Lil Rel Howery directs the story of four estranged friends who reunite at a seemingly typical house. Unbeknownst to them, one friend intends to steal a valuable antique. However the place is haunted and the group must overcome their differences to survive a night of mischievous ghosts. Carl Reid wrote the screenplay and Howery also stars.

Haunted Heist is expected to be ready in time for Halloween season.

Exclusive: Horror-comedy Haunted Heist, which is set to star Lil Rel Howery (Get Out) and Tiffany Haddish (Girls Trip), has added Andrew ‘King Bach’ Bachelor (The Babysitter), Karlous Miller (Wild ‘N Out), Brett Gelman (Stranger Things), Ari Dayan (Entitled), Tony Baker (One of Them Days), and newcomer Tara Terry.

Currently in pre-production, Haunted Heist will mark the directorial debut of Howery. The screenplay, written by Carl Reid (Mr. Crocket), follows four estranged friends who reunite at a seemingly typical house. Unbeknownst to them, one friend intends to rob the place, seeking a valuable antique. However, the house is haunted, and the group must confront their differences to survive the night against a host of mischievous ghosts.

Pic is being produced by Sean King O’Grady (I Love My Dad), Josh Feldman and Jesse Ford (Mr. Crocket), and Lil Rel Howery. Executive producers include Feras M. Shammami, Priscilla Ross Smith, and Kendall Anlian.

While the entire premise sounds promising, the phrase "insane pack of ghosts" will certainly pique the interest of the horror community.

Lil Rel Howery has starred in comedies like Vacation Friends and Reunion, and he has also dealt with darker material in the likes of Get Out and The Mill. Now he’ll be pulling from both his comedy and horror experiences to direct the horror comedy Haunted Heist, which he’ll also be starring in – and Deadline reports that he’s being joined in the cast by Tiffany Haddish.

The BBC is reportedly preparing to renew its crime drama Strike, which is based on the Cormoran Strike books by Jk Rowling.

The news comes weeks after the broadcaster apologised to the Harry Potter author after its news hosts failed to challenge a guest who called the author transphobic.

Bradley Walsh has denied reports that The Larkins has been cancelled by ITV.

The Chase host stars opposite Joanna Scanlan as Pop Larkin in the channel’s adaptation of H E Bates’ novel The Darling Buds of May.

Brendan O’Carroll has said that he isn’t fazed by accusations that his show Mrs Brown’s Boys is transphobic.

The Irish actor has starred as matriarch Agnes Brown in the sitcom since 2011, having originally imagined the character for a radio play in 1992.

Over the years, Mrs Brown’s Boys has been near-universally panned by critics, with The Independent’s Sean O’Grady writing that the 2021 Christmas special was “a hellish place where wit has gone to die”.

However, the show has remained hugely popular, with the show returning for a Christmas special once again this year.

Speaking to The Sun, O’Carroll was asked about critics who apparently claim that the show is transphobic for featuring the actor in a female role.

“I don’t think about them, I write the show I write,” he responded.

Exclusive: Bankside Films has boarded international sales for Steve Buscemi-directed Venice Film Festival drama The Listener, starring Tessa Thompson (Creed).

Written by Alessandro Camon, the film follows a helpline volunteer who is part of a small army that gets on the phone every night, fielding calls from all kinds of people feeling lonely, broken or hopeless. Above is a first clip for the movie, which will world premiere next week as the closing film in the Venice Days section before being screened in Toronto.

Creed and Passing star Thompson plays protagonist Beth and is the sole onscreen performer, supported by voice-only cast, comprising Logan Marshall-Green, Derek Cecil, Margaret Cho, Blu Del Barrio, Ricky Velez, Alia Shawkat, Jamie Hector, Casey Wilson, Bobby Soto and Rebecca Hall.

SXSW Grand Jury Prize winner “I Love My Dad” stars Patton Oswalt as Chuck, a desperate father looking to reconnect with his estranged son Franklin, played by writer/director James Morosini. Chuck impersonates a waitress (Claudia Sulewski) online to strike up a relationship with a depressive Franklin, who has blocked Chuck on all forms of social media. The only issue? Well, Franklin metaphorically swiped right on Chuck’s alter ego.

Per an official synopsis, “Things begin to spiral when Franklin falls for this imaginary girl and wants nothing more than to meet her in person, as Chuck has inadvertently catfished his own son.”

Magnolia Pictures has acquired North American rights to “I Love My Dad,” one of the biggest breakouts from this year’s SXSW.

Critics loved “I Love My Dad” reserving particular praise for the direction of James Morosini and for Patton Oswalt’s lead performance. The movie, which won the Grand Jury Prize for Narrative Feature as well as the Narrative Feature Competition Audience Award at the festival, certainly gets points for originality. It follows a young man (Morosini) who is catfished by his hopelessly estranged father (Oswalt) in a desperate attempt to reconnect. Blocked on social media and concerned for his son’s life, Oswalt’s character impersonates a waitress online and starts checking in with his son. There aren’t usually many genre films in the Outfest LA line-up, so Sean King O’Grady’s We Need To Do Something, which Max Booth III adapted from his own novel, really stood out this year. It’s the story of four people – husband and wife Robert (Pat Healy) and Diane (Vinessa Shaw), their teenage daughter Melissa (Sierra McCormick) and their younger son, Bobby (John James Cronin) – who bunker down in a bathroom for the duration of a storm only to find themselves trapped. Not only does nobody seem to be coming to the rescue, but Melissa is deeply worried about her girlfriend Amy (Lisette Alexis), and concerned that the two of them may be in some way responsible for what has happened.
