rivals Fluminense in the second leg of the Rio de Janeiro state championship final, a result that condemned Flamengo to a 4-3 defeat on aggregate, reports Xinhua.
“(We) inform that the coach Vitor Pereira and his staff are no longer in charge of the professional squad. The board thanks (Pereira) and wishes him luck in the future,” read a statement on Flamengo’s social media accounts.
Pereira, 54, led Flamengo to 12 wins, two draws and seven losses after taking charge of the club in January.
Fenerbahce’s Portuguese manager Jorge Jesus and Argentine coach Jorge Sampaoli, who was sacked by Sevilla last month, are the frontrunners to replace Pereira, according to local media reports.

Benfica go into tonight’s Europa League Final against Chelsea on the back of a disastrous last gasp defeat to Porto that could yet cost them their Primeira Liga title.
It was only the Portuguese side’s first defeat since September however and Jorge Jesus has a fully fit squad to select from tonight.
Chelsea, meanwhile, are not so fortunate in that department. The Blues will definitely be without defender John Terry and midfielder Eden Hazard, both of whom limped out of Saturday’s 2-1 win over Aston Villa.
Demba Ba is ineligible and so Fernando Torres will continue in attack.
Otherwise, manager Rafael Benitez has a fully fit squad to take to Amsterdam.

Benfica are one of the in-form teams left in the Europa League as they go into tonight’s quarter-final clash with Newcastle United at the Estadio Da Luz.
Jorge Jesus’s side haven’t lost a home game in Europe since December 2008, and are in free-scoring form. The Portuguse’ have hit 102 goals in total this term and Jesus faces the dilemma of either restoring Rodrigo to the starting line-up or rewarding Brazilian striker Lima with a starting berth following his weekend hat-trick against Rio Ave.
Argentina international Eduardo Salvio is out with a knee injury.
Newcastle could welcome back goalkeeper Tim Krul following the Dutchman’s seven-game spell on the sidelines with an ankle injury.
Full-back Davide Santon is among the 19-man party that has travelled to Portugal despite missing Saturday’s defeat to Manchester City with a thigh problem,...

Manchester United played out an entertaining 2-2 draw with Benfica at Old Trafford. Phil Jones put the ball into his own net to give the visitors the lead in the opening minutes, but Dimitar Berbatov equalised for United and Darren Fletcher put them ahead on the hour mark. Pablo Aimar got one back not two minutes later, and that was how it stayed. With Fc Basel beating Otelul Galati 3-2, the Red Devils and Benfica are one point ahead of the Swiss side on nine points.
Alex Ferguson may not have welcomed this distraction from his so far fruitless pursuit of Manchester City, but this group game with Benfica was certainly an important one. Not only would it be his 100th Champion’s League win as manager (a record, unsurprisingly), but if United could overcome the Portuguese giants they’d pretty much be through to the last 16. With Fc Basel...

Manchester United battled away to a 1-1 draw with Benfica at the Stadium of Light in their first Champion’s League outing of the season. The Portuguese side may well have been underestimated by Sir Alex Ferguson, but his weakened side managed to come away with a point against their main competition in Group C. Oscar Cardozo took the lead for the hosts before Ryan Giggs levelled the game just before the break.
In the same fixture in 1968 Manchester United beat Benfica 4-1 to become the first English club to lift the European cup. This group game didn’t appear to be quite as important to Sir Alex Ferguson; he made 8 changes to the side that hammered Bolton in preparation for his side’s impending Premier League clash with Chelsea on Sunday. Jorge Jesus’s side didn’t look like pushovers though with world class talent such as Axel Witsel,...
